Hey there.
I'll be attempting in developing some general areas of the Vivo Air. I wanted to get a tally of what system versions everyone may be on. That way we can identify where root works and see if exploits get patched along the way.
Also I noticed that the moment I pulled mine out of the box it wanted to update for better touch improvement. So I would like to also see if we can get system dumps through ADB to pull those and get some of the system files into other Roms. Currently I'm on V06. Attempting any root method or flashing can harm, if not, brick the device. So if you do so in the process, please note that I am not responsible in this fashion. You take the upmost responsibility in what you do with the device. I will be taking the risks as well to see if we can achieve some wonderful goodies here.
If you have anything to post, please do so. I'm looking for basic device information to help further attempts in getting some developed.
Thank you, and have a wonderful time with this brilliant and awesome device.

Just got mine today and it's on V08.
V08 here as well
Also my date is 5-1-2015
Mine is V-06
What's the difference between V06 and V08?
Did a OTA come out for the device? Because I've been checking for an update since I got my ViVo and it says my phone is up to date
Just got a wireless update notification for v11

That I am unsure of. As our root is based on the actual chip set, to my knowledge. If update is taken, I am going to say I have no idea. I myself am going to take the update as soon as I'm home so I can charge to 50% and take it. And we shall see if we can sustain root. These updates are only 20-80mb. So I don't know if it'll impact us who are rooted, or those who haven't yet.

I know this is another GalaxyS device, but it seems that there really isnt any interest for it in the community. Does the ticker screen cause enough compatibility issues that we most likely wont see Cyanogen or anything for it? What about support from Samsung, are we likely to fall behind the curve for 2.2 release?
Iv had it for a few days and I love the formfactor, but Im considering swapping it for a fascinate for the modability. Any opinions?
There is currently no support from the developer community, but all it takes is one good dev and we'll be in business. There's really no way of knowing if 2.2 will lag behind, since no US Galaxy S phones have gotten the update yet... Only time will tell on both I'm afraid.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
Samsung has began releasing the 2.2 update in certain countries from what I've read. So it should only be a matter of time before the USA gets it. The update will come via Kies I believe (Samsung's update software for PC).
As for custom ROMs for the Continuum, I believe development may be slow for this phone due to the ticker display. The ticker makes it more difficult to develop for. However, I'm confident we'll get some custom ROMs at some point. I'd be really nice if Samsung skipped 2.2 and went straight to 2.3 but that'll never happen.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
One of the first things we are going to need is a custom recovery to be able to backup/restore the phone. I suspect this will take someone loaning their phone to koush in order to get clockwork recovery and rom manager support. I know I am leery to try anything without having a way to restore, even if I have to restore to default.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
Yeah a stock ROM would be excellent. There will be plenty of people who delete necessary apps with root access even before custom ROMs are available.
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
Well we're gonna need a custom recovery first, so that is one of the bigger issues.
Sent Koush a tweet asking what he would need and offered my phone for a period of time. I still have my D1 I can use.

Glad to see the Continuum Forum up and running! I know very little about development and such, but I'm open to testing out things. I'll be following the threads here as much as possible.
I was thrilled with the idea of this phone when it was released, but the limits on the ticker make it nearly unusable (no gmail? and Samsung's e-mail app is horrible).
I was thinking about returning it, but with the new found forum here on XDA, my hope is renewed.

I just got this 2.76.651.5 update OTA and so far it seems to have fixed the Sense UI reloading issue from the last OTA update. Here to hoping it's finally fixed.

I screwed myself by accepting the last OTA update. I'm certainly not accepting this one until know for sure it won't screw me further.
I'm personally not going to take that update atm. Still not happy with my current phone situation anyway... Had an Epic 4G but my fiancee wanted to upgrade from her dated Samsung Moment. So i looked around on Craigs and bought a Shift 4G. She didn't want the shift though, because she got so attached to her game-gripper on the Moment. So I gave her my Epic and took the Shift. Too bad it already had 2.3.3 on it =/
I'm just waiting on a new root exploit and I'm afraid to update anything on this sucker until then lol
I would never accept any OTA update. If root is ever discovered again and it requires the update you can always get it...can't really go back once you have it. On the other hand development for this phone is really slow and I believe root will only be found if it happens to be the same exploit as the newer phones so you may be without it for quite awhile and if the sms/mms issue affects you then you may want to take it. I know it is tempting but think about how it feels not having root just because you wanted the newest update.

