[BUG] Serious Issue: Heating and Battery Drain caused by Mediaserver [TEMPORARY FIX] - YU Yureka Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The main culprit behind heating and battery drainage, is the MEDIASERVER.
If you have the heating issue.. check the Battery Usage, you'll see it there. But sadly it's not fixed yet, and I hope CM developers noticed the problem and working on a fix. Many user are facing this problem like me, but luckily not everyone I guess.
From day one I was facing this issue, I thought I got a faulty device, but after my research I figured out it's a CM bug.
After pulling out my SD card and formatting my device, it was fixed... but for few days, after inserting few files in the Internal Storage the problem came back. The Device became hot like 50°C+ and the battery didn't even last for 3-4 hours, the device was totally un-usable.

What's the reason behind it?
In short, this is mainly happening because of Mediaserver/Media Storage service running in infinite loop in the background due to some special character present in your file's name in your SD or Internal Storage, and it uses full CPU resources, thus it creates heating issue, battery drainage and no deep sleep.
You can read the full problem here.
Temporary Solution
STEP 1:
- Go to all Apps, Disable "Media Storage" and Clear Data.
- REBOOT.
- Go to All Apps again and Enable "Media Storage". Done.
- DO NOT REBOOT, otherwise you to repeat from the process again.
STEP 2: (If you want to use your SD card)
- Create a ".nomedia" file in you SD card's root directory.
- Follow STEP 1 and you are done.
Note:
- Files won't show-up in default apps maybe, so use 3rd-party apps, eg. Quickpic, ES File Explorer, AIMP.
- If you're device starts to heat-up again, repeat STEP 1 again.
Alternate Solution:
You can also try this, but didn't worked for me.. rather it slowed/lagged my device.
I hope CM will fix this serious problem asap in the next update.

As you said i tried the all app - media storage - disable its not working for me.
Can any one tel me how to resolve this issue permanently.

i tried the same and it solved the heating issue but i am not able to view any media content from my sd card. How can i revert this back as i want to keep the media content on SD card and not in phone memory.
I already tried disabling the media server, deleting .nomedia and then enabling the media server but this didnt helped.
Did anyone also faced the same issue ? any suggestion ????

Yikes!
Mediaserver is using more battery (10%) than Screen (8%) on my Nexus 6 running the latest CM12 nightly.
Yikes!

phone heating and battery drainage
my media server is using 52% of the battery any suggestion please?

Used this temporary solution and my problem get sorted but now there is no media in music player and gallery
Sent from my AO5510 using XDA Free mobile app

Noob friendly solution for the Heating and Battery drain {FIXED}
I received my Yu Yureka on 15th February. The problem came after a week or so. The phone functions well but the battery drains at an alarming rate.
1] So the I tried @Tanvir741 solution here. It was a temporary fix and the problem came back again after I put some video files into my micro sd card (SD Ultra Class 10 16GB). Moreover, once you clear APP DATA from Media Storage, you can't view your photos or music files anymore.
So it is like getting yourself a new disease to cure a previous affliction
Then I reset the phone. But the heating problem would start again after I put the microSD card. So one permanent solution is to stop using a microSD card.
2] The other quite geeky one is here:
geeknizer(.)com/fix-android-media-server-scanner-sdcard-cpu-battery-drain/
(Take out the brackets and enter in the address bar)
3] The third one is to find files whose formats are not supported by the phone. In my case it was the .mkv files. I deleted all the Matroska video files from my sd card and now the phone's battery is working like a charm.
Users may have similar problems with other formats. I was going to root my phone and use adb command line to search for corrupted files when it occurred to me that the phone actually prompts me to disconnect while transferring certain file formats from my PC. I thought of getting rid of those file and BINGO! The problem seems to subside.
This is an off chance occurrence so I don't have much hope that users will solve their issues with a similar fashion implied by me. Also I don't know how long it will work.

There are many files that are not supported by Android. Here is a list of all the file formats supported by android:
developer(.)android(.)com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html
Check here if you have any file that is not supported by Android.
To check,
1] Connect your phone to a PC
2] Type a dot [.] in the search bar
3] Sort all the results by type and put them in groups

Fix
Hii,
I got into the problem today morning, after i copied several videos to my phone.
Thought hard, saw CPU characteristics( Saw 'mediaserver' over there but couldn't recognize as culprit ), rebooted several times .
Then found this thread on xda, however after looking the explanation i could think a simple solution and it has worked for me.
Simple delete those files, Reboot
you are done.
you can even check CPU usage, u wont find 'mediaserver' over there anymore.
My case those were '.mkv', I am thinking to copy the file as '.mp4'(no encoding, simple extension change) AFAIK MX player will still play the file and 'mediaserver' wont go into loop.

sd card not scanning
i did as the following steps.. but now my phn is not reading any file from the sd card.. how to fix it.. please tell me.

