I've lost my phone, haven't blocked it yet or anything in the hope that Microsoft my Phones locate service will help me out. When i lost it was low on Juice, by now it would have died so the locate service isn't working... Im hoping that someone has found it, charges it, sticks their sim card in it and it will be locatable...
Is this the case? The phone will broadcast the IMEI number regardless of what sim is in it yeah? If microsoft my phone isn't finding it, and i'm phoning it several times a day and its saying 'It has not been possible to connect your call, please try again later', im hoping that its dead? If someone was actively using it with a different sim card I would be able to track it right?
I've pretty much written it off now, assuming i'll never find it, i've come to terms with that, but there's always that little bit of hope... Can anyone help please?
Cheers.
Bump.
Sorry to be a pain guys but just a bit of clarification is all i'm after.
Cheers.
Wouldn't it just go right to answerphone if the battery was dead?
Hello, friend. I am really sorry that your phone is gone..I am sure that really stinks...
Well, first: I have never tried that or spoke to a mobile rep about that, but since your phone has a specific adress and its like a vin number, i believe is the IMEI #. And GPS and everything are still in the phone. They can`t delete them or change them. Thus i believe its possible that if you call a Rep and tell them to locate it or something like that, are they supposed to help you? I've heard that iphones have that fiture, that if you loose your phone, they can track it.
That's just my 2 cents. I hope I gave you some hope... Good look mate!
Not good news I'm afraid mate. I've seen quite a few people on here say that the premium MyPhone services don't work.
If someone were to charge it and put a new SIM in it then when they switched it on it would be just like it was when you last had it, so MyPhone would run as often as you had it set to. (I don't know if the tracking is updated upon request or when it syncs.)
If I were you, I'd report it missing, both to your provider and your insurance company. Bad times mate.
so this whole microsoft my phone tracking service doesn't work? Has anyone, or anyone heard of it working...? Would o2 track it and tell me where it is? I heard they won't due to privacy infringement or whatever...but surely thats what these service are in place for, to find a lost phone?
thanks for your replies so far guys.

Have you tried phoning O2 to ask them? It sounds like you've not exactly been too proactive with regards to recovering or safe guarding your phone thus far.
ive been phoning it every day and trying to track it. ive got in touch with the local police station to find out if its been handed in but i cant do that without saying its been stolen and filing a report which im reluctant to do right now if this microsoft my phone service works...

I'm assuming you don't have insurance? I'd think it's safe to say you've lost it, i'd file a report with the local police and try to claim via the insurance if you have it. Getting the IMEI barred is a real last ditch attempt as you can't remove the barred number from your countrys network once it's been done.
The myphone service is linked to the phone by your windows live ID. i would lock it asap with myphone, making the phone useless unless a hard-reset has been performed... After a hard-reset myphone wont be linked to your live ID anymore
I've tried the myphone premium services, and i can confirm that they work. If your phone cant be located, its just bad luck.
good luck to you my friend!

that's why i'm reluctant to block it and report it, once i clock it, i can't keep trying to locate it. if i keep trying to locate it and I fail, i'll lock it via microsoft my phone and put the message for them to contact me, leave it a couple of days, if nothing, block it through o2 with the imei. When i click get started its saying that i can try more than 2 times within a week, so ill have to wait until thursday to try it again i think.
EDIT: Can i still locate it i lock it through myphone not blocking the imei?

Apparently you can.
'For 7 days, My Phone will try to lock your phone. You can check the status of your lock request by returning to this page at any time.'
Have a look there, 3rd one down it gives you the usual Microsoft vague answers.

hm, so it will try to lock the phone for 7 days, but doesn't tell us if once locked, we can still track it?
thanks for your reply you've been a great help!

Microsoft are just as usual usless absolultely usless at giving you any information on any product or service they offer on their own website, and it doesn't actually say anywhere if you can still locate it. But it would be completely pointless if you locked it and it wouldn't let you actually locate the handset, so I would guess you could.
IIRC you can get it to display a custom message when it's locked from myphone. "Hi, thanks for finding my phone. Please call me on xxx-xxx-xxxx to claim your reward!"
that is correct yeah but then once locked, can i still locate it or am i souley relying on the finder to return it?

