Hi, all.
Getting into mountain biking and don't want to bust my cell phone, so looking for something that has gps to track speed, distance, etc., while not too heavy on the wallet.
Suggestions? Looked up one ebay and came across this thing:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-S...939?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e915454d3
Also have some used Lg G watches for around the same price.
Thanks!

So far, the sony smartwatch 3 is the only android wear smartwatch which has gps. It's great!
Notice in the ad none of the people are actually wearing it. That is a tip off that they are stock photographs and that the product is probably massive. The battery capacity also leads me to believe it is a monster.
Best bet is Sony sw 3. Love mine and GPS functionality is great!

Hi,
I confirm that there is no GPS in G Watch.
For sw3, do you know how long you can use GPS?
I guess it reduces battery life, but can we track path during 2 hours or more?

I've heard anywhere between 5-6 hours. Which sounds about right because when I go running for an hour or so, it goes down about 20%. This is with Bluetooth headphones connected listening to music as well.

I'll probably be getting a Sony Smartwatch, it has some cool features and should save us some time. But I still don't know, haven't decided. I have some questions that once answered should clear up my mind a little bit though.
1. What's about the Smartwatch's compatibility with N4/JB 4.2? None of the Sony's smartphone has ever tasted official 4.2 and that somehow makes me worry.
2. Will the N4's battery drain quickly because of bluetooth on and connecting to the watch? I know the N4 hasn't got the best battery out there and if using it with the Smartwatch is gonna suck all the juice in several hours then the convenience's not worth the trouble of recharging multiple times a day.
I would really appreciate any help

This may or may not be any help but I currently have a Galaxy S3 on JB with a smartwatch and had no real issues, sometimes the connection between the devices drops out but not enough to be annoying.
The battery life seems almost unaffected as well, there may well be a slight decrease but not enough to warrant concern. Hope that helps.
I'm buying one today I'll report back

Nice, in Amazon Germany now cost 17€ (22$ aprox.), I think it's a good prize and I want to take advantage of that offer.
Waiting for that feedback.
I've been curious about this as well. I was just looking at the Sony smartwatches on ebay last night and you can get a pretty good deal there. After reading some reviews, the connection dropping between the watch and device seems to be pretty universal regardless of the phone you use. Could it be a cheap bluetooth adapter in the watch? I would assume that Sony doesn't have much selection of adapters to use considering how small the watch is. It's also worth noting that I was reading about a poor connection between the (proprietary) charging adapter, and that it makes a better connection with the watch removed from the strap. That could become an annoyance for some people. A minor detail, but an annoyance none-the-less.
The Pebble smartwatch looks fairly promising too, so it might be worthwhile to hold off until it's released. Just some food for thought.

So I can affirm that after a couple days of nonstop use my Bluetooth connection has stayed strong and not dropped once. Everything seems to work perfect and extremely snappy (instantaneous) and I'm very happy. The only thing I have found is that if u try to change the default stock weather app location its has a connection issue. From what I have read though its due to the most recent firmware update a week or so ago. But that's fixable and I'm sure Sony is well aware of the problem. Overall I'm very happy and would recommend these to anyone looking for this type of product (toy).

How did you get it to pair? I've owned the Sony Smartwatch for a while. It worked flawlessly with my Galaxy Note, but it REFUSES to see my Nexus 4. Could you provide detailed pairing instructions, please? The Sony website is useless, as they still have the very old instructions utilizing apps that do not even exist anymore. Thank you ahead of time.

