Thinking about converting from Galaxy S4 to LG G3... pros and cons? - G3 General

Has anyone else made this transition? My S4 screen just died (had lines across the screen more and more until the display just up and died yesterday). Wondering if the G3 would be a better phone. A lot of that depends on the individual I guess but thought you all might be able to convince me. Thanks.

I went from an S4 to a G2 to a G3. The S4 was so lagged by TouchWiz. I'm not sure how the software has improved in the last 15 months, but I was never happy with the S4, having it for only 4 months. While the G3 "lags" for some people, the entire user experience of the G3 is just so much better. I've optimised mine and it doesn't lag at all. There are some stutters here and there, but coming from an S4, you won't notice them. Since you can get a G3 for pretty cheap now, I say go for it!

Went from s4 to G3 last month. Pleased so far, not perfect but happy I did it. Alot faster and using the rear buttons with large screen works well. I am using a cm12 ROM in a European version so more ram and 32gb. My only issue is camera but think this is down to the app.

I too went from an S4 to a G3 and glad that I did. I was hesitant at first just because I was so used to my Galaxy devices but I feel that I made a great choice. First big improvement is no more Touchwiz. And after rooting, throwing a custom stock Rom onto it, modified stock kernel and some other small mods, I don't have any lag at all on the G3. The only complaint that I have is kind of slow development for my D851 model but I've just had to get used to not being a flashaholic anymore like I was on my Galaxy devices. Which really, isn't a bad thing at all.

I'm seeing them on eBay for ~$330 easily... occasionally if you catch them, for $300 or less.
Is that about what you would expect to pay?

Also just got here from an s4. The sum card issue did me in. I picked this up from swappa for 340. There's no looking back now, the TouchWiz interface is the most horrible thing ive ever seen, the s4 has too much delay between a button press and something actually happening. The screen is so much prettier, and there's actually development here!

The only thing I miss from my gs4 is the smaller size and deep oled contrast. Also, I've run into some weird sd card file deletion problems with the g3, but I can't really pinpoint that and it hasn't happened recently.
Other than that, the g3 is much better. It's like getting a new laptop. Everything is just faster. Battery life is a better. And most importantly to me, the gs3 has bootloader unlock which my gs4 didn't.

I have both, I think the g3 is more fluid. For phones, I prefer the g3. For tablets, I prefer the galaxy line. Just preference.

Ya i have 32GB so with this version you get 3gb of ram and shes quick and smooth. I say go for it awesome phone. Only no root on 5.0 lollipop unless you downgrade to kk. Il wait do

You can't really go wrong with the G3 IMO. You're future proofed resolution wise (at least for a while), the speaker is quite loud, reception is great and standby time on KitKat is incredible.
I can literally go to sleep with 100% and wake up with 99%

Do it you won't be sorry. I was a die hard Samsung fan till I switched carriers and thought I'd try the g3. I'll never go back

Do you value a camera? If so, Absolutely.. If not.. I'll recommend the Nexus 6.

Does the nexus 6 have a removal battery and suport 128 gig SD card? Honest question not sarcasm

I used SGS4 for a year. Then got LG G3 as soon as it came into market. I'm not looking back. I regret not trying other LG phones now. What a best it is.

S4 visually seems to be nicer (Black Edition). Comfortably in the hand. The G3 lack of something elusive. S4 seemed to me a nicer phone. Well, I really like amoled screens. But the fact is that the G3 is a better phone. In every respect. The quality of the screen, the sound quality of the headphones output (important for me), responsiveness and a pleasure to use, both on the stock rom and crDroid currently used is higher than in G3. We also have more and more new roms to G3.

Hi,
I did a transition from S4 I9500 to LG G3 D855. I had to do this transition because my S4 went suddenly dead and I had to have a phone (due to a trip).
My comments:
Cons - why stay with S4
1. S4 screen is smaller and brighter. Colors are more vivid (but may it's TouchWiz).
2. Due to S4 screen size you could still use it in one hand, LG is much more of a challenge.
3. Standby (Power On/Off) button is on the back, it took me some time to get used for double tap gesture
4. Volume up/down button are on the back as well, so while in phone call you may miss them few time. most of the time I'm pressing on Camera
5. Personally, I liked S4 camera more
Pros - why move to LG G3
1. CPU is Qualcomm Snapdragon (has much more support from XDA community) - This is not an advantage if you have I9505
2. Support of LTE - This is not an advantage if you have I9505
3. It's smoother than S4
4. Battery is better (but not significantly)
5. Screen is bigger, if you are watching videos is much nicer
6. Better IR device, but WatchOn is better than QuickRemote
7. Probably better support for LP and future releases
8. Price is lower than upgrading to Galaxy alternatives (e.g. S5)
Bottom line: LG G3 is a good device but it takes time to get used to it, especially if you are coming from TouchWiz based ROMS
Hope I could help

