Symlink failed. - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all XDA members.
I have a problem with my note 3 n9005. When I try to install new soft it says:
-symlink:some symlinks failed.
I can`t do nothing to repair this. I tried to change recovery (CWM,TWRP and Philz Touch) but it doesn`t help. Next I installed 2 files through Odin and it was:
-BL_N9005XXUGBNL8.tar
-CP_N9005XXUGBNL8.tar
Nothing changed. I can say i`m coming from leaked lolipop installed through Odin and there is no problem. Only rom which i Can install is liqoudsmooth.
Can you help me? I don`t have any more ideas what can I do...
Thank you for you replies!

[Q] "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue ....."

Hi there ... yes I've done something wrong and would like to try to fix it without going to Vodafail to get them to berate me.
I was trying to install PhilZ Touch recovery but was having trouble with Odin (1.85, and 3.07 I was trying) and finally gave up and just wanted to make a normal boot but the dreaded firmware message has come up.
I've had a quick search & read and it seems that I need to flash (with Odin) a new stock ROM.
It's getting late here so I'm not going to try anything more without a lot of advice and reading.
So any suggestions please?
I'm in Australia with Vodafone, phone is about two or three months old. i9505.
Cam you get into download mode? Turn it off then press home, power and volume down at the same time, if you can download a stock firmware for your device this can be found at Sam mobile. Then flash it with Odin. Always use the latest version.

Hi,
Stock firmwares are HERE
Try ODIN 3.04 as well
Thanks guys, I'm downloading http://www.hotfile.com/dl/227186782/ebf4c32/I9505XXUBMEA_I9505XSABME4_XSA.zip.html now and will try it when it's finished.
And yes the phone will go into download mode okay.
I also had a think about it last night and I'm not against putting a different ROM into it, any suggestions?
Okay trying to flash that rom with Odin failed.
Where do I go from here please? Like I mentioned, I'm more than happy to try a custom rom.
Hmmmm just tried flashing CWM recovery ..... that failed as well.
Help!!
Know its probably a stupid question but did you root the phone before trying to install Phillz recovery?
If not, try CF-Autoroot, then try Phillz recovery. If you can't get these flashed you may have corrupted your partition table. Here's a link to the PIT file you need - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477 (Make sure you get the right one or you can say bye bye to your toy- I believe you should have an I9505)
Read this, then go and try again....
Cheers.... :good:

Yep I flashed CF-Autoroot a couple of months ago without too many problems, I'll try it again.
Which version of Odin should be best to use?
Ah! Flashing the pit file thingy did it, THANKS!!!

No problem, just remember though that flashing the pit file is no small thing... If that stuffs up or you have a corrupt pit file you can actually hard brick your device... It really is the final step before giving it back to Samsung to fix...
Glad it all worked out and cheers....:good:
Yes I'll try to not need to do that again!

[Q] [HELP] S4 no Sound,no Calls, etc.

Sorry for my bad english!
I am form Austria and I need your help. Yesterday I flashed Omega Rom 13.2 and all worked fine (Flashed the Modem for the old Bootloader). After rebooting my phone I can not call anymore because the display turns black and the notification bar starts to blink ...
Also I can not play any music .
So i thought the Modem is wrong and flashed some for my country but that was useless.
Then I thought to go back to the BlackBox Rom (which has worked very well but after some time my display turns black and the led lights up but i cant use my phone and have to reboot it fter this all was fine) after flashing it worked but i also cant call or hear music.
I am not new at Flashing (Rooted and Flashed : Lg Optimus Speed/Galaxy S/Galaxy S2/Galaxy S3 and my new S4) but I do not know what to do.:crying:
Hope you can help my and I am also sorry that I have opened a new thread.

