I recently bit off more than I could chew with my S4 (I337). I had 4.4.2 KitKat on it and wanted to root it to add teathering. I decided thought there was no root for 4.4.2 so I thought I would try downgrading to 4.3 then root. This seemed best because I didn't like the way the SD card is handled in 4.4.2 and some of my apps (like ftp server) have stopped working.
When I got the phone back up from flashing with Odin it says it has version 4.3. My WiFi will not turn on. If I slide the switch to on it slides right back to off and the phone tells me that an operation was block (can't remember the full verbage. I have installed and attempted to install many things on my phone. I have used recovery mode / Odin3 and Kies (Kies doesn't allow much).
At this point I just would like to get my phone back to 4.4.2 with the WiFi working. Then I can restore my backup and be back to square one with a lesson learned.
I have an I337 that currently thinks it has version 4.3 on it. The baseband version is I337UCUFNC1 currently. The build number is JSS15J.I337UCUEMK2.
If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I have read and tried many things over a two day period and finally decided to ask for help.
Had this issue before on my Bell Canada S4, but don't recall exact way to fix it.
Think the solution was to find an older (might be newer) stock. I think I used a different version like the Telus Canada version as well and it ended up working. Then you update through kies after.

Wifi does not work because of the modem/kernel mismatch, i.e. MDB modem and MK2 kernel. Not sure what your goal was when you began flashing your phone but since you fortunately did not flash teh MK2 bootloader you are still able to locate the MDB full odin tar and flash back to stock which will resolve your issue.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to upgrade to MK2 or higher while maintaining your unlocked MDB bootloader?

If you don't care about losing your MDB unlocked bootloader you can get to the latest kitkat firmware by flashing the NB1 full odin tar from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223, then once flashing is complete go to settings/more/about phone/software update then take the ota update to NC1 which is the latest kitkat version for our phone.
But what I would do is keep your unlocked MDB bootloader and since you already flashed the MK2 AP file you can get your phone running well again by flashing the MK2 modem: https://mega.co.nz/#!pwESna5I!YK7EKG37xXIG1ReB-Z-mfSMoXNkXQ9t2EdMK9ofgJKg
From there, there are still a number of options available to get to kitkat which I won't get into.

excited to give this a try. rooted with the downgrade method a couple months ago but left with a non-wifi device. my only issue is that the thread says it's for I337UCUFNC1 and our devices are on jss15j.i337ucuemk2. will this fix still work? I've heard on other threads on the subject that the modem kernel doesn't match up with the flashed rom or build number or something.

Same question, different thread!
Not even an hour ago did I answer the same question in a different thread: How do I get WiFi working on my S4?
Well here you go.
My original answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-4-4-2-nb1-t2850878/post54978150#post54978150
The problem is, in order to get WiFi working, you need to install the NB1 modules, but to do that, you need to install Safestrap. However, you can not install Safestrap because the app keeps closing on you. There is a simple fix to this, which I will explain later. For now, just read this WHOLE post BEFORE you do anything, and keep in mind that I am NOT held liable if you mess up your phone. Use this at your own risk.
1.) Root your phone
If you're already rooted with something like SuperSU or Superuser, skip this. If not, read ahead. Download and install the Towelroot APK file attached to this post, open it, and click 'make it ra1n'. If your phone didn't reboot, now you have root (they need to trademark that). Now, down below, I also included the APK for SuperSU. Download and install it. Now open it. When you open it, let it install the 'Normal' way, not via the 'TWRP/CWM' way. Also, when it asks you to disable KNOX, say yes, wait a couple of minutes (it will still be loading) and reboot your phone. Open up SuperSU again, click 'Yes' to disable KNOX again, and now you have a good base to start from.
2.) Install Safestrap AFTER fixing the error
The error your are getting is easily fixed. Go to the Play Store and install 'SELinux Mode Changer'. Open it, grant it root access, and change the mode to 'Permissive'. Now, open up Safestrap again (you mentioned you already installed it), and it shouldn't force close. Click 'Install', and if the 'Reboot to Recovery' option below is not grayed out after that then it worked.
3.) Download and install the NB1 modules
On your phone, download the included NB1 modules ZIP file I attached for you, and once that is done you need to reboot. After the Galaxy S4 logo, you'll see a screen that says 'SAFESTRAP: DISABLED' and there will be a little robot. TIP: To enter Safestrap, press the menu button (physical, hardware key) under 'Recovery' at that screen. To continue to Android, press the back key (again, physical) under the 'System' tab. For now, press the menu button under 'Recovery'. Now, click 'Install' which should be in red, click 'Add zips', and navigate to your Downloads folder. Now click on the NB1 modules ZIP you just downloaded. Swipe to install, and reboot. This time, hit the back key under 'System'.
All done!
Now, Android should (and will) boot up, and you'll have working WiFi! If, for some odd reason, you don't have WiFi- do NOT panic! Just search around for the MF3 modules and flash those! All is good, all is good. A lot of this guide was taken from my post about my personal method of SIM unlocking the AT&T Galaxy S4 without the dialer codes or an AT&T SIM. It was just modified a little to work for you.
Remember, hit thanks!