MTP Application Crashing

Where would I start to troubleshoot an issue with the MTP Application?
If I select the Media Player or Kies options, the MTP Application continually crashes and restarts every second.
I have connected the device in USB Debugging mode, then reconnected again and it still does it.
I've done the driver installation in the kies application and I've reset both the PC and the phone, behaviour is consistent. Kind of frustrating as I can't upload media (DRM....).
IF anyone has advice on where I could start troubleshooting this issue I would greatly appreciate it

Here is a fix my friend but say goodbye to your saved games and files..
[try transferring or backup your files using wifi or bluetooth in case you have important files on your phone]
[and also, try to backup your phone contacts to your sim because formatting will wipe your entire phone's data]
Once that is done, try to do the following.. go to Settings -> SD card and Phone Storage -> Unmount SD -> Format SD
Once you have formatted the SD card, go to Settings -> Privacy and then choose "Factory Data Reset".
Your phone should now be detected once you connect it to your computer this time around.
Hope this helps.
I've done this once before. I spent a significant amount of time getting the right data under my contacts and linking them properly, I need to know how to find out why kies is borked. Otherwise I'll wipe the phone and possibly be stuck in the same situation again.
Have you had this issue occur and this fixed it though?
I had similar problem. Tried everything you mentioned and nothing helped.
In the end I formated externas SD card. Flashed SG1 firmware and rooted the device (all done in a matter of 30 min).
It fixed the MTP aplication crashes (dont know what of three really did it).
I'd been having the same problem on my Galaxy S.
It had been working fine, and I've done nothing to the phone to change anything with it.
Just opened the MTP App on the phone, then just crash, restart, crash etc and kept looping like that.
(Mines the Optus AU version too - might be a problem with something on there?)
Anyways I used the WebSharing app to download all my files to a zip on my computer, then unmounted and formatted the internal SD card - and then rebooted the phone.
Once it rebooted, moved the zip files (unzipped) back onto the internal SD as they were originally and plugged into the USB and it all worked again.
Hello everyone, I'm new here and own a Galaxy S now for two weeks. Yesterday I to noticed/encountered the rebooting mtp application when plugging in the cable while the USB settings are set to 'connect to Kies'.
To be short I tried all offered solutions found on this topic on the web and in the end only the unmounting and formatting of the INTERNAL sd has helpt.
I made a backup via Websharing since selecting the 'mass storage' option didn't work for me yesterday. Obviously this is a slow way to make a backup. Try to only back-up what you deem to be imported files.
So the unmounting - formatting and rebooting (mounting) of the INTERNAL cards is the quickest solution and will safe you hours of work!
HOWEVER
Today I had the same rebooting MTP issue again. But since re-installing kies version 1.5.1.10083 I'm able to connect to the pc via 'Mass Storage'
You will see drive F: and drive G: if you at least succeed in connecting via the mass storage option.
I than did 2 things:
1.
I recently made some pictures and also copied some pictures from my pc to the G: drive ( INTERNAL SD) I renamed the pictures to short names so they didn't exceed 16 characters (one of the solutions I read online ).
2.
In the map data I found folders with the names of in my case Touiteur and Beautiful Widgets. Both folders contain a CACHE folder. I deleted the complete touiteur folder and thus also its CACHE folder.
Now I connected my Galaxy S to the usb cable again and behold, the rebooting of the MTP has stopped!
Now I'm not technical at all and have struggled with this issue the whole of yesterday ending up formatting my internal SD. And to be honest I don't know for sure what the working solution is in the end but can narrow it down to 2 things you may try if you can connect via the 'mass storage' option:
1. try giving pictures in G:\DCIM\folder name a short name if they are long or try to remove the pictures completely (make backup) just to see if either of this works.
2. Delete the CACHE folders in the APP folder under G:\data and see if this works
Again, I'm unsure what or why I solved it on my Galaxy S but give it a try if you have tried everthing else and do not want to format your INTERNAL SD
I've got a fix
Alright guys, I posted a video on how to repair the MTP application problem, especially for you spencee, check it out. Go to youtube and copy paste: MTP Application Crash Fix. And click the first one. It's by abrar447. Hope this helps!
Ok, I'm having this issue again! I watched the video by Abrar447 and deleted every single file in cash I could find ( actually did a search on the word 'cache' on the internal drive. Although I know this should now work my TMP application keeps rebooting. Am I missing something here ?

Thanks again for posting this video. It actually worked for me, been trying to find the solution to that MTP crashing problem when trying to connect in Kies mode.
narrowed it down
I have this problem too. I saw the youtube vid and decided i'd delete one cache folder a time to see what was causing the problem. Found out that is was 'Sound Hound'. So i deleted the cache folder, MTP worked, then i used the app so it would create another cache folder, MTP clashed. Did it many times.
Hope this helps.