Hi, I'm from Italy,
yesterday I had the same problem after installing the new Omega rom 13.2 and the XXUEMJ5 modem. After many different attempts (flashing stock roms, modems, etc.) finally I solved the problem with this method:
- I flashed the italian stock rom "I9505XXUAMDM_I9505ITVAMDB_ITV" (you can find it in the Samfirmware website) selecting the file with Odin "PDA" button , adding to the configuration of Odin (3.07) a pit repartition file named "CSB_signed_Fusion3_EUR_0325_V2.pit" (attached).
- After this action, you have a stock firmware installed with no custom recovery and obviously with no root.
- Then I start the phone into stock recovery (Volume Up+Home+Power) and I select to erase all user data.
The phone, at the end, boot up, ..... with sound, wifi, and ....... everything WORKING !!!.
Now you have to root again the phone, ....... but it works... !!!!
I hope that this can be a solution also for you.

Yeah :/
I do not know why I got this new bootloader ... befor flashing Omega I had the BlackBox Rom which was very well.
O maaannn I want to use my S4 and not my S3 or LG ...
Does anybody know a solution ??
So you still have the old bootloader? And even with 4.2.2 custom roms your sound and wifi do not work?
If it were my device, I would pick a 4.2.2 stock Knox free rom. Put in the .pit file and set repartition to on. This way you will get a clean device again.
Only use that method is you are sure the flashing will succeed! If you fail, you're device is dead. So be carefull.
You first have to test if the flasing will succeed. You have to flash the stock rom first WITHOUT the .pit file and repartiton. If that goes well, then you can use the same stock rom and now with .pit an repartition.
So if you know what you are doing and you know that the Odin flash will succeed, then you could try it.
/edit, i see you have the knox bootloader. I think the same applies, only now with a 4.3 stock rom.
Solved it
:victory:
I solved my problem !!!
I am not at the old bootloader !!! I am on the new with a locked knox system ...
My Knox is flagged but my S4 works perfectly
The solution is that you have to flash a new rom !!! You can´t flash a Rom with the old opened bootloader
I ask myself why I do not thought about this ... Because the Lg has the same problem ^^
Hope everyone with the same problem can read this
Thank you for your help and if somebody needs help you can ask me

Hi, I'm having similar problems I have no sound at all coming from the device, I've read most threads that say no sound on the heading for I9505 and for many people flashing I9505XXUDMH8_I9505OXXDMHA_I9505XXUDMH8_HOME.tar resolved the problem but not in my case.
Last night I tried flashing I9505XXUEMI8_I9505OXAEMI8_I9505XXUEMI8 and after I changed the kernel I got some sound when turning the volume up and down but the phone was running very slow.
Today I tried flashing Omega rom v15 flashing the right modem for the new bootloader before flashing the zip and no sound, I tried changing the kernel, still nothing.
So now I'm in build number XXUEMJ9 and baseband MJ5.
I've also tried flashing stock with a pit file but didn't make a difference!
I don't really understand what you said about You can´t flash a Rom with the old opened bootloader!
I'm new to samsung, I've leaned to root and do all this with HTC and I do it with the cmd, now I'm using odin so need good explanations!

I had the same exact problem. Flashing CWM Recovery got me out of that nasty screen. You don't need to use the recovery - the mere act of installing it seems to have done the trick for me.
In the end I couldn't root but I am glad my phone works.

Andy Ibanez, I love you man! I thought i was in deep muck when i came across your solution. Thank you once again!
It sounds like you had a failed i.e. partial write and /or partition corruption.
Flashing a custom recovery is an expedient fix, but you may still have corrupt partitions that can cause you problems later. You should find the appropriate PIT (partition information) file to match your current firmware and flash that to assure a stable system.
Hey there
I had the same problem. The screen showed the ' firmware issue' message.
I used the odin 3.09 to flash the CF Root again and this time it worked properly.
i didn't loose any files and the root works perfectly

Hi,
I realise that this is a common problem and that the usual response is "go read"
Here's the short version:
Bought the phone secondhand ROM installed is some varient of 5.1.1 afaik, tried to back up the ROM before trying otrher ROMS, CWM didn't work - read some threads - tried TWRP which seems to be installed, got into a boot loop, read some more threads - tried to install glamour S6 from TWRP, nothing happened now getting "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing"
Absolutely no idea where to start - I've had android phones before and always successfully rooted and installed ROMS before.
If anyone could help I would be very grateful as I don't want to make it even worse.
TIA....

