[Q] IPTV? - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have read about a number of different solutions to achieve a live tv feel to the television when using an android set top box. What is the experiences of the people who own a nexus player or a android set top box when it comes to live tv? I would like to be able to turn my tv and nexus player or android set top box on and see live tv streaming whether its in combination with an additional device, hdhomerun, tune n view, another ip tv service, some way to accomplish hdmi pass through? The box has been out for quite some time now and I am surprised that there is no clear solution to this problem(#firstworldproblem lol) . Any suggestions and or input would be appreciated. I bought and returned the nexus player and would like to give it a shot again.
Thanks in advance

TV streamed to phone?

Hey folks so I am trying to do something that I am not entirely sure I can do. I will try my best to explain it clearly and I hope one of you may be able to direct me in the right direction as I am having little luck on google.
Basically I have IPTV through my phone company. I have the option for a second box and am looking for a way to stream that feed through my computer. From my computer I would like encode the feed into a mobile feesable compression and feed it to my phone through.
Is anyone aware of anything like this that will work or something capable of doing this??
If someone even knows of a service provider that works directly with TV feeds over the internet for mobile I would be even happy with something like that. But of course ideally it would be better to be able to use my own services that I already pay for.
On a last note. My cell phone provider DOES offer tv for mobile but NOT for pdas. LOL and the TV service itself is lousy.
I think the solution is on this web-site orb.com
I'm using it successfuly all the time.
Thanks I am gonna check out that software whenI get home.
On further research while here at work. I came across the Slingbox media option. I was curious if anyone has tried this for there home system yet? The website states that it can be connected to your satellite or digital cable boxes but I have to admit I am confused with the interaction of the two. Mainly the remote control portion.
If you have a Sling box which is acting like a "tv" but actually defering that signal to a remote location like a laptop or phone how does this box change the channel if it's just receiving signal? Does the slingbox itself act like a uber remote control and has to be placed directly infront of the digital box to act like a remote to relay the information back to the remote device?
I apologize if this seems on the border of being off topic but the goal is to stream live TV to my PDA which I suspect one of you techy people may have tryed such a solution!
I have used the Slingbox mobile player extensively with my Mogul over the Sprint EVDO network...I LOVE IT!!! Occasionally it's a memory hog and I may have to reset the phone...but all in all the Slingbox will do what you are asking about.
I have loaded and been running orb now for the past week and have to admit I am extremely happy with this application. It is fantastic so far and the intereface is great and easy to use!!
However after continuing research I will definetly be investing into a sling box as I have a second digital box collecting dust and would love to be able to channel surf lol!! Will just have to run both I suppose. Orb for movies and audio and Slingbox for tv surfing!!
Thank you for your input everyone!

The Sling hardware has an IR transmitter dongle, (or two), that you point at the decoder boxes IR reciever. The Sling client app, (both mobile and PC), have a software controller counterpart that can even actually looks like the remote control, (PC version). All IR functions work great from the mobile and the PC clients!
I love the slingbox and use it fine on my titan, although have had issues on other HTC Smartphones. It basically captures any video signal and sends it over the internet for remote viewing. whbell is right, it has a IR blaster that you put on the front of the device you want to control remotely and it sends your remote control codes to the box. You don't need a seperate set top box as long as the people at home are ok with watching whatever you are watching. I have mine hooked up to my pvr and can pull up all my recorded movies, or more importantly, setup a recording remotely if I forgot to do it at home.
Definitely a must have.

ORB is great for TV, just install a TV tuner / capture card in your PC. Sling box is okay for people without PC's, but if you already have one setup with ORB, there is no need for Sling box.
BTW, if you use Windows Media Center, you could also check out WebGuide.

Hdmi output does not work

Hi all, fortunately I have my motorola Atrix but I have a problem when playing videos by hdmi to TV, connect the phone and it started the implementation of video on TV but nothing comes out, it is as if not detected, know if I have to do something special on the phone to work this out??
Thanks and regards
Do you select the webtop or media setting once you plug it in? If so, and you aren't getting anything, then your unit might be defective.

hello I am Spanish and do not quite understand what I say, I connect my phone to the TV by HDMI and then open the rocketplayer by example and not play anything on TV.
I've seen people talking about playing with the entertaiment center hd but can not find how to start that application. I've seen that in managing applications is a size 0.0B, may be why?
Where I can get this application??
Thanks and regards.

When you plug in the HDMI cable, a pop-up should appear on the phone asking to start the HD Entertainment Center. That's the only way to get video-out onto the TV. If this isn't popping up and you haven't done anything to modify your phone software, then your device my have a problem.
ok thanks for the help, the only modification I've done is to make the root software, nothing else has that something to do?
I have only tested on a old TV, I'll try another to see if that is the problem, my TV is the first that came with hdmi at best can that be right?
Greetings
My Atrix had something wrong with it's HDMI, I had to return it and get a new one. When I plugged it in to a TV the phone would act properly (the pop-up menu would appear, and the controls would be present when the media center was selected) but I wouldn't see anything but snow on my TV. I also tried a HDMI computer monitor to the same effect. I lastly went to the ATT store and tried a dock, same problem.
Interesting to know that it was more than just mine.
Oh, mine was stock, not rooted yet.
-Tom
Hi all, ultimately the problem is not the phone, I tested a friend's TV and it works perfectly, when you connect me jump hd window center and all good, so I have a problem with my TV.
If someone happens just as well try it on another TV in case.
Thanks for the tips and greetings.