Really weird problem , after clearing the cache it works again.
I reccomend using CacheMate for Root Users (free or pro) which you can find in the market , you dont need to delete all the cache manually then
Hi..
Anyone know the exact name for the MTP Application..is there a way to replace the problematic version with a working version..On my ship with ROM. i9000dxjf4..MTP application showed steadily without keep crashing..
MtpApplication.apk
MtpApplication.odex.
If anyone has the working version (no crashing on Kies connection). can post here..I would like to experiment to overwrite it with a working version..

Soundhound
Hello,
I also had a lot of issue's with Kies. I also tried a lot. But the one thing that helped was removing SOUND HOUND (application and directory)
Hope this helpes for some people!
Cheers
I emptied the cache under the Android folder and it started working again. The thing is, as soon as I open the gallery, the cache is written again. I'll try to see if the new update fixed the issue.
The problem is the not cache in itself. The bug is the '16 character extension' problem. Google it if you like. The solution is to delete all the files having its last extension greater then 16 char, in your internal or external SD card.
I asked about the fix on twitter, the reply was this.
I found a small program which tell you which files are the problem.
Credits to the original creator, browse your SD card directory
Hello everybody,
i'm a bit new to Galaxy I9000 but i had the same issue with Kies and MTP apps. Actually i found out that the issue seems to be linked to file extension longer than 16 chars. Usually those files are inside cache directories so, you should just cancel them to fix it. I've got kies running correctly since then (last update of Kies running n Windows 7 64 bit). I know there is also a little app to scan files to search the 16 digits extension called "FileSearcherforKiesFix.rar" you can find it and download just putting it in google.
Hope this can help!

Is there an apk version of this? I'm unable to connect the phone to my x64 win7 at all right now...

Have tried everything and nothing seemed to work...
The "FileSearcherforKiesFix" finds some problematic files, but not all off them. Manually deleting long file names and cache folders seems to be insufficient either.. I think that there must be some cache files in other partitions that we cannot access via "Mass Storage" that are causing problems too. So we have to clear those files...
But thanks to a comment in this topic I have found a working solution:
1º Delete any problematic file with the "FileSearcherforKiesFix" method.
2º Use this app: http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.aac.cachemate.demo , with the option "PowerClear" turned on, and clear all cache from the phone.
After this the MTP thing installed instantly and now everything works.
NOTE: The "PowerClear" option may cause some undesired effects in some apps.. Backup first, or, use at your own risk.
For me the problem started when I copied lots of MP3 to my phone.
I solve this like this:
I connected my phone using the media mode.
Searched for all *.mp3 files
renamed them all to *.! (whatever extension)
(I use a program called FAR Manager, which is something similar to the old Norton commander, but for windows)
Connected with Kies and it got recognised
Hope it helps others

How to REALLY Root and update your 2.2.1 Slide to cyanogen 7 - Noob Edition Summer 11

You have undoubtedly seen lot of Rooting guides for the Mytouch 3G Slide, claiming to root the phone:
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_myTouch_Slide:_Full_Update_Guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108316 New way to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999121 Ultra Easy Rooter [dbzfanatic][xologist]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025336 How-To [Root][NewLinks] The myTouch 3GS if you updated to Offical 2.2.1 and lost root
SuperOneClick doesn't work. Nothing works, I've tried them all several times from several different angles. Therer is some sort of NAND lock on the phone, above and beyond typical. Anyways.
None of the aformentioned guides work, so won't waste your time like I did. They are also all written by people who can not communicate well with other human life forms, and they assume you have a CS and/or IS degree, and also assume you have all the software installed on your machine that they have on theirs, and have all the same settings on your phone that you "should" have on yours and they also assume you are doing some "obvious" steps in the middle of their steps that you should know how to do. They won't tell you that, but they do. So here is the REAL definitive step by step guide, with pics, on how to do it. BTW, you don't need a gold card. You don't need to mess with any consol crap. This should take 15-20 minutes max. What we're basically going to be doing is downgrading to 2.1-update1, then rooting, then putting on the Cyanogen Mod, then adding the google apps (which are not included in the cyanogen mod). I've put as many pics as I could and tried to do a step by step that ANYONE can follow.
I was using Windows 7 64-bit SP1 and I think these are the things that you need to have set up, you may not need them but I was trying so many of everything that I don't even know if they are all required, I'm sure I missed some things, but I will keep editing this guide as needed)
*Make sure you have at least 25MB of free space on your phone's internal memory.
*Make sure you've backed everything up you want to (text messages, bookmarks, programs, etc) But the google cloud should keep most your other stuff okay. (email etc) http://tinyurl.com/3b4qp6q
*Turn USB Debugging on your phone. (Settings, applications, development > USB Debugging - check)
*Turn phone to charge mode only when you plug in the USB cable
*PDAnet was running on the PC (This is required it will install the correct driver for step 1, though it's a tethering app and you won't need it for that) - http://junefabrics.com/android/download.php
1. Plug in phone and go to device manager from control panel on your computer.
You open the "Android USB Devices" and see what driver it says.
If it says something like "Mytouch Slide 3G"

