Tab 4 7.0 - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Guys of Xda.
I wonder if you who have experience in this business of ROMS. You can cook a kernel for the tab 4 7.0 (SM-T230) having the gpu overclocked and I have seen in the tab 3 ROMS is overclocked 416-620 something and than the cpu. I think it would be a challenge or something similar as these two tablets have the same gpu (Vivante GC1000) and the same company of cpu (Marvell PXA)
Sorry for my English, I do not speak it.
Thanks for your time, have a nice day.

[Q] Overclocking Galaxy Note

how soon before an overclock kernel for galaxy note comes out? Perhaps one which could take it to say 1.8 or even 2 Ghz. I have an S2 right now that is overclocked to 1.6 Ghz and works perfectly fine. No glitches or hangs. The big new display aside, i don't think note offers anything too significant in terms of hard specs if somebody has a rooted galaxy S2, which is like almost everybody these days.
There are only two exciting thing on the Note which are: big screen and S pen. Most of people are buying it because of those two key things instead of running speed. Otherwise, lots of other phones can be choose at this days.

I think the focus should be on optimising the Kernel, ROMs first before overclocking as this would increase the efficiency of the Overclock.

Undecided between Galaxy S4 and Note 3

Hello everyone, first of all, I am galaxy S4 user, I have both octa core and snapdragon. I am pretty sad about the poor battery life of Exynos S4(I play a lot of game) and the lack of custom developpement in the i9500 section.
I am pretty happy with the i9505 even if it "lacks" performance(I know, even if it is already a beast with snapdragon 600) compared to the octa core and the future "Snapdragon 800" which will be rumoured to be integrated in the Galaxy Note 3.
I don't care if this device has 1 inch larger screen or something else. All I need in a phone is the absolute performance and the perfect fluidity when using. The only problem is that I am not somebody patient. I have to wait 4 or 5 month until the Note 3 being released. So does this device really provide enough performance that I should wait for it?
(if it uses the octa core, I am sure to not buy it). Thank you for your advice.
Even when the note 3 is out, there will be another beast coming on the way. It's a continous run given the rapped technology progress! If you are always seeking the ultimate best, then you'll have to change your device every +/- 6 months! Maybe even more frequent in the near future!

Be happy with what you have.
There wont be much noticeable performance again.

Yes, but this time, we will got the fresh new Snapdragon 800, I cannot imagin how gaming will be cool on the big screen fast device. It can be good to take note too.

My new SM-P900 lags a lot!

Hi, I'm new in this forum. I need help. I bought a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 (SM-P900). I know it has two quadcores (one of 1.9 GHz and another of 1.3 GHz) but I think it only use one of them, because it lags a lot when I run games and another apps like chrome. Also when I run benchmarks, they only recognize the 1.9 GHz one. I tested Asphalt 8 and it runs at 20 fps or less. Also it lags when I pass pages in S Note. There's a way to speed up and take advantage of both CPUs? Thanks!
S Note always seems to lag (I don't use it, but others report it.) The app isn't optimized for 12.2". Try Lecture Notes.
Benchmarks see only one CPU because that's their limitation. They couldn't detect the second one even of it was running laps around the first.
Cores don't stack. So even if you have 4 1.9Ghz cores, it doesn't become 7.6Ghz. This is why the amount of Ghz matters so much for gaming and heavy apps. The Exynos is designed for multitasking, not heavy processing(games). That's what Snapdragon is for.
Next is the Mali GPU. It's weaker than the Adreno and doesn't handle 2K very well. Particularly in heavy games. Oh it does Candy Crush just fine , but it's like Intel HD vs Nvidia in terms of the more serious work.
If gaming was a priority, you should've gone for the P905 with the Snapdragon 800 & Adreno GPU.
You can try to get rid of most of the bloatware, that should at least speed it up a bit. Also replace the launcher with Nova or Apex, they use less system resources. (60MB RAM vs 800MB.) You can also try a factory reset, see if that helps.
Maybe someone else with a p900 can tell us if they, too, have the same framerate issue. (I've got the P905.)
The Note 3 N9005 and N900 editions have the same hardware as the P905 and P900 respectively. The N900 with the same Exynos/Mali has the same issues with lag in Gaming as the P900 does.
S Note can't be helped, that's Samsung's fault, bad coding.

Root it and pick one of the stock based roms because they are the only ones with kernel development. I'm on CM 11 because I love aosp but I'm living with the built in kernel. That's the best you're going to get as far as I can see, but there are a lot of really smart folks around here.
Thanks for replying. Your answers helped me
Asphalt 8 has graphics settings where you can change the level of detail. Change the settings to low (which still looks good) and play is completely smooth.
Regarding optimizing general performance, I'd stick with Samsung stock roms as the gpu driver is better than cm based roms. Change the kernel and overclock the cpu and gpu to 2GHz and 667MHz respectively. Use the synapse app to undervolt the cpu and gpu at the highest frequency steps, necessary to avoid thermal limits which drops the clock speeds. With these settings I get 41000 on Antutu and 996/3000+ on Geekbench 3. Very smooth performance for my tablet.
hi guys new to the forum hope you can help..im about to buy the wifi version but because of the lag im tempted with the lte now..my question is a do a lot of art work .sketching etc and recently artrage was released for android..would you say the snapdragon would be better than the exynos version for brush lag etc .I cant seem to get a good answer to this question ..the note 12.2 is a great size and much lighter than a laptop and reat battery life..
sorry wrong forum

[Q] S3 Neo vs. ZenFone 5

Hello everybody, and happy new year! (kinda late )
My question is, that which phone is better. What do you think about these phones and do you have some experience with these phones??
There are a lot phones at the price around 230$, but these are one of the best ones for that price. (I think)
I prefer Galaxy S3 Neo, because of its functions and because is not that big as ZenFone 5, and because of its Android. ZenUI is not that bad on ASUS, but there is almost everything new and you need accustom to it. What I "hate" on the ASUS is design of the phone, but it doesn't matter. On hardware I think ASUS is better, but in camera not, it doesn't have that nice quality pictures and on S3 Neo look better. I will be happy If you post some about these phones what do you think is better and if you have some experience with it, if it is lagging or something like that. Just If you're happy with that phone (if you own it). I don't understand a lot a technology and I'm not expert , sorry for my english and hope you will post something. Thank to everybody.
Zenfone has 2 cores at 1.6Ghz and the S3 neo has 4 cores at 1.2/1.4Ghz. I dont know about cpu cores in mobile devices so i cant tell if those +2 cores are something wow.