Yes, possibly...
However, what I did was try to back up the supplied ROM first.
So that I would be less likely to bugger it up
I'm not sure that it has the OEM ROM tbh.

Hi,
I don't think I can flash anything at the moment ?
All I'm getting is "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing" in a loop.
Not sure where or how to start
V+ & home & power does go to Team Win Recovery Project v2.8.7.0
Can I do anything useful from there ?

well, by flashing i meant downloading a frimware from sammobile or... and using odin to install the stock rom , dont let that "kernel not seandroid enforcing" get on you nerve that one doesnt really matter , only way to solve your prob is to install a stock frimware...
about the slow download speed try searching the latest frimware name on google and a direct link from another download site might probably come up...

Hi,
Thanks that's what I've been trying to do, downloaded 3 ROMs before you suggested that one. Finally worked out that unzipping them in windows was causing errors (reason unknown) switched to a different zip program and the ROMs are ok now. Still wouldn't install in Odin, switched to a different PC - same problem - bought a new quality USB lead and I've now installed the ROM suggested by you, I don't know whether the other ROMs would have installed as I didn't try with the new USB cable.
All the operations in Odin carried out successfully, I've now got a slightly different problem - when Odin finished, the phone booted:
"Samsung Galaxy Note 4" "powered by Android" then just SAMSUNG logo in the middle of the screen with some music - then back to the "Samsung Galaxy Note 4" "powered by Android"
I've had to take the battery out to stop the bootloop - I have looked for answers to this: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358554645
I'm a bit reluctant to randomly try fixes in case I make it worse ?
If anyone can help me out of the boot loop ?

Maybe the version that your phone was running was "coj5" Build of 5.1.1. this is the latest build of 5.1.1 and it basically locks down your phones bootloader you can't flash any old 5.1.1, 5.0.1 or 4.4.4 firmwares just go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N910C/PAK/ and download the top firmware which is coj5. flash it and it might take you out of the bootloop (do a factory reset first) it will lock your bootloader to run only 5.1.1 or newer builds but since you have already tried other roms i think its worth it atleast you will have a working phone. (don't worry about csc being PAK it does not have any additional bloat)
Just in case it's of any help to anyone in the future.....
The unzipping problem was down to unzipping inside windows - as soon as I used winrar, no more corrupt files.
The install from Odin problem was down to a knackered USB cable.
Many thanks to Captain Droid and everyone else.
I got out of the last bootloop by repeatedly wiping the caches, after about 3 wipes it booted and seems to be running ok...
I'm very pleased to have it working again
Is there's a safe/best way to try other ROMs or is it a case of best leave alone ?
Less bloatware would be nice - or is there a way to properly remove some of it ?
I have N910CXXU2COL2_N910COLB2COL1_THL installed atm
What's the best currently available custom ROM for the N910C ?
Do not be afraid to ask dumb questions; they are easier to handle than dumb mistakes
Is there any obvious reason why Rom Manager can't install a custom recovery with this Rom ?

Hi,
I've installed this and am grateful to have a working ROM. I thought that after installing this, I would be able to install other ROMs ?
I would like to back up EFS and the current install before trying to install another ROM, ROM Manager won't work, so I have tried to back up EFS from Philz Touch Recovery, that hasn't worked either. It couldn't write to SD1 but claimed to have written to the phone, but hadn't.
I've also tried to install Sixperience from Philz, without any success - another bootloop. I eventually managed to reinstall the THL ROM via Odin.
Is it possible to back up EFS from the THL ROM ?
Can I install sixperience from Odin ?
Is sixperience the best ROM to try ?
TIA.....

Hi,
I realise that this is a common problem and that the usual response is "go read"
TIA....