While quite thorough, many of your points are quite subjective.
CONS -
1) Colours are more vivid on the S4 - This could be a good or bad thing. If you like accurate colours, then this would be a con against the S4. If you like saturated (but inaccurate) colours, then it is a pro.
2) I have small hands and can do many tasks with one hand - though admittedly, not all the time. If someone has average sized hands, I don't think this phone will be a problem for them to use with one hand most of the time.
3/4) Power/Volume buttons - I LOVE that the buttons are on the back and would prefer all of my future phones to have them on the back. This, for me and many people, would be a pro!
5) The G3 camera is better than the S4. You are just stating personal preference, though to be honest, I'm not really sure why you think the S4 camera is better.
So, depending on your taste/preference, there might not be any or many cons at all!

I came from the S4 (i9505) to the G3 and was an avid Samsung fan also.
The push for me was my screen had developed the flicker of death, but what really annoyed the [email protected] out of me was the introduction of Knox, especially since I loved flashing custom roms, eventually settling with CM11 nightlies on my S4.
I thought the transfer from the S4 was going to be difficult, oh how wrong I was! The best innovation I have come across has been knock to lock and knock to wake, I honestly don't know how I lived without it.
The thing about the G3 is that it is not about gimmicks, everything has been developed to make the use of the phone easier to operate without going too far away from vanilla android unlike touchwiz. Can I also say, it is the longest I have stayed on stock...EVER. Me without root[emoji33], never seen that coming!!![emoji13]
My S4 is still a part of my life though, it makes a lovely bedside clock!

[Q] To upgrade or not to upgrade. That is the question.

Hi guys. I have a Galaxy S3 for Verizon and want to upgrade. Of course I am in the first year of my contract and don't have an upgrade available so I will be paying mostly cash for my phone. My two options are Galaxy S4 or G2. I don't like the size of the Notes phone so those are not options. What doo you think guys? I am an advance user and like to flash everything I find around and love speed in my phones. I have read that the G2 is faster and does not lag as much as the Galaxy S4 and reading this forum I see that there are good reviews and solutions to make the G2 even faster. I need help in this one since I am going to spend a lot of cash. Waiting 1 year for my upgrade is simply not an option. Thanks for reading until here.
Best
Mario
That was the same exact choice I had to make. So here was my thought process, and mind you I'm coming from the GNex not the S3 so you're mileage may vary. These are in no particular order, just observations and thoughts I had.
1. Soft buttons. I like them. I like the way the phone looks with no buttons on it's face. G2 wins here.
2. Bezel. Due to the buttons, the G2 has a really sleek and minimal bezel. I don't like big bezels. G2 wins.
3. Battery life. My Gnex was horrendous. The G2 has a 3000mah, the S4 a 2600mah. For me, the G2 won.
4. CPU. G2 is better, it's been really good.
5. Screen. Coming from the GNex I'm a little over Samsungs AMOLED displays. The screen on the G2 is gorgeous, hands down.
6. Button placement. I'm still getting used to the back buttons, but they aren't bad. KnockOn is good, but sometimes it seems a little slow in it's sensitivity.
7. Software. I was afraid the software was going to be bad compared to touchwiz. It's not. I'm really a stock android fan and so far I can live with LG's UI.
I decided the G2 was the better choice for me, and if you are looking for the same thing I am, you may agree. So far I'm quite happy with it. For me it was a huge upgrade from the Gnex.
i wouldnt worry about the screen size because its only .2 inches bigger than the s4... with the softkeyz thats technically the same screen size and stats wise the g2 beats the s4 completely

[Q] why did you go with the G2?

So, I have a Samsung S2 (Sprint)
it's time to upgrade.
It's probably the S4 or the G2 at this point
seems like the S4 has more developers at this point.
but, all I really need is root and wifi tether.
thoughts?

