Hi Guys,
maybe this was asked before but I will ask especially for Samsung. So how does it work to develope a Custom Rom, based on a Stock Firmware?
I have a Galaxy S4-GT9515 and since there is no Custom Rom, I am thinking about playing around with it now. There are so many issues (Battery Drain,...), this ******* bloatware and i am using my Moto G now.
I develope little apps for Android, but i am not an expert. Rooting, Flashing Customs Roms and so on, using ADB is nothing new for me.
Do you guys have some basic tutorials for me? And where can I get Samsungs Stock firmwares? And what is about the Kernel? How to modify?

Hello everyone,
I personally never owned a Samsung device (always Nexus and mostly with Paranoid Android or Dirty Unicorns ROM) but my girlfriend has one and she defeniately needs it to be flashed :good:
As I am completely new to Samsung devices, I have no idea about all the developers and different ROMs that are out there for the Samsung Note 4 (Snapdragon).
I don't have much time to try around with different ROMs as it isn't my phone.
I need one that is good, stable, fast (and also supports the stylus / samsung apps). So I can flash it quickly and have a happy girlfriend
So that is the reason I an asking in the first place. Else I would just flash around and keep trying until I find the best fit.
I saw CM is officially supporting the Note 4. So that one might be a good solution. But does it have all those stylus samsung stuff?
Any other ROMs I should check out?
Do I need to flash a new radio?
Thanks in advance and sorry for posting another "which ROM" thread. But I can't really test around to find out on my own as it is not my device that I am going to improve !
If n910g, this is highly recommended, although you have to disable or uninstall later all apps that you don't want if you want a debloated rom.

It is N910F.
The link you provided is simply stock android MM?
Yes stock MM, stock is in my experience the most stable and bug free rom build. But the link is for n910g unfortunately.
Stock ROM, and then debloat yourself. Quite honestly speaking, and no offence to anyone, there are no good ROMs available for Note 4. In fact I myself might have not got the phone if I realised the development section is like this. And I am not interested in ported ROMs, so even though there are many available I won't go that way, and I am too dumb to make a ROM for myself, so stock ROM it is.
I agree, stock rom rooted and debloat it, and apply msm tweaks. If you want, xposed as well.

You must flash samsung based rom to have all soen features and samsung apps. I reconnemed kurama rom which in using , its battery friendly, fast and stock based. If you going to flash kurama rom you must flash modem and bootloader for the rom to boot up (only can be flashed from pc with odin)
Hey XDA, I've been reading through the forums on threads regarding Galaxy A5 SM-A510F (2016)
There are some threads gathering up roms but as this is my first time, apart from messing up a locked S2, I would appreciate some pointers as to the most acknowledged and thoroughly made roms. I'm rooting to see if this phones CPU can be used better than how Android 6 Marshmallow currently is.
I have read countless rom flashing guides and am pretty certain i am able to successfully flash stuff onto my phone, what i need to know is which roms to go for.
I appreciate any comments what so ever, cheers!
Welcome to XDA! There aren't really any roms for the a510f unfortunately. The only ROMs seem to be deodexed rooted touchwiz ROMs. Here's a list of them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sam...s-samsung-a5-2016-thread-knowed-roms-t3474745
No cm or aosp for your phone yet.

Hey @arathergreendoid, thank you for your reply!
I think i have mixed up some stuff, i hope you can clarify.
I have stumbled upon something called CF-auto-root. Now after reading through that im a bit confused.
Is a ROM necesarry for rooting a phone? It seems to me ROMs re vamp phones in different ways, but that with auto root, it stays with the same system but rooted.
Thanks
Thats right. You don't have to install a custom ROM after rooting. You'll still be on Samsung's stock skin, but you can install xposed etc to get quite a few features of custom ROMs.
Hello Everyone,
I really like the S7 edge. I have been using Android since the HTC Magic. And I have always flash my android phone to custom rom.
But it feels like Stock roms are closing in on Custom rom nowadays. And since having kids, I did not really have time to go around forums and threads to read and test roms, like I used to before.
So, I am turning to you guys, who are still trying several roms, flashing mobile almost every week, like I used to. What are the special features of custom roms that you have come to like nowadays, that Stock rom is missing? Or is Stock really that good?
!!!! I know all developers are working hard on stock and custom roms, and I'm not asking which specific custom rom or stock rom do you prefer. I'm just asking between the 2 worlds, what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Thanks
Hi,
This question is mostly towards the people that have already installed a custom rom on their GS7.
I have a GS7 G935F model and i was wondering why you guys choose to installed custom rom?
I'm a big fan of custom roms. I have used them in the past on my GS3 T999, because T-mobile didn't release any new updates for the phone. I saw the need to use a custom rom to be on the latest and greatest version and i switched from rom the rom to test witch one suited me best. Now with the GS7 i get frequent updates from samsung and don't see the need, but i'm still really really interested in trying one of the custom roms. So what else does a custom bring that will make me want to make that switch?

most of those frequent updates are for security propose.
custom roms enable you to unlimited experience of customization.
changing any system ui element or installing some apps that need root access and works better on custom roms usually.
but some app or mod you install on custom rom have risks to brick your phone and you need to prepare urself to repair it or search a lot to get stable ones.
:good:

Changing system ui elements or using root apps/ modules. 3 years ago u needed a custom rom for a new look and extra functionality that wasn't normally possible. Nowadays most of those things are possible. I'm searching for the things i can do now if i choose to install a custom rom. Things i could really use.
Which root apps or modules do u use on your phone?
Hello guys,
Sorry if this has been asked many times before. I'm really curious about the performance of Nougat or Oreo using a Custom ROM versus the stock Lollipop on an S4 I9505.
Do the Custom ROMS of Nougat/Oreo really improve the performance on an I9505 compared to the stock Lollipop? How about the battery?
Really looking forward to answers regarding this.
Anyone who knows this or could test this out of me?
Everyone has different needs whereby one custom ROM may be perfect for one person and a stock ROM is perfect for another person.
I highly recommend reading through the custom ROM forum, selecting a few to try, and using it over a few days with your most-used apps.

Thanks for your answer. Is there a specific custom ROM with Oreo/Nougat that you might have in mind when it comes to performance?
Unfortunately, I can't provide any recommendations since I haven't had a working s4 for a months.