Any proof, like picture?
Anyone who had previously been using the "leaked" VZW GB rom try to update to this official one? Any differences noted or anticipated? Is there any point instead of sticking to the "leaked" ROM?
Other than unrooting, will this update screw anything up?
If I'm rooted can I still get this ota update?
I bypassed the verizon activation a few days ago with the volume up and down method and I am currently using my tab on wifi only. Will I get the update? If I do get it, will I have to bypass it again? Will the same method work?

I'm over in the quail hollow area off Carmel. Funny. Small world. Anyway, I'm thinking of calling tech support and asking them about it.
Ask them if the update will screw up our rooted Tabs.
I'm sure it would as far as losing root, but they gave me the basic song and dance. Said it was staggered and may take a while for everyone to get it. Then he told me to go into the store and have it updated which isn't true. I work in the store and we have no way to update smartphones and tablets, only basic phones. It just seems strange that no one on this forum has received it. When I go back to work tomorrow I will check to see if it was pulled back or delayed for any reason.
Question, when it updates, does it just put an update.zip on the sd card? If so, then I will try to copy and post on here.
Edit: I have a sneaky suspicion that it was delayed for some reason. Check it out. It still says coming soon on the public page.

Yes, when the OTA update pop up shows up, that means you have an update.zip on the internal storage of your Tab. Use Root explorer or ES and navigate to /cache and you'll find the update.zip once you get the OTA notice. Then you can just upload that update.zip to any hosting site, and drop a link here for all to enjoy.
So before finding out about this I have already rooted with it and now all of the xda admins are advising not to use this. After a good bit of reading I guess this app has sent www.wmshua.com my imei. It uses their exploit and their patches and makes it seem like they made a root method. This is a deceptive app and I wish I would have never used it. The lest this app developer could have done was change the layout of the program and download all the patches and hosted them himself. Not I fear some conglomerate in China has my imei and will use it at a later date to do a worldwide hack or something. I understand there is no going back so I'll just uninstall the app and hope nothing bad comes from this....

I think that post was before it was questioned that Kingo could contain malware.

Yea it was. Someone needs to dissect the program, see what info is collected, what is downloaded, and what's transfered to the phone and all that dissected. I don't have hardly any knowledge on how to do this but I'm about to attempt this. I wish I had a whole day and a couple adderall I could dedicate to digging into this.
I'm in no special hurry to root my 9005, so I can happily wait for the next version. Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable than I can take that *.exe apart and so what load it carries, if any.
In any case caution is a virtue...
Enviado desde mi SM-N9005 mediante Tapatalk
The reason manufacturers and carriers do not like rooting is the security issues. It has nothing to do with them trying to prevent tethering or modifications. With that said any root method not developed and hosted on XDA by a known developer should be used with extreme caution. Exploits are not required to have source posted and it takes a great deal of time and effort to reverse them to see what they do.
I would encourage everyone to make their own decisions on this. I'm keeping my Kingo root, as I contacted them and was satisfied with the response I received. I like open source as much as the next guy, but not every piece of software can be open source. That doesn't mean that the application is malware.
DustinKimble said:
The main reason they were shut down here is because they are being so secretive with their methods and "closed source" doesn't exactly go around here expecially not with root methods. Expecially not with root methods originated from china.

I understand the fear. Its also interesting that they have a root method for many devices. So maybe they have a reason to not be so open. Maybe they've found the mother of exploits and they don't want it to be closed.
Or with all this talk about how they want to keep root free but pay their devs means they are going to use this super exploit to lock devices and charge people to unlock them in order to use it. Idk I'll wait a day or 2 and see what comes of this whether that's a good idea or not idk. Time will tell. Either way I've got designgears' one click stock on my PC just in case.

Otherwise, it automatically checks for updates and when it finds an update you'll be notified via the notification bar.

My Moto G not updated to 4.4.4
I received my Moto-G in Feb-2014, but its still not showing any signs for update, even after checking manually, its showing - no update available. My co-workers who buy their Moto-G in Aug/Sept month, is already updated to 4.4.4. Is there any short-cut for receive update... Pls help
