This started Feb 3rd or 4th. The phone will connect to the wifi network, with a good signal. It will then re-scan every 5 seconds or so. This is causing all sorts of data transfer issues from downloads freezing to apps losing connectivity while running.
I am running on Verizon.

I am now running Android 5.0 but had NOT updated to 5.0 when this problem started.
I scoured google a bit and found an ATT forum that is essentially reporting what I am.
forums.att.com/t5/Samsung-Discussion-Support/Samsung-Galaxy-S5-Wi-Fi-Connectivity-Problems-After-4-4-4-Update/td-p/4190704
All other devices on the network are operating without issue - phones and computers - as was mine until now.
I have power cycled everything.
I have checked the routers settings.
The phone has been power cycled several times.
The phone has had every wifi setting that would be causing this scanning, that I know, disabled.
The following are off in Wifi > Advanced:
Wifi notifications
Passpoint
Always allow scanning
Smart network switch
I then, after the above, updated to Android 5.0. The issue still persists. Help me please.
My device does this, too. Cant say I have ever really noticed, I dont know if it has always done this or not.
I am not experiencing any issues like you describe.
Now that I think about it, I think it will always scan at a set interval when you enter the Wifi settings. It assumes you are looking for a network to connect to. I doubt its scanning when you are not in that setting.
I had this problem the other day. I went to wifi settings and had it forget the network and then rebooted and reconnected to my wifi network and it seems to have resolved the issue. others have just switched airplane mode on and off and this fixed it. good luck

Hi Everyone,
I have a strange issue,
My wifi works, but today it won't recognize my work wifi even though it was connected to it on Friday.
I've tried everything I can think of to solve this issue, but the problem is only at work.
I just tried a free spot down the street and it connected to it no problem but it refuses to even acknowledge the fact that I have wifi at work...my laptop and and iphone are both connected, just the Nexus...
I've read os "similar" things happening to other people, but I would love to solve and know more about this if anyone has any info.
Thanks,
Lou
EDIT
I played around some more, and solved the problem.
I went to settings - wireless and networs - wifi settings - then the menu button, and went to advanced settings.
From here I went to regulatory domain and forced 14 channels and it seems to work now.
Hope this helps someone
L
Seems like they removed that option in the patch.
Cant find it anymore and my WiFi is not really working as it should any longer.. I get a connection speed of only 5mbps sitting very close to my AP. :-/
since update, my wifi is very fidgity. loses my house wifi all the time now. seems like every time the phone goes to sleep. my router is the schizz, so it shouldn't be because of lack of signal.
I tried searching and I've not found this issue addressed, but I may just be doing it wrong. But, here it goes anyways...
This house has 3 T-Mobile G2s, all with the same OTA. Only mine is rooted. However, none of them will stay connected to wifi. The wifi icon is showing up and it says that I am connected to the access point, but in status it says that mobile network status is disconnected. I can't do anything data related after it times out. If I disable and re-enable wifi it stays connected for a bit before it goes dead again. The handset doesn't go into sleep/screen doesn't turn off. Before I updated I did a Factory Data Reset, then re-entered all my information then let it update. Is there anything I can do, or try?

Being that all 3 phones cannot stay connected I'd be inclined to say look at your router... I'm assuming you've done all the obvious things like reboots, battery pulls, "forgetting" your network and then re adding it? Are other devices in the home able to maintain a wifi connection... your computer, for example? You've tried resetting your router?
If the screen isn't timing out, have you checked your Display settings? What makes you think the screen timeout is related to the wifi problem?
Well in the past on my myTouch 3g... wifi at times would get wonky after the screen timed out/it went to sleep. So was just adding that information here. Yeah, there are at least 8-9 other wifi devices here that can connect to the router just fine and send/receive data. I've tried "forgetting" the access point and then re-adding it, resetting the router, battery pull... and the same thing happens. And the router doesn't have MAC address filtering either. Can't ping google.com or 72.14.204.105 from the phone, but my pc can just fine. If I disable wifi it works as it should. Its just I only have realllly slow EDGE service in the house.