}
go to Update driver > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick
pick this one: "ADB Device Interface" , say okay, etc.
If it does say "ADB Drvice Interface" you're good. Exit out of that.
2. Download "T-Mobile_myTouch_3G_Slide_Software_Update_2.15.531.3.exe" from here http://www.htc.com/us/support/t-mobile-mytouch-3g-slide/downloads/ (157MB)
3. Go to your temp windows folder. IF you do Start > Search %TEMP% it should pop up. Keep on eye on this folder as you do the next step. (Maybe sort by date modified to help)
4. Double Click the "T-Mobile_myTouch_3G_Slide_Software_Update_2.15.531.3.exe" file and have it extract everything. At the first main screen, just wait there with it open and not installed.
You hopefully should have seen some folders be created in your temp file. There were 2 on mine, like so, check them both out:
When you see the one that looks like this:
and has a folder structure like this:
that's the folder you want to copy. So:
5. Highlight the folder with "ARUWizard.exe" and "rom.zip" in it. Mine had about 74 files in it. Copy it, and copy it to another part of your hard drive, and rename that awful folder, sheesh. (not needed)
6. You can close out of the Rom Update Utility.
7. In that NEW copied folder, delete "rom.zip"
8. Download the ~140 MB "ESPRIMG.zip" from here: http://www.4shared.com/file/OsmF_ZD7/ESPRIMG.html
9. Put it into the folder that we copied out, and rename it from ESPRIMG.zip TO rom.zip
10. Now, while you are in that folder, "ARUWizard.exe" check check, next, etc.
11. This will downgrade your phone from 2.2.1 to 2.1-update1
12. Tada! Good job. Now, go download the lastest Cyanogen firmware ROM here: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=espresso
13. Rename the "update-cm-7.X.X-Slide-signed.zip" to "update.zip"
14. While you are doing this, download the lastest Google Apps from here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version#Google_Apps Mine was called "gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip" and put that on your phone's memory card as well, no renaming needed.
15. Turn off your phone and take out the memory card and put it in your computer (or turn the phone back into a mountable drive) and copy over the update.zip onto the root director of your memory card.
16. Hold "down volume" and "power" which will boot you into a techy looking screen. Ignore any errors, the volume up and down navigates, so go into "Recovery" Mode.
17. Once in the Recovery, you will see a device with a triangle. Press "Volume Up" & the "Power" button.
18. Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset. Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
19. See the option to "apply sdcard:update.zip" ? Do it, with power as confirm. This will put the Cyanogen mod on your phone!
20. Reboot system now. Now, you should boot into Cyanogen 2.3.x! However, you will notice you don't have any of the google apps.
21. So, Now, go into your programs on the phone, and you will see "Rom Manager" a eye with a tophat. Say "Install Rom from SD Card" and pick the "gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip" You may have to fiddle with the plugging in USB/etc to get access to this, you don't have to buy the program, it will do it, but you have to have it set up so you can see the MicroSDcard, etc.
It will reboot your phone and you will now and install all the google apps. The most important one is MARKET, so you can download stuff. It will now go through all the TOS for each google program you said you want. The rest the wizard should navigate you through properly.
Holy hell this was a terribly troubleshooting process which probably took me 20 hours to figure out they were ALL wrong. Big thanks to "Da Maestro" who helped me on Cyanogenmod.
Enjoy!
wait wait wait... so will this method revert the hboot from 1. whatever to the older version and allow S-OFF?!
yeah, I don't even know what you're saying, I'm such the nube. I don't think this deals with the S-On/Off problem though. I saw some other posts that fixed that. This method does nothing to do with that, as far as I know
All I'm saying is I have Cyanogen 7 on my phone and this is how I did it from 2.2.1 stock.

as far as i'm aware of, there's no S-OFF after you upgrade to 2.2.1, so i was thinking if you can check your hboot by powering off your phone and then turn it on by holding down volume down and power button. hboot version should be on the very top of your screen.
Bootloader error
I get 140 bootloader version error from the RUU. So far I have not been able to get any of the root mrthods to work with my slide.

Well at least your not alone in that club. Getting the same error, even using a goldcard. I guess back to the drawing board for us at least.
yeah I had that error too,
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/28205-stuck-on-step-8-rooting/
EDIT: To fix it, make sure PDANet it installed and that will install the driver so you can change it from "t-mobile mytouch 3G" to "ADB Device..." It's step 1.