Those are my exact words. Also, the attached files (NB1 modules, SuperSU, Towelroot, etc.) can be found attached to my post in the link above. Have a good night, and best of luck! :good::good::good:

The reason I am trying to install a new software on it its because ever since the new update tried to install itself I think it messed with the calling function everytime i receive or send a call I cannot be hear or I cannot hear the other person all speakers work. When I had safestrap on I could do a factory reset and everything would work fine but then it would stop working again I dont think its speaker problems but if anyone can help me with my problem it would be great ><

There are custom roms designed to work with Safestrap.
If you want to use the stock rooted rom, you need to use the odin.
Sometime, if there is a conflict between the firmware/bootloader and your modem or between kernel and firmware, there could be problem not getting wifi or call did not work.
Please tell me about your phone.
1. model
2. Baseband
3. Kernel version
3, build number.

You are still on MK2 firmware/bootloader. There must be an error in your software that would prevent you from getting the OTA.
Since you are in MK2 the safestrap version you are using must be 3.71.
You are using the rooted rom so that you see the custom sign every time you boot. I am seeing that sign every time I boot my phone too.
Be patient and let's go step by step.
First try to install the stock MK2 files and see whether you phone works. All the files you need, all the instructions you need to follow, all the options that you can choose can be found here.
I would choose MK2 all in one. Flash it with Odin see the phone is working.

I am currently trying to get the 4.4.4 update to either go through or stop asking. At the moment it fails every time I try to install it. I assume this is because I was rooted but when trying to use safe strap (tried 3.72 and 3.75) to install jelly beans build 6 I kept getting a black screen on boot. I also tried to flash cynogen with the same issue. All I want to do at this point Is go back to stock so the update will go through or get jellybeans to install properly. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
factory reset and odin a fresh copy of 4.4.2. Reroot then install your rom. Why would you ever go to 4.4.4 where you will not have root.
Root really wasn't that important to me. I was interested in custom roms but when I couldn't get one to load decided it was the only way to get rid of those annoying update requests.

You are on NC4 yes? If so you need a pc and you need to odin the unified firmware that is why you got the black screen. Also no jellybeans for you your stuck on all of the current NC4 based roms.
to take the NK1 update will also require a pc and is also non root able or reversible.
To get rid of the update notices freeze sdm.apk using titanium backup pro.

