[Tutorial] Root Your Vivo Air - Blu Vivo Air

Hello everyone,
// READ THIS BEFORE PROCEEDING \\
Attention all:
With being successful on getting the Vivo Air rooted, there comes a time were we forget we have root, in this case, I did. Now read this very carefully...
DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TAKE AN OTA WHILE ROOTED!!!!!!! You WILL HAVE A BRICK IN YOUR HANDS!
So those who just stroll by in XDA, please understand that you need to unroot before taking any ota. I bricked my device and had to buy a new one, plus there is no way to recover from a brick at this time.
You have been warned!!
// END OF IMPORTANT NOTE \\
You may continue after you have read ^^^^
With some unsuccessful attempts of rooting this device, I have done some reading on getting this bad boy rooted.
I need to throw I'm here a small disclaimer. I, myself, bit the bullet in attempting this. You are solely responsible for what you do to your device. If you are uncomfortable with attempting this, please steer away.
I haven't broken into a system dump yet or been able to get the blocks yet for fastboot if you encounter a issue. I cannot help you with restoring the device if something fails. You have been warned. If you would like to continue, please keep reading
I have tried several different rooting methods:
-framaroot
-towel root
-king root
-RootGenius
-SRS Root
These are all the methods that DID NOT WORK!
With that in mind, I was chatting in another thread with @abhishekr700 , he had a good point in the direction of getting the Vivo Air Rooted. He does not own this device but he mentioned we have a MediaTek chipset. I checked out some specs and it turns out our MTK chipset is MTK6592. MediaTek Root Tools does, in fact, support our exact chipset.
@abhishekr700 suggested MediaTek Tools for a possible achievement in root.
Well, we have a small break through on getting the Vivo Air some development now.
After the small fill in and proper credit, I attempted root by using MediaTek Root Tools.
Let's just say, it's extremely easy. However, getting ADB working for the phone was a bit tedious without a proper driver or a nice direction. I had to do some studying on this.
Turns out we need to use the generic Google ADB driver.
The moment you plug in your device, it should recognize the phone and phone only, Windows was able to achieve a driver for the phone. So after fussing with trying to get ADB working I was livid and figured I should try a few other things.
I completely removed all drivers associated with the Vivo Air which was just the one.
After all that talk, let's get down to business. Sorry about that little section as well
First and foremost, let's get some pre-reqs ready and have a backup route setup.
A) Download MediaTek Root Tools located here:
androiddevs.net/root-tool-mediatek-phones/
-1) scroll down to the "Procedure" section and download the PDA NET DRIVERS.
-2) also download the GRAPHICAL AUTO ROOT TOOL (This is the root tool we will use).
B) Please go to developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html and download this Google USB Driver. (We may need this later, if and only if your pc doesn't recognize ADB is enabled from your phone).
Now with that out of the way as well, let's move on.
Next...
1- install PDANet and select all the general stuff for the phone. Once you get to the part about enabling ADB, click skip.
2- on your device, please go to Settings>All Settings>About Phone and tap rapidly on "Build Number" till it says "You've enabled Developer Mode"
Now back out to the settings menu again. Tap on Developer Options. Turn this on with the little slider in the right hand corner. Following that, check on USB Debugging.
3- plug in your phone.
4- let the drivers install now, give it a few minutes. Depending on your version, the Vivo Air does not have an icon in the Status Bar displaying Debugging is active. So pay close attention to the pop up bar that you receive at the bottom of the phone. Turn on Interim.
5- now extract the root tool and launch the .exe file.
You'll see some Chinese thing. Just tap the button in the middle, and you should see it starts. It will give you a progress loading circle and will reboot your phone to the recovery the Vivo Air comes stock with.
6- if successful, when the phone reboots, look for a app called KingUser. This is to confirm you have root
Download BusyBox and install the binaries just to be safe and bam successful root!!!
I will fill this spot in with more about how the pc may need to manually install the ADB driver. In just a few.
Other than that, you should be good to go!
Thanks to The developer of the Graphical root tool and @abhishekr700 for suggesting that I should go this route.
If someone runs into the ADB issue please notify me if I have not updated the thread with the new information!
Thanks for dropping by and enjoy your rooted Vivo Air
This is the first step.

