to use with straight talk, and I just have to bug you all with a few questions.
The basics: I have an active Straight Talk sim card that I want to put in my galaxy S4 that I just purchased (did not know it was Sprint until it was too late). Now, after hours of trying, bricking, unbricking, rooting and getting false hope from the [HOWTO] / [GUIDE] SPH-L720 Domestic SIM Unlock T-Mobile:AT&T:metroPCS:Straighttalk thread (which I assume would be my answer to my problem if not for the fact every attempt at flashing to mf9 bricks my phone because Odin fails everytime), I don't know what to do.
As of right now, my Sprint GS4 has been factory reset to Android V 4.3, baseband version L720VPUEMJA, with the model # SPH-L720. Can I even achieve what I want to do with these parameters and is there anyone out there willing to give me hand?
Thanks for any replies!
First you didn't completely read through the thread, secondly you can't go back so to unlock you need to flash a MDC modem and follow instructions

I mean. I read a lot. I'll be the first to admit I just may not have picked up on something in those 35 pages. Also, i believe I tried to flash my modem through the Odin one-click, but the process would hang when trying to establish the connection. I know the answer is on this forum somewhere, and I can usually follow these type of tech tutorial fairly well, but I'm just stuck. Do you have any specific advice?
If you are on the OTA MJA modem with MJA bootloader with Knox I do not think you can downgrade to any other previous modem without the issues you are describing with bricking and soft bricking.

You wouldn't have a link to that modem file? Maybe I was trying to us the wrong one. I was using "SPH-L720_MDC_Modem.tar.md5", and the program would just stall.

You can downgrade let me find a link
First unlock for international use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415587 follow that guide then go over to domestic and get a unactivated sim card to make sure its working I used T-Mobile unlocked it then canceled my sprint contract. Only downside is for aosp ROMs you have to do a couple edits for them to work
And always run Odin as admin

It worked! ...kind of! I can now make calls, which is a HUGE step forward! Thank you so much!
The only thing is that I cannot send/receive multimedia messages, I have tried all the APNs listed at this page http://apn-settings.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-straight-talk-apn-settings/, but none work. Any ideas?

Hello XDA.
I have a:
Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M (IT'S EITHER A BELL/ROGERS PHONE)
BASEBAND VERSION: I1337MVLUAMDJ
KERNAL VERSION: 3.4.0-1529758 [email protected]#1
BUILD NUMBER: K0T49H.1337MVLUFNE1
The problem is, I had rooted my phone long time ago and wanted to recently unroot and update to the latest KitKat version (I was on jellybean). It would not let be update because it said the device was modified or something of that sort. I tried to unroot by following a tutorial online and flashing with a stock rom.
I did exactly as it says but now my phone is totally messed up. My Wifi no longer works, the apps keep crashing and nothing is working like its suppose too. I do not know what to do to fix this. How do I return my phone back to factory settings as if it is brand new? I have tried flashing stock roms 3 times new (3 different ones using ODIN) and nothing seems to work. I have tried samsung kies and it is still doing the same thing!
Please help.

The websites downloads are very slow. I am currently downloading it and will attempt to flash it. The problem is, I believe I have already tried this and might have somehow messed something else up such as the kernel or something.
Do you know if this could be the case?

No, it would not be the case. Odin flashes the entire firmware, kernel and all. Sammobile is an official site for the firmware so if it doesn't work you might have a hardware issue. But wait for the download.

I'll definitely try flashing this one. Any specific instructions with ODIN for this? (I might be doing something wrong). Also, I do not believe its a hardware issue as it was fine before I attempted to unroot it today and make it factory default stock rom

I think the modem may be an issue. Can someone please confirm?

When I try to slide the WIFI tab, it slides back to off by itself. My phone is i337M and mine and his have a similar issue but different phone type. I flashed 4.4.2 with Odin.
I honestly believe that it's a problem with the kernel/modem. Do you know of a way to change EVERYTHING back to factory settings?

