[Q] Cant flash custom recovery on i9506 with stock 5.0.1 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a i9506 with the official 5.0.1 rom, and due to my device becoming ridicilously slow after flashing the official rom, I want to try an alternative rom. I have tried flashing custom recovery to root my phone, using Odin 3.0.9 and Odin 3.10, I have tried flashing CWM_6.0.4.6_Non-Touch_GT-I9506 and Philz_Touch__CWM_6.3.7_V5.15.0_unofficial_(fixed_preload), but the phone just reboots like nothing happened, and the knox flag is 0x0.
Odin 3.10 says:

I have enabled USB troubleshooting in developers settings.
Any hints on what I might have done wrong?

Usually you have to root your phone first, then flash the custom recovery.

try this auto root.

Incorrect.
Root has nothing to do with a custom recovery. It are two completely separate things. You never need to be rooted to flash a custom recovery.
You probably just need to uncheck auto-reboot before flashing.

I always rooted before flashing a custom recovery.
And in every guide it said that I have to be rooted first. Or it just gave me that impression..

A binary has no relevance on a separate partition
Rooting before flashing a custom recovery is not required

Yes, guide makers tend to do that. But it's never needed.

I did a noob mistake, I pressed power, home and volume down. When I pressed power, home and volume up, it worked. Thank you for the feedback!

[Q] Recovery Mode Disappeared

Running Samsung-SGH-I337 Galaxy S4 AT&T with 4.2.2, rooted and encrypted of course, I've been trying to flash a custom recovery such as CWM via ROM Manager and also TWRP via GooManager as well as other attempts to get the custom recovery working. When ROM Manager or GooManager tries to set things up it says it works, but when I reboot into recovery mode it actually goes into Download/Odin mode instead. Even if I use the volume up method of getting into recovery mode (download mode is volume down) it goes to download mode instead. I've even rebooted to recovery mode via adb, still goes to download instead. What?
Try flashing it with Odin.
I haven't found a TWRP method that works for the ATT I337 via ODIN. Not sure how that would make a difference either though.
i dont about twrp why not use Philz Touch CWM ?
i can send your a link, pm me if you're interested
I tried flashing the version from here: goo. im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/jflteatt but it fails every time. I've tried different verions of the ATT CWM Advanced Edition as well as different versions of Odin. I've read maybe it had something to do with a locked bootloader? Haven't been able to find much good information on that for my phone.

have you tried other versions of Odin?
Hi,
I'd like to remember you that you have a specific forum for your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att
People there should be of better help than here .

Thanks, I didn't realize I had to look at "All" forums to find my device's forum since the default is just "Top Devices" and didn't see it. If this can be moved please do.
I've been reading and from what I've gathered, since I have MF3 firmware my bootloader is locked down and my only bet is to use Safestrap. I'll be looking into this.
Edit: Also I use encryption which is apparently not a good idea with Safestrap so I'm probably SOL. Awesome.

[Q] [GT-I9506] Can't flash any recovery via Odin

Just bought a phone, already upgraded to latest Lollipop firmware from Samsung.
Knox warranty is 0x0.
Now I want to flash Cyanogenmod, and first I tried to install recovery (CWM/TWRP). Downloaded odin 3.09.3, did everything according to tutorial, odin says everything is ok:
<ID:0/003> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/003> SingleDownload.

Phone reboots into samsung firmware. Turning it off and holding vol up + home + power on brings stock recovery, no changes.
What should I do? Maybe bootloader is locked somehow? How to check and unlock? I did it once on a Nexus 10 tablet. Thanks!
Uncheck auto-reboot in Odin before flashing. That should fix it.

SM-N910F won't install TWRP after reinstalling stock firmware

Hello, I wonder if someone will be able to help with the following problem please.
I made the bad decision of installing Quick Boot on my rooted SM-N910F with stock firmware and it rendered my phone unbootable. I couldn't get to TWRP or anything, so I went in Odin and installed my N910FXXU1BOB4_N910FOXA1BOB4_DBT firmware, but now I don't have a custom recovery anymore and I don't have root.
I've tried to flash twrp-2.8.7.0-trltexx.img.tar with Odin3_v3.10.6 (tried other versions of both as well), but it keeps failing.
The phone says:
Code:
SECURE CHECK FAIL : recovery

Is your reactivation lock turned off?
no my reactivation lock is off. has anyone been able to root? dont want to try encase it ***** up
ok just did cf-root and this worked fine. anyone tried TWRP Manager from playstore?
I have been able to install twrp
First root phone with cf-root via odin and confirm root was successful.
Download the .img file from here https://dl.twrp.me/trltexx/
Then install Flashify from Playstore. Make a backup of your recovery first to be safe.
Now select Flash, recovery image and then choose file. Navigate to the .img file and flash away.
Job done, time for a custom rom

It's failing with the aboot.mbn file because the rom is not meant for the phone or the bootloader on the phone is newer than the bootloader being flashed via Odin.
It appears that the phone has a locked bootloader and AT&T never released a full firmware after 4.2.2, only ota updates.

So how i can resolve this thing
This guide may help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642
I have the Canadian s4 so I can't recommend a method to easily solve the issue. I always recommend flashing a stock rom via Odin but that's not possible with many att phones.

I need help please :(

Hi,
i had an nougat custom rom installed for a long time. now i want to sell the phone and wanted to go back to stock.
i flashed the stock rom with odin. but i noticed the storage size was displayed wrong. 16 instead of 64. So i did some dumb things and now my phone only boot loops.
i tried to do a factory reset within the rom ... it restarted and then it went to recovery ... then it displayd system update will be installed ... then ... NO COMMAND.
and then it loops...
the bad thing is... i disabled developer unlock and usb debugging before... because i wanted everything stock.
dont know what to do... i cant flash the rom anymore in odin now...
i tried to flash revocery twrp-3.2.1-0-dreamlte.img.tar
but it failes too...
