[Q] Note 3, will rooting do what I want? - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have always been contempt with my factory Note 3 image, but there were always a few things that I didn't like, like a bunch of bloatware apps that I could not uninstall. I have simply disabled them. I tried one of these uninstall apps and it said I need root access to remove some apps, would root access actually allow me to remove these apps?
If I root the device and get rid of these apps, and then remove the root, would they re-appear after a lollipop update if it ever comes?
I am planning on using Towelroot to do the rooting on the phone as I believe my software version is old enough.

1. Yes, root access give you perms to delete the bloatware that bother you. (Ex: HERE).
2. The bloatware will re-appear when you flash a new firmware ofc.
3. Towelroot works perfectly for what you need :highfive:.

[Q] Rooting safe for mom?

So I got mom and myself a Fire for Christmas, and I'm debating the effort involved with supporting Google Currents and Gmail on them both. Mainly what I'm worried about is how much maintenance I may have to do afterwards if I root, install the Google apps then unroot
I'm not a newb, but might be a novice still, I did root and re-rom my Galaxy Tab but that was nearly a year ago now, since then I haven't done anything other than use it and I'm hoping for a similar ability to just USE the Fire rather than tinker with it.
From others reporting, it sounds like there might be issues with updates from Amazon causing problems with software installed this way? Has anyone gone through an update cycle with this setup and had any problems getting back into Currents or Gmail?
We have seen that the OTA update does remove root. It is easy to reroot using SuperOneClick and takes less than 15 seconds since you already had it configured on your PC when you initially rooted.
Other than Market, No other apps were affected and I also still had the changes to build.prop. Apps that were manually installed into System/App may need to be reinstalled (like Market). You may want to install OTA RootKeeper apk in order to easily unroot to use Amazon VOD and reapply root when you need it. Using Titanium Backup, you can backup all your apps and restore in the event there is an OTA update which affects the Market. I used Titanium Backup to restore Market. Another handy apk is AppSaver.
I would root it, install what you want, then use otarootkeeper, which is in the Google market, and do a temporary unrest. That way she can not mess anything up. If you need to make changes that require root, it is as simple as clicking restore root in rootkeeper, and your back in business.

[Q] I caused problems with updates and other general issues

I will save you the details of what I was thinking and why. But I rooted through Kingo and using nobloat I uninstalled a handful of apps, mainly what I saw listed as safe to remove. Then I had to do a factory reset on my phone and I did it without thinking and now everything I blocked is gone.
When it first came back up I had no touchwiz or Samsung keyboard. I had to plug in an external keyboard and install Nova Launcher before I could even use my home screen.
So I'm back up on a non-rooted phone (removed Kingo root) with my knox not tripped. However it fails to install updates. I have no warranty left on this device.
Is there any way to get ota updates to work again or did I need it up to badly? I have also lost kies so I think that eliminates all other ways to update the phone. I have android 4.3
Should I just leave well enough alone? Is there as way to get this phone back to pristine? Should I even be concerned with future updates? Do I just figure out how to properly root this device and install a 4.4.2 rom?
Thoughts and suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Any temp unroot solution for S4? (4.4.2)

Does anyone know of a temporary unroot solution that works on an S4 with Android 4.4.2? I'm trying to run the Three Intouch app and Rootcloak/RootCloak Plus don't do the trick for me.
what i'm doing now works...but it's kind of long winded.....good solution if you want TEMP ROOT, but usually NOT ROOT. Maybe not so good the other way around, but it will work still.
1 - root with towelroot
2 - install SuperSU from PlayStore and attempt to open and update binary (it may fail)
3 - reboot and open SuperSU again, if it again asks to update binary it will work this time, reboot once more).
4 - set up your options in SuperSU (e.g. no notification, trust system user etc).
5 - do whatever you need to do with root
6 - to UNROOT just choose "Full Unroot" option within SuperSU app, THEN also uninstall towelroot.
7 - Reboot and you'll be UN rooted and apps like SkyGo etc will work perfectly.
8 - If you need to re-root, repeat the process from step 1.

Thanks. I'm already rooted with CF-Auto Root but will bear this in mind. I was hoping for something I could run from a command line which would temporarily disable root while I wanted to run the app.
Yeah, I'm not sure that any of these really work well. It seems that some apps work fine using the temp unroot/rootcloak/hide root solutions, but any apps that are not working with those need a full unroot before they will play ball. At least until geohot comes along and makes a magic one button root toggle (which of course will also reset Knox trip back to 0x0)

I did see someone on a message board who managed to get the app working with RootCloak/Cydia, but don't know which phone/OS he was using
interesting......if you find out, be sure to post back, as this app is the main reason why i need to stay unrooted, most other apps i care about work either with root or while root is hidden.

Root Galaxy S8 Exynos version

Hi All, i have backed up my handset, downloaded Odin, CF-Root and image files in preparation to root the S8 to remove bloatware but i have a question before i start.
The question is that i have a banking app installed which of course will not work after the root process so can i remove the root after debloating and then reinstall the banking app.
Cheers.
I guess there's no answer to this then !?
Why not use an app disabler instead of root if you just want to disable apps? I don't think removing root is as easy as it sounds, normally you just reinstall the firmware.
you can use magisk to hide the root. it worked ony my banking apps
Magisk will hide the root (although Samsung Health still reacted but I don't use that anyway ) and SuperSU has a hide feature as well. Not sure if the SuperSU one lets you do the app-by-app hide that Magisk does.
I never had any luck with the root-hiding apps/methods. The TIAA app complained one way or another, so I gave up.

[TA-1021] It's possible to remove bloatware with no root?

Autodescriptive. Without rooting it nor code licence I want to know if there is a way to eliminate pre-installed apps on my phone. Not disabling: removing permanently. I tried an app called Debloater but it says my device Nokia 6 does not allow blocking, so useless.
Thank you very much.
the only option is by disabled them, if your phone not rooted

Have you searched online for the PM Uninstall method? I've done it on every Android phone I've owned the last few years. It can be done without ROOT. Here's a guide I found on XDA. Hope it works.

Without root it uninstalls apps from user space only. Apps are restored after factory reset, so you would need to repeat uninstall process in case of reset.

Yeah the apps would come back after factory reset but as long as you don't have to do that, the apps are as close to uninstalled as can be in that situation. I assume this method would work for OP since he's asking for a solution that doesn't require root. So he's not installing ROMS and keeping everything stock.