Not sure what else to tell you. If Odin isn't working you may have a hardware issue. Odin should return engaguing to like new. The only thing I can think of is you have an issue with the emmc memory, which isn't good.

Hey guys, Right now i am sitting here very confused. I have two Samsung Galaxy S4's from Sprint. They were given to me by my god sister but i cant figure out how to make them work for Straight Talk. They are both running 4.4.2 and the base band is L720VPUFNAE. I was told by sprint last night that they could be unlocked and that all i needed was a MSL number. I was given the MSL for both phones already but don't know what im suppose to do to the phones to be able to unlock them. I have looked through several threads throughout several forums and i have tried several codes such as *#0011# as well ##3423# but nothing works. I cant find any concrete answers that don't completely confuse me. So my question is...Is there anyway to actually get this phone working on Straight Talk? Does it have to flashed or unlocked first and if so how to actually do that? Is there anyway to do this without rooting the phones? If not whats the easiest way to root the phone to make this possible? Please im Just looking for some help.

Everythign was going perfectly fine until i got booted into philz Recovery. In the video it wasnt stated that a new rom had to be placed on the phone until after everything was wiped.
I didnt have anything on the SD hence i didnt know i had to install from the phone. So i picked the option to reboot but now I cant get past "Samsung Galaxy S4" screen on Start up. I tried to re flash the phone through odin but everything i try fails. I dont know what to do now. I cant start up or get into Recovery Mode, only download mode. When i try to get into the recovery mode all i get is a message saying "Firmware upgrade encounter an issue"
If anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it.

AT&T I337. I have been having problems for the last few days with in call audio. The phone makes a call then it will make the little beep when the call is connected but I can't hear them and they can't hear me. The speakers and the microphone work on everything else as I have tested them. I tried using the headphone/microphone that came with the phone, not working with those either. The only way I can hear somebody during a call is to use a bluetooth headset. I was running |ROM|★GOLDENEYE★|►XXUGNE8◄|Xposed|►34◄|6.14.14 when this started. I did search and tried everything that was suggested in multiple threads but nothing has helped. I flashed back to stock, still didnt help, did a factory reset. Nothing is working. Any suggestions would be appreciated

If I go NB1 then Safestrap is also the recovery used?
Just in case anyone else runs into this problem, my situation was fixed. I called AT&T and we went through the usual scripted troubleshooting, the rep turned it over to their network engineers. The engineers apparently found a bad antenna causing an area outage, it took them 3 days but they did get it fixed and my phone is functioning properly again.

I recently flashed G935U Firmware *4API3 over G935T *4APIA, last night to be precise and right off the bat I must say that INDEED IT IS AND FEELS FASTER THAN STOCK *4APIA. You can just UNINSTALL instead of DISABLING bloat apps.
But other than the debloated firmware, what can we get about this Unlocked version? What is so good about it? Why SM-G935U over SM-G935T Firmware?
Pros & cons? Would you go back to stock?

I'm still on APG1. Do you think it's safe to flash the API3 U firmware over it without taking t-mobiles PIA OTA?

I heard AT&T and T-Mobile are so far the best firmwares of them all.
Try downlading the SM-G935U(ending with *4API3*)
1. Make sure you use the LATEST ODIN VERSION (3.12.3)
2. Latest SAMSUNG USB DRIVERS (v15.61)

Make sure you do a backup of what yoh currenty have, flash the G935U Firmware with ALL THE 4 FILES IN THEIR SLOTS.
After that, make sure to boot into recovery mode menu, wipe cache + data...reboot.
Try it.

I may try it again over the weekend.. So far since going back to the tm firmware ,my battery drain is gone.. battery life is superb once again. Thx for that info.. i flashed all 4 accordingly. Did not wipe cache + data.. that may have been the culprit.. we shall See..

If u had an iphone before u have to unlink ur phone number from imessage. Something like that happened to me that was not getting messages and that was the reason
Installed CSC as XAA variant, so far so good isnt laggy as tmo stock will report battery life after few days, text messages, data and calls are working fine.
Thank you OP
Maybe add the correct APN? for msg?