it is queit simply. Turn off your smartwatch. Enable Bluetooth in your N4 and make your self visible. Turn on and hold Power button befor you will see sync icon. Than you should see a new device in N4 like smartwatch. Just pair it and that's all.
Stumbled upon this thread while browsing the forums and I have to say, I haven't even thought of getting a Smartwatch until seeing this thread. After doing 15 minutes of research, I really want to pull the trigger on one on Amazon and get it before my big vacation later this week (thank goodness for Prime). I have a few questions though.
Basically, compatibility. I see there are a few posts in this thread saying it works and everything. Anyone else have any issues? I'm using Paranoid Android and the Franco kernel, anyone have issues while using them?
This is probably a stupid question, but how exactly does it notify you? Does the watch have a vibration option or a ringtone or anything? I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't notify you, because your phone would be ringing so you would hear your phone and look at the watch.
What's the functionality of it in terms of text messages? Does it just say you have a text message and who it's from, or does it show part of the message or the whole thing? I assume it doesn't let you text back on the watch, simply because a keyboard on that small of a screen seems very hard to implement.
Oh, one last thing. How is the Sony Smartwatch vs any other smartwatch? Is the Sony one the way to go, or are there better ones that people have found?
Any other info or observations anyone else has, I would be more than happy to read them. I am seriously considering buying it right now.
So now that Android 4.3 is out and we supposedly have BT 4 LE support, I'm wondering if anybody has found any good heart rate monitors that work with the Nexus 4. I looked at the Polar H7, but one reviewer has already indicated that it still doesn't work with the N4. So, anybody know of any good ones that do work?
There are already applications that do the trick and they don't have any need of 4.3
Just type heart rate at play store.

Having to hold your phone and keep a finger steadily on the camera isn't even close to being as useful or battery efficient as bluetooth connecting to something strapped to your arm.
Yeah I need something that monitors heart rate while I am cycling for several hours, running, or otherwise working out. Something compatible with strava or edmondo that isn't expensive as hell (the Polar H7 is the cheapest while being accurate - but it is reported incompatible with the N4.)
Try Runtastic Heart Rate. Its works really good!!! I been using it for along time. You dont need any extra accessories. Just put your finger on the flash light; it will do the rest.
FEATURES:
* Measure your pulse with the camera on your smartphone
* See your HRM results in a graph
* Variety of different, instant measurement types: resting HR, maximum HR, and HR before/after cardio
* Upload, store, and analyze your exercise results on the runtastic fitness site, www.runtastic.com
* Share your HRM results via your social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and E-mail
Ugh...what's the best way to explain to several people that you don't want to hold your finger on your phone for several hours while you ride your bike?
While being fantastic the new Bluetooth standard is also very buggy and a battery hog, so using one for a few hours along side another athletic assistant app would result in either a dead battery or a dead network board due to the heat.
Although rudimentary the light method is very accurate and easy to use, just use benchmarks and stop to take it rather the stream of data you are looking for.
Your best bet is to get a real heart rate monitor that saves to SD so you can compile at home, trying to get an accessory for a phone will only cost you twice as much for half as much efficiency.

So I discovered a manufacturer in China that has started manufacturing a smart-watch that is plainly put a clone of the pebble. I just received today my production sample and am testing it. It's based on the EFM32 Cortex-M micro-controller. Bluetooth 4.0 BLE. The screen is Sharp Memory LCD. Battery 270 mAh , they claim battery life is over 10 days. Firmware is based on FreeRTOS and looks very similar to that on the Pebble. Watch has the same 4 buttons layout and the exact magnetic charger. Water resistance is rated IP 67. Tested it by tacking a bath. Even has the same issue with an easily scratch-able screen . Comes with 4 watch faces.

