[Q] [HELP] S4 no Sound,no Calls, etc. - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry for my bad english!
I am form Austria and I need your help. Yesterday I flashed Omega Rom 13.2 and all worked fine (Flashed the Modem for the old Bootloader). After rebooting my phone I can not call anymore because the display turns black and the notification bar starts to blink ...
Also I can not play any music .
So i thought the Modem is wrong and flashed some for my country but that was useless.
Then I thought to go back to the BlackBox Rom (which has worked very well but after some time my display turns black and the led lights up but i cant use my phone and have to reboot it fter this all was fine) after flashing it worked but i also cant call or hear music.
I am not new at Flashing (Rooted and Flashed : Lg Optimus Speed/Galaxy S/Galaxy S2/Galaxy S3 and my new S4) but I do not know what to do.:crying:
Hope you can help my and I am also sorry that I have opened a new thread.
Greetings; Chris

Hi, I'm from Italy,
yesterday I had the same problem after installing the new Omega rom 13.2 and the XXUEMJ5 modem. After many different attempts (flashing stock roms, modems, etc.) finally I solved the problem with this method:
- I flashed the italian stock rom "I9505XXUAMDM_I9505ITVAMDB_ITV" (you can find it in the Samfirmware website) selecting the file with Odin "PDA" button , adding to the configuration of Odin (3.07) a pit repartition file named "CSB_signed_Fusion3_EUR_0325_V2.pit" (attached).
- After this action, you have a stock firmware installed with no custom recovery and obviously with no root.
- Then I start the phone into stock recovery (Volume Up+Home+Power) and I select to erase all user data.
The phone, at the end, boot up, ..... with sound, wifi, and ....... everything WORKING !!!.
Now you have to root again the phone, ....... but it works... !!!!
I hope that this can be a solution also for you.

Not fixed

Hi Chris,
you wrote that you flash Omega Rom, so I supposed you are not on Knox.... like me.
This method was a solution for me but I had a free bootloader. I'm afraid .... Good luck !!!!

Yeah :/
I do not know why I got this new bootloader ... befor flashing Omega I had the BlackBox Rom which was very well.
O maaannn I want to use my S4 and not my S3 or LG ...
Does anybody know a solution ??

So you still have the old bootloader? And even with 4.2.2 custom roms your sound and wifi do not work?
If it were my device, I would pick a 4.2.2 stock Knox free rom. Put in the .pit file and set repartition to on. This way you will get a clean device again.
Only use that method is you are sure the flashing will succeed! If you fail, you're device is dead. So be carefull.
You first have to test if the flasing will succeed. You have to flash the stock rom first WITHOUT the .pit file and repartiton. If that goes well, then you can use the same stock rom and now with .pit an repartition.
So if you know what you are doing and you know that the Odin flash will succeed, then you could try it.
/edit, i see you have the knox bootloader. I think the same applies, only now with a 4.3 stock rom.

Solved it
:victory:
I solved my problem !!!
I am not at the old bootloader !!! I am on the new with a locked knox system ...
My Knox is flagged but my S4 works perfectly
The solution is that you have to flash a new rom !!! You can´t flash a Rom with the old opened bootloader
I ask myself why I do not thought about this ... Because the Lg has the same problem ^^
Hope everyone with the same problem can read this
Thank you for your help and if somebody needs help you can ask me

Hi, I'm having similar problems I have no sound at all coming from the device, I've read most threads that say no sound on the heading for I9505 and for many people flashing I9505XXUDMH8_I9505OXXDMHA_I9505XXUDMH8_HOME.tar resolved the problem but not in my case.
Last night I tried flashing I9505XXUEMI8_I9505OXAEMI8_I9505XXUEMI8 and after I changed the kernel I got some sound when turning the volume up and down but the phone was running very slow.
Today I tried flashing Omega rom v15 flashing the right modem for the new bootloader before flashing the zip and no sound, I tried changing the kernel, still nothing.
So now I'm in build number XXUEMJ9 and baseband MJ5.
I've also tried flashing stock with a pit file but didn't make a difference!
I don't really understand what you said about You can´t flash a Rom with the old opened bootloader!
I'm new to samsung, I've leaned to root and do all this with HTC and I do it with the cmd, now I'm using odin so need good explanations!

