Here in XDA, we dont have any thread related to Xiaomi's Mi2/2s.
I hope by now people have heard enough about Xiaomi as their latest flagship model is getting shipped soon... Mi3
I request the developers of Omni ROM to support Xiaomi devices, especially Mi2/2S pls just like other CM , AOSP & AOKP ROMs r doing...
Waiting for your reply... Thanks in advance....

Xiaomi are notorious for being flagrant GPL violators, so - highly unlikely.
Just like CM, the real deciding factor for support is, "will a maintainer pick it up?"

Oh come on... please don't punish the users based on company's attitude...
It is a great phone with great UI. just like Nexus 4 it has similar hardware.
All we request here is where ever a new developer wants to build a open sourced ROM, they say not to touch Xiaomi... & everybody wants to build a ROM for Nexus & other phones where they have too many options already...
This is not fair & is not necessary for Nexus & other phone models where they already have too many options available.
I am not saying that you shouldn't , but think in my way also pls.... As you may be aware of there are so many Xiaomi Mi2/2S users alone in Europe & other countries also... but the main problem is lack of good development support. only we should depend on the MIUI developers who keep releasing new build with minimal features based on 4.1.1 version. I mean , we are expecting 4.4 release soon & MIUI is still based on 4.1.1
come on man what the heck is going on... right ?i think always the same like this.... but what to do.. who will listen to our outcry ?
I thought atleast devs here care for our requests.... hence i gave it a go.... I really hope you understand our problem & support this device....
atleast consider from the users aspect pls... Thanks for understanding..... Take care.
I dont have any intention of being rude or arrogant here, i am just expressing my helplessness & pleading the devs for the betterment of android on all Xiaomi devices....
thats all... Thanks once again....

I think you misunderstood. Without the kernel source it is pretty much impossible to support the device regardless of whether a dev wants to or not - we can't change that.

Without kernel source and either platform reference sources, or a good idea of them...you simply can't go making ROMs...
That's why you don't have any. If you really care about custom ROM support, I'm afraid you need to ensure you only buy from GPL compliant suppliers, who use chip sets with good support in open source projects.
Also the prevalence of the device is significant, and I'm yet to see any of those devices in real life...ever... And I'm a phone geek...
If there aren't many out there, the chance of a developer inclined to get it working on any ROM is lower, as they are less likely to even have one.

Yup. If you want a device that has good developer support, do research before buying it. If it's a company that flagrantly violates the GPL on a regular basis - why are you giving them your money?
Basically, I am not spending my volunteer spare time to support a company that is engaging in the practice of managing to steal that which is practically given to them for free.
But seems that Xiaomi will set the kernel source free soon.
At least they said that..

They are great phones with a great software/hardware optimization,

I have an update for you ! Xiaomi releases their source code on 25th October .
Also there is one more hard working developer who without the Xiaomi's sources, has achieved what you are calling as unlikely & next to impossible... only problem for his ROM is camera driver.
He has a thread here in XDA also...
Fine if you all developers have already decided that you only develop or cook ROM for the well known models... it is ur wish. My wish i expressed & likewise you have also done your part.
And to all those who think Xiaomi is not a major player in Mobile industry & who have a false impression that it is just an another Chinese company... should do their research on their different models, their softwares , their track records & demand for their phone models & excellent hardware at best price. I agree they are not bigger than Google, but they are growing at a faster pace. I am not here to boast about that company, but i just shared my 3 months knowledge after buying Xiaomi Mi2S for the first time. Before that i was unaware of this company & had a same opinion like many of the people here have it....
Anyway... if Xiaomi releases for sure on 25th & my favorite developer releases his complete ROM.... pls delete this thread & i don't bother you guys also. It is almost perfect without camera.... thats why i am not using it for daily purpose.... may be you all should take a look at his work once.... AWESOME !
OK guys, dont think that i am trolling here or boasting here or something else.. i am just telling you the facts about my phone & the company which makes it....
Hoping to get a good & positive response from you all...
If Xiaomi makes major changes to their policy of rampant intellectual property theft, maybe things will change.
But in general, for a developer, our most limited resource is time. As a result, it's far better to work with a company that cooperates with the community and treats them with respect (Oppo, Sony, Google's Nexus devices) than one who constantly treats them like ****.
There's also the principle of the thing. I absolutely 100% refuse to work with the devices of any company that commits frequent GPL violations. Even if Xiaomi finally stops violating the GPL, they'll have to work hard for their long-standing track record of extremely poor behavior.
Same reason Samsungs are currently near the very bottom of my priority list, despite them having lots of users. Being lied to shamelessly on a regular basis (such as claiming that N8013 UEALGB was a "leak" and they didn't have to provide kernel source matching that build, despite it being preinstalled on every N8013 sold in the USA) leaves a lasting negative impression.
We should soon see a forum on here. The only reason it wasn't is because they want the source code and we should have that Oct 25 the can't wait.
Ive had my xiaomi mi2 for a little over a month and really like it. Can't wait til we see a forum Here.