Umrooting can be done from inside supersu app

Tried this last night and could not get adb to recognize the phone. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried this method and the pdanet app didn't recognized my phone also tried to
Replace the drivers and didn't work!

I presume there is no way to root the phone without a PC (I have a Mac), correct?

Well after fighting to get adb working for about an hour and a half it finally worked. In the end I just kept rebooting the phone and my pc and it finally worked. I intalled super su and removed the king user. Thanks OP. Great find.

Oh man. You had to fight through that? Dang. I was afraid of that. So essentially, we would have to force install the adb driver. I'll add it in to. I will help you guys on that one.

@abhishekr700 is correct, if you fire up KingUser you can actually unroot from the app itself. See attached photo.
You would just click on settings gear and then select remove root permission.

At this current moment in time, you are correct. I couldn't find a MediaTek tool for mac. You could try to do it via a Virtual Box. Or maybe dual boot a small partition of windows on your mac. That's totally up to you, however, those would only be the options right now.

Hey jjvalor59,
For the adb not being recognized, please follow these steps located here: http://visualgdb.com/tutorials/android/usbdebug/manualinstall.php
In the 1st post, please download the google driver if you haven't already.
Skip to step 5 and start from there. With the generic drivers already installed, once you open device manager, there should be one unrecognized driver classified as Unknown with the name of "Blu Vivo Air Phone".
The steps following #5 will explain how to forcefully install the adb driver. After successfully doing so, please reboot your PC and plug in your device again and you should have interim checked on your phone fe the pop up. This should now allow you to run the root process

[Q] Atrix Won't Root? *HELP*

Hey guys,
So my brother recently purchased a Bell Motorola Atrix. I have been trying to root it for him in order to install the hack where you can access the WebTop environment via a normal HDMI cable.
I tried SuperOneClick, and it says rooting successful (even after it does the test to determine if the device is rooted) and SuperUser does appear in the applications list. I also tried UniversalAndroot, also to no avail.
However, any applications that require root claim that the device is not rooted.
Are there any other ways of rooting this device? Or am I just doing something wrong? (keep in mind I have rooted several other devices with SuperOneClick, and those have all been successful)
Please help,
Thanks,
DS1495
look for "adeo" in the dev forum. try that

DONT DO THIS.
He has a Bell Atrix.
I had to toggle debug on and off a few times before it would move past waiting for device.
Make sure you have the mkro drivers installed. Also the phone should be in phone portal mode, I believe.
Good luck

I don't think it matters what it's set as, but I believe most devs recommend none.

Thanks guys, aRoot worked wonderfully! First try!
I have tried the aRoot on the Atrix I just bought yesterday from Bell (I am now a bell customer :-( ) but it doesn't work. I must be missing something. I double click the script, it runs through all the steps, even says, rebooting at the bottom, but it does nothing. I press any key to continue, and nothing.
any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks,
AZ
Figured it out, turns out it wasn't recognizing the adb driver.

Help a noob install a rom on Epic 4g so I can tether with my over priced phone?

So I got the Froyo update and it killed my ability to tether and root.
Seriously, Im even having trouble with WIRED tethering. Its not working and wont root.
Please point me in the direction of some noob friendly step by step instructions for installing a custom rom that is tethering friendly, along with any info for simply getting wired or wireless tethering to work after the Froyo update?
You shouldn't have installed the update.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
Yeah I know. Is there nothing I can do now?
They say they can bring you back to 2.1 if you take it to the shop. Does the update do anything that prevents installing ROMs? When they bring you back to 2.1, will that fix whatever they did or is it in that version now too?
Why can't you root?
Because I accepted the update and the update killed root and tethering for me? I guess there was a way to upgrade without accepting that update.
z4root wont work, and also it says that the OS no longer has the drivers to support the free wireless tethering apps.
......Did you read the OP?
So how am I supposed to root if I cant even use clockwork to install new roms without root access? Am I totally ****ed? Should I just return this phone and get one from Verizon?
Yes I read the OP but the 2.2.1 update doesn't prevent rooting again. If it did, I wouldn't be rooted right now.
I'm not sure what you did or didn't do, but the one click method works.
hes never been one clicked. he only used z4root.

z4root is hokey. you need to use the oneclick root. its really simple.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
use this thred. it is for real root, not z4. also, the drivers are installed on your computer, not your phone.