That is one thing I didn't see, although upon checking it,s not there, and I do have the android SDK installed :/
If it helps any I'm on windows 7 ultimate x64 (since the problem seems driver related).
*edit 1* I keep seeing places where it says to check for the ADB interface driver, but nobody seems to know how to actually install said driver, or where it can be found at.
*edit 2* Turns out that PDAnet is what supplies the ADB driver, so as it happens that IS required (and here I thought that was a stupid tethering app)
*Edit 3* So just to make sure I downloaded the software on the posted links just to make sure some of the other versions I had were not incompatable, and still no joy. At this point I've spent a good 6 hours trying to root this phone and growing significantly more annoyed with it. If anyone has any feel free to contact me, I'd really like to get this working.
hey thanks, I'll edit the guide to say it's required.
Same here, went through all of the steps, still keep getting the 140 error.
edit* went all the way through the steps again very thoroughly, still getting the same error 140. Any Ideas?
It was such a complicated process, dealing with all the other guides some part of them may have worked that I missed. Maybe you do indeed need to make a gold card. It didn't work (I think) on one MicroSD card so I changed to another one.
So I guess make a gold card and give it a try. This is the guide I used to make a gold card:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Create_a_Goldcard
Thanks for helping me get this guide correct.
One thing I did have to do is change USB ports and USB cables, as stupid as that is, I know, I know. The ones in my monitor worked but the front ones on my computer didn't work with the ROM update utility, but I think the error code I was getting was 170 or 171 USB disconnect error.

What if you were to save that rom.zip file directly on the SD card, as the update.zip file first? Would that load 2.1? Because the installer wont.
I'm going to try it....
Nope, didn't work.
The gold card would be great if I had a second sd card, guess I will have to go buy one if I want to regain root.
the gold card worked for me just fine after getting my replacement phone on 2.2.1 all i did was back up everything on my sd card make and use the gold card get root and put every thing back on my sd card just fine.

Do you have PDANet Installed?
Yes, its installed and running. Also, I made a gold card out of my SD card and tried again, and still got the same error. I am starting to hate T-Mobile!

Do you have a link to the Gold Card method that worked for you? I keep getting a bootloader error with this method, about ready to give up.

did this as it reads, i am not a super geek, just know how to follow a list of things to do. i rooted one other time before this when it was really hard to do still. i thought this way was easier
I'm kinda confused why there is gold card discussion here. The method outlined in the first post specifically says that you don't need a gold card. Does this method not work and is that why you are trying gold card stuff?

I don't think should have it running while you root. (I would assume that would just cause problems.) You just need to install it for the usb drivers and make sure it works.

[Q] New to forums, new to rooting

Hello everyone.
I'm new to rooting, however, I have managed to root my SM-N9005. I followed a long and for me; difficult process, but I got there in the end. Odin, Tar file & SuperSU all led me to where I am now. My friend told me that I should be using Cyanogen Mod; which is installed. But I've noticed a few perplexing issues which I'm hoping you clever guys might be able to help me out with.
1) Since Modding, my SD card is no longer showing up in "My Computer" when I click on the phone icon. It is still there according to the "Storage" options on the phone and it is populated, but not showing up in my computer.
2) We have a number of devices in our house. 10" tablets, 7" tablets & various android phones. All these show up when I go to Google store, however, since the root, mine is nowhere to be found and I have no idea what to do. I cannot add software old or new, unless I go down the torrent route. MY friend told me that I should install "[GAPPS][4.4.x/4.3.x] OFFICIAL Up-to-Date PA-GOOGLE APPS (All ROM's) [2014-06-08]" as this would solve my issue. So I installed it to my SD card, booted up with Vol up, Power on & home button, selected load zip.... = Fail
Look guys, I'm an old man who suffers from dyslexia, I have honestly tried my hardest, but I'm stumped.
I throw myself at your mercy and beg you for help.
Many thanks in advance.

To make this clear.
1) Factory Reset your phone using odin and install latest firmware that can be downloaded here.
2) Flash your phone using odin. Just get rid of Cyanogen Mod first. (Install it later if you want)
3 After flashing stock rom, Check your SD card is it working or not.
4) If you want to root your phone you can go here and download appropriate file( Which is if you download latest firmware, it should be KK 4.4.2)
4) Flash the file using Odin.
5) If ONLY the problem of SD Card still occur, Try this one here.
Troubleshooting
1) If you are in stock rom and you dont have any problem with SDCARD, then it should be the CyanogenMod problem (I'd never install this rom so i don't know). You can ask on CyanogenMod Thread.
@Wulfrune :
in addition to @IzArsha post,
if you have problem with internal SD card, coming from CM/AOSP to TW rom,
you can try this.