And do you think once the kernel is released some dev could enable the LTE in Mi2S?
Seems that the processor Snapdragon 600 has LTE integrated.
But maybe is not that easy...

Its not possible. Its not set up for it. Its a hardware change to get lte. The mi3 is 3g only so the earliest I see lte is mi3s.

A hardware change?? But the snapdragon 600 has not the LTE chip integrated? Samsung S4 has the same processor and has LTE...
I am not an expert, just wondering...
Yes, the S600 does have LTE built-in.
But if the device does not have LTE amplifier on board, you could enable/use LTE, but you'll get really poor network reception.
It's already been done on the Nexus 4, but was not really usable as-is. The lack of amplifier makes it a bad idea. It's only good for the proof-of-concept.
I understand now.. it's a pity... Thank you for the info.
Now the question is, would you buy a phone like Mi2S without LTE,?
now that the 4g is extending more and more, and thinking that the phone should last at least 2 years... I am not sure if i should buy it or not...

Pay close attention to the RFFE block in the first diagram.
The Snapdragon 600 has NO integrated modem. The MDM9xxx does support LTE, IF paired with a WTR1605L - not every device has an L variant, and even if it does, band support requires the right components (PAs, filters) in the RFFE chain.
Yes, seems clear that Xiaomis Mi22s/a will never support LTE.
Waiting for Nexus 5 to choose my next phone...!
Ok guys, is there any point in maintaining this thread ?
when no dev is really interested in working on this one of the best hardware phone ?
I mean other than off topic discussion, nothing really in particular to ROM Dev for Mi2/2S going on in this thread especially.
It is upto the Moderator to decide what best can be done for the fate of this thread & hence Xiaomi Mi2/2S !!!
Thanks a lot for your precious time.
Take care.
OK guys so the Xiaomi kernel is already open sourced. That's a good new.
Will we see a forum here soon??
Hi
I think this might attract the attention of developers especially Entropy, Pulsar & other prominent persons...
waiting for their final word on the development of Omni ROM for Mi2....
I was really surprised to learn that LG don't have a bootloader unlocking service like even HTC have done and given that the LG never managed to unlock the bootloader, I'm quite surprised that there wasn't more of a community outcry. What is up with that? Have LG ever spoken of supporting the development community? Is it unlikely that we'll see it happen within the flagship lifetime of our device?
NB: This is discussion topic, it's really not a question/answer topic.

whoa is this 100% correct? if that's the case I will strongly reconsider getting the G3 and will probably go for either M8 or Z2...
Well, coming from an LG Nexus 5, I can tell you that the development community is booming over there. But that's to be expected with a Nexus device. I'm planning on switching from the Nexus 5 to the G3 (ordered yesterday) in an effort to no longer sacrifice hardware in order to get the vanilla Android experience. These days I'd rather give up some of the software advantages in AOSP ROMs in order to get significantly better hardware.
Unfortunately, it's a sacrifice one way or another. And if you buy a phone such as the G3 you must do so expecting that the development for it will take significantly longer and will likely have less options. However, in my opinion the interface/features offered in the latest stock LG interfaces are quite improved and look/feel much better than the interfaces provided by other manufacturers. I don't think I'll have any issue using the stock interface with the LG for many months after coming from the previous 4 generations of Nexus devices.
The vanilla Android experience has gotten quite boring in my opinion and I welcome the features that will be available on LG's stock ROM.

Sadly yes, it's something I should've looked into in the six months of waiting for this phone. But it's sadly the case. Even on the G2, they couldn't unlock the bootloader and instead had to bypass it.

If you have the patience, I'd recommend waiting a little while to see if they announce a GPe of the G3. That could provide you with the best of both worlds.
Development will improve for sure - the phone has only been out less than a week (D855) with most people still not having received their devices yet and is not even released in the US. It seems the Korean models have shipped with an unlocked bootloader (from what I have heard) and as for the D855 no one has yet confirmed it a) it is locked and b) if it can be unlocked.
I have certainly not looked into it yet myself, although if it is locked, unlocking via any "hacking" method, is beyond my knowledge, someone smarter than me will have to tell us how to do that.
Give it time, development is always slow in the first month of a new device (unless its a nexus), and tends ot only pick up after release in the USA.