Thank you for something helpful finally.
That makes sense. I tried installing it on my phone. Thank you for noticing that.
You know, if you wrote these instructions for noobs it would really help....For example, when we are dealing with not 1 but 2 devices, it might be helpful to describe which device is doing what. One minute I am doing something with the phone and the next its just "install this"....Dumb it down a bit, like you are talking to people who dont know anything about anything.
Anyway, thanks. Im going to try this now.

Don't feel too bad. I had to read that stuff several times before even deciding whether I should try it.
It keeps saying phone is not connected, even though it says USB-storage is enabled and I can access the files on my phone.
Don't click on mass storage.....and turn on usb debugging

The NON-One click solution seems doable but complicated, and I dont really know what I am doing.
Im thinking about paying somebody to root the phone properly. One person advertised in the SF Bay Area that I know of.

Cool.
Thanks for the support. Im going to try this at least for another day or so before giving up.
OK. Now it says rage against the cage is missing.
The file is clearly there, but VLC media player wants to open it instead of anything useful.
do you use any sort of anti virus? it will remove things from the ragagainstthecage exploit. disable you antivirus for a few minutes and redownload the the rootpackage. im not saying thats what the problem is, im just saying antivirus clashes with the root method.
A little effort goes a long way. Getting root is easy for the epic. Install the samsung drivers, turn on usb debuging on phone, extract the oneclick folder and run the "run.bat" file and let it do its thing.

I had that problem also and it turned out that I was trying to run it from a networked drive. I had to unzip the file to my computer desktop then run the program from there before it worked properly.

"So, I have finally updated my SHIELD rooting method to support Tegra Note 7 as well, so you guys don't need to install weird programs on your PCs:
https://github.com/linux-shield/shield-root
Rooting by itself is quite easy, you need to have adb and fastboot on your system then:
1) Enable USB debugging in the developer options and plug your TN7
2) Download https://github.com/linux-shield/shie...7.img?raw=true
3) In a shell, issue "adb reboot-bootloader"
4) In the same shell, go into the directory containing root_tn7.img and run "fastboot boot root_tn7.img".
Rooting will take ~15 seconds and the tablet will reboot. You should then have SuperSU installed and working.
Note that these are not exactly the instructions mentioned on the README file of my Github repository. That's because TN7's bootloader is not interactive as SHIELD's for the moment, I hope this will be fixed.". All thanks to Gnurou
4.2 Chinese root method
METHOD 2
______________________________________________________
Ok so for starters the tegra note does come with an unlocked boot loader so that a big plus. To root I followed these steps..
"There is another method to root the tegra note easily if you know chinese......
You may download the software called Jin Shan Mobile Assistant at the site below:
google it --> (zs.ijinshan.com)
EDIT: HERE IS A DIRECT LINK TO DOWNLOAD THE ROOT TOOL
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2Sc2UBbSHchb1pBUGpPN2N1Sm8/edit?usp=sharing
click and download the PC ver. setup file at right handside.(wrote 支持设备:安装win8/Win7/Vista/XP系统)
After installation, plug in your tegra note via USB. Press the ROOT大師 at the bottom left corner.
It will checked your device model as P1640. Then press "確定". It will simply root your device immediately.
:good::good::good:"
Thanks to hotsuma2000
Once I was rooted using the method above I installed Supersu from market and it replaced the superuser from the above method.. I then removed all apps that were installed from using the Chinese root.
STEPS
__________________________________________
The .exe file to download is about 30mb.
Once you download the file run it using Windows.
Open the program after installation.
Make sure USB debugging is checked on your device. (FYI to get developer options go to settings about tablet and press on build number until a message pops up saying you have Dev options.)
Plug the tegra note into your PC and the program should then recognize your device at which point you will see the root option.
Click root and magic...
The root program will install it's own version of superuser but don't worry I will get to that.
Once rooted go to Google play and download Supersu by chain fire then open it. You should then be prompted to install.. It will say another superuser app is detected and ask to replace..
There you have it feel free to ask away anything on your mind
If I was a help to anybody please throw me a thanks

Where's the info? Please post the solution you found. I've been digging through forum after forum and have tried 3 or 4 "one-click" root tools. So far nothing has worked. I really want to use Titanium Backup on this device.
UPDATE I finally got root on my Tegra NOTE 7!!! The process was a bit haphazard and inept but after enough tinkering I was able to get it done! Since the method is a bit involved I would recommend waiting for an easier solution. Think I will wait for recovery as I want to try the exellent xposed framework on the note.

