[GUIDE] [ROOT] Downgrading to Kitkat from Lollipop - Moto E General

Ok so I thought this guide can help some noobs. If u didn't like Lollipop like me and want to revert back to Kitkat/Any custom kitkat ROM just do the following
1. Go to custom recovery, wipe data, cache, format partition
2. Flash whatever ROM u want OR flash a nandroid backup if u had any.
Thats it. It worked for me .. Disclaimer: I m not responsible if u brick ur phone

were you on stock unrooted rom+stock recovery before installing lollipop.

[Q] I don't want to ruin my phone! any experts around?

Hey guys!
I just got my GS3 rooted and installed the touch version of cwm and now am thinking of flashing a custom rom of my choice.
Now before I flashed anything I used the GS3 Toolkit to backup all my device and when I came to dig deeper on how to flash my GS3 I was left with one unanswered question that I couldn't find an answer to. My android version on my current device is 4.1.2 but the rom I want to flash (Dirty Unicorn) is based on 4.3.1. can I just flash it normally or are there a few steps involved to prevent my device from being bricked?
Thanks in advance I hope this helps someone out there as well
Lots of love,
A rookie passionate about Android!
No, I have flashed flashed DU a few times and even dirty flashed it over PA. You shouldn't have any trouble just make sure you follow the directions to the letter and make a backup first.
Good Luck.
Dnt forget to backup your EFS if you want to get back to 4.1.x or 4.2.x
sent from sgs3 -stock 4.3 open europe rom
Just a nandroid backup in the recovery on your external sd card, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, (and then i usually format system) for a clean install. Then go to install zip and choose your zip.
Don't forget to place your rom on your external sd card so you won't format it by mistake( I already did so, just be carefull and take your time):good:

If you made a Nandroid backup of stock rooted, it should be safe to restore that TWRP backup. However, not if you've upgraded to Lollipop and wish to restore back to Stock Rooted Kitkat. To return to 100% stock unrooted firmware and to avoid issues, follow this guide or click the image in my signature.
But if you have a nandroid backup, you were rooted so not totally stock. If you have warranty needs, flash kdz.

Just selecting restore and choosing your Nandroid backup should be fine.
Just make sure you're restoring KK to KK, NOT LP to KK.

[Q] I can't install a custom ROM on my rooted Galaxy S5 G900W8

I am having a problem installing a custom ROM... I root the device using CF-Autoroot and Philz Recovery. TIBU confirms the phone is rooted.
I boot into recovery, then try to install a ROM which is on the ext-SD card. I do a full wipe using Philz Recovery.
When I try to restart the phone, I get a bootloop, NO MATTER WHICH ROM I am trying to install. Then I have to go through the hassle of downloading the original firmware using KIES
and start all over again.
Any help or thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
Wipe before flashing
You must do the full wipe before flashing a new ROM, not after (Because if you are wiping /system after flash, you are leaving your device without OS)
And remember, flash gapps after first boot, not after flashing The rom
P.S you can do a full Nandroid Baclup before flashing a new ROM, because if you get stuck in bootloop again, you can simply enter to recovery and restore backup
Thanks for your input, but that's exactly what I did.. except for the backup part.

bootloader, recovery, root question for motorola newb

just recieved my moto which still has marshmallow 6.0 and have been doing some reading Found the stickies(nicely done) . my question revolves around the systemless root. I can just unlock bootloader, install twrp, backup stock unrooted rom (just in Case) then flash whatever rooted rom I please from those available right ? In other words, I wont need to get root access via this systemless root method unless I want that exact stock rom rooted right ? Also, is there any other concerns for a newb to worry about before flashing a nougat rom like a different bootloader or modem requirement ? Thanks in advance for your help.
Found this not in the stickies section that seems to clear things up for me and be quite straight forward for the rooting process . https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/guide-how-to-root-pure-style-t3503958
recomend this gets stickied as well
You do not need to root the stock ROM unless you are going to run the stock ROM as a rooted ROM.
Custom ROMs do not make changes to bootloader or modems, only boot, system, data, and cache.
Anything else to be aware of? Yes, backup, and get the backup off the device because most ROMs recommend a wipe, which when you wipe internal storage it would delete the default TWRP backup location, thus making returning to stock much more difficult.

If you can still get into TWRP, there is no need to install a stock ROM. If you do, you will not only have to reinstall TWRP, but it will also encrypt your data partition. Just make sure that you perform a wipe to do a clean install of whichever ROM you choose. Also, if you haven't ever formatted the data partition, that will prevent from backing up or installing a custom ROM. If that is the case, make sure you copy any files you have saved because, unlike a wipe, formatting the data partition will delete EVERYTHING on that partition.
