Hello. I have been searching for hours like a mad man on Google for a solution to my problem, but i'm having no luck. Excuse the nooby nature of this post please. So I rooted my Galaxy S4 and I am trying to get it back to stock by flashing the AT&T md5 onto my phone (Galaxy S4 SGH-I337) through ODIN and it fails every single time. Initially, with ODIN 3.07, it would return something like fail (auth). Then I tried with ODIN 1.85, but that version returns "Complete(Write) operation failed." In addition, I attempted Kies but it too failed (no specific error code), and now the phone wont boot. It says that the firmware upgrade encountered an issue. I am not able to access stock recovery or TWRP because it will automatically go to Download Mode with "Could not do normal boot" in the top left corner if I in any way attempt to access it. I am using the stock cable with USB Debugging enabled. I also tried two different computers, two different cables (one being stock of course), and tried every single usb port on both computers. What went wrong? I will give you my upmost respect if you can solve this. I also am absolutely willing to supply any information you may need. Just ask. (Please don't be bricked. Please don't be bricked)
-With kind regards, Branden.
Let me guess you had the att mf3 firmware and tried retoring by flashing the MDL firmware via odin? You said md5 so I assume mdl? You might at this point still be able to fix it visiting a best buy near you if it has a samsung center. Also att store can reflash mf3.

Click Here throw this thread in the MF3 pile... guys we got another noob here, take a trip to your closest best buy and hope the samsung experience will flash the mf3 update for u
You mention md5, which as febby assumed I'll assume to be mdl, and twrp. Do you have mdl firmware on your phone and did you have twrp installed. Assuming you had twrp you were probably on mdl firmware. If so, I would re-download the firmware and try again. It would help if you could explain where Odin is failing too.

I never actually got TWRP working. I flashed it through Goo Manger and I was never able access it (It went to download mode with "Could not do normal boot" in the corner). Does this change the type of firmware I was on? In both cases of ODIN, the newer version (3.07) fails immediately after you start the process at around NAND Write start. It returns Fail (auth). In the older version (1.8.5), it reports that the write operation failed. I attached screenshots of both cases.
If you never got twrp to work then I'm almost positive you have mf3 firmware. You're best bet is best buy and have them re-flash the firmware.

There is no way to fix your problem currently so like jd1639 said, take it to best buy to the Samsung Experience area and tell them Samsung Kies firmware update fail and it did this to your phone. Thats what I did yesterday, they flashed it and I have my phone working again.

And just so everyone knows...md5 is part of the package name I believe... (.tar.md5) or could be referring to md5 checksum...anyways as was mentioned and you acknowledged, best buy is your best bet

Yeah it is the dreaded one! Root your device and flash a custom ROM or use titanium backup to freeze the update apps.

I recently bit off more than I could chew with my S4 (I337). I had 4.4.2 KitKat on it and wanted to root it to add teathering. I decided thought there was no root for 4.4.2 so I thought I would try downgrading to 4.3 then root. This seemed best because I didn't like the way the SD card is handled in 4.4.2 and some of my apps (like ftp server) have stopped working.
When I got the phone back up from flashing with Odin it says it has version 4.3. My WiFi will not turn on. If I slide the switch to on it slides right back to off and the phone tells me that an operation was block (can't remember the full verbage. I have installed and attempted to install many things on my phone. I have used recovery mode / Odin3 and Kies (Kies doesn't allow much).
At this point I just would like to get my phone back to 4.4.2 with the WiFi working. Then I can restore my backup and be back to square one with a lesson learned.
I have an I337 that currently thinks it has version 4.3 on it. The baseband version is I337UCUFNC1 currently. The build number is JSS15J.I337UCUEMK2.
If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I have read and tried many things over a two day period and finally decided to ask for help.
Had this issue before on my Bell Canada S4, but don't recall exact way to fix it.
Think the solution was to find an older (might be newer) stock. I think I used a different version like the Telus Canada version as well and it ended up working. Then you update through kies after.

Wifi does not work because of the modem/kernel mismatch, i.e. MDB modem and MK2 kernel. Not sure what your goal was when you began flashing your phone but since you fortunately did not flash teh MK2 bootloader you are still able to locate the MDB full odin tar and flash back to stock which will resolve your issue.

If you don't care about losing your MDB unlocked bootloader you can get to the latest kitkat firmware by flashing the NB1 full odin tar from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223, then once flashing is complete go to settings/more/about phone/software update then take the ota update to NC1 which is the latest kitkat version for our phone.
But what I would do is keep your unlocked MDB bootloader and since you already flashed the MK2 AP file you can get your phone running well again by flashing the MK2 modem: https://mega.co.nz/#!pwESna5I!YK7EKG37xXIG1ReB-Z-mfSMoXNkXQ9t2EdMK9ofgJKg
From there, there are still a number of options available to get to kitkat which I won't get into.

excited to give this a try. rooted with the downgrade method a couple months ago but left with a non-wifi device. my only issue is that the thread says it's for I337UCUFNC1 and our devices are on jss15j.i337ucuemk2. will this fix still work? I've heard on other threads on the subject that the modem kernel doesn't match up with the flashed rom or build number or something.

