This worked for me on the second attempt. I am having some trouble not being able to make or receive calls but that may be a problem with the phone itself according to this: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/825538?tstart=0
It's hard to find a root for 5.0 lolipop without downgrading to kitkat.
Is there a way to root lolipop without downgrading?

I took the OTA to Lollipop, now I would like to go back to Kitkat in order to gain root. Not sure if there is a procedure to use or maybe cant be done. Any help or a guide to follow
would be appreciated. Am not sure how to proceed, so thought I would ask before I get into something I cant get out of.

Could you please link me to it. I've been searching all day
Simple question, I've searched for 3 days and all I see is "use towelroot" which is no longer available.
So is it just impossible to root a 3 month old Verizon Galaxy S5?
Thank you and I appreciate this site greatly.
Good evening.
As of right now, if you are on Lollipop, then yes it is impossible to root the G900V. Hopefully, soon we will find a way to root it again.
Pardon my ignorance, but is it not possible to flash back to a previous version of Android, root it, and then install the new kernel?
Edit: nevermind, reading comprehension fail. Towelroot is no longer available?

Just follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...l/how-to-update-to-g900vvru1boa8-5-0-t3020546
But it seems as though you are already unrooted on oa8, so if you are then you want to first follow the part at the end of the post where it says "If you do not already have root access..."

Did you even use Google?
Maybe try something like "Root I9515 Lollipop"??
The first result tells you how. Cf auto root.

No. You can search it for yourself. I even gave you the instructions what to type. This is not a helpdesk for you to be lazy.

I tried that too but I'm only receiving things about the I9505. And if I've found one result about rooting the I9515, I only see posts telling how to root on an earlier version. So I'd like to know what site you saw about rooting the I9515 running on Android 5.0.1 as you said.
Thank you.
Read his post carefully. When he did that search, what was the first result he said popped up? Search for that.

I've got a result called rooting I9505 running kitkat 4 . Something
And when you read that link what does it tell you to do?
cf autoroot doesn't work properly on Lollipop. You will have the following issues:
1. you will notice that Android will update only 1 app on startup after the wipe
2. This is the severe one: If you wipe your cache anytime after you've rooted your phone, you will softbrick ist. No single app will work, you won't make it to the home screen.
Some guy tried it here: Android Lollipop 5.0.1 Rom with ROOT
I recommend one of the following methods:
Install this CWM 12.1 for i9515, it works quite fine: [ROM][CM12.1][UNOFFICIAL][2015-09-18] CM12.1… | Samsung Galaxy S 4 i9500, i9505, i9505G, i9506 | XDA Forums
Root is preinstalled.
OR, and this will be a pain in the ass: Wipe your phone, Install Kitkat, root it, and update to Lollipop via FlashFire. I myself did this according to THIS instructions, although I don't speak Spanish i managed to do it. It's actually pretty easy. Google Translate will help you out with critical info.
That must be an I9515-specific problem. If you're having issues, let Chainfire know, as CF-Autoroot works perfectly on all the other devices.
I have a Verizon S5 (SM-G900V) currently on 6.0.1, Baseband version G900VVRU2DPJ2. Build number MMB29M.G900VVRU2DPJ2.
Looking for instructions on how to downgrade to 5.0 on this phone without bricking it.
If this is possible, please provide instructions or a good URL to do so.
Thanks
I think all you need to do is Odin stock PB1.
Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
Yep, just got done. Worked like a charm.
Also, I am thinking about root and custom rom to get rid of the bloat....but I don't want to brick it.
Looks like i will follow these instructions....http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/guide-painiacs-essential-guide-to-t3319848

I have a GS5 with the same baseband version and build number. Were you able to root or load custom ROM?

So, to follow up on this, I downgraded to PB1 and was able to achieve root using instructions I found in the forum. Turns out I have the Toshiba version of the phone, so I'm unable to unlock the bootloader and can't upgrade to MM without losing root.
Still, the information in the forum is very helpful. Just takes some reading and patience,
Is there any possible way to root the Verizon Galaxy S5 running marshmallow? I've done tons of research looking for a method to obtain root, but it seems my variant doesn't have anything going for it. My phone is g900vvru2dpg2, and Android 6.0.1. I'm getting rather irritated with TouchWiz, I miss being able to change anything on my old Galaxy S3. Also please excuse me if I'm in the wrong section, I'm brand new to posting on this site.
Hi, bro. There is no method to root MM S5. But you can downgrade to Lollipop 5.0.1 and root it with Kingroot
Install this app from the market and look at the CID.
If it's 15xx... then the answer is "YES", there's a way to have a rooted Verizon Galaxy S5 running marshmallow.
If it's 11xx... then the answer is "NO", only LP.

Thanks, I've successfully downgraded but the root method provided didn't work for me. Now that I'm on lollipop I think it'll be easier to find support.

I had issues during the root process also. What I ended up doing was, after you click on the first bat file, the device sticks at the white screen. Go ahead & do the root process now. The device does NOT have to be booted into the OS for this to root. In fact that's the only way it works. I was able to get mine rooted using the method I linked above.
EDIT: If the root process hangs Close the bat, unplug phone pull battery and reboot phone to recovery (VolUp+Pwr+Home). In recovery wipe cache only and reboot. If phone reboots back to recovery instead, pull battery and manually reboot. Now plug phone back in and Launch Bat #3.
When the above happens you do NOT want to do a battery pull, just go on with the root process.

Thanks man. I forgot to update this thread, but I did eventually obtain root using the method after about the 3rd or 4th attempt. I guess I just missed steps each try. I am now on Lineage 14.1 with unlocked bootloader and TWRP
G900v downgraded to pb1 rooted and unlckd
Just got done with my g900v...easy step by step instructions thanks to everybody who contributed....try this https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...ewbies-guide-to-install-pb1-rom-root-t3481826

Well, it's simple.
You need to have MM ROM, unlocked bootloader and TWRP recovery.
If the ROM isn't rooted yet you can simply download SuperSU zip from chainfire.eu and flash it via TWRP.
Bootloader unlocking guide is here.
MM ROM is here or any other you like.
