Looking to turn my old S4 into a car HUD (mostly just for GPS and Pandora). Plan is to hardwire the charging cable in behind the stereo so it's tied to the ignition (won't drain battery when the car is off). The only major roadblock is forcing the phone to boot up when it receives power. Is there a ROM with this functionality built in or a setting I can change? I've seen a number of people looking to fix glitches that were causing this, but nothing that does this intentionally.
Thanks!
Doesn't the s4 boot up when you put the battery back in after it's taken out? That may be a clue.

So i placed my galaxy tab 7 in the dash of 370z.. its amazing i love it and i would never ever switch away from it. the only issue that im currently having is that when i turn the car on the tab gets power for a quick second then loses power while the car is turning over then has power again. Since the car gets that power for that quick second the screen turns on then quickly turns back off (i use screen off util) and doesnt come back when car is on. i need to find a way to make sure the screen is on when the car is on and the tab has power
Can't you wake the tab up manually

Is there some sort of ROM or app that allows front soft keys for wake functions

Not that I know of

Im Sure there is.
BOCA or unofficial beta cm7 port should have these options
Ill also look, as my car radio was stolen last week, and I might need the tab in there now
im trying to avoid manually having to wake because well frankly that would be annoying... i can see it come on but when i crank i need it to not shut off.. i was hoping if i could find a delay on the screen shut off maybe
If it's not already, if you wired the outlet your charger is plugged into so it is hot at all times it might not do what it's doing, but it still might because when you crank the car the battery voltage may drop below the point that the charger cuts out. In that case a large capacitor like many use on big stereo systems may solve your problem; just ask your local stereo shop about them.
I was driving this weekend using Google maps navigation (stock v4.2.2) and my phone started to shutdown after 45 mins. I tried to turn it back on and it just shutdown back down. Then I noticed that the back of the phone was quite hot. The phone was not charging and I only had GPS navigation and music streaming from Google Music. This was the first time I came across this issue.
Have any of you had your phone overheat while using the GPS navigation?
I suspect that some of the cheap car chargers may drive too many amps into people's phones. I've seen this with my old HTC G2 - it gets hot when plugged into my car charger, and it's doing power-hungry things like running the GPS.

This happend to my old SGSI when using both Google Maps to navigate and streaming music with Spotify when I worked as a Taxi driver. The screen brightness was also set to maximum, which eventually resulted in a permanently burnt in notification bar. I always had the phone connected to a charge but it did not have enough power to keep the phone charged. The battery level would go slowly down.
Every now and then -every few days- the phone would get warm and crash. Removing the battery for a few seconds always resolved the problem.
Try to shut down other apps and background services and see if that helps. You could also put some music onto you sd card and turn of the data connection! Make sure that you have inputted and downloaded you destination in Google maps first Google Maps works fine for me with just gps and no data.
Thanks for the tips... I wish the Nexus 4 had a sd card slot
The thing is that I was not charging my phone at that time. Also my current car charger is a motorola charger that I have been using since the Nexus One days.
Google Maps with the screen on 100pct brightness always gets my phone pretty hot. I usually either turn the screen off or down.

You can turn the screen off and it still announces turns and instructions. Just turn out on when you need it should keep temperature down

Chargers don't "push" current, the phone's load draws it.
I found that when i attempted to charge my rooted LG G2 using an Anker Slim 2 power bank, it will charge, but when I touch the screen or attempt any touch function e.g. go back to home screen, the power bank will stop charging my phone.
Prior to this issue, it would charge for a second and stop automatically, but I found that disabling USB debugging and/or disabling slide aside helped it to it's current state. It seems that I cannot use my phone while I am charging it.
Does anyone else have this peculiar issue? I am using an LG G2 D802 stock.
I wonder if the power bank is not providing the right voltage or something. Maybe something like the Practical Meter would help.

If the power bank is not providing the right voltage wouldn't it not even charge? It is still able to provide power just that I cannot use it when it is charging.
Using the IPhone cable to charge an IPhone gives power pretty darn well, similarly on the Samsung Galaxy Note.
At this point I'm thinking it is quite likely to be a firmware issue.
I am having the same issue charging with a power bank. The current never exceeds 500ma. This is the case even when the phone is switched off. So, this once, I tried switching on the phone and noticed that while the phone was booting (right before CyanogenMod logo appears), the phone was drawing about 1800ma. So, I booted the phone into recovery (I am using TWRP 2.8.6.1) and it seems to be withdrawing between 1500-1870ma. I am not an expert but I feel that this is could be a kernel issue maybe? Can someone figure something out please? I am on CyanogenMod 12.1 17th Oct Nightly.
Being a network specialist, I somehow got the idea that I would be able to bring my finace's N7 back from the grave even though it's outside of my training. I have never owned an N7 nor have I worked on one.
The unit is being shipped to me from Miami while I'm in Berkeley so I have a few days to do some preliminary research on the topic. From what she says, it sounds like the device will not turn on or charge.
I'll do the usual remedies like reconnecting the battery cable and cold boot options, but I'd like some insight if it's possible at all for the device to boot directly from the USB fed power connection without the battery inserted. That is, without any modification to the unit (soldering, etc) just the battery taken out.
If that's the case, I would be able to determine whether just a simple aftermarket battery purchase would be enough.
Any advice?
Hi,
So I was using my Nexus 7 wall mounted, and on KK daydream worked perfectly. I had quotes scrolling all day, and if you needed something you just touched the screen and the quotes would go away, and you could do whatever you needed. I upgraded to 5.1 and now the tablet daydreams for a little while, but then the screen turns off, necessitating pressing the power button to wake the tablet up. I flashed pure nexus for MM last night thinking this was something inherent to 5.1, but it is still doing it under the new rom.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong? I basically just want a screen saver that goes away when you touch the touchscreen.
Thanks,
Josh
No one else is having this problem? Or am I the only one who uses daydream?
So, I had the tablet plugged into an outlet that had two USB ports in it (I installed an outlet that had a regular 110v plug on the top and 2 USB ports where the second outlet would normally be). I pulled the USB cable out of the outlet USB port, and took a standard 1.35a wall wart and plugged it into the regular outlet, and then the tablet daydreamed for several hours before going to sleep. What am I doing wrong?
A few ppl have had issues with 5.1 regarded charging/lag/ deep sleep, but iv yet to see a conclusive answer to these problems, I for one since lollipop have had a few issues, first was serious lag and power drain while charging, now after a few updates on the Rom I'm using I'm only having charging issues, however what promoted me to reply here is today I noticed that when my daydream came on the battery% would stay where it is but if I interrupted the daydream by pressing the power button and tuning it off the battery% would go up, so I'm assuming that daydream is causing some sort of power drain while powered on and charging cause I don't have this issue when my tab is powered off and charging. As for the deep sleep thing I think it's a kernel thing cause at present I'm also testing an update to the ROM I'm using and I'm having the same issue that you have mentioned, I created a thread under (power drain) there is a link to the 5.1 Rom I'm using try it v1.9.4 is stable I did not have the daydream/ deep sleep issue on that.