Same question, different thread!
Not even an hour ago did I answer the same question in a different thread: How do I get WiFi working on my S4?
Well here you go.
My original answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-4-4-2-nb1-t2850878/post54978150#post54978150
The problem is, in order to get WiFi working, you need to install the NB1 modules, but to do that, you need to install Safestrap. However, you can not install Safestrap because the app keeps closing on you. There is a simple fix to this, which I will explain later. For now, just read this WHOLE post BEFORE you do anything, and keep in mind that I am NOT held liable if you mess up your phone. Use this at your own risk.
1.) Root your phone
If you're already rooted with something like SuperSU or Superuser, skip this. If not, read ahead. Download and install the Towelroot APK file attached to this post, open it, and click 'make it ra1n'. If your phone didn't reboot, now you have root (they need to trademark that). Now, down below, I also included the APK for SuperSU. Download and install it. Now open it. When you open it, let it install the 'Normal' way, not via the 'TWRP/CWM' way. Also, when it asks you to disable KNOX, say yes, wait a couple of minutes (it will still be loading) and reboot your phone. Open up SuperSU again, click 'Yes' to disable KNOX again, and now you have a good base to start from.
2.) Install Safestrap AFTER fixing the error
The error your are getting is easily fixed. Go to the Play Store and install 'SELinux Mode Changer'. Open it, grant it root access, and change the mode to 'Permissive'. Now, open up Safestrap again (you mentioned you already installed it), and it shouldn't force close. Click 'Install', and if the 'Reboot to Recovery' option below is not grayed out after that then it worked.
3.) Download and install the NB1 modules
On your phone, download the included NB1 modules ZIP file I attached for you, and once that is done you need to reboot. After the Galaxy S4 logo, you'll see a screen that says 'SAFESTRAP: DISABLED' and there will be a little robot. TIP: To enter Safestrap, press the menu button (physical, hardware key) under 'Recovery' at that screen. To continue to Android, press the back key (again, physical) under the 'System' tab. For now, press the menu button under 'Recovery'. Now, click 'Install' which should be in red, click 'Add zips', and navigate to your Downloads folder. Now click on the NB1 modules ZIP you just downloaded. Swipe to install, and reboot. This time, hit the back key under 'System'.
All done!
Now, Android should (and will) boot up, and you'll have working WiFi! If, for some odd reason, you don't have WiFi- do NOT panic! Just search around for the MF3 modules and flash those! All is good, all is good. A lot of this guide was taken from my post about my personal method of SIM unlocking the AT&T Galaxy S4 without the dialer codes or an AT&T SIM. It was just modified a little to work for you.
Remember, hit thanks!

Those are my exact words. Also, the attached files (NB1 modules, SuperSU, Towelroot, etc.) can be found attached to my post in the link above. Have a good night, and best of luck! :good::good::good:

There are custom roms designed to work with Safestrap.
If you want to use the stock rooted rom, you need to use the odin.
Sometime, if there is a conflict between the firmware/bootloader and your modem or between kernel and firmware, there could be problem not getting wifi or call did not work.
Please tell me about your phone.
1. model
2. Baseband
3. Kernel version
3, build number.

You are still on MK2 firmware/bootloader. There must be an error in your software that would prevent you from getting the OTA.
Since you are in MK2 the safestrap version you are using must be 3.71.
You are using the rooted rom so that you see the custom sign every time you boot. I am seeing that sign every time I boot my phone too.
Be patient and let's go step by step.
First try to install the stock MK2 files and see whether you phone works. All the files you need, all the instructions you need to follow, all the options that you can choose can be found here.
I would choose MK2 all in one. Flash it with Odin see the phone is working.

Hi, I started a thread needing help with my wifi but it has developed into not even being able to boot at all; it stops at the galaxy logo and either freezes or keeps booting. I have gone to the Odin page with all the different things to do and flashed the file to get back to the original rom but that is really where the trouble began. right now the only thing I can do with my phone is get into download mode, I can't even get into recovery. I have flashed a pit file that worked the first time but I don't know if that is part of the problem or not. Can someone please give me some directions, thanks
Also the phone won't boot at all unless hooked up to a power supply, the battery alone doesn't do anything.

More info is needed. What firmware / bootloader are you on? Was it rooted? Did you have a custom recovery installed? What version of ODIN are you using?