2. Install it on your computer (you can remove it later)
3. Open the installed program
4. Connect the phone to the computer
5. Go in settings and in developer options and then enable USB debugging
6. Click on ROOT!
7. The phone will now reboot, ROOTED! You are welcome! Please thanks if it helped!
Alternative method(10% more difficult). The only problem is that this is chinese language, so you have to click the exact buttons I tell you.
1. Download this file: http://goo.gl/U6Jwaf
2. Install the software, using the installation buttons as you would on any other windows installation.
3. When you have installed it, you will see a green button, press it. Then connect your phone on USB debugging mode.
4. When the phone is connected the software will recognise the phone and the green button will show "ROOT", click on it.
5. The phone is going to be rooted in some seconds and the process is finished when it will show a tick on the software.
6. The phone will reboot.
7. When it is rebooted, go to google play and download super su.
8. Open super su and it will ask you to update the binaries, and you must click on update, and then normal.
9. A window in chinese will pop up on the phone, this is the screen that allows you to give root permissions to any app. You must click the button on the right.
10. You are done! Root process is complete!
11. This is the most important step. Leave a thanks! If you liked the tutorial, please show it to me!

1. Download this file: [MOD EDIT: Against XDA rules to use PPC links like ad.fly]

3. Open the installed program
4. Connect the phone to the computer
5. Go in settings and in developer options and then enable USB debugging
6. Click on ROOT!
7. The phone will now reboot, ROOTED! You are welcome! Please thanks if it helped!

Can we root 4.3 rom with this method
Sent from my C6602 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Kingo isn't able to root 4.3 as of now, but all the older ones yes. Try the second method.
To go back to 4.2, please use this:
https://app.box.com/s/pnqhi5o9tqg1fv7uxunf
Contains the instructions to go back.
Or use this tool by trusted developer bin4ry that will root the same firmware versions (.67 and older) and doesn't need an internet connection to root your device - Root many Android

No, unless Bin4ry removed them from the tool since I last used it (unlikely).
Even if you did, it's preferable to use it over Kingo/Vroot that both send hardware IDs to China as part of the process. Security and transparency should not be sacrificed for ease of use.
Before you give me the usual line that Kingo doesn't collect anything, I suggest you look on their official Facebook page. They admit they collect various data from your device. Look at the images they posted on 7th November 2013, where they state that they collect hardware IDs and serial numbers.
Also, they were caught modifying open source software for their tool and only admitted that once caught.
Anyway, their tool is nothing but a collection of other people's work passed off as their own and nobody on a development site such as this should be recommending use of software created by bottom feeders like that.

Yes i believe you. I still posted both methods so people can chose the one they want, and if they want to root it, hey, it's there and it's easy. Personally, I used the second one (which is even more risky than kingo since it's chinese) and nothing happenes to my phone, and I did that back in september 2013.
So for now everyone is safe!

Did you try the second method?
The second method will 100% not work either.
There is currently no way to root 4.3 directly without unlocking the bootloader.

Ah ok sorry then, you will have to unlock the bootloader first!
Perhaps change the thread title to reflect that only 4.2.2 and older is rootable by these methods.