[Q] Preferred Wireless Display Adapter?

I recently upgraded my Nexus 7 and saw this in the "What's New" section:
Share what’s on your phone on the big screen.
Android 4.2 allows devices to enable wireless display. You can share movies, YouTube videos, and anything that’s on your screen on an HDTV. Just connect a wireless display adapter to any HDMI-enabled TV to mirror what’s on your screen quickly and easily.

I immediately went to Amazon and looked for different "wireless display adapters" per the announcement above, but I'm totally in the dark to which are going to be compatible with the Nexus 7. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Also, will I be able to connect to my Wi-Fi and still have an internet connection? I'm assuming I will be able to and it's more like they're all networked together (Computer, Display Adapter, Nexus 7, etc.), correct?
Lastly, I don't believe I noticed a new app on my phone to facilitate the connection once the Wireless Display Adapter is purchased and connected; am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for all of your help, you guys are the best!
Start with this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987695 Post 2 & beyond.
Thanks for the direction. Checked that thread out and found that Miracast is not compatible with N7, but is there any other hardware/software that would be?
For example:

The N7 currently does not support Miracast, and there is doubt it ever can since it does not support 802.11a.
ya gotta love it

I have scoured the internet for days and days trying to find the solution to not having hdmi capability and hopefully I'm on the right path. The wireless way sounds like it will be the only possibility so I was reading an article on engadget . Unfortunately I'm unable to post a link to it on here. But if you search nexus 7 WiFi media you will find the article I am referring to.
Any of you more intelligent people have any comments, sounds like a 100 dollar solution. Thanks

That's not screen mirroring. It's just DLNA/UPNP. And there are better and cheaper solutions. First look if your TV already supports DLNA/UPNP. If not, get yourself a raspberry pi and install raspbmc, openelec or any other distro that gives you XBMC. Then just enable it in the XBMC settings and get yourself a xbmc remote and a UPNP/DLNA app like bubbleupnp. That way you can even watch nearly any media you want on your big screen including avi(enable unsupportet mime types in bubbleupnp settings) and youtube videos(in the youtube app just press share and then share it via your xbmc remote).
But it is still no screen mirroring like miracast. I still have hope for miracast on the n7, since MIRACAST DOES NOT NEED 802.11a it is only optional for better performance in some situations.
And if that doesn't work, there is always the amazing open source community. Android Transporter just needs to be implemented into Cyanogenmod and given sound support and we don't need to wait for the big players to implement miracast on our n7.
Look at what asus has to say.

Control movie playback / remote control n10 with n7 ?

Currently watching a movie from Google play on n10 hooked up to TV with HDMI.
All good, perhaps some minor mini stutters but good.
So am sat with my n7 and wondering if I can pause skip the film etc from here remote styley?
I'd think it should be doable and or a handy feature.
Any way to use one nexus to control another?
Of course the n10 is like 2 metres away but we invented remote controls for TVs a while back...
BTW Ive got the film audio going out over bluetooth without issue and lipsync is good.

Doesn't exactly answer your question, but I believe Google gave out Nexus 7's to use as remote controls for Google TV

Android Mini PC for TV: I really dont know which one

Hi,
I thought to buy a Smart TV of Panasonic...but then i thougt best thing to do is to go for a "standard TV" + Android stick/device that turn it into a Smart TV.
My needs:
* Stream from my Desktop: If i have some movie - that i will be able to watch it on my TV.
* Use Internet & downlod directly from TV.
* NO crashes while using the basic needs.
* Use App's from Play store.
* That i will be able to install XBMC.
What are the top 2-3 models in up to 50-60$ +- USD?
Looking to buy some good Entry-Mid level product.
Read some about:
Rockchip RK3188
MK808 Rockchip RK3066
MK809 Rockchip RK3066
MINIX X7
Sorry for not digging too mach(I did searched), as i have a really bad concentration problem.
Thank you very much!
P.S: i have a Chromecast.
Never used it at all...but i gues it not the same, am i right?

I have Minix x7 and i think that the best decision is to buy smart tv devices only with RK3188 or 3066. i'll explain, you see that nowadays there are a lot of android tv-boxex, sticks which allow you to have a well realized function of smart tv - but if you also have this device with rk3188 in it's basis - you can even use special android apps. This apps give you an opportunity to control all the menu of your tv box or stick just with the help of you smartphone or tablet and s a simple and due to there is no need to buy additional expensive management tools.
Hi,
Thanks for the good answer!
If i understand - the TV box give a lot more the the smart tv or these sticks.
The question if it allow me to use Internet from a PC that NOT connected directly to TV?
Bc's i read that it actualy a REAL STREAMER ... allow to watch movies - which make me gues it stream it from the PC.
Am i right?
So i get also smart TV & internet that comfi to use & Streamer?
Do you think that something smelling bad in item?
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MINI...TV-Box-Bluetooth-XBMC-2G-16GB/2032407501.html
That is so nice.
Well if I may... I bring this matter up again, as I also am looking for some good rk3188 device and cannot decide which specific one?!!
My need is to have good wifi reception (though router is on same room) and to play at least 720p smoothly both for streaming from internet (via xbmc) or from another device of mine (android or pc).
I m not for gaming so I dont need any cpu-monster, instead i would prefer to be super portable, like a dongle, to have it with me always!