It is the AT&T s4. To be honest I don't know what firmware I am on, it is the one the Odin page said to use if you want to go back to stock. I never rooted it. Well I finally got into recovery and did a factory reset, now it boots into the AT&T white splash screen before it just turns off. I am also wondering if my battery just died for some reason?

ODIN 10? Try using ODIN 3.09 and see if that helps. The latest update would be Android 4.4.4 NJ4 firmware. This link should help you, it will give you root with safe strap recovery though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642

Check out the link I posted in my last post. It should help you get your phone fixed.
I have been there. I went to the very last option which seems to be what I need unless I am missing something.
Neither odin 3.09 or 3.10 will even flash any file now. it either says invalid md5 or fails when it attempts it.
Well, I finally got it to boot into android but it is flaky at best. It is android 4.3 instead of 4.4 where it was initially. The wifi still doesn't work and now the keyboard keeps crashing everytime I do something. The build is jss15j1337ucuemk2 which I know is older than I had before. Does this give anyone a better idea of what I need to do? If I can get a stable flash then can I flash a modem file to fix the wifi? I really need some direction, thanks
Turns out the battery was completely drained which was causing some of the boot problems, I don't now how that happened but I am charging it now.
Well after using odin 3.8* I got it to install some older firmware ending in mk2 rather than the nc1 or nf4 that I had before the trouble. After I got it to boot, I went back into download mode and flashed the modem file and now everything works execpt I had to force stop Samsung keyboard and use swype. I would like to upgrade my firmware but since for a couple of more weeks it won't have a sim card I can't upgrade OTA. For some reason Kies says that firmware upgrade and initialization isn't supported with this model which makes no sense to me. It also says my firmware is up to date
Does anyone know how to flash to the latest firmware without me going through this nightmare again? thanks

If I were in your shoes I'd flash the nb1 tar file in Odin, any vein should work. See this for the tar file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56453100. You can then ota to the latest firmware which is 4.4.4, nj4

Download a firmaware for your region from sammobile and flash it via odin 3.10. It will solve most of your problems

I agree. But google has basically all he needs. More so rapidgator
I haven't found anything from Samsung to download. If I flash a newer build, do I also need to flash a modem file and a bootloader or can I just flash the PDA? thanks for explaining this to me.
And can I do a dirty flash so I don't have to lose everything again?
well, now I see that there is no sound. so I guess I will have to flash again.

There's. Something I'm yet to understand. Did you finally manage to boot into recovery? If so, flash a custom recovery (I recommend philz touch recovery) then use it to make complete wipe.
Then boot into download mode and flash latest pda firmware in the compressed file you downloaded. Ps: make sure it's from your region.
May be if you provided me with your region I'd get you all the files required
This was the first time ever trying to flash a rom onto a note 3. I downloaded safestrap and installed it, made a back up of my current stock rooted firmware and tried to flash cynogenmod 11 with gapps 4.3. It sent me into a bootloop. i panicked.... I booted back up into recovery and quickly wipe/factory reset. Now my safestrap was gone. So i downloaded what i believe was the stock firmware for my phone and tried to flash through odin but i kept getting an error message that said fused 3 binary 1. I have spent more then 24 hours checking the depths of the internet trying to find the solution to the problem. i will never try to flash anything ever again. This is my last ditch effort. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Please forgive me if this is not in the right place, I RARELY post on here. Thanks everyone.
fused 3: you have kitkat installed
binary 1: Bootloader failed Software Revision Check
usually this error comes when you're trying to downgrade or the flash is corrupt. check your android version and make sure root is good.

You're going to have to get the latest then, at least 4.4.4 and flash via Odin. You can NOT flash full ROMs except Verizon ROMs on the verizon note 3. Its bootloader is locked and can't be unlocked so only official kernels can be loaded.

Don't get 4.4.4 if you go there there is no root and no way back you can check the bootloader and android version by going into download mode if you are very lucky you will have nc4. If your on nc4 or earlier you can root. If your on new your at the mercy of some dev finding root on a 2 year old device I'm not saying development is dead on the note 3 but it certainly does not have the life it had.

I just want to update this so if anyone else stumbles upon it they can have some closure. I flashed 4.4.2 but I payed attention to the build number and was almost positive it was NC4 build. Odin took it and it tooke about 10 minutes to download and install, then it booted me to the Verizon screen and it just froze there. So I flahed the NC4 kernel thinking I might have made the mistake of flashing the NC2 kernel and it finally booted up completely and I was able to use my phone again. Also I took your advice by not flashing 4.4.4. I wanted to though because I was sick of getting update reminders every hour, so I figured out if you freeze SDM 1.0 the reminders stop. So thank you for all the help.