Hey guy's I'm sorry to not just post my own but I'm new to the forum and it wont let me. A few days ago I unrooted my note 3 for the new 4.4.4 update and updated it. Midway through the update it said error and when it rebooted it just stuck at the note 3 custom logo. I've tried resetting it, flashing it, and even just putting on some custom rom. But nothing works and when I download the 4.4.2 firmware from sammobile it's literally nothing, I open it and it is a 0 byte file. A 0 byte file that too all day to download. When I attempt to flash anything I get the error sw rev check fail : [aboot]fused 3 > binary 1. I don't know why or how to get it back up and running. Sammobile seems to be the only place I can even find the right files and it doesn't have the 4.4.2 that I originally had on my note. Can I flash to the new 4.4.4? What do I do? Please help, sorry for not making my own post.

Nobody should want to be touching 4.4.4 with a 10 ft pole it does nothing substantial unless you own a smart watch or want to lose root. That said I think your at the point of no return. Your going to have to odin NK1 to your phone not NC4 the partial update seems to have hit your bootloader with the NK1 locked bl. I would try going into download mode first and checking if it is updated if it is you will then need to odin NK1 if it is not NK1 and it is still nc2 or nc4 look for a mirror to that odin file. But I'm sure your bootloader got updated and that is why it is now rejecting the 4.4.2 you're attempting to load.
My s4 was rooted about a year ago with the logo SAMSUNG and Unlocked with an open lock below it when it boots up. I gave this phone to my girlfriends daughter and forgot to tell her not to try and update it. I don't remember the way i rooted it or what software it had on it at the time.
So when I go to recovery after it loads into an AT&T logo and tries to install it and it gets to 24%. After this it bootloops. Any help would be appreciated. My phone model is SGH-I337 , also not sure of what the original firmware is.

Open lock symbol means your phone is rooted not unlocked.
If you could go to the recovery mode (voloume-up+home+power) it would tell you your firmware version. You could try clear cache, factory reset in recovery mode. If it still gives you the bootloop, you might need to flash the firmware via odin.
You can find instructions and necessary files in here and here.
No recovery options
Sorry I left that part out. When it goes to recovery i get the blue text that say recovery then it goes straight to the AT&T installing. So no recovery options. I can still get to the Odin dowloading screen though and it says im running Samsung Original software

One reason I asked you to go to the recovery option was to know what version of firmware you were on before .
Do you remember you were on jelly bean or kick-kat or lollipop? If you do you can find the firmware for jelly bean and kit-kat on the links I mentioned in the previous message.
If you could not recall your firmware, the latest odin flashable firmware we have is kit-kat NB1.
You can flash that one to revive your phone. Then use twoel root to root the phone. After that you can go to lollipop if you want. All the instructions are there.

Rooting is so easy from that point. Just get towel root and root it. The link also included in my previous post. After the root you might need to disable the AT&T OTA update too. The instructions are also in that post too.

I'm sorry to say that this obviously only works on the 910T model. I could go into a long story about how I've been rooting and roming since the g1 but i wont, instead ill get right into the good stuff. To downgrade flash odin 5.1.1,( im not sure if you even have to do this part but it doesn't hurt) boot up, set up, root it by flashing recovery (TWRP), make sure you unselect auto reboot from odin. after the flash is complete pull the battery, place back in after 30 sec and hold up on the volume, home button, and power. In odin (before you do the following make sure to wipe everything 3x times in recovery and reboot back into recovery then reboot to download mode) flash the following, in BL slot flash the COD6 kernel, and in the CP slot flash COD6 modem. All will pass. Now I didn't boot up, i pulled the battery again and booted to recovery which will still be TWRP, now i did a factory reset and then flashed DaRTHSTALKER v2 and rebooted not expecting it to boot but to my surprise it did and for the last 1hour its been running perfect
I will have some snap shots that I'll be uploading in the next few minutes.
Here are the links for COD6

5.1.1 is better than 5.0.1 in battery and performance. You should have jumped to 4.4.4. ?
I did. I used the OG2 from Sam mobile which was the rent a center note 4 and after a few days the camera failed. Then I flashed dynamic kat and while in a call I used action memo and the system ui FC even after a reset. 5.1.1 battery on all the roms I used (which was all ) still had bleeding battery. Just for the record, you can use DaRTHSTALKER v1 on 4.4.4, but not v2. V2 has the best battery on any Rom I've used to date that's why I chose to go back to 5.0.1, but your milage may very. So far my phone is sipping battery. Besides, you may be right but I did this for the option of choice, more roms to flash is always a good thing.

