[Q] Searching for Vanilla Rom with touchwohiz elements - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I am currently considering buying a Note 4, watched and read reviews and I really like the big quad HD amoled screen, the camera, and the spen. But what I don't like is the software. The note version of ThouchWhiz sure has a few cool functions like multi window but I hate the design of the settings menu and status bar. And, of course Samsungs update speed is not the best. I currently own a Nexus 4 and I'd like to have a similar experience (Vanilla Android) on the Note 4, but with spen and fingerprint functionality similar to TouchWhiz. So here's my question: Is there a custom rom with similar functions or would I have to stick with TouchWhiz?
Thanks in advance

For the 910f, there's a cm12 rom available to flash but it loses some of the touchwiz functionality. You can't use multiwindow on cm12 and the spen works but it doesn't have most of the features from touchwiz. If you want these features then you have to stick with touchwiz I'd say cm12 is definitely worth a flash though and see if you like it
Edit: The fingerprint scanner doesn't work on cm12 and the 910f hasn't received official lollipop yet but the 910c has. I love my note 4 though and I even like the touchwiz that comes with it Highly recommended :good:

Discussion: TouchWiz 4.1.2 vs. Android 4.3

Hello.
I'm in the mood for some discussion. Currently waging which rom to install on my note, TouchWiz or latest android (4.3). How would you people rate a 4.1.2 rom built on correct sources against the latest version of Android? Performance, battery and user friendly wise.
Bring it on!
/pemell
This is the original Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) forum.
Jeez, just realised that. Was looking my ass off to find my thread
Actually, I own a N7000 device too so why not let it stay, I'll just change the op a little.
Built on correct sources? Grmpf... They (Samsung) don't provide proper sourced, but if they did, I would prefer an aftermarket firmware version of Android 4.3 with correct sources over a Gingerbread UI built Touchwiz rom... Or even a Galaxy Note Google Edition would suite my Note well
but... how is an aosp 4.3 in comparison with TW 4.1.2? i searched a lot but i dont find any comments about the batterie or the overal performance... and what about the spen? is there a note taking app in aosp?
Touchjeez sux!
I'd rather trust my nethers to a lunatic with a Burdizzo than have TW on my Note.
it is so simple
if you are looking for speed , stability and up-to-date go with aosp or cm
if you you want s-pen stuff and more useless stuff like smart stay the tw will be your target
P.s : i bought the note just for the spen feature so i think i will stick with TW for a while

AA1973, chasmodo, you're still here in the n7000 section. Even if I never knew you by person or chatted with you on this forum It was heart touching seeing your replies in this thread.
I'm on SlimBean v.8 stable currently on my N7105 and jellybeer on my N7000. I'm thinking of switching to TW on my N7105 to get the best out of the battery. My knowledge says TW has better battery life. I might be wrong.
A deal breaker for me is that I had my current theme chooser theme ported for touchwiz.
I don't use SPen in a daily basis but now and then when I have to annotate picture, my Note shines. Once I had to go buy handbag for my lady and there were two dozen at the store neatly decorated. I snapped, numbered them from 1 to 20 using SPen and sent picture through Whatsapp.
If one buys Note to put ROM that doesn't support SPen, then I don't understand why they buy Note at all?

You don't need to understand. Of course, the SPen does work. Not identically as on a Touchdizz Rom, but you're able to draw 1-20 on pictures, fore sure
Papyrus, Jotter, Gnote, Memo Beta, Skitch are some apps as alternative to S-Not.

but chief you are going to miss a lot of features like gestures and s-note and i did not find a decent alternate to s-note yet
I only got the Note for its Hardware so i can stick an AOSP inside in it.
I dont use Stylus. Never wanted to.
4.1.2 vs 4.3 is Light years a head Maybe more than a year when you can think of an update if they are even planning to provide one.
You never know Samsung can surprise us

The most important gestures *for me* are integrated in CM, AOSPA, slimbean etc: Left, right, up and down swipe as well as long press and double tap.
Actions to be chosen are back, home, menu, recent apps or you choose a specific app to be launched. That's enough for me.
No, personally, I think I do not miss S-note and I definitely do not miss Touchwiz
The infamous screenshot feature via S-Pen or the hand can easily be replaced
The SPen wasn't the killer feature and reason I bought the Note. It was nice to have, but not a must have for me. The main reason at that moment of time was the screen size and some other hardware specs. But this is way OT for a 4.12 vs 4.3 discussion
I was thinking of buying a new phone because touchwiz was so slow now and I thought that was the norm of phones used for more than a year.
As last desperation I installed asylum 4.3 and I just saved myself a whack of money because finally this phone is usable again.