[Q] HELP - settings force close and no wifi

Someone must know the answer to these 2 questions, I've been searching for days and keep getting little issues, keep resolving them but then run into new issues.
My last 2 problems (I hope) are as follows.
1)
No wifi - here's the details of my modems etc:
AP: I9505XXUFNA5
CP: I9505XXUEMJ5
CSC: I9505OXAFNA5
I'm running WanamLite 2.0 (4.4.2 )
2)
When i go to 'Settings >> More >> Security' it FC's and says Unfortunately, Settings has stopped.
How do I fix these issues??
Thanks
wife fix
You can fix the wifi issue by updating your phone modem to NA5. Unfortunately I'm also stuck on that settings problem. Still haven't found a solution for that yet.

Suggest you flash original stock ROM, root, install recovery and then wipe cache/dalvik /data/system - then flash what ever ROM you like and start again. Careful what stock you choose unless you don't mind/already have new boot loader.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but if you have been stuck with these issues for days it may be the easiest quickest way to resolve
No need to boot up stock ROM, you can simply go straight back into down load mode and flash cf auto root/recovery then boot into recovery.

haha thanks man, i actually am having a different issue now although i have by coincidence, flashed back to that same wanam rom that i am unable to get into the security settings with and still has the same error.
I have still got these issues and havent really been able to use my S4 for about a month which is so frustrating...
heres my recent post:

Hey OP / kasperwo - did this work?? I'm having the same issues. Repulsa helped me before (thanks again) but then I went and flashed a different rom and the same problem came back. i think there was an underlying issue that basically was "covered by a bandaid" and which reappeared after flashing a new rom (CM11 i think)
so after all this i downloaded the stock german 4.4.2 leak, wifi stopped working, lost root access.
Then was able to flash Philz Touch recovery, re rooted using that, then flashed a different rom (wanamLite) and still no wifi etc
Last night it was reading:
AP: I9505XXUFNA5
CP: I9505XXUFNA5
CSC:I9505XXUFNA5
Its all the same now except
CP: I9505XXUFNB8
Any help is much appreciated

Suggest you go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025 and read and learn about modems, I suspect you may find the answers there.
What happens when you flash official 4.3 firmware?
You may be well to backup your SD card, then flash official firmware, before rooting go to stock recovery and wipe data from there. This will leave your phone brand new with only stock files on there, it will format EVERYTHING!
May be worth a go

Thanks for the tips, I actually did that last night with stock 4.4.2 firmware. Im going to try the 4.3 tonight as I suspect I may by some miracle, still have the old bootloader and is not tripped yet.
I just installed a foxhound rom - 3.6 and now wifi works (sound doesnt)

hmm - from what I have read on the thread about modems I sent you the link to (have you read it yet?) this is to do with having new modem on old bootloader - it breaks sound and/or wifi.
You need to get the right modem for your bootloader - 4.3 I think, but check the thread

Nope havent read the whole thread but very familiar with it. Is there any particular page I should look at? And how are we supposed to figure out what bootloader you have/which modem to flash? Thats what ive been trying to figure out this whole time

When you put your phone into download mode do you see red and yellow writing in the top left hand corner - if so you have new bout loader, if not old - that should help you work out which modem you need.
What happened when you flashed official 4.3 through Odin and wipe?

I didnt end up flashing the 4.3 - it got to 98% downloaded and then failed so I have to restart the DL and try again

OK - so you have no red and yellow small writing when you boot up that says something along the lines of non seandroid kernel?
EDIT: so it seems you are on old bootloader - if you have no knox references - which means that if you have flashed xxufna1 with non HLOS modem that would break stuff - like I said before, I think you really need to flash official 4.3 (which will give you the right modems) - test and see if it all works and then go from there
When you want to update modem then just update gsm modem - I use this one XXUFNB8

After that I did a ROM wipe in PhilzTouch and flashed Omega v16, booted up and YES FINALLY I have wifi, sound and everything is working...
BUT now im back in square 1 really, i originally wanted to flash something different because the battery life on Omega v16 isnt that great on my phone for whatever reason...
But hey at least I can use it now.