Thank you for the reply.
However, please understand that you're talking to someone with ZERO experience of rooting and in a nutshell..... I'm afraid I've almost no idea what you're talking about The way I usually get around this is to follow video advice.
I will try my very best to get around this problem, but it's abundantly clear to me that I'm in over my head and that it was clearly a huge mistake on my behalf messing around with the phone in the first place. I just HATE the way Samsung think that just because I bought their phone that they own a piece of me.
Given my above statement, I will of course understand if you've no wish to spoon feed me through this process..... But if you can be of further help, I will of course, be very grateful.
The main thing is, you had noble intentions and wanted to help and I think you sincerely for that.

Here's an update on the state of play .
I have upon advice here updated to Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones 1.5.29.0.
I have also changed out my 64gb SD and tried a different one. whilst it still didn't show up in my computer, it did enable me to load up Google's stock package, which in turn, via play store app on the phone lets me load apps again.
I have come to the conclusion that Cyanogenmod might not have been the best route for me and that I'd probably be better off without it. I'm pretty sure it may even go a long way to solving the issues I'm having with the SD card not showing up.
So..........
2 things.....
1) Can someone tell me the safe way to remove Cyanogenmod
&
2) Can someone please suggest a replacement that will fully work with the SM-N9005 please?
Many thanks for you help so far.

USB access to files on phone

Hey guys,
I have an issue with my Moto X Pure edition, 32 GB XT1575. Nothing wrong with the phone, I adore this phone because with the unlocked bootloader and root, this phone is a dream. No decent roms for it, I was really hoping for a sweet CyanogenMod rom but no joy. Does not matter, with Xposed, Nova Launcher Pro, and root, I get all I want.
The issue is file access, especially large files that I need or want to copy from phone to PC or USB drive. I installed the Motorola Device Manager which gave me the drivers I need to access the phone and run adb and fastboot commands. The problem is, when I want to remove a TWRP backup which are pretty darned big folders, approximately 11 GB in size, I cannot just "Plug in a USB cable, tap PTP mode, and then copy or move files in either direction, for either internal or external sd cards. The moment I copy and try to paste, or drag and drop, both Windows Explorer windows disappear. Poof, gone! I am now on Windows 10 Pro x64 but prior to the MS upgrade, I had the very same issues with Windows 7 Ultimate x64 so it is not the operating system of the PC. Developer mode is enabled. I will show you some pictures in PTP mode.

I just don't get it. Ever since Lollipop and then this phone and Marshmallow, I cannot use USB to quickly transfer files at all. I can use a WiFi file manger and try to use that to copy the folder over to the PC, but at a whopping 11 GB, the operation estimates a 1.5 hour transfer time and it never finishes. I can grab big files like this by shutting down the phone, removing the sd card and using a card reader to make file transfers quick and painless. But that is a pain in itself, shutting down the phone, finding the small tool to open the card drawer, being careful not to lose the SIM card, removing the sdcard for the card reader, and all this in reverse just to turn my phone on again.
There must be a better way or better drivers. Yes I have tried AirDroid and it works, but same deal, huge transfer over WiFi, takes forever and probably will not finish. How do you guys transfer large or numerous files to and from the Moto X Pure? Suggestions? Please?
EDIT:
Supposedly you can plug a USB drive into this phone for temporary storage. Now I have never done this since I do not have a USB cable that has a micro phone plug on one end. I just ordered a USB to USB adapter so I can connect my phone's data cord to a standard USB cable to connect to a portable USB drive. If that were to show up in /Settings/Sorage & USB/ then maybe I could copy the file with some sort of impressive speed to the external USB drive, then plug that into PC for offloading. Have not tried it, have any of you done this? It would probably be the ONLY way to get large files to/from the internal sdcard since it cannot be put in a card reader.
EDIT 2:
I turned off the USB Debugging and had no trouble transferring files at all. First I tried a file, internal card, no problem. Then a file ext card, no problem. Then since I was on a roll, one of the TWRP backup folders on the ext card. Poof, Explorer closed. Maybe too many files or too big in that folder? I tried to copy the TitaniumBackup folder over to PC which is chock full of files, lots of them. The transfer started while determining the time this transfer would take, then the transfer began.
Back to TWRP because those backups I want to copy off in the event I might need them, for a little while, anyway, rather than just delete them. This time I used EX file Explorer to zip up my earliest backup and the archiving as a zip file began. Since this is an 11 GB folder the estimated time was over an hour. I will let it run and create the zip, then see if I can transfer the zip file over. If it works, I have my answer. It seems there is something funny about the TWRP backup folders. The one on the internal card cannot be accessed by any means, including root, if Android is running. Boot to recovery and the internal card TWRP folder and files are totally accessible.
Looks like you found an answer to your original problem, but I wanted to comment that there are exceptional ROMs out there for the Moto X, but not all roms are on XDA. A search for dysfunctional roms might yield a hidden gem, rom wise. ????

