No, i had it rooted. But no costume firmware.
That's because it has locked and encrypted bootloaders. It is an evil at&t S5, which means you cannot Odin anything but att's stock ROM! Sorry man, it is bad news, but I hope I save you a lot of time and headache. Look into SM-G900A section for more on Safestrapping ...

'm on the Sprint Galaxy S4 SPH-L720. I've spent about 10 hours on this - reading and following posts and trying different flashes with no luck. I was on the Pac Man Rom (with CW MOD 11): pac_jflte-dev-20140831.zip (I believe in my phone it showed KitKat 4.4.4) . I was having issues with reception, getting voicemails, and battery, so I wanted to revert to Stock Rom (I think I tried mk2), and ran into problems. I've been trying to flash NAE (and use the NAE pit file) with different versions of Odin, different USB jacks, etc but with no luck. The error messages I get in Odin are:

Thank you for your replies. Daniel4653, I didn't do any OTA updates (I think because the phone was rooted, I couldn't, no?). What is the correct file to flash? I've downloaded a bunch:
SPR-L720VPUEMK2-20131212171424
SPR-L720VPUAMF9-20130626162512

I had used an older version of Philz Recovery (philz_touch_6.07.9-i9300.tar.md5) and when I tried a newer version (philz_touch_6.15.6-jflte.tar.md5), I was able to boot into Clockwork Mod. From there I was able to install a custom ROM again. Phew. Also, I know understand that a phone that has Knox installed (0x1) won't work with Odin anymore. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447832&page=7
After getting Cyanogenmod up and running, I realized that I have no sound, am not able to make calls and the battery drains very quickly. I found a link with someone that has a similar issue (but not on sprint) - I can't post links yet but if you google "No Sound After Updating And New Instalation Of Cm11" it's the first article.
It seems like it's an issue with my modem or boot loader (sorry I'm a noob and doing my best to understand everything - spent all day trying to get my phone working )? I tried flashing the MK2 modem only MK2-ModemOnly.tar.md5 with no luck. I get an error in ODIN.
I know it's a problem people are having with cyanogenmod. Could I install another rom like negalite wonder rom (ng2)?
Thank you.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>First of all thank you very much to the OP!! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I got the same error and solved it.
I think the reason was that I tried flashing a 502 stock when I had already flashed the 511 bootloader and modem. In my case I have a Brazilian SM-G920I GS6 and the 511 stock rom is/was not readily available for it. So I tried downloading the latest available official stock version (502) and it resulted in the error you mentioned.
So I dowloaded the India 511 version (region INU) for 920I and it finally worked.
I used samfirm to download it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647).
You need to input the exact model name (for me it was literally SM-G920I) and the region code for your phone. Then download it, DON'T close samfirm software, then click on Decrypt and you will finally have a ZIP from which you can extract the stock rom. And to find out your region code, you can go to www.sammobile.com and click on Firmware in the main menu at the top. Then you enter the model number and after that you will get to a screen with a dropdown menu for all available regions and their codes (for instance, region codes for Brazil are ZTO, ZTA..).
You can also download the stock roms from sammobile diretcly but it is too slow (takes a day or so).
Good luck!

Ok, now I'm stuck.
I've downloaded the same version as you (INU 5.1.1 for G920I) and flashed. Used for some days and now I have to take my SGS6 to service to check if they can give me a new one because I´m having some trouble with the radio of my network (the problm was before flashing any ROM). Any way, I've tried to flash stock 5.0.2 and Odin still giving the same error. In my case I tried many of 5.0.2 stocks ROMs for the G920I and none of them worked, even the stock from Claro (my carrier) doesn't work.
This is the log in Odin, after reflashing INU 5.1.1, wiping and apply download mode.

This works on any 5.1.1?
i mean can i download any 5.1.1. for 920F and it will be fixed or i have to use exactly the rom that is posted on OP?

Simply download last firmware for your model from sammobile, and flash it with odin...

What is your exact model, G or F, what? You download the ROM from sammobile with your exact model no., and then flash.
It's N910H
I resolved it by recovering my phone via Kies though I lost all my data
Then I tried to install Xposed framework and now it's stuck in the bootloop again ...........
Never heard about the H version before! Anyway, make sure you are flashing the correct Xposed, that is Wanam's, but Arter's, and read the installation instructions closely.

Recently, my Verizon S5 got stuck in boot loop, so I tried to restore the stock lollipop image using Odin, but the phone goes back to the boot loop right after the odin successful flash.
I have tried different lollipop stock roms, so I know it is not just a problem of a bad rom.
Moreover, I can't get the phone into recovery mode, every time I try Home + Power + UP, It goes into maintenance mode instead with only restart / restore factory / safe mode. even when I click restore to factory, it reboots right away and goes to the boot loop.
I have always get it to download mode and successfully install a stock rom, but never succeed to pass the boot screen.
I have also tried installing the factory odin tar image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/g900vvru2bog5-factoryodintarimage-t3179527 but never succeeded.
Any help is appreciated.
What version of the base files are you trying to install PB1? What version of ODIN are you using? In ODIN are you unchecking reboot automatically and once the flash finished pulling the battery?

Have you verified the MD5 is valid on the G900VVRU2BPB1_G900VVZW2BPB1_VZW.zip? I assume you meant ODIN 3.09? That's the version I have the most luck with.

In maint mode, do you have factory reset option? try that.
1) Re Odin factory rom
2) when bootloop, do not pull battery, hold down Vol down, Home and power buttons to boot to Maintenance mode, clear cache and factory data reset.

I have also tried installing the factory odin tar image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/g900vvru2bog5-factoryodintarimage-t3179527 but never succeeded.
Any help is appreciated.

If your phone was initial root on kitkat rom it will not accept pb1 tar file becouse is 5.0 file . So did you try a factory tar file from kitkat , like 4.4.2 ?

It was initially on 4.4.2 but unrooted, It did succesfully upgrade to to 5.0 at som point. but now I can't go back to 4.4.2 because it odin flashing fails at the beginning of the process.

It is not letting me downgrade to 4.4.2 from ODIN I guess because I m on 5.0 now and flashing pb1 yields to the same issues of boot loop.
Here is the output when I try to install 4.4.2

What is the OD5 bootloader suppose to do? I figured out it is small file with 10mb in size!

Thanks for all the help. I tried re-installing stock PB1 and then flashing OD5 bootloader, but the bootloader flash fail during odin flash and the phones goes back to the bootloop. I also can't get into the recovery mode and I can only get to the maintenance mode and it only has 3 options. boot normally, factory restore (doesn't work) and boot into safe mode.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I did confirm that the phone was on pb1 and I even re-flashed it again to make sure. but I still get the odin failed error when trying to flash the bootloader.
I also tried installing BOK3 and BOG5, but with no luck. they all fail the same way few seconds after I click start. the only firmware that I can flash successfully is the PB1 but after it PASS, I get the boot loop!
Help me please, I locked myself out by trying to update my s8 from cre8 to cre9 like a retard and bricked my phone. Won't let me ODIN back to CRD4 as its bootloader 3.
Any solutions other than waiting for them to release an odin copy of bootlader 4?
I guess you can't flash twrp ?

Here, try this version of odin. It may work, it may not, but let me know if it does let you downgrade or flash whatever revision your trying to flash.
Good Luck!!

Don't know if you are still bricked, but there is now a bootloader 4 ODIN file available here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76819577&postcount=3603