Glad you are all sorted - if you are looking for good battery life and performance (the holy grail lol) maybe try my set up as in the links in my signature. I would recommend not flashing modem to start with as what you have works for you now. I can whole heatedly recommend slim + alucard, I get 5 hours screen on time over 24 hours use with fantastic performance oh, and a load of awesome features with slim too

[Q] messed up good this time

hi all. need help
i've been playing with different roms for couple of years now on different phones and did not have any problems.
till now that is ....
i have installed Omega 21.1, but from time to time phone would lose gsm data connection so i decided to flash something else.
installed [ROM]KOT49H【4.4.2】AOSP official Google Edition and it was good.
for some, God knows what reason, wanted to try Omega19 (4.3). installed fine but sound was broken. when ever phone used any kind of sound it would start flashing or would freeze or something. Flasing any other rom did not help. and for some reason it does not let me change modem with odin.
Last modem i have installed is XXUEMJ5.
tried to do restore using [GUIDE] Unroot/Unbrick, Flash official stock firmware on Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 & I9505 but Odin would fail with Auth error
tried with Odin 3.47, and 3.07
now i still can install rom but stops in logo loop. tried both Omega and google edition.
pls help

Hi,
Once you have installed a TW 4.4.2 ROM , it installs the latest knox bootloader.
At that point , you cannot downgrade your firmware.
You said you installed [ROM]KOT49H【4.4.2】AOSP official Google Edition and it was good.
Your best bet is to re-install that.
As for the modem , there is a technique which you have to try:
Look HERE
That should help.
BTW , I edited your title
thx. will try that and report back.
nope, still stuck @ logo loop
not sure what more combination to test
tried Omega 21.1 with
Bootloader -> BL_I9505XXUFNA5_373648_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_C ERT.tar.md5 and
Modems -> CP_I9505XXUFNA5_373648_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_C ERT.tar.md5
but now it does not get to the logo. shows samsung logo and than screen goes blank.

Hi,
You said you tried the [ROM]KOT49H【4.4.2】AOSP official Google Edition ,and it worked .
So I figured to try and re-install that one.
The other thing you must do between flashing different ROMS is a full wipe (Cache and data)
yes. that was first thing i tested. at best i get the logo loop.
and yes, i do full data wipe before and after reinstallation of the new rom.
cache wipe only whe requested but in this case done that to.
is there a way to see a boot log or something to see where and why booting stops?

The best thing you can do is flash the entire 4.4.2 stock rom via odin. And start from scratch(Recovery/Custom rom) Since you already flashed the newestbootloader (from OMEGA file) .This mean your knox is now triggered and your warranty is now void 0x01.

Hi,
Perhaps you should try to find the latest test stock 4.4.2 firmware ( I9505XXUFNA1) and flash it in odin.
Wipe data and cache before and after flashing.
And then wait for the official update.
At least you should have a phone you can use.
following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
i've found that there is 4.3 stock image I9505XXUEMKF. downloaded it and tried to install but that did not work.
now this is a noob question but is there a speciffic bootloader, modem or something else i need to flash before flashing this image?
or should i search for 4.4.2 version?
thx
flashing stock 4.3 on current bootloader/modem combination gives me Fail from Odin and Sw. Rev. Check Fail error on the phone.

I believe malybru already answer that for you .Thread and Stop experimenting with your Phone because there's a chance that you might bricked your Device or end up with no IMEI.. and Your asking for help/Solution mate so follow their instruction . If not feel free to send your Phone to customer Service for repair.( and Be aware that your warranty is already voided unless your Country is part of EU so Rooting and Flashing don't void your warranty)

But if i break the glass on my phone and such then i dont have any warranty for that..and must pay them for a repair.

ah, my bad. for some reason i was reading 4.4.2 as 4.2.2
i did follow all other instructions, and i thank you all for them, but still not sure where to go from here.
i know i should stick to 4.4.2 firmware but need to check somehow if bootloader/modem combination that i've install is actually installed.