If you like to flash Roms and experiment go with the s4. But if you want top of the line specs with incredible battery life get the g2.
The display on the G2 IMO is superior to that of the s4. It's my view that the G2 display coupled with the thinnest bezels on any international device makes it the 2nd best display after the one on the HTC One X (I really miss that display sorely). The processor on board is also the higher snapdragon model and it shows. Both the S4 and the G2 exhibit SOME frame drops/lag but the G2 is overall a much smoother and less laggy device as compared to the S4. There seems to be consensus regarding this matter by all who reviewed both devices. The camera on both are comparable, one better in some areas than the other in other areas. The battery is reported to be easily better on the G2. My experience has been VERY good and I can get 5 hours+ of screen on time with very heavy use on mobile data. Finally, the G2 would feel like a 'new' device simply because it isn't another Samsung similar to the one you own. Makes the upgrade worth it.
thanks
thank you for both for your opinions. Very helpful.

In a similiar boat. The S3 just wasn't enough of an upgrade to get me out of my Skyrocket, and by the time the S4 came out the styling just got plain ugly (it didn't age well IMO). Was looking hard at the S4 Active, as I liked the uniqueness of the physical buttons and the waterprooffedness, but I'm fan of the pink unicorn and didn't want to get locked into a carrier specific phone with no dev support.
Ultimately what did it for me was that it was on sale for $99, Skyrockets still bring $150 or so on fleabay, so I wanted to get out before it was totally worthless. And that glorious screen, oh, that glorious screen (HTC one was too damn heavy and the lower case htc logo looked childish to me).
Came from the S2 to the G2 on Monday. The G2 rocks. Processor and battery are unbelievable compared to a S2. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Chose this over the note 3. Good choice?

So I just signed up for att and they have an online special both this phone and the note 3 are free. The note 3 is a certified like new device so basically new. The main reason I chose this over the note is rom development this phone has a ton of roms in the other lg section. And the note still has a locked boot loader with no workaround so roms are very few. My question is what do u guys think is this an awesome phone that is with sticking with. I have 14 days to decide and exchange it.

well check for all known issues and if you have them.
first always pixel check on lcd screen with different colors.
sensors, check if they work. Basic stuff I do without leaving store cause that makes returning it that much more easier.
update it, check if audio is good
do a litle search as I am not known with att variant.
other then that, read the amazing discovery thread here in general section, its shows the neat things people found

Coming from Galaxy S4 (which I agree is not the same as Note but close enough) I don't regret it at all. Good size, awesome battery life and plenty of roms to fool around with indeed.
I'd say good choice
If I helped you, please thank me

This. The ATT Note 3 ROM dev section is EMPTY. Dead. Nothing. Maybe a few modified stock's.
G2 has everything imaginable.. AOSP, PA, AOKP, CM, Slim, $randomrom
Yes that's what I'm thinking gonna stick with this one. I think the note 3 is a better device but no roms is a deal breaker for me

My antutu 4 score 36308 beats Samsung 5 and note3.
If you lucky you might score a winner LG g2 like me.
note 3 is pretty unambiguously better, but the size is awkward. it's priced 1.5 times as high. if you're indifferent to size and can get either for free, don't pick the LG G2.
the big differences are the screen digitizer + stylus, replaceable battery, no on-screen buttons hogging your screen and the faster response of the touchscreen... LG G2's response time is mediocre and you notice it.
screen type is a matter of preference; Note 3 can produce a lot broader range of colors and has perfect blacks. white might not look so natural though. the pentile matrix is almost irrelevant to the perceptible detail - it provides the same level of luminance (as opposed to chrominance) info to your eyes and that's the only kind the eyeball cares much about when it comes to detail*. pentile is preferable to RGB-stripe for battery life reasons.
* see pic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrominance
btw, LG G2 kinda sucks if you don't mod it. get it only if you at least plan to root it, put a camera mod on it, get rid of on-screen buttons, lower DPI setting, etc.

