POST your Speed tests here!!! - G 2014 General

So I just got a brand new Moto G 2nd Gen here in US, Florida, and HSPA sucks ... With my Nexus 5 under T-Mobile 4F LTE, I get easily 25 Mbps download, and anywhere from 6 to 10 Mbps on HSPA+ I think...
But with my Moto G 2nd Gen I only get 560 Kbps down on a good day, and not often, using the same SIM card and T-mobile service, and then out of nowhere it only gets 7 Kbps down most of the time.
Should I return it?
Problem solved... Got the right APN setting's list for my carrier. =]

You're right!!!
Since I just put a t-mobile SIM on it, it just loaded a default APN setting that wasn't the best for it...
So then I bought a Metro PCS SIM card... they only sell NANO sim cards on walmart, but they come with an adapter, and even though the manual says "no adapters", I was able to activate it just fine by dialing *228, and activating it myself with the operator.
THEN!!!
I realize I have no internet, and just then remember APN setting... I use an old APN setting list for MetroPCS for the original Moto G, and it wasn't so good... but then I find a more updated list, and that one gives me a stable 5 to 7 Mbps down .
So problem solved... now to address that annoying battery drain This phone's battery sucks really bad.

Hmm that's strange you'd have a battery drain issue. Make sure no kernel wakelocks or anything obviously. Mine lasts all day on a charge with a good 3 to 4 hours SOT.
Its not the best on battery, but not the worst.

Cancelling verizon account

I have both t-mobile and verizon. I've been considering ditching verizon. But, i'd like to know if I could still use the droid x just on wifi or if I'm gonna have to sell it. I bought it ten months ago. I'd like to keep it as a dev device, but just without phone access.

You can still use most apps that allow wifi connection for a data source (almost all).
Wirrless tether would no longer work without 3g service... That is the only major catch I can think of

You could just ignore it. Theres always a way to skip all those start up screens.
You MIGHT be able to "activate" it. It would eventually tell you that there is no service registered to this device etc etc.
I THINK that's how it works, but I could be dead wrong, might want to call cs and ask what happens if you try to activate a phone out of service.
Either way, you won't be billed. I think my activation screen allowed me to skip it.

WHY would anyone pay for Verizon's service! I flashed my X to Cricket and never turned back, (end rant lol ). You can still use the WiFi feature after you get past the Activation screen.

Never dropping a call and data speed that makes AT&T/iPhone fanbois wet their bed's at night.
Ditch T-Mobile, they just did a massive TV campaign advertising a 4G network when they don't even have one. They are just enhancing their current 3G network which by now is equivalent to verizon's 4G LTE.
It sounds like you're saying that T-Mobile's 21Mbps service isn't 4G while Verizon's 10Mbps service is. Technically speaking, neither fit the 4G standard; however, both are marketing their high-speed networks as such.
Verizon is too expensive for me. The DroidX does not do simultaneous voice and data--something I need everyday for my job.
T-Mobile has great coverage in my area. They're much more affordable than Verizon. Their network is faster than Verizon's. Unless you can convince me to go to a slower network with less functionality at a higher price, my Verizon account will remain closed.

Whoever thinks verizon 3g is better than at&t either lives in a low at&t recwption area or blowing smoke. At&t and tmobile are both faster than any cdma network, especially now with the hspa+ upgrades which also speed up other 3g devices. Its not even close.

Straight Talk BYO phone $45 month all unlimited for $15 admission fee (sim purchase)

Straight Talk a MVNO using AT&T network. Data is limited to 2Gb (soft cap i think) and everything else unlimited.
Use any compatible UMTS phone even the AT&T iphone 4 or 4s. Back then you had to buy the e71 phone now they have sims/micro sim for $15
Everything works just configure the proper apn information.

Unreal Three UK 3G speeds!! WTF!