Even if it does locate it, it's gonna be in a 50m radius, at best. Probably more in the region of a 200m radius, which is nearly the same as not knowing where it is.
If you can get it to lock and display a message, leave it for a little while and then get it blocked via the imei.
I have a replacement sim card being used in a temporary phone at the moment, I just tried to lock the phone, why am I getting a coded text to this number, surely it should be trying to lock my imei not my number?

It has still got to send the phone a locking command, which is what you are getting.
As you are using a replacement SIM with the same number, you are in fact, preventing yourself from using any of the MyPhone functions, as there is no way to connect to the lost phone.

Hi all
It just happened that I find a t-mobile Hero on a bus 52 to Victoria Station (I got off at the Royal Albert Hall and I notice it just before I got off)
I'm thinking about call one of the contacts on the address book but the screen is locked.
I haven't got any calls from it, so I can tell anybody that that phone is lost.
I'm reluctant to go into a T-mobile store because maybe they just get the device and keep it for them without even notifying the owner.
What would be your best advice in order to give it back to its right owner before s/he block the mobile's IMEI?
Regards!
Better to call the carrier, they have all his/her info
Great that you are so honest +1

He does have a saint in his name.. I would call one of the contacts if you can get into the phone, ask them whos phone this is... ( or you could root it for him and return it, he would probably be happier)

Lmao. Yeah, send it back with flash working and oc'd to 800+, so it keeps their hands warm on cold November nights like now.
They usually block them straight away. Ring 'mum' or 'dad'. They're probably on shopping holiday from Croatia.
And it was all yellow...
Brings you back to that song ...
All I want for christ-mas is root (Oh dear)
It may be possible you could adb in and pull the contacts database and get home?
Not sure - i have never tried. But I really do respect your honesty on this!

It was a pleasant evening, I walked.
Hush...
This is the big failing of the pattern lock screen system... It stops malicious use, but also stops legitimate things like this.
I've always been in favour of setting a custom message on the lockscreen using CMParts, but this isn't a custom ROM (I presume).
What's worth a look is to try "adb devices" with the device connected. See if you can get it to show. This will only happen if the user has enabled USB debugging, which would suggest it could be rooted.
If it's rooted, it would be possible to retrieve enough info to contact the user. If it's not rooted, it's not going to let you get at anything...
I'm aware that any info here would help someone who had stolen a phone, so I'm not going to give away any of the tricks to get into the device by bypassing that screen.
Still, it's good to see some honest people about here... One suggestion. Remove the SIM, and put it into another device (non smartphone). See if there are any contacts on the SIM (presuming it's not PIN protected. If it is, you're stuffed from this respect, as some people might have used an older contract sim in the Hero as an upgrade phone, perhaps with a few phonebook entries you could try out?
Failing that, I'm not sure how else you could really do this You could go into the network's store, and give them the SIM, and ask them if they could get the owner to contact you, if you gave them an email address. They would probably be able to do that, as there would be no data protection issue.

That will only work if rooted, since you can't access /data without root on the Hero.
If you could root the device, you could sort it easily. The trouble is that it's a bit iffy... If the OP PMs me, I will give him a few suggestions in private, as he's got a long history on XDA. I reckon I can get the contact info out the phone (just had an idea )
Hmmm... Necro fail Doh!
Take the sim card out and put it into another tmobile phone, as the contacts may be stored on there, i know i do to save the hastle when getting a new phone, or use a micro sd card reader check whats on the memory card there may be some contact info.
I am glad to know that there are honest people like you in this world..
Hi,
I rooted my phone using the ultimate s=off guide on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
However, with a SIM card in the phone, it says "No Sim card in phone (emergency calls only)"
I've tried both a Rogers and Mobilicity Sim card and they both work in other phones. How can I get it to read my SIM card?
Thanks in advance for any help. I really hope I can get this working.
I'm really hoping for a reply here, because I have a feeling that the phone is damaged and I bought it on ebay.
I flashed the phone with the royal ginger rom and I tried adding APN settings for Rogers, however nothing pops up for me to select after I click save. It is just an empty black screen.
Is it worth it to buy an unlock code from ebay and try unlocking it that way? It looks like to me that the phone is not recognizing the SIM card at all.
If you used the gfree method and added your APN, it should work, unless theres no coverage in your area.

