OK I have been having signal issues in my house never an issue before always had -70 db around there which would be 4 to all bars. Now I get -100 to -112 with only 2 bars? My signal fluctuates so much going from bad to worse I change from global to lte cdma fixes it for 1 minute. I tried airplane mode switching roms. I've tried signal refresh app that helps find closer towers. My data speeds are bad because of it also. I've lived here for 2 years no issues now I do? Do I need new modems I run nc4 always was the best. If they update towers would that effect me? I'm suppose to have xlte I've checked I'm on band 4 but regular speeds 40mbs I get 1mbs now. What do I do?

I almost always have data on edge, except when its below two bars. Now when ever i get more signal then edge, it switches to 3g...the problem is that I get only about 2 bars of 3g inside buildings, and I never have data working at that point, not edge. I have no way to turn off 3g as I dont have the option in any setting.
What should I do I can't take this anymore. By the way I'm runing custom rom froyo.
Thanks for all the help, danny

What rom are you running? I've not seen a rom that doesn't have that option under Mobile Networks (WCDMA/GSM). GSM would be EDGE and WCDMA would be the 3G option.
Just got my nexus 4 yesterday. Love it. But the phone is jumping wildly between 3g and hspa+ in a service area that my note 2 had no trouble holding a 4g signal. wondering if this is a Sim card issue, or if anyone else is having similar problems?
Yes, that is how its supposed to work. Carrier branded phone just don't show the change in the status bar. It is functioning the exact same way.
Nothing to worry about.
Just a heads up, the N4 doesn't show a H+ logo but just the H.
Dial *#*#4636#*#* and make sure your network says HSPAP

It's jumping between hspap and umts. Driving me nuts!
It will only switch to HSPAP when needed otherwise it will stay on umts in order to save battery life. No worries this is normal

Your note 2 is doing the exact same thing. All gsm phones do this. It idles on 3g and when data is called it switches to hspa.

T-Mobile makes the icon for both UMTS and HSPA+ the same icon that's why do you not see it change. Google makes the icons the way the network mode is.
That makes sense! Thanks so much for the help.
According to this map http://ltemap.org/tmobile there are LTE towers in Carrollton and Garland, which means I should be getting LTE in the Plano area. I have the .33 radio flashed, the APN right, and set to LTE/GSM but I'm still not getting LTE? Do the tower signals really not bleed into Plano or am I not doing something right with my phone? I'm on Carbonrom 5/25 nightly. Thanks

You also have to enable LTE on your nexus, unless you jump through hoops, it has to be done every boot because the device resets itself to wcdma preferred. Dial *#*#4636#*#* and hit phone information. Then scroll down until you see a pulldown with "wcdma preferred" and change it to gsm/CDMA/LTE. It then will take good 5 minutes to connect usually. After that initial long time, it usually connects pretty quick if you lose signal.

Maybe they are still testing? Back in March I ended up enabling LTE on my nexus because DC area was supposed to have it up and I got LTE at my house, just no bars to go with it. So when I would test, it was around 7mbps or would drop the signal, would not work anywhere else really, and was spotty. I disabled it and the. In early may decided to try again. Now, anywhere I go I get really good LTE speeds, signal rarely drops. I would say that I'm connected about 95% of the time, and I'm up and about the city a lot, or Virginia even.

You also need an LTE enabled SIM, and if you already have one, you may need to sort things out with the carrier. I know some my American friends had trouble getting LTE to work on AT&T using Blackberries imported from Canada, even though they had LTE sims and LTE plans - they had to call up AT&T and jump through a few hoops. Also at least on AT&T and Canadian carriers, prepaid plans aren't allowed to access LTE (lame) so if you're on prepaid that could be the problem. I don't know anything about TMo, but I'm guessing they may have similar bureaucratic BS to AT&T.
I.have had my s4 for a few days now, and it seems reception is not as good as my s3 was. I am sitting here and my wife's s3 has 4 bars of service, while my s4 has no bars... can anyone help?

If you have not updated your PRL and Profile yet from the house then should go ahead and do that. What modem/firmware are you on? MDC or MDL?
Also, just keep in mind that the signal bars on a lot of devices are not entirely accurate. I had an S3 before getting the S4 and my reception has been about the same but I didn't have both phones at one time to sit together and compare signal bars.
You need to find out the dBm strength to really know how strong the signal is and not go off the signal bars. Try using this on both phones: Network Signal Info and then compare.
I am mdl, I.also installed the program u recommend, and it's sayin -79. But my data is slow.. I have a airwave in my house from Sprint, could that be what's messing with my service??

Hi,
I would like to ask if it is normal to have a maximum of 4 signal bars in S4? I'm already using the optimized modem in my country but still receiving 4 signal bars max in return.
I don't think it is a coverage problem though since I already tried my SIM on my old S2 and it is showing 5 signal bars without any problem.
As of now, the maximum Signal Strength I can get is -77dBm 18a asu (2G).
Any help on this? Should I consider on deviating my 'optimized' country modem and flash a different one?
Thanks!

4 bars is the maximum SHOWN on the Galaxy S4 -77dBm is high!!! I currently have three bars at -98dBm! Basically the Scale is 0 to 4 bars.
I would leave the modem as it is especially as it is supposedly optimized for your country. Don't fix something that isn't broken!
I hope this helps,
4 bars is maximum? Why is that?

how did you optimize the modem ? i seem to having a lot of issues with "Not Registered on Network" and I must restart phone in order to make calls etc . Stock 4.3 android
No I mean I'm already using the optimized modem for my country.
My only worry is I'm still getting 4 bars signal max instead of 5.

Because yes.... Samsung chose it to be like that... There is no problem on that

I don't know what your on about, almost every phone I've ever had has only ever had the display show a maximum of 4 bars, except a small % that had 5 rare I'm pretty sure.
In my radio world S 5 is actually more correct.
If you want more bars go get network signal info from the store.

You are using Wanamlite Rom, right? There's an option in the Wanam Xposed app that controls the number of bars shown. The default in wanamlite is 5 (up to 6), but the signal isn't adjusted to that number of bars unless you tick the 'Adjust signal levels' option.
Thanks problem solved ..it was due to Wanam ...