I received my note 2 LTE N7105 from t-mobile this morning. After leaving to charge and investigating how to unlock the phone (thanks t-mobile for locking it!!) I manged to unlock it with a great app on play store (UnlockUnit) and the N7105 inst even supported yet lol
T-mobiles 3g speeds are terrible where I am in London, average 2-3megs, I didn't care anyway cause the plan was to give their sim to my lil boy, while I pop my 3uk sim in there, happy whit their speeds for a long time, but now check this out!!! I cant reproduce theses speeds with the mrs S3, its still around 9megs on her s3 but when I pop sim into the note 2 its just wow!!

This was the highest speed, average for about 10 tests were around 15-16megs! 3 seems to have upgraded their network! Anyone else with 3uk experiencing this? My network type is reporting HSPAP:15, who needs to sigh up to 4G when you got this crazinessnessness!
That's pretty nuts! How does it feel streaming content off something like youtube with those speeds?
Effortless! No buffering at all. Netflix is like a dream. I don't want to touch the handset in case speed diminishes!
I'm searching google for info on this but am finding nothing. The 3g only note 2 N7100 that i sent back wasn't giving me these speeds
Its slowed down very recently, maybe due to terrible ping? Then sped up again in the 2nd pic, orgasmic!
Cant believe I'm calling 14meg 3g connection slow. I'll accept that. Please, my fellow 3uk users, please share your speeds
[/IMG]

I'm getting about 3mb/s H+ here but then again I've never gotten good signal at home.
However my mate on 3 UK has similar 3G speeds on his iPhone 5. I guess mine should be about the same but last time I tried it next to him he wasn't getting great speeds either, seems a bit hit and miss depending on where you are.
Best I've had at home was about 5mb/s

OP - Are you also on HSPA+? I noticed yours says 3G+, Is that just HSPA+? Cos 3 don't roll out LTE until next year.
I guess the modem on the N7105 gives HSPA+ an extra kick.

2 Degrees in NZ. Their 4G coverage is still quite sporadic but when you are connected it's usually pretty quick. 4G here is still only a couple of years old and with only a small population and even less with 4G capable handsets means plenty of free bandwidth on the network!
Can't wait to get fibre installed... Going to get 100/20 on Vodafone here. Was seriously looking at their 200/20 but couldn't justify the extra cost for what is essentially just browsing with the occasional download!

Play in the states--no LTE?

Anyone else have a Play in the US? Do you have LTE? I don't. My download is <1.0mbps
I'm on T-Mobile, and have verified the APN settings listed on T-Mo's website (I can't post links due to my n00bness).
It says I'm on band 4, which I believe is an LTE band, but I haven't gotten LTE since I received it. My tablet gets full LTE in the same locations.
Do you have the European or Canadian version?
Mexican. Unlocked edition via motomaker. It functions, I just don't have LTE.
I'm betting this will mean I won't be able to make calls on B12, either.
This phone should be 100% compatible with Tmo
The XT1563 SS & the XT1563 DS both have the exact same bands (LTE) and should work all over North & South America.
Tmo uses AWS 1700/2100 band 4 for LTE as well as band 12 (700) which the Moto X Play XT1563 has.
Silly question - Did you select LTE as the preferred network? under network settings, otherwise it probably won't hook up to LTE just go 3G.

I did a speed test and got <1mbps down.

Preferred network type only gives the option of 2g/3g/4g, I don't see LTE listed.

manually put the APN settings of TMO
Okay, this *may* be a false alarm. I went into the "*#*#4636#*#*" settings page, and it shows LTE. Even though the menu bar shows "4g" (which in the past meant HSPA+ on my T-mo stuff), the internal page showed LTE.
I did the same speedtest on my tablet which shows LTE and it's showing comparable (slow) speeds. I'm always on wi-fi here so I never noticed!
I'll run a speed test next time I'm down in the valley where reception is really good and see what's up.
Just got mine today, I'm on cricket and getting LTE. The phone shows 4G in the status bar but connection details shows LTE

TMO is the source of your confusion. While the rest of the world equates 4G with LTE, TMO's nasty marketing relabeled HSPA+ (still 3G elsewhere) as such.
Yeah I've never heard of HSPA+ referred to as 4G. In the UK LTE is just called 4G.