Eh, if they release a GP edition G3 it will still pay to have this one because any AOSP ROMs for the GP edition will be quickly ported over to the non-GP edition anyway. I plan on keeping this phone but will also still be happy if they come out with a GP edition as well so we can get some AOSP source code up and running for this device.
And I'm not worried about the bootloader being locked. Someone ALWAYS finds a way to unlock it rather quickly these days.
Personally, my goal with this phone is to root it to get my DPI settings where I want them and get rid of any bloat that may cause the phone to slow down. If I can manage to accomplish those two things, I'll be happy (and it's already doable). My days of rooting, flashing ROMs, bricking, unbricking, and flashing more ROMs are over. At this point I just want a solid phone that works flawlessly.

I'm not so much talking about from the community side, I have faith the community will find an unlock or bypass method. I'm more so talking about from LG's point of view. They don't seem to be supportive hence no official channel to unlock the G2 bootloader despite the G3 launching globally this week.

Remember it took years to get HTC to provide an unlock tool (and the company nearly going bankrupt!), Moto and Sony were the same - moto becoming better when Google acquired them and Sony nearly gave up making android devices completely before they decided to become more dev friendly.
Basically companies only provide unlock methods as a last resort, when they feel its the only way to improve their sales. LG haven't needed this yet.
There are still plenty of devices where you cannot officially unlock the bootloader, its not just an LG thing.

I can't even access the bootloader. Despite turning USB debugging on, I can't get ADB to recognise the phone. I started a thread to check if others have a similar problem.
It's a flagship, I'm not worried about development support. Look at the g2, it got cm support. Plus the LG software looks decent, not too basic like HTC or too intrusive like Samsungs touchwiz

I rooted D855 yesterday using ioroot and as a part of the process "adb devices" did show the phone with USB debugging on.
I had to install lg unified driver so windows 8 had a right driver for it.

Perhaps I need to update my drivers then. Though that's nearly unheard of as I'm on Linux.
If i can atleast root the phone to remove the bloatware, I'll be happy for a little while.

Hm, i've not check on Linux yet, but it is recognised on windows with the right USB drivers installed. Maybe its lacking some udev rule to properly recognise the device?
The LGD855 boots into recovery with adb reboot recovery, but not the bootloader using adb reboot-bootloader its just reboots. I goes into download mode with power+volume up, that about all ive tried.

What the hell can't you read & understand what OP has said or trying to say? (sorry no offence intended). He isn't talking about the support of the development community to this device(G3), which by the way will certainly pick up from what it is now, but he is talking about LG's support to the development community(being more developer friendly as Sony & HTC).
And even if we talk about how much active Android development this device(& it's variants) will see, then let me tell you that the development activity of this device will(probably) never be as much as you see with other flagship devices like HTC One(M7 & m8), that is because a) HTC is more developer friendly by letting you to unlock the bootloader & thus making easy for developers to port(make) ROMs, recoveries & what not, where as with LG & G2 it is entirely different case(ask any developer involved in G2 development, how difficult it is or was to make a recovery or a ROM for G2 and for common flahers the risk factor of flashing those recoveries & ROMs that much more because all the solutions based on a bypassing solution with many permutations & combinations rather than a fully unlockable bootloader just as with HTC devices and b) they are more popular devices among people(as much successful the G2 was it wasn't sold as many as S4s & S5s or M7s & M8s).
We all hope that LG will follow HTC & Sony in being developer frienly. No doubt they are making beautiful devices like G2 & now G3. But sadly, as one of other member pointed out above, it is at the stage of extinction that a manufacturer tend to be more friendly with developer community.

i am Guilty of not reading the whole Thread
this was today conversation ,,,the results of what you read is just a sorry and have a nice weekend
We are sorry that you seem to be unsatisfied with the speed of us rolling out updates. The reason for that is, that we want to make sure that our update is flawless. Releasing updates too quickly always carries the risk that the update itself makes problems. Please give us time to do our update properly before deciding to avoid ELEPHONE in the future. We are sure the waiting will be worth it.
Have a nice weekend

seriously you are the servise of the elephone and you dont know that the gboard is the default ?tried the swift and the apachi keyboard ,all the same on p and l ,,,and telling cuistomer to try another keyboard is not a solution sorry ,,,
why dont you provide the source ,so some developers like xda can make a custom rom ,tha is fully fuctional ?