Yes, it is true, but everybody says that its "behaving" as quad core 1,6 GHz... (btw. S3 Neo in my country has 1,4 GHZ CPU)

Well antutu says its 22k and the s3 neo is about 20k points. So probably take the zenfone 5 because of the bigger screen but i dont know if it matches the s3 neo in multitasking and general speed. Is it like "Zenfone 5 has an intel cpu with 2 that matches an amd cpu with 4 cores"?
I would always prefer to take qcom device because there is huge support from codeaurora and google ....
Also 1.4 x 4 ghz > 1.6 x 2 ghz , AMOLED > IPS ...
Well, I'm mostly listening to music, sometimes play games (games like Clash of Clans and more...) and browse YT or internet, so I don't think that I need some great multitasking. BTW. I have heard. that ZenFone 5's battery at Android KitKat is really draining... ASUS's Intel CPU is not acting like dual-core, there are some enhanced functions, so it's like quad-core. Also, ZenFone gets Lollipop on April, but i don't think that I need it too much . If you look at GSMArena, people are really happy with S3 Neo, but ZenFone, everybody talking about bad battery, and camera... - So, may I choose S3 Neo?
You can post some other phones for that price, for example some other brands, S3 Neo and ZenFone 5 are the most liked for that price in my country.
I'm not using my phone for games, I need some great phone, which has good battery life, big RAM (because I have a lot of apps on the background) and camera too.... it will be good, if it has some new Android (Lollipop).

Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 vs Galaxy Tab A 7.0, which has better CPU and GPU?

I'm trying to decide between the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 and Galaxy Tab A 7.0. I know that the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 has a Marvell PXA1088 CPU and Vivante GC1000 GPU. Does anyone here know what the exact CPU and GPU is in the Galaxy Tab A 7.0? The specs say T-Shark 2A CPU, but I can't find any information about it. I think it is made by Spreadtrum. I am trying to find the exact model. If anyone has this tablet could you run CPU X and find out? I am trying to figure out which one has the better CPU and GPU (Tab A or Tab 4). Thanks!
The 2016 Tab A 7 is most comparable to the Tab 4 7 LTE (SM-T235). The former has Exynos 3475 while the latter has Exynos 3470. The CPU part is near identical, while the GPU might give Tab A a slight edge in newer games. GC1000 won't stand a chance against modern multi-core GPUs.
Marvell/Spreadtrum is [email protected], don't go near it. Just look at how T230 users cry for development.

Thanks for the reply. I found out from someone else who ran CPU-X that the 2016 Tab A 7.0 (WiFi Only) has a Spreadtrum 1.3 GHz SC8830 CPU and Mali 400-MP2 GPU. I am assuming that the Tab 4 7.0 (WiFi & LTE) with Exynos 3470 CPU and Mali 400-MP4 is much better correct? I can not find where to buy a Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (WiFi & LTE) with Exynos 3475. I guess it has not been released yet? Is there much difference between the 3470 and 3475?

I can't comment on the performance, but GC1000 is a very outdated and under-supported GPU and I don't expect it to be future proof. Exynos 3470 with Mali-400MP4 is not much better though.
The LTE version of Tab A 2016 (SM-T285) has the Exynos 3475, which integrates Mali-T720. It doesn't say "MP", so if it's only a single core, it's not gonna be much better than 400MP4, but it supports some more up-to-date graphics standards.
Samsung just couldn't make up-to-standards small tablets today...

@AndyYan is right. If you have to go for one of them go for the A for the fact it's newer and a little more up to date. My tab 4 isn't to bad with an oc kernel, but I'm not sure I'll ever even try to do much more then Facebook and shopping on Amazon etc with it. I got it a couple weeks ago on clearance and I'm happy I didn't pay full price for it...

I think I will go for the Tab A as well. There is a chance that it will get Marshmellow so that is a plus. I'll just be using it in my car anyway for simple stuff (Nav and Music), no gaming or anything.

Then it should work out pretty well for you, I'd recommend looking into a decent SD card on Amazon, I'm ordering a Samsung Evo 16gb myself since the usable space is a bit low with only 8gb internal... But other wise samsung is really solid with their build quality so I feel really confident with a Samsung tablet... (I have a habit of shattering tablet and phone screens lol)
Goodluck and have fun with it when you get it.

To make it more clearly: LTE Tab A > LTE Tab 4 > WiFi Tab A ≥ WiFi Tab 4. If you have access to the former two, go for them. I had to wait for quite some time before an appropriately priced LTE Tab 4 pops up around me, but it's worth it.

There does not seem to be a date as to when the LTE Tab A is coming out. Like you said, the LTE Tab 4 is kind of hard to find. The WiFi Tab A just dropped to $129, so I think it is pretty reasonable.
My other alternative was the 2nd Gen Nexus 7, but I just can't stand those huge bezels on it and no expandable memory.
Just be aware that Samsung are locking the bootloaders on these Tab A devices, so forget about any kind of development for these devices.
