"New icon" and "Bug fixes" nothing great

I feel its much much faster

New Icon, definitely faster focus and no lag.

Only thing that hasn't been fixed is the front facing camera lag in low light

It also appears to be Wear aware. Looks to allow control from my Moto 360.

Camera update changed the icon, other than that it changed nothing.

Always were. Whenever you're wearing an android wear, you could push to take a photo.

Keen. I've only had the watch a couple weeks and never noticed that. Thanks!

A new neat feature of this update is that when you're running with the phone in your pocket, it really thinks you want to take a picture and opens up the camera.

That was there before, it's called Quick Capture. Go to your Moto app > Settings > Actions > Quick Capture, uncheck.

I know it was there before, I've actually used it intentionally a few times before. But it never would open up when it was in my pocket. Suddenly after the update it started doing it. Maybe it was just the shorts I was running in, but it had never happened before.

Kitkat impressions?

Hi VZ Moto X folks,
How are you liking Kitkat on the phone? I installed the update on my VZ Moto X this noon and do like the update overall, but I have a few gripes as well.
Likes:
Transparent status bar, white looks good and different as well IMO
New camera allows to adjust focus, exposure (technically this not related to Kitkat I think)
Wallet is working again on VZ with NFC
Lockscreen music album art is very nice! Also works with apps like Pandora and Tunein Radio
New dialer, but no business search
Gripes:
Lost root from 4.2, chances to get it back on 4.4 seem slim. Really hate ads
Some issues with Chrome on 4.4 (lag etc), hopefully will be fixed by an update to Chrome. Chrome never lagged on the Moto X for me on 4.2.
4.4 broke support for battery apps like BetterBatteryStats and Wakelock detector.
Overall, I am really impressed with Motorola and Verizon for giving us this update so soon. But the Moto X was such an awesome phone to start with that I am not totally overawed by the update, I think. What do you guys think about the update?
I'm pretty upset about a really small thing: When I unlock from Active Notifications, there's a tiny delay in which the regular lockscreen appears, and then it unlocks to home/whatever app I had open. That wasn't there before, was it?

I'm happy with the speed of release, but I'm a little disappointed with the crippling of some features. The lack of local search in the dialer and Google Caller ID is very disappointing.
Oh, and this feels like nitpicking. But holy crap:
If you haven't tried yet, switch to ART runtime in the developer options. It speeds up the phone a lot.

Yes, that to me is a actually one of the most important updates because you feel it every time you unlock or every press (if enabled). Much smoother now.
I really don't like the new dialer app. The white/gray looks plain ugly and I don't get what's the obsession with light themes.
Otherwise, I like it all

Yes! The icons are terrible in the status bar. They also used the old Gps icon instead of the new location one.
I like having the option of using art. And will try it for today. But might have to get rid of it until more apps are compatible. Its not horrible but my banking app and PANDORA don't work. The lag is also TERRIBLE when unlocking from active notifications. And disabling slide unlock screen is NOT a fix because the lock screen is how I change my music when listening. Motorola should NOT have skipped the soak test.

Wait... Motorola shouldn't have skipped the soak test because you want to enable an unsupported beta feature that's only accessible by enabling a development settings menu?

Another lag fix idea

Right I've been follow like most the threads about sorting out the lag we sometimes receive on the G3.
I tried the fixes and while improved it's not gone.
So I decided to fiddle and to my surprise improved things alot.
Go into Developer option and tick DISABLE HW OVERLAYS
I used to notice lag when going in the app drawer and hitting the home button, a pause, stutter then animation. Now it has a millisecond pause and a smooth animation to the home screen.
Give it ago and report back.
Yeah, well, I saw no such improvement. Furthermore, that setting doesn't persist after a reboot.
If you want it to remain, you'd need to edit build.prop and change:
'debug.composition.type=c2d'
to
'debug.composition.type=gpu' (or cpu)
It's not worth it in my opinion, if there is a difference, I'd need to run home quickly to grab my atomic clock to measure the difference.
No difference for me either
Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk

That phone does not have a camera. It is a petty. HTC will probably disappear soon: they have not been able to get benefits in 2013 and 2014. Customers currenty dont want to know about them due to evil sw update policy. I dont think a clever customer will buy an HTC.
Thanks anyway.

LoL...I don't notice any lag on my G3. What's kind of funny is some M8 users said the camera was fine back when it came out. Months later they like the G3 camera better. HTC took a gamble on the M8 camera and failed. Imo
This helped a lot. Things are a lot snappier.
Thanks!
Tried the M8 but think I've broken it trying to get the battery out

Edit: See Martin-Doc's post below, solved my issue. It works!
I've only found it to work when the phone is 'turned off' with QuickBoot enabled in the developer options menu. With my device fully powered off it didn't come on when it was supposed to. Just sharing my experience so hopefully no one misses an important alarm!

Yep! Just did another test just to make sure lol. Set an alarm for 9:17, turned my phone off at 9:15 and nothing happened. Turned it on at 9:20 and had a notification of a missed alarm.
That's pretty weird though, I wonder why it works for yours and not mine. As you said, always test it before you rely on it!

I'd just make a test and the result it's the same.
The phone boots up 2 minutes before the scheduled alarm. You left it less than 2 minutes when you turned it off, that may be the reason why the phone didn't boot and sound the alarm.
just tested with third party app, doesnt work even if I wait about 10 minutes. Testing now with the stock app.

Heck, even my Nokia 3210 did that back in the days.

It's crap because it's missing a lot of functions. you can't select playlists for example, and that's essential for me, because I like to wake up to a random song, and not to the same one every morning.

It's all a matter if opinion, but I wouldn't call it crap, based on that reasoning. I have no desire to wake up to music, or random songs, a standard buzzer is fine for me. And as such, I feel it is perfectly adequate

New OTA Moves features are sweet!!

With phones it is all about those small things that make the experience for you ever more enjoyable. Like everyone else not being able to quickly view notifications while your device was sitting on a desk was kind of annoying. While there were apps that tried to mimic this feature it just quite wasn't there.
Well with the new OTA that I promptly side loaded the Pixel is nearing perfect for me. Coming from the S7 Edge makes it even more enjoyable. Why? Because the S7 Edge always on display was kind of useless. Sure you can see the time and a few notifications but it just did not apply to enough apps which made it more annoying.
Anyone just my 2 cents.