Thank you!
I have heard of them, did research on some of them, and have friends with the exact same phone who have tried some of them. Mostly Mokee and maybe Dirty Unicorns. They have since reverted back to rooted stock with Nova Prime Launcher and Xposed, the setup I am using. I think the issue is that although these may be fine roms, in each situation, there was some aspect of the original phone or features that became not usable. I cannot give you details as it was some time ago. The stock setup works fine for me with root, launcher, and xposed. I see no improvement for USB file transfers and a new rom to achieve it, if you can at all. Even if it did improve the USB file transfer, an entire new rom to get there is a high price to pay, especially if the new rom could not power all of the features on the phone.
I do not want to argue about it, this is just my opinion based on the facts I could get. But I asked for some roms and you did deliver. Thank you very much! :good:

ROMs are easy... Always backup in TWRP before flashing, you can always restore. If you want to test some ROMs, remember to backup to external storage (SD card) as the biggest mistake is backing up to internal storage and then wiping it for the new ROM.
You lose 2 things in general, Moto Display... Ambient Display is a poor substitute, and battery life. Moto may do many things poorly but they know how to optimize a ROM to a device for optimal battery usage and custom ROMs struggle to get near the runtime of stock, although it's better than it used to be.
To be honest, I went back to stock too... Pure stock, no root or Xposed, but I still use Nova Launcher Prime.
I don't tell you that a 3rd party will fix your issue, in fact I doubt it will, but the cost isn't as high as you thing if it works. If it doesn't, restore to stock and move on.

Brand new UIS8762 qled 6gb 128gb 8core never started, and no support from Witson

Hi,
I've been googling and searching here and on Youtube for three weeks and I can't find any help.
My brand new head unit doesn't start, and has never started. The touch buttons don't work so after hours and days seaching the web I found out that I could at least get it to the boot logo by pushing a pin into the reset hole for 10 seconds, another short push and then a third push for 5 seconds, but that's about it.
Sometimes when I do that I get to a "no command" screen and then nothing.
When I contacted Witson who sold it to me, they sent me a file to install, but the problem is that the update stops (around 80-90%) and reboots before it's finished. After 3 restarts/reboots of the update it just goes black again. After sending several photos and videos to Witson of what's going on I asked for a refund and then they just stopped answering me. Nice, huh. (And I've followed their instructions to push the reset button when the boot logo appears - let it reboot - push the reset button when the boot logo appears - let it reboot - push the reset button when the boot logo appears.
So now I'm stuck here with a head unit that's never been used. Could there be a chance that they sent me the wrong update perhaps? I'm not used to head units but I've tried many things to solve it. I can't get into recovery mode, god knows I've tried for days with maaaany different tricks picked up on the web. I've even opened it up and tried to reset by short circuiting the special poles people say you should do. Nothing helps. I've tried to figure out what other brand sells these to find another file to install, and so far I've tried at least 10 different files, both USB contacts and three different USB FAT32 sticks, but no difference. Boot loop is the only thing this head unit is capable of.
If anyony could kindly assist me it would be extremely appreciated.
I'll try to post some pictures for you. I don't even know the proper name of this thing.
It's supposed to be a Witson DHG (W2-DHX1001) with Android 12, , but it seems to have many names. As I said, it's never started up properly and I've never played with a device like this before.
Many thanks!

This looks like a UIS 7862 FYT unit. DO the files they sent include a lsec6315update and a 6315_1.zip?
Normally, when the update fails you will get a message in red about the failure and the unit will reboot after 5 minutes or so, yours just reboots?
Anyway, if you got the unit from Aliexpress the safest thing would be to open a dispute with them.
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Thanks, I'm not by the computer right now but they sent me a 2,1gb zip-file with a zipped 6315 file name in it. (Does that make sense? ) Not sure if both those files was in that package, but one of them was.
I can't recall the exact name right now. But they just wrote that I should unzip the big file as is onto a USB stick and do as described earlier.
There was no red alert text when I used the file. Only reboot after reboot at around midnight 80% install. (One of the other files I downloaded later from the web showed that red failure text)
I did open a dispute and was reimbursed $160 of the $400 I spent in total. So here I am $240 down and a piece of glass.
Would be fantastic if someone has a file that fits this head unit or someone knows if there's a possibility that the main board or something else is broken.
Cheers
You definitely have a FYT unit.
There is plenty of info on this unit in this thread.