Dear
Yes, we are the service of ELEPHONE. We are sorry you still face the problem with the keyboard. Of course we want to help you out as fast as possible. Therefore we recommended those keyboards to rule out other reasons that might cause the problem beforehand. If you're still facing issues, please perform a factory reset on your phone. Please backup all your data first so you don't loose anything. Factory reset is a safe procedure when you have everything backed up, including the 2FA applications you might have stored on your phone, photos, contacts and everything else. If you need any further assistence, please contact [email protected]. Please understand, that we cannot give assistance on how to install custom ROMs, as they are third party software. They can brick your phone and we don't bear responsibility for that.
Again, we are sorry we couldn't resolve your problem

and its not only me facing problems
a lot of customers of s8
and its all software build problems
Just want to know about Elephone S8 4G
Are you using this? if yes then could suggest that one for me? as I want to try out a different smartphone, not so notable one but equally good.
im the one in a milion mate ,for me doesnt worth to pay the 2k screen ,and not have others, but you should ask others to
@nasios In my opinion you're quite rude to whoever was helping you. It's not their job, and is definitely not a guarantee, that they (or any other device manufacturer) will provide their sources. As far as the updates go, their answer sounded pretty darn reasonable. Why get an update ASAP fixing a few bugs, but in the long run giving you even more new ones, instead of waiting for a stable update that actually fixes the issues..? Personally I wouldn't suggest anyone base their choice off of your comment(s).

I'd be more prompt to take you seriously if you reported actual issues and day to day use performance rather than petty complaints over lack of support over something almost no company would support (custom roms).. Not here for a fight, no need to get upset over my response. But rather, give some explanation and user experience for me. Maybe mine will be better, maybe not. I know what I paid for is all, I'm not expecting it to work with my carrier, I'm aware of the bugged camera, and I'm aware of their lack of support. Anything you'd like to add to it that's legitimate given the price? Thanks

i sold ele ,bought something else ,no bugs ,(cause if you google it ,a lot of people have bugs with s8 )everything is better ,even the camera ,no keyboards issues with the same programs)the only one is i dont have the screen of elephone which i dont care ..
i guess me and many other users that report bugs and expect from tha company that gave 220 to get it ,are same as me ,,
and i paid less fot the other one ...and im happy ,and i dont care rather if a custom rom will come out ...
my user experience advice since you have prompt the other not to follow is sell the elephone and never again buy elephone ,,,
bb...
Thank you for going into a bit of detail about the issues you had. I'll keep those specifically in mind as I use mine, if they're present and unbearable I'll refund it, otherwise I'll keep it. I'm more after the screen and specs, the build looks lovely and I feel there's a lot of work arounds to many issues. Again, thanks.
Guys... I have no idea why this phone doesn't have any custom rom already.
The phone is good the processor is famous and already has many roms for it google cam is also supported.
I request if anyone by any chance can contact a developer for a rom. By telegram, WhatsApp or any social media. And if none of those agrees to make it because they doesn't have this phone, then I and I know many of you will be willing to test the rom for improvement.
I bought this phone 2 weeks ago at very cheaper rate but now I think I should have taken any other phone.
Previously I owned Moto droid turbo and Asus zenfone 2.
Both phones have great development till now.
It's a humble request. Please find someone.
The problem with this phone is that not so many people bought it despite the great specs. I think people gave up since Zf5 is already released.. Look at Zf2, so many roms!

I am surprised as well that there's no custom stuff available either.
However, this is the first device I've had where I haven't put a custom ROM on it or even rooted and I'm finding I'm not missing a whole lot. My needs are probably pretty modest but I find that stock it's doing everything I want already.
I used to at least root to get Adaway installed but with browsers that have ad-blocking built-in and the rest of my apps generally being paid ad-less versions I don't even miss that. There's always Blokada/DNS66/etc. if I need to.
We're even on Oreo too now.
So, honest question - what features do you want from a custom ROM for our phones?

Well first of all I love the vanilla look of android.
I know I can get that by rooting but that's not what I want. I want a fresh raw android with some features like built in root support, good battery(vanilla android can get more out of this 5000mah), full pixel master and google camera support, splendid support, a little loud speaker(after oreo I think it sound low), ambient display(gotta use that amoled), and customisable options like in RR.
And there is one mod which can make your earpiece the secondary speaker to give stereo effect... That would be pretty dope.

All cool things, I especially miss ambient display (had it on my Moto X Play and on some other devices with CM/Lineage) - using KinScreen/Gravity to try and simulate it but yes, full-blown ambient display is awesome. Not sure why ASUS didn't implement this.

The built in "stock" ambient display in this thing is unlike the others. It gives out COLORS, not black and white. I tried with ambient display enabler for xposed and... got really disappointed.
Like, what a waste for an AMOLED
Also, is your panel bleeding some grey in the middle when it's full black?