you mentioned some good contrast point and you missed one important thing that is the SD card slot too.
However, I would have to strongly disagree that the G2 sucks. Ofc that is your opinion but that kinda too much. Some ppl love the dpi of the phone, and it is also exceptional stocked. For the camera mod you don't need root anymore, and the screen is gorgeous. Performance the g2 comes in par with note 3 in a more compact size. But everyone has their preference.
I agree. While I wish the Note came in a smaller package for the stylus, I don't regret picking up the G2. The Note 3 and G2 are basically the same internals. The major difference is the screen size, stylus, and SD card. I have a Verizon G2 that has built in Wireless Charging, which was something I required. The Note 3 DOES have a wireless charging backplate, but it only makes the phone that much thicker and it already requires 2 hands.
While I kinda wanted to play with the stylus, it wasn't a buzz kill. The G2's 5.2" Edge-2-Edge screen makes for a very compact phone for the size. It is even smaller then the S5 sporting a 5" display.
The major thing is that I can use my G2 with one hand (although it is close), built in wireless charging, has all the power of the current smartphones, amazing battery life, and has tons and tons of development.
The Stock software is very intuitive and takes notes from an AOSP custom rom. Floating Calls and Messages is awesome along with their floating apps and awesome little tweaks and features hidden everywhere. I would recommend you root to at least adjust the DPI. The actual DPI is 440 (resolution x size) but is set at 480. Adjusting the DPI down to 400 feels much better. Installing the Xposed Framework allows you to retain all the neat and thoughtful features of stock but bring in custom tweaks often baked into custom roms such as Themes, Status/Nav bar mods, etc.
Since you are on XDA, that tells me the G2 is a great match for you. For someone like my mom or sister, the Note 3 might be better matched (if they can handle it), else a Galaxy S5.

I used to have GNEX, NOTE1 and NOTE2. I also checked my friends' S3 and S4. Soon I discovered that the Super Amoled Screens all have one thing in common. When it comes to the display of dark scenes with low light(sometimes even in the bright light), you can actually see some irregular blockness all over the screen. That really bothers! And it's the main reason not to choose a Samsung phone anymore.
Eh that is software not hardware but anyways. When you are using the G2 in the dark it is blindingly bright even with the display turned all the way down. The AMOLED s much more usable in the dark. Love my G2 but this still annoys me.

[Q] HELP LG G2 or S4

I am torn between subscribing a two year contract between lg g2 and s4. I dont take into account the newer phones cuz they are a lot expensive. Which should I purchase? I am more into camera, games and multimedias. The things stopping me from leaning to lg g2 is the wierd button placement and the non expandable storage. Is it really uncomfortable in using the volume and wake buttons? I had been reading reviews thesee past few days and alot of the says the speaker are weak and its placement is not good. It csn be easily obstructed by hands. But I do think the g2 is better than s4 due to newer processor and gpu. Any advice on this matter? Thanks in advance

I've had similar doubts recently, and decided to move from Galaxy series to LG.
My first impression regarding buttons position is that there is a perfect reason to put them at the back. I'ts just a matter of getting just on them, and it took one day.
Camera is quite nice, with quality photos in all conditions. If you are devoted mobile photographer, maybe there are some better choices, but for an average user, camera is more that one can expect. (Good camera review)
Speaker is kinda week, and can be obstructed by hands, but, it is not bad at all.
G2 is really a beast, no need to talk about hardware. It isl really a superb smartphone with exceptional screen.
Software is surprisingly nice and friendly to advanced users. I am Cyanogenmod fan, but can live with LG stock ROM without any problems.
If you don't need tons of files on the phone, and don't need long HD video recordings, lack of external storage should't be to hard to live with.
If it means anything, I really believe that currently G2 is a best buy and smart choice

I can live with weak speakers since usually im using headset. But a photowhore hahaha lol. I tend to snap photos every now and then. But the limited memory makes me think twice. the S4 is a great phone, but if you purchase a s4 you'll get a Triband version. I just came out of the S4 and the development is no where near where the LG G2 is. The sprint S4 SPH-L720T can use all of the regular S4 non triband (sph-l720) roms, but guess what, no Spark. If your okay with that, then there is alot of roms and development on the S4. However, on the LG G2 they have more roms and they the roms work across all the variants. That is one reason i really liked it.
The LG G2 already comes with a really close AOSP feel. In fact, out of the box there is very much small things you actually have to do to get it to AOSP. And whatever is missing you can get with Xposed Framework. I sure do not regret it. Even the battery life is better on the G2 because its slightly bigger. The AMOLED screen on the galaxy series have started to bother me becaause im a Graphic Designer and the colors are just too vibrant. On the G2 the colors are right on the money as its the same color space SRGB compared to our monitors. Good lucks man, this device is amazing, it does not get the attention it should. I like Galaxy though because the Developing (for the non triband version) is extremely extremely ahead of its game. But, as long as i have recovery, root and of course deoxed and init, kernel and underclocked, im a happy camper. Sorry for any mistakes, i dont wanna go and proofread. lol

the g2 community is great and the devs are awesome, and offer plenty of support for their roms, there is currently no working miui port for the g2 if that's what you are looking for(there is a v6 port somewhere but it doesn't boot), the 32gb version should satisfy you unless you planning on recording hours of 4k videos(supported with camera mod), also if you are into photography than the stock camera is not all that worth it, root and camera mod will do wonders for the phone
Man no doubt!! G2 is amazing!! is better than S4...
true
That is true, G2 win.
As you may see at STUFF.TV G2 is at second place, beating even S5