If you already flash the Bootloader from Omega then you can no longer downgrade to 4.3 stock , that's why your Getting Fail (Auth) in Odin Flash the 4.4.2 stock Leak rom for now then if you consider flashing a Custom Rom then ,flash the philz recovery 6.09.2 or TWRP (Dont forget to Nandroid backup EFS and such and then DO A CLEAN WIPE by Wiping cache, dalvik cache data and system) and From recovery flash any Custom rom you like. (no need to root your phone, Your phone will be rooted after flashing any custom rom . So goodluck

[Q] How to fix I9505; no sound, no mic, phone app not responding

Summary: my I9505 mic, earpiece and speaker don't seem to work and cause fc/not responding on functions that use them (phone), what should I do to resolve? (I have flashed a bunch of ROMs, and a couple modems...).
Detail:
Ok, so firstly I must apologise for not recalling the somewhat random sequence of events which has brought me to this juncture... I was fiddling around with a few different ROMs and when I noticed the problem I sort of frantically tried flashing things to fix it (yes, I'm aware this is a very sensible approach )
I've flashed a few different ROMs and at some point flashed a new modem.
I noticed yesterday that I was not getting any sounds out of my phone, noticed when using the volume buttons, no beep; further investigation revealed the speaker, earpiece and microphone seem to have decided to take an indefinite nap...
Any suggestions on how to proceed with waking them up?!
There is a message in the logcat:
getDeviceForStrategy() speaker device not found
Though not sure if this helps at all.
Making/receiving phonecalls the screen goes black and either rings out to voicemail before I can answer, then displays not responding wait/close error or the other person answers and neither side can hear then same not responding error.
I've not changed the bootloader (as far as I'm aware...).
Wifi/mobile internet work fine.
Tried flashing an old modem, factory resetting, reflashing a ROM (currently CM10.2) but no dice... since I'm a bit lost I figured stop fiddling and ask for help
Current baseband: I9505ZHUAME3
Current bootloader: I9505ZHUBMF4
Any suggestions on how to proceed to un-screw my phone would be greatly appreciated. :good:

Thanks for the reply; downloaded, flashed as CP seemed successful but still no joy, same no sound and unresponsive phone app
It says WiFi fix; WiFi is working, how would this fix the audio problem? (not being snarky, just curious as to the relation to the problem)

Flashing a wrong LTE/Wifi fix will loose your sound . in Old bootloader you can't flash any newer LTE modem than UBMH1.and for the New bootloader you can flash all the new LTE modems, including MKF etc.. So boot your phone into download mode and check if you have an entry of knox warranty void then you have newbootloader. and make sure you manually turn off your phone and wait atleast 10 sec and boot your phone into download mode and flash . (Because sometimes flashing a modem/lte doesnt work and need to do it twice.
Use Odin
Untick Autoreboot
Flash modem
Reboot once again into Download Mode using (Power+Voldown)
Flash Modem once more
Once done, unplug then reboot device manually.
If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with auto-reboot option turned off.

Im still in oldbootloader and i just download and flash a custom rom 4.4.2 via recovery .. and incase something wrong with my phone in a future . iE Hardware related.etc theni can just flash a 4.2.2 and send it for repair for free... and about newbootloader , flashing any custom rom/rooting will triggered your knox , so feel free to flash the latest stock 4.4.2 kitkat if you dont care about your Warranty. But like i said you can still flash a 4.4.2 custom rom without flashing a newbootloader (Never flash a newbootloader , Make sure to ask first before flashing anything) Have a nice day.
Edited: @mrlizard123 Never flash a latest Wifi fix so you wont get this problem again. only flash a GSM MODEM. if your flashing a custom 4.4.2 rom then you need to flash a latest GSM MODEM base from your country. in order to fix dropping signal issue when the phone went to sleep.

Yes , but i'm flashing original firmware because i don't want trip the Knox counter The message is displayed in oidn and on display , i can see also the failure message in download mode screen
That's fine. In that case, after you see that failure message, flash the Samsung stock recovery. I'm not sure how this would work with regards to the Knox counter. My phone is rooted.