Ah, yes I recognize that thread. Been reading a lot in it but I couldn't make anything out of it in relation to my unit. I guess I have to give it another go and see if I can make anything out of it now when I know it's a FYT unit, thanks.
Short version:
Get a FAT32-formatted USB stick, good quality. Bad USBs may cause setup to abort.
Copy the firmware files (minimum: config.txt, 6315_1.zip, lsec6315update and updatecfg.txt) to the stick.
updatecfg.txt should contain
test
twipe_all
config.txt should look like
#test
#ro.fyt.launcher = com.android.launcher04
sys.fyt.bluetooth_type=1
persist.fyt.zh_frontview_enable=false
sys.fyt.ec_version=6
ro.fyt.splitscreen=0
persist.syu.camera360 = 1
# 0不带360 1带360
persist.lsec.pip_rect_clear=true
ro.sf.swrotation=90
persist.lsec.enable_a2dp=true
ro.lsec.btname=Bluetooth 2
persist.lsec.iphone_usb=true
carmark#0
persist.sys.navi.carmarkset=0
launcher name may be different, depends on firmware version.
Make sure 6315_1.zip and lsec6315 update are both dated either before or after July 2, 2022. You cannot mix on from before with another one from after.
You can get a suitable firmware from here. Look for the 7862/9" 10" line ( or 7862-9"-10"-360: if you have 360 view)
Insert the USB and start the unit. You may have to reset up to 5 times until it boots from the USB stick.
If you get an error message, post it here.
If you don't and it still aborts at 80% chances are you have a HW failure
Amazing, thank you for the detailed explanation. Well needed for a noob in this area.
I'll try it out when I get back on the computer later tonight. I guess the night sleep is canceled.
Thanks again, very impressive.
I'll get back to you as soon as I have any results.
I think that this file update he got is not for his device, it does not recognize hardware and stops in a middle of process of install.
Install other updates suitable for your model and year and see if error repeats again.

Hi Anton,
Thanks. It's what I suspected too. But it seems all the different files I've tried has behaved the same way so far. I'm trying this file that was recommended by @m00n61 here above. So far to reboots and same thing. Stops and reboots at the exact same spot. Switching USB and USB stick in a few minutes for continued trying.

Copy the firmware files (minimum: config.txt, 6315_1.zip, lsec6315update and updatecfg.txt) to the stick.
updatecfg.txt should contain
test
twipe_all
config.txt should look like
#test
#ro.fyt.launcher = com.android.launcher04
sys.fyt.bluetooth_type=1
persist.fyt.zh_frontview_enable=false
sys.fyt.ec_version=6
ro.fyt.splitscreen=0
persist.syu.camera360 = 1
# 0不带360 1带360
persist.lsec.pip_rect_clear=true
ro.sf.swrotation=90
persist.lsec.enable_a2dp=true
ro.lsec.btname=Bluetooth 2
persist.lsec.iphone_usb=true
carmark#0
persist.sys.navi.carmarkset=0
launcher name may be different, depends on firmware version.

Yes, unfortunately it looks like it's the same thing with the recommended files (7862/9). It reboots at the same point at the install and no error messages. I'm trying out the other USB input now and will then try yet another USB stick.
Thanks again.
So I tried to install both the whole file and only the necessary files @m00n61 mentioned earlier. And I tried this on both of the USB inputs and with three different USB sticks. All with the same outcome. the install stops exactly where I showed in the picture in the first post, and then reboots, restarts the install and it goes on like this three times until it just goes black.
Is there any other way that may help? I've read about connecting the head unit to a computer with a USBa-USBa cable and some sort of sofware.
Thanks for your input!

Yes, including flashing of ROM but it must be done with guidance and by a pro...
But it is last resort, let's try something else first.
Format SD card (if device has slot for it) in FAT 32 not exFAT with default allocation settings - not USB drive but SD card !
- if device has no SD card slot use any SD card reader if you have any and insert it then into USB slot with update files on it
- before unit boot try tapping with one finger on the middle of screen till see message DETECTED
- let the update begin
- if same error appears - press RESET button rapidly each time units starts for 5 times
- as soon as unit starts again tap the screen with all five fingers till recovery mode begins (message erasing will apear and begin to erase system files)
- when boots again into Android download a application named FILE MANAGER from Google Playstore
- go to app
- on the left side of app there is a menu - choose ROOT folder it looks like this "/.."
- there are system files that are hidden from users
- if unit is rooted you can go inside each of this folder
- if not rooted, delete the CACHE folder
- restart unit and try update again with SD card or USB drive
Fingers crossed !

Thank you so much! I'll try it out tonight! (it's morning here)
The unit has no card slot so I'll give it a go with a card reader.
I've read about the five finger tap (which didn't work on this one) but never the one finger tap. Looking forward to try out your suggestions!
Thanks!

Five tap is not working on every device, every device has different way.
You must find your way to get into recovery mode and get system to clear cache and junk files
Also, maybe you have residual update files left on main folders like factorysettings.bin log files mem.ini etc. delete those too !
BTW you can go into recovery mode if you can access Android and go from infotainment menu or from factory settings (accessed with PIN code)
Yes thank you, I've yet to figure out how to get into recovery mode. And I've never been able to start the device, so recovery mode seems like prio one so far, if I can't get any of the files to work via SD card etc.
Thanks!