I spent a lot of time researching these two options. I had a slightly different short list of functionality that I wanted (both that I could or couldn't live without). The G2 has better hardware specs than the S4, as you probably know, and the benchmarks generally beat it (which gets to your multimedia/gaming requirements). But, they're both great phones and i'm sure you wouldn't have problems with either. They are similar, outstanding phones.
I decided on the G2 because of its camera OIS (only android phone that has it, period). And, it consistently got better reviews on almost all photography-type sites than any other android phone (s4 included). I love the camera, it is very good (for a phone). I just put its HDR pictures and videos on a 720p 50 inch TV - they look outstanding. Obviously not as good as a real camera...

Anyone coming from Samsung flagships?

Hi all, I'm currently using the Galaxy S5 and looking to upgrade to the G4. Anyone has switched to the G4 from Samsung's high end phones like the S6 or the Note 4? Can you give some impressions and comparisons (Camera (most important), screen, performance)? Thanks a lot!
From Note 4.... The G4 should crush the S5 except water resistance
I did it after one month with s6 edge, battery in s6 edge is so bad, other things are ok and almost identical, no lags on both phones. Camera is identical.
I came from the S5 to the G4 and haven't even had a second thought on going back
Camera is amazing. UX 4.0 beats Touchwiz (in my opinion better than S6 as well, my wife has that). Just takes some getting used to the no "hard" home buttons and the power/volume buttons on the back rather than the side but once you do it's actually more convenient knowing a case can protect them even more and are less susceptible to being damaged
I came from galaxy s3. Well, it's obvious that the g4 performs wayyyy much better
Note 4 to G4 here. So far, seems better in all aspects. Only one it might not beat the Note 4 in is battery, but I haven't had for long enough to really see how it averages. Camera is better. UI seems cleaner and easier to use. Love double tap on, as I was used to it with the HTC M8 and missed it on the Note 4. Only weird thing I had to get used to was in the cam app, the 3 software buttons don't show up (have to hit the back button in the camera view).
LG really did well with this phone
Thanks all , would love to hear more from Note 4 and S6 users too!

I made same switch. And yeah, the G4 does seem to have just slightly better performance.

I'll post more as I get to use phone more. Just got yesterday. So far, it's really nice. I had almost written LG off after the Optimus G. Glad I didn't. So far:
PROs for G4 vs Note 4
Lighter. Also noticeably smaller despite screen being almost same size.
Better Camera
UI - UX 4.0 really is nice and light
No Keyboard FCs! Man that was annoying in Lollipop Note 4...keyboard FC but stayed on screen, had to reboot to get rid of
Double tap on and Knock unlock code
Themes
Settings app broken down into proper sections (Note 4 Settings scrolls all day with all settings on a single scrolling list)
Can get a real Glass Screen Protector without the dreaded Halo effect around all edges (Note 4 curved edge to screen caused this no matter which glass protector I used (tried 6).
64 bit processor
Faster in real world use
Cool offers of free stuff from LG
About $200 cheaper
PROs for Note 4
Stylus (I only used a handful of times....was more of a gimmick to me)
Better battery life?
Fingerprint scanner and heartrate monitor (I hardly used either, as the fingerprint scanner required an odd hand placement for such a large phone)
Physical Home button
Just different between the 2:
Home button and volume button placements (I prefer LG after using for a little bit)
Both have IR blaster, large beautiful screens, expandable storage, 3GB RAM, excellent wireless radios.
Switched over from a Samsung Galaxy S4...I traded it in for $100 to At&T so my G4 only cost me $99 + tax on my upgrade option. Loving it so far, praying for root to get rid of the bloatware. :fingers-crossed:
I did. I have the S6e at home and I intend to switch back and fourth. The G4 feels so much bigger. The camera quality is NOT the same and I have tested them both in the same scenarios. The s6 is brighter and crisper than the G4. Stock launchers is far better and faster than TW. TW began to lag on my S6, so I installed Nova Prime and it was super fast again. Battery on the G4 is 10 times better than the S6. I got 36 hrs on my G4 and still had 25% left.
I came from a rooted Note 3. First non-phone-specific: I REALLY REALLY miss root. The ability to block ads is missed and I have to wait to restore all of my titanium backups that I have sitting till the G4 is rooted.
As far as performance goes, my Note 3 was pretty snappy. I haven't noticed very many differences in performance yet. But I've been waiting for the battery to get a few cycles before I really start pushing performance with games and stuff.
Other than that, I don;t really miss my Note 3. The G4 is smaller, looks nicer has a better (but only slightly smaller) screen. I kind of miss AMOLED screen tech for battery and contrast, but everything else makes up for it. Do not regret it.:good:

I have an S6e as well and agree with you. I had a Note 4 before the S6e and now the G4 and it feels downright massive compared to the S6e. The Note 4 felt smaller to me because it was thinner but it was a big device as well. I got rid of my Note 4 because of it's size, I ride motorcycles almost daily and the damned thing was never comfortable in my pocket, it was just too big and rectangle and flat. The S6e is perfect size for me in that regard but I really miss having a larger display (had a Nexus 6 before the Note). Because of the slight curvature of the back of the G4 it makes just enough of a difference in my jeans that it doesn't dig the corners of the phone into my leg when I squeeze the tank in turns, etc.
Cameras between S6e and G4 seem pretty similar to me but there is a difference but I attribute that to Samsung doing a better job of processing the jpg file that's output than LG with the G4 having the ace in the hole of giving you the raw file you can subsequently edit yourself. I know that's not what most people want to do (myself included for phone snaps), but I think the LG camera is better for that reason alone as you can certainly make a better image in the end. All that said, I believe the S6e will do the same once it gets official 5.1.1 and then a proper camera comparo can be done, though in all honesty it's still a phone camera and they are both outstanding for what they are.
Same thoughts on launchers too, the iteration of TW on the S6e is much better than anything they've done before but it still suffers from the same old problems of lag ultimately. I too use Nova (on both phones) and it solves the issue. If forced to use stock, I would probably pick the LG but I do hate the DPI of 640 and everything is so damned big and there's so much wasted screen real estate. The S6e out of the box with it's adjustable grid sizes and what not better utilizes the screen.
Agree on battery life also. On the stock ROM I could make it through a day (I work 18-20h shifts at times) on a single charge but I would cut it close some days. The built in Qi charging is really nice and I have a charger at work and I can just drop the phone on it when I can make it to my office and the quick charge via the INCLUDED wall charger is awesome. So even though the battery life wasn't great, it's quite easy to top it off. I did run the leaked TMo 5.1.1 software for a week or so and the battery life on it is a completely different animal. I could make it nearly 48 hours without a top off, so again, with 5.1.1 I think the S6e will be a lot better device than it currently is. The battery life on my G4 seems great so far. I've run it down to 10% twice now and it was at about 40h off charger each time. The phone itself supports quick charge 2.0 but the included wall charger doesn't. The wall charger charges it incredibly slow so I've been using my S6e charger which charges it in about 1/3 the time. I ordered a proper quick charge 2.0 certified charger that should be here tomorrow along with a Qi sticker for the stock back. All things considered, the G4 battery is certainly longer lasting but more of a pain in the ass to recharge for now (until my free spare battery from the promo shows up lol!) and for the way/scenarios I use my phone I prefer the S6e here. My Note 4 easily crushed them both in this category, it could go just over 3 days before dying.
Coming from S5 (Verizon) to the G4 (Verizon) ...
The S6 with no SD support was a no-go for me.
Battery life seems a little shorter than the S5. I suspect it is due to the beefier processor on the G4 even though the G4 has a bigger battery. The battery on the G4 seems to drop a LOT less when unused however.
I am kinda missing my fingerprint scanner on the S5, but the knock code and "locked files" in gallery help me keep certain pictures away from prying eyes.
Speaking of pictures, this camera is awesome. Period. Check out the "My LG G4 Photography" thread by alexfoxy. The front camera is pretty good too. A lady friend took a few selfies with my phone and said "damn, your phone makes me look good!"
I don't really notice the difference in the screen (size or resolution). S5 looked good and a the size is right for my big hands. G4 is the same.
This is the first phone that I didn't immediately wish for a ROM. I am missing my ad-blocking that requires root, but the default ROM is clean and fast (maybe kudos the the processor). I did have to change home back to Apex, tho.
All in all, very happy with the upgrade.
I'm coming from the Note 4 and I'm pretty sure the G4 is here to stay with me.
I can basically echo what others are saying;
- the ui is cleaner and smoother
- overall phone seems a lot smoother/quicker I haven't had much stuttering. The Note had its moments where it'd freeze or stutter really badly, even on a custom rom
- maybe it's just me but the pictures from the camera seem sharper.
- It feels better in hand aswell.
- The double tap on screen to unlock is nice to have
- the clip tray being an option when I long press where I would usually paste is nice to see as with the Note, the clipboard only showed up in select places
It just seems nicer overall. I do hope root comes soon as I'd want to disable some stuff.
In terms of battery, I feel like the Note might of done better but then again I had certain crap apps disabled *cough* tmo my account *cough*
I can't exactly judge though since my service at work sucks so whatever phone I use drains quickly. For some reason when I had the OnePlus it did a ton better in the poor coverage areas (in terms of battery drain) but it didn't have WiFi calling which is a big deal to me.
I didn't use the spen as much as I initially thought I would. When it came to taking notes I always went back to typing them rather than writing with the stylus. Although it did come in handy for selecting certain parts of a pic online and whatnot and quickly sharing it to something like hangouts.
Fingerprint and shealth I never cared for.
I haven't "missed" my Note 4 yet. I like having new devices and I'm sure I don't use them to their potential as some others do here but for my purposes the phone is great
Even though I have the HTC One M9 Dev Edition, I consider myself coming from the T-Mobile S5 to the T-Mobile G4. The dealmaker for me were the replaceable battery and removable storage. I'm still keeping my S5 of course. I still need a root-capable device.
To ex-note 4 users