No it did not. As soon as I got the phone I tried putting my SIM in and it did not ask me to input unlock code. So I rooted it using the gfree method and it still didn't read my SIM card. I'm left to believe that I was sold a broken phone, so I'm going to ask the seller for a refund.

yep, good idea. hardware problem that I'm sure the seller knew about
On a side note. Is it possible that the seller did an unroot and reset to factory settings improperly that is what broke the phone? They claim it was fully functional and the seller did do this before shipping, so if that is the case I''m going to make it clear.

That's your best move but first, slide a piece of folded paper into the SIM slot and then put the SIM card in under it so it'll make contact, that's the only way my MT4G will recoginze the SIM. I use regular notebook paper folded once and cut to be about 1/2 the width of the SIM slot and long enough to let me grab it and pull it out so I can remove the SIM.
Try it, it might work. If it does, it's not a big deal, you can return the phone or you may decide to keep it.

Hmm, this is interesting. I'll try it when I get home. I've tried pushing on the SIM with a bit of pressure while the phone was on and it didn't make a difference though. The SIM slot is pretty tight though, do you place the paper first, then the SIM card?
Tried the paper thing and it still didn't work. Going to have to try and get a refund.
You know, now that I think about it, the phone was powered on when it arrived. It was in postal for about a week, could that have caused the SIM to get damaged?
Hey guys, Im using LG G2 D801 (T-Mobile).
The phone out of nowhere stopped accepting the network I was using (other than T-Mobile) and the phone got locked. After searching all through the internet I found out the unlocking option code (number) but before entering the unlock code it says The phone is locked permanently, and I never ever even tried to unlock it before.
I would really appreciate if anyone would help me fix this, I just got this phone. I'm going crazy!

If you had another sim before on your g2 and it suddenly got locked then I suggest to contact Tmobile about that. Did you bought the phone secondhand? If so do you think it might've been stolen?

Umm, I got this phone from a person who's brother sent it all the way from US 3 days back. And that guy also used local network's sim for 3 days continously and he didnt even get a hint of such blocking thing.
Maybe they give a specific time, or the sim changing created the issue?

I am not sure but I think Tmobile can give us the answer why your phone got permanently locked out of nothing. So my best advice is to contact Tmobile about that cause they can't lock it like that with no reason.

Defo? If its country locked they cant just block it like that. Only thing why they can do that is if the phone got stolen. I suggest you to also search about the perm simlock or there is someway to bypass it. I will also try to search a bit but its getting late ;p.

Anyways, yea I can use wifi and all and I'm afraid if I lose the grip to that thing too .
That guy tells me to reset the phone as I entered a new sim but I wont do it, as I've used G2 Vs980 and it somewhat had the same thing Whenever I used to reset the phone it used to get lock and wont work until I put a valid sim into it, but it had a procedure or unlocking or idk what should i call it. You just had to press a couple of buttons and the phone to used to bypass or skip that setup thing. But as Idk any kind of procedure or this model or idk if any procedure will on it either I cant do it.
Anyways, I'll go to a professional unlocker or something and see uf he can help.

Hey everyone, My dad got his sim locked Verizon galaxy s5 G-900V unlocked a year back and it was working great with his T-mobile sim card. Until few weeks ago when he started to experience that his signal kept dropping and anytime he made calls he got this message on the other line stating ""your account is not authorized to make calls to this phone number "" and this one as well """your phone is not activated to activate your phone please press n key""" . This problem kept persisting until he only could make calls a few times a day because he wasn't getting any signal. I thought that a factory reset might fix the problem but after I did that to my surprise the phone sim-locked back itself to Verizon , I also noticed that if you try and make a call with the locked phone it gives the same message about the phone not being activated like before. So my questions is why did the factory reset sim-lock a phone that was already unlocked and second any idea what was the cause of those messages that prevented the phone to make calls and the fact that they are the exact same messages you get when you are making a call with a incorrect sim card with a sim locked phone.