Pretty hard not to recommend for 58 bucks. I found that on my Note 2 it sometimes looses Bluetooth connection after a few hours but doesn't seem to have this issue on the P6. The companion app for Android is just version 1.0 and has just been released last month so I am hopping there will be updates to solve this.
Manufacturer sent me an updated companion app that seems to have fixed the connection issues. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_0tZLvAcbvCR1pZcWw0OHdxcWQxQUt2bUFJczNRSXdtV3A0/edit
They claim to provide updates at least once a month.

can you use apps from the pebble apps store?
does this work as a stand alone watch? I.e. when its not connected to a device.
No you can't use the Pebble app's and yes it does work like a standalone watch , you can even completely shut down Bluetooth. Till now I'm quite impressed with the little guy. I'm now used to being able to see all my notifications on it and to control the music player. Pedometer is also kinda cool and the data syncs to the phone app.
same spec as the pebble

I have a Sony smartwatch an thinking about picking up a fitness band. Looking at the Garmin vivosmart because of its touch screen yet slim profile. Also does notifications. But main reason because android wear sucks at fitness stats. But I can't help but feel having both is a bit redundant. Anyone out there using both? Together? Separately for different occasions?

While the 920XT was functional, i couldn't find anything it did that justified the price over the SW3. While its not a great program, Google Fit keeps track of steps, and the aforementioned programs track and record fitness activities just great (Ghostrunner can export to Runkeeper or Strava). Perhaps you are in need to the really serious stats that the Garmin RUN-HRM, but then i would point you to the 920XT, and not the Smart...

It's not running activity that my Sony SW fails to take care of, it's the daily day to day fitness aspects such as steps taken, distance, inactivity, etc. And it's not a direct reflection on the Sony. It's android wear and it's terrible implementation of fitness tracking. The sony just actually benefits for running/biking because of the gps. But I wish it did the things I mentioned a second ago. It does steps but can't trust it at all.
For what its worth (again, having had the Garmin and going to the Sony), the Sony does no worse than the Garmin in terms of step accuracy (as in, its not). My 920 would count any bump (driving was particularly bad). Between google fit and runkeeper i get my same total information i did using garmin connect, so it works. But certainly, YMMV.
I'm using a Moto 360 and a Fitbit. The Fitbit is nice because you can use it to connect to MyFitnessPal to update and compensate for how much working out you've done. Currently Moto 360 has to be linked with the Jawbone UP app, which kinda blows.
I use a vivosmart to compliment my wear watch. In the end I didn't think the integration with my health ecosystem worked well enough and I am a heavy Garmin user as I am a keen cyclist

I had bought that and returned as I thought it was redundant having two things that displayed notifications. But now I'm tempted to get it again. Just sick of android wear an its lack of fitness tracking. I was going to get the fitbit flex because its the most minimal at $100 but than the vivosmart is just as minimal an actually shows you your info. So I don't know what to do.

Yeah, that's no fun. Good news on the rest though. How is the cell signal? That was my big concern with the Axon 7. Actually my current motoXP gets pretty mediocre reception and GPS signal losses too. I heard battery life was just epic. One reviewer got 11 hours of SOT!! I'll be happy if I can even manage half of that with one given the heavy navigation I use daily.

Nice to hear that you enjoy your new device!
As the specs and the price are really astonishing, I am also thinking about ordering it. For me only one question is left open: does the Le Pro 3 really have a NFC chip (like stated in the specs)?
Could you maybe just shortly try to install any NFC reader app (like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nxp.taginfolite) and test if it works? (I am a developer working with NFC, so missing NFC would be a deal-breaker for me.)
Many thanks in advance!

Thanks to both of you!
@sytayeth: using the Taginfo app you just installed you can try to read any NFC capable smartcards (for example: tap'n'pay banking cards, or wireless access cards, etc.). Just take any NFC card and hold it to the back of your phone while the app is opened. Also if you have 2 NFC capable Android phones you can send the content displayed on one device to the other, just by holding them close to each other (back to back).
"NFC" stands for near field communication and is a wireless standard for small distances, usually only a few centimeters.
Btw, is there anywhere any ROM for this phone available for download? I would like to unpack it and check which NFC drivers it uses (to find out which NFC chipset they use).
[update]
I already found 2 download links to two different ROMs here on XDA (and looked into them):
Chinese/English Stock ROM
A shop ROM apparently packed by grossoshop.net (according to the link-URL and the included bootscreen)