Hey, I am here to find way to bring you Lineage OS. If you really want it just collect a donation to pay an used/ a new zenfone 3 zoom. Then a dev can work on it.
If you wish I can do this job and participate to the coast of the device.
Up to you guys
Battery drain
Doesn't feel like 5000 mah battery.
To much buggy rom.
Need custom rom badly.
Developers pls help
Developpers are busy making lineage OS for Bourgeois devices they dont care for broke people.
Because thats the true spirit of modding: Making Lineage for Samsung 12
Yes, we do need a custom ROM for this, badly. I can't imagine this to require a lot of effort to just port a Zenfone 3 ROM and fix the camera (correct me if I'm wrong).

I definitely agree to you sir.
You can get the help of @codeworkx guys.
If some developers manage to work LineageOS for 3 Zoom I believe that custom roms will be more possible to be created.
Common developers
Pls develop some custom rom for this device having awesome hardware.
GCmod camera photos shot on this device come better than iPhone 7.
It's an highly capable device which needs AOSP/RR roms
Android Pie officially launched this Monday August 6th by the floor of the carriage will have to buy another device to be able to take advantage of the new ones of the system Artificial intelligence.

how about it?
You still up for that, McFy?
thanks

Why not I am interested by a new phone to work on, no no, as student I don't earn money, so such hint could help me to have a new phone and bring lineage for you guys, I am ok if you guys are ready, I can try as soon I am less busy Because of summer to make a build.
Regards
@McFy, is your offer still valid?
guys, seriously, this zenfone 3 zoom is for ~140$ on banggood.
it needs just ~14 ppl x 10$ or 28 ppl x 5$ to deliver it to the developer.
i'm first one in the line but doing this by myself will not be enough.
after we have some serious comittments here we can think of some social campaign or -- as you can see from McFy profile -- donating him directly through paypal.
who would like to participate? please add your nick and amount you're ready to participate.
1. geos_ - up to 10$

Sure it is
This sound as a nice idea to me, I am ready to pay 10$
Regards
I'd be maybe 3rd then. But for now I've noticed white noise in right earphone when sound is played, and I'm not 100% sure is that software or hardware issue.
How long It would take to build a LineageOs?
Does anyone know what ROM to install on a LG G6 to keep it safe for at least 2-3 years ?
A few months ago, I bought a second hand LG G6 H870 for its camera quality !
At that time, I thought that I could keep it "updated" at least for safety patches with a LINEAGE ROM beyond "the usual 2-years limit" more or less granted by sellers and Brands.
Unfortunately, Lineage DEV dropped their support for this phone ...
In other words, I was cheated by LG ... and i was cheated by LINEAGE ....
Who's next ?
Help me make sense !
You can use the camera even if you don't have the last update
You can simply use stock rom, debloat it and you will see, it's quite good experience. You can use Gcam also, there is thread with the best version in this forum

Yeah we still have one major update and a few security patches left from LG. It's not like the phone is completely abandoned.
Also, yup this man is right, you can perfectly use GCAM on stock software.

What makes you say that?
Lineage 16.0 is currently being developed for all LG msm8996 devices (g5,g6,v20).

The info is on the official Wiki : https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/h870
Of course, I don't talk about any Lineage roms eventually and unofficially developped on xda ... by a "lone" developper ...
I hate to say so, but if the official Lineage OS (or any other official and alternative ROM to the stock one) is droppred after 2 years, it defeats the purpose .... if the game is to extend the support for expensive gadgets ... and break the commercial practices BRANDS enforce on consumer ....

That page probably says that because in the past G6 was officially supported (I didn't check, but probably Lineage 14?).
Anyway, like I said Lineage 16.0 is being developed. It's not official, but you can't expect it to be when it's not quite ready yet.
Development has been slow on these LG devices. For me personally, on G5, it's not been an attractive option, but it's getting there
and likely will be official when it's ready.
Edit: It's mainly x86cpu which is developing now https://review.lineageos.org/q/owner:x86cpu.
So you see, I'm not talking about all those random roms that are about. Although some of their work probably will help.

Thanks Silver Wx,
You seem to understand very well what is going on with BRANDS such as LG, SAMSUNG, ONEPLUS, APPLE, and whatever **** !
Yes stock rom is a good experience ! Except when security support is dropped after 2 years ...
In case you missed my point, LINEAGE OS "was" a warranty a +3-5 years supported phone ...
What kind of buyer are you Silver Wx ?
Every 2 years, you buy a new phone ?
Go back to school ....