[How To] Downgrade to 4.5.3 so you can root device

Step by step instructional video
Help setting up adb for windows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyJlmTtLsIg
If you are already running Fire OS 4.5.3 and below, all you need to do is follow this video to root: https://youtu.be/KcQ30qcImJc
Steps:
1. Install the Fire OS 5.0 developer preview. EDIT: Do not do this. If you already have a lollypop ROM installed, use that instead of installing dev preview (You could cause a brick)
2. Enable ADB on your device and set up ADB on your computer
3. Download 4.5.3 firmware: https://kindle-fire-updates.s3.amazonaws.com/update-kindle-20.4.5.3_user_453011120.bin (Mirror coming soon. This download works for the Fire HD7 and HD6)
4. connect device to computer and run "adb reboot recovery"
5. use volume keys and power button to navigate to "Apply update from ADB"
6. from computer type "adb sideload update-kindle-20.4.5.3_user_453011120.bin"
7. from tablet select "wipe data/factory reset"
8. from tablet select "reboot system"
9. Complete setup (do not connect to a wifi network yet)
10. Download KingRoot: http://www.kingroot.net/
11. Download JmzFireHDTool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fir...ool-jmz-fire-hd-7-tool-gapps-disable-t3113655
12. install both apps. "adb install KingRoot-4.1.0.249-release-nolog-201505211812_105001.apk" and "adb install JmzFireHDTool_v4.apk"
13. Temporarily disable otaverify via adb "adb shell pm block com.amazon.otaverifier" (spelled wrong in video)
14. Connect to wifi so that KingRoot can work
15. Open KingRoot on your device
16. press "try to root"
17. re-enable otaverifier "adb shell pm unblock com.amazon.otaverifier" (spelled wrong in video)
18. Open JMZ Fire Tools and press "Disable OTA's"
Note: If you ever need to upgrade back to lollypop, you should follow these steps so you do not brick device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/tools-fire-hd-67-rooting-gapps-t3371242/page4
Awesome find !!! Here is a direct link to the 5.2.0 update file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/lolipop-ota-capture-t3141810
After the downgrade, install TWRP, and upgrade to 4.5.4 but this time with root and fully working GAPPS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/root-v2-0-fireos-4-5-4-gapps-t3150613
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/how-to-upgrade-to-4-5-4-twrp-root-t3141648
This way one goes directly to SuperSu, and a clean device with no traces of KingRoot.

ah yes good idea. I'm hoping someone with ROM development knowledge will start a build. We've got just about everything setup so that a custom ROM can run

The tricky part is that the unlocked bootloader still needs a signed kernel. Which is pretty constraining. It'd be interesting to replace the boot preloader, but the risks are high.
Upon boot (if connected to PC), the system flashes MT65xx pre-loader. Which seems to indicate that one could start looking into programs such as "Smart Phone Flash Tool" and "MTK Droid Tools" for MTK chipsets.
Another hope is that the 5.0 version would be sufficiently buggy, such that the bootloader can be made to boot unsigned kernels.

Hashcode has gotten around this issue multiple times with something called a bootstrap but I'm not too sure how it works

Btw, any chance you could post the direct link to 5.0 preview (for non-developers), since it's probably behind some registration page or something ...
i just signed in with my amazon account, you will need to unroot your fire and reset it as 5.0 is a OTA.

I wish I could find that bin file link... I looked for it but could not find a link to the actual bin file.. If ota's download to the sdcard then It could still be accessed but I don't know where it downloads to. If it downloads to the data dir of the app it would be inaccesable since you need to be on the latest update in order to download the 5.0 version and on the latest version we have no root which means no access to data dir

It worked perfectly. Thanks
Despite really wanting root and the possibility of using my already paid for apps from the Play store, I really like the lollipop version of fire os. I do think it's a bit ridiculous they haven't retained the old kindle skin because it's exactly how every real android tablet looks but at this point they should be forced by law to let people use the Play store as they wish. Sort of like how Verizon was once forced to allow tethering without a subscription.

does adb devices list your device. Maybe try re-downloading the update in case of corruption

Perfect timing! Lost root last week and hoped for a way to get back. You the man
I wonder if there is a way to stop the update once it's downloaded, in order to grab the 5.0 update bin from /cache.
This would help to re-pack the update in a way that does not re-write key partitions, then one can have TWRP and root on 5.0
It does sound like 5.0 is a nice update, since it provides stock Android. That's what custom ROMs are usually for, but Amazon will give it away !

I was wondering the same. Seems like you could rename the otaverifier apk back to (plain) .apk and get the download but by keeping com...otaverifier blocked it wouldn't install. I'm just not sure these developer updates are handled like any other.