1 tip for you.
Not just 5.0.1 You can flash kitkat 4.4.4 also with 5.1.1 bootloader/baseband
Flash any kitkat rom along with nadia kernel 4.4.4 and it will work flawlessly

I didn't know that.
Would it be stock tmobile 4.4.4 or the rent a center one? After trying so many I was curious to see about going to 5.0.1 without any alt kernels, close to stock because of the battery drain that's plagued our N4 after the 6.0 updates. I know darthstalker uses a stock tmo kernel he just changed enforcing to permissive. Only on v2 does it work on 5.0.1 but v1 could be used on 4.4.4, but there was more done on the second version so that's why I've now flashed v2 of dstalker.

Still nothing for the t3?
I've been running 601, several note 7 ports and the battery has been very respectable. Why go back?

Because many users like me had issues with battery shutdown at 20% & random reboots with marshmallow .while on lollipop or kitkat doesn't happen.marshmallow is good and very well optimized but not good for note 4.
I was also on 6.0.1 and I followed your instructions. I flashed both the modem and kernel successfully. Darthstalker is installed, but my question is can I flash a stock tw rom with out issue. I want to sim unlock my phone but my octoplus box requires stock 5.1.1.
Yes, you can flash stock 5.1.1 though Odin.

Besides the random shutdowns, LP's multitasking was better. I don't recall exactly what now, but I remember being disappointed in the MM implementation of it. Can anyone comment on what LP multitasking had?
Flashing the 910T all the way back to ANIH (KitKat) has always been possible with Odin, as far as I know. I haven't experimented fully but I have jumped back and forth a couple of times from firmwares noted as "no way back" without problems. It's only if you insist on using .zips via recovery that problems arise.
It's the 910T3 that has problems even with Odin.
Quick question ... if im on qe2 6.0.1 will this work as well ? im rooted stock, unlocked for metro pcs it would be nice to load 4.4.4 on this i got just the rom for it lol

Ok so, as it turns out, my device is apparently an ACTUAL 910T3. DOK2 T3 ROM still fails, but this time it gave the normal "fused 3>binary 1" error that youre supposed to get if you try to downgrade BL's. Progress. Now, lets see if i can get a T3 DOK2/DOG1 kernel/modem to crack this baby open. Anyone know where i can find TWRP flashable kernel/modem of that sort?
Edit: Use the COD kernel for the BL slot. Download the DOK2 T3 ROM from https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...y-steps-n910t3-dofc-dog1-how-to-root-t3177225 Open the md5 file in winrar. Extract the modem.bin to a folder. Flash modem.bin in TWRP (I used 3.09). Make sure "auto reboot" is unchecked. Wait 10-15 seconds after TWRP says "reset." Pull battery. Flash a 5.1.1 T3 compatible ROM (I used a backup of TEKxodus with the rage 1.8 ZL kernel, ymmv) then flash a DOK2 kernel like https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...t/kernel-beastmode-stock-1-0b-n910t3-t3238775
Looks like data will work with this setup, but wifi does not. Cant get wifi to work on any ROM at all besides MM ones. If you can live without wifi, it looks like T3 users will be just fine. If you cant ... well youre stuck with MM for now. Cause Wifi wont work if your BL and modem versions dont match (and MM modem apparently doesnt like LP which isnt surprising). I found a DOK2 T3 kernel, and it did nothing to crack this thing open. Odin failed to flash it. Looks like simple solutions are out. Unless i missed something etremely obvious.