Hi,
I realise that this is a common problem and that the usual response is "go read"
Here's the short version:
Bought the phone secondhand ROM installed is some varient of 5.1.1 afaik, tried to back up the ROM before trying otrher ROMS, CWM didn't work - read some threads - tried TWRP which seems to be installed, got into a boot loop, read some more threads - tried to install glamour S6 from TWRP, nothing happened now getting "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing"
Absolutely no idea where to start - I've had android phones before and always successfully rooted and installed ROMS before.
If anyone could help I would be very grateful as I don't want to make it even worse.
TIA....

Yes, possibly...
However, what I did was try to back up the supplied ROM first.
So that I would be less likely to bugger it up

Hi,
I don't think I can flash anything at the moment ?
All I'm getting is "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing" in a loop.
Not sure where or how to start

Can I do anything useful from there ?

well, by flashing i meant downloading a frimware from sammobile or... and using odin to install the stock rom , dont let that "kernel not seandroid enforcing" get on you nerve that one doesnt really matter , only way to solve your prob is to install a stock frimware...
about the slow download speed try searching the latest frimware name on google and a direct link from another download site might probably come up...

I guess the only solution for your problem is to download a stock version and flash using Odin. Then you can start trying other ROMs and so.

Hi,
Thanks that's what I've been trying to do, downloaded 3 ROMs before you suggested that one. Finally worked out that unzipping them in windows was causing errors (reason unknown) switched to a different zip program and the ROMs are ok now. Still wouldn't install in Odin, switched to a different PC - same problem - bought a new quality USB lead and I've now installed the ROM suggested by you, I don't know whether the other ROMs would have installed as I didn't try with the new USB cable.
All the operations in Odin carried out successfully, I've now got a slightly different problem - when Odin finished, the phone booted:
"Samsung Galaxy Note 4" "powered by Android" then just SAMSUNG logo in the middle of the screen with some music - then back to the "Samsung Galaxy Note 4" "powered by Android"
I've had to take the battery out to stop the bootloop - I have looked for answers to this: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358554645
I'm a bit reluctant to randomly try fixes in case I make it worse ?
If anyone can help me out of the boot loop ?

Maybe the version that your phone was running was "coj5" Build of 5.1.1. this is the latest build of 5.1.1 and it basically locks down your phones bootloader you can't flash any old 5.1.1, 5.0.1 or 4.4.4 firmwares just go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N910C/PAK/ and download the top firmware which is coj5. flash it and it might take you out of the bootloop (do a factory reset first) it will lock your bootloader to run only 5.1.1 or newer builds but since you have already tried other roms i think its worth it atleast you will have a working phone. (don't worry about csc being PAK it does not have any additional bloat)
Just in case it's of any help to anyone in the future.....
The unzipping problem was down to unzipping inside windows - as soon as I used winrar, no more corrupt files.
The install from Odin problem was down to a knackered USB cable.
Many thanks to Captain Droid and everyone else.
I got out of the last bootloop by repeatedly wiping the caches, after about 3 wipes it booted and seems to be running ok...
I'm very pleased to have it working again
Is there's a safe/best way to try other ROMs or is it a case of best leave alone ?
Less bloatware would be nice - or is there a way to properly remove some of it ?
I have N910CXXU2COL2_N910COLB2COL1_THL installed atm
What's the best currently available custom ROM for the N910C ?
Do not be afraid to ask dumb questions; they are easier to handle than dumb mistakes
Is there any obvious reason why Rom Manager can't install a custom recovery with this Rom ?

Hi,
I've installed this and am grateful to have a working ROM. I thought that after installing this, I would be able to install other ROMs ?
I would like to back up EFS and the current install before trying to install another ROM, ROM Manager won't work, so I have tried to back up EFS from Philz Touch Recovery, that hasn't worked either. It couldn't write to SD1 but claimed to have written to the phone, but hadn't.
I've also tried to install Sixperience from Philz, without any success - another bootloop. I eventually managed to reinstall the THL ROM via Odin.
Is it possible to back up EFS from the THL ROM ?
Can I install sixperience from Odin ?
Is sixperience the best ROM to try ?
TIA.....