Show me one AOSP/CM ROM that is as stable and battery friendly as TouchWiz... right, there is none. Still, like we men tend to do stupid things like ducktaping us to the ceiling, we throw away stock stable experience for flashing madness )
My favorite TouchWiz-ROM: Live Note 5.2 (well its just stock)
Favorite AOSP-ROMs: Utackas Paranoid android (fairly stable overall), FSC ROM (awesome customizations)

[Q] Galaxy Note 4 Custom rom without TouchWiz

I'm wondering if there ever be a Galaxy Note 4 without the touchwiz. I really like Note 4 spec, but ii can't stand the touchwiz.
You can use a different launcher without flashing a new rom.

remember if you flash another rom u will lose special s-pen functionality
and Note without S-pen means ... idk what does it mean!
so if u don't like touch-wiz u can install launcher :good:
Nova is perfect launcher for me
TouchWiz will always touchwiz.

I actually tried Nova and Google Launcher. It is still TouchWiz underneath. Actually i can careless of the S-Pen. I like the note line cause of the screen and the spec. LOL...Maybe i give it a try with the Note 4 since it will come with the new TouchWiz. Hopefully they optimize it.
So, if we install Nova, TW is still there, and we do not lose any of the Note 4 TW functionality?
Correct if you run a 3rd party launcher TW is still running in the background but not an issue in terms of the perceived lag crap people claim. Different launchers offer different benefits and you can use custom icons to make your phone pop. You will retain all of the Notes S-Pen functions and anything else TW offers under the skin.

What I would lose not using Touchwiz UI?

(never used touchwiz before)
Maybe S-Pen menu won't appear?
What about multiple windows on a single screen?
etc.
How deeply touchwiz was integrated in Note 3 case?
If you change your launcher - all TW funcionality: multiwindow, s-pen will work too I recommend google now launcher. Simple and fast

I use Nova now and I'm happy. But my phone is Nexus and I don't loose any phone's functionality with Nova, because Nexus phone doesn't have any.
Thanks for answer.

I have a nexus 5 and note 3. Touchwiz is necessary for all major advertised features such as the multiwindow, spen window, ultra power saving mode etc. So yes without touchwiz you are losing a fundamental part of the phone. however, in my instance I run touchwiz and aosp roms on my note 3. I have duplicated many features that is touchwiz based on a stock android rom. It takes multiple apps and doesn't work exactly the same but does overall the same things. With the note 4 there are many more features in the Spen so you will be taking a bigger hit switching from touchwiz to stock android.
Edit: Also, the stock touchwiz camera is lost and A LOT of its features such as 4k video recording. and it seems the quality on the touchwiz cam is better than google or aosp camera. There are some close alternatives for the camera however.
Well... that pretty much answers my question.
Thanks.
Touchwiz for me then.

You will loose the lag also.
Lose.
Hi,
I used TW for a few days and now switched to Nova.
Really can't find anything that doesn't work compared to TW.
Both sidebars (nav keys and app shortcuts) work, stylus menu works.
Anybody noticed any Note (3 or 4) features that doesn't work with a non stock launcher?
Thanks!!

care to elaborate
The topic is about using a custom launcher on the stock Note 4 ROM.
So all the features you mentioned (mukti window, spen, ultrapower saving etc) works perfectly fine with Nova launcher.

Gotcha. I misunderstood your first post. When you referred to the "touchwiz ui" and how deeply touchwiz was integrated, I assumed you meant if you were to flash an aosp rom instead of a custom launcher :good:

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lollipop has features than stock Lollipop?

Sorry if the title is slightly misleading, but when I was watching an overview on what Android Lollipop will look like on the Nexus 6 for example, I really liked the idea of multi accounts and pinning apps.
So far, I've not found any of that. I've found that they don't support those kind of features full stop.
Does anyone have any idea if these features will be implemented into the Note 3? Or am I just being silly and not finding those features? XD
And if there's an app that lets you pin an app (lock it) then could you recommend it to me?

spen "TouchWiz only" features

hello, sorry for the sarcastic title I found a device surfing the web an infinite nite 5 stylus which seems to have Implemented similar features of spen TouchWiz in their system and was thinking a if it's possible to Port them to our beloved note 3.
https://youtu.be/qErKRdYrIF0
the features are not entirely listed inthis video but shows what I'm saying.
thanks

This definitely ain't gonna happen, but I'm still curious, what exactly is the point of porting similar features ?