Regarding the Note 4I got irritated with it to the point where I paid off half the phone's price to get rid of it. Lollipop was an absolute mess. First, we waited forever. Then when we get it, it really messed up the phone. Issues I had:
1) Constant keyboard FC (where keyboard stays on screen permanent until reboot)...this would happen about once an hour, but only when using special characters ( . , * $ etc).
2) Upon unlocking, I would go to a black screen occasionally, requiring me to press the power button to shut off phone, then turn back on.
3) Trying to open an e-mail from notifications would take me to e-mail APP, but to a blank page with a back button.
4) Sometimes, cellular radio would choose to ignore wireless data altogether despite being in a strong LTE area.
5) Wifi calling would hardly connect, and was as likely to drop mid-call as it was to stay connected
6) Battery life went from 2 days with my usage to about 18 hours.
On top of those Lolli issues, the settings menu was a mess...scroll all day to find the menu I wanted. Missed double tap to wake too.
While I LOVED the look of the M9 and I love HTC in general, I eliminated HTC M9 due to 2 reasons:
1) The camera wasn't a contender with the current flagships and I use it as my primary camera to take pics of my kids.
2) No dual apps on same screen. It's a feature I used on the Note 4, and M9 didn't have it.
The S6 got eliminated due to 3 main reasons:
1) Looks too much like IPhone...sorry, just not my style
2) Touchwiz...granted my opinion is based on the Note 4, but I found it to be overly heavy and loaded with things I don't really use.
3) No expandable storage. I read their point of using high speed EMMC and wanting to keep system fast. What I read in that was "Blah blah blah we want you to pay MORE to get more storage". Again, goes back to too much like IPhone.
I'm not saying the G4 is perfect...I'd love it to have an 8 core processor, but it's really powerful enough as is. It's not overloaded with apps I won't really used or features I don't use. I'm sure I'll find things I don't LOVE as I use it more, but nothing is jumping out at me so far, and considering this has only been out for what...2 weeks, it's still early release, so bugs could be expected somewhat even though I've had none thusfar. I also liked the promotions LG was putting with it considering it's the least expensive of all the flagships out there (at least for us T-Mobile customers...it's $50 less than the M9, $80 less than S6, $180 less than S6E, hell, it's even cheaper than a 16GB IPhone 6).

hah, once their sales figures come in they will not make that same mistake with the s7 is my hunch. g2-g3, m7-m8
Talk about scoring an own goal against LG
g2 vs s4 and g4 vs s6 (!)
At the time if g2 intl version was like g2 korean version i think i would have bought it.