Hmm... by default wifi should turn off when the screen times out. Unless you've changed the wifi sleep policy. I had mysterious wifi trouble before on a different device (endless "obtaining ip address" loops) and the only thing that worked for me was restoring an older nandroid. Obviously, you're no longer rooted and that's not an option... but it's super unusual that 3 G2 phones are experiencing the same problem. And they're all running the Gingerbread update, so maybe that's the common denominator. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. I'd definitely pay T-Mobile a visit.
I've not messed with the wifi policy, but my last phone would just drop wifi completely and I had to forget/re-enter everything to get it back. If it was the update then I would think the problem would be more widespread. Going to try fiddling with the router some more since that would most likely be where the issue lies. All else fails will just rollback to an earlier nandroid, like you had to do, and seeing if I can't get at least mine consistent. Thanks for your help and letting me bounce ideas off of.
I sent my note 3 (sim free n9005) to repair one month ago because a sensor didn't work (another story). Now the sensor problem has been fixed. But there is another issue. The wifi keeps dropping. I mean wifi is completely turned off on my phone, then it tries to turn on, and off again... I have googled a while,it's not the wifi is slow, it's the wifi is completely turned off then it tries to turn it on, and keeps turning on and off. At first it happens occasionally and it can be turned on. Until several days ago, wifi could not be turned on at all. If I go into setting - connection - wifi, I will see it says 'turning on' but nothing happens. Reboot helps sometimes but the issue soon reappear. I did factory reset but no use. I would think it's the phone's problem. But When I go outside and test in public wifi (university wifi, MacDonald etc), it got no problem at all. So I began to think maybe there is something with the router. So I turned off my router, the wifi is turned on immediately and I can see all the wifi connections from my neighbours.
My router is virgin media netgear vmdg485 (100M fiber optical). I googled it, it seems specially made for Virgin media. It's a modem/router all-in-one device. Just wondering has anyone else got similar experience? B.T.W all other devices in my home connect to the wifi no problem at all. I think they may have upgraded my android software on the repair. I never had this problem before the repair. But android is the latest version (checked in settings). So I don't know what option I have on software side. Probably I need to try a new router?
And also I have tried everything I found on Internet (turn off switch network etc in advanced setting in wifi. turn off power saving for wifi, disable wifi direct/share, etc).

Hi,
I had a similar problem with my note and was advised to go into the wifi settings and deactivate "Scanning always available" and "Auto network switch".
I had this problem with a Virgin media router and where android was under the impression the connection was unstable it was deactivating the wifi to go back to the cellular.
This may be completely wrong but it solved it for me.
Hope this helps!
I had this issue and the only thing that solved it was a factory reset.
I had a similar problem with my Note 3 (SM-N9005) and Virgin Superhub 1
I hadn't previously noticed problems with wi fi at home when using different phones in the same location.
After much reading on support forum I concluded that many Superhub users believe the device is not very effective when operating as both a cable modem + wi fi router.
I opted for an expensive solution of buying a new wi fi router.
My Superhub now operates just as a cable modem and is connected via ethernet cable to the adjacent Asus RT-AC66U which does have the advantage of 802.11 ac.
Speed test result from Note 3 via wi fi setup described above.

Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Free mobile app
Thanks paul, mine is super hub as well. I want to get a router to test, but worring if it doesn't solve the issue.
wow, that router is a lot of money, really hope it's not the router issue.
Quick question/help. My phone wifi can not seem to be able to detect any new wifi network at all. But my already known networks from when I set up this phone in the beginning still work as long as I m at home. So I came to the conclusion that I have turned some kind of process off that have caused this problem. I use TiBu, Amplify Battery extender.
When I use other Wi-Fi apps, Wifi Fixer. I'm able to see other networks that are normally there.
So I m just wondering what is the process that takes care of this wifi scan, or this thing that allows the phone to show what it detected.
For the last week or two I have been unable to connect my phone to wifi networks.
At first the problem would be that I was getting disconnected from any wifi network I joined, now I can't connect at all.
The wifi networks page sometimes (not always) does not detect a strong network even if I am standing a few feet away and the phone has previously connected and other APs are connected and working like my pc
If I try to connect then I get the "Connecting" status followed by "Saved, secured"
I have searched the internet looking for a fix to this and tried wiping the cache partition, forgetting the network, airplane mode toggling on and off, apps that wipe the known network list and some others including lastly a factory reset on the phone but nothing seems to remedy the issue.
From the wifi router I have tried using an unencrypted (open) connection
Now I think I may also be having problems with the bluetooth connecting in the car but I haven't had a chance to really investigate that one yet and it may or may not be related to the last factory reset.
My phone is not rooted.

Can anyone offer any assistance to my current issue ?
Alan
I have just confirmed that the Bluetooth in my car is not detecting my phone when it scans (the phone bt is switch on and the visible box being checked) so that's both radios with similar issues.

Im having same issue with wifi... sm-g900r4
I just stumbled on a clue, while using an app called 'wifi cleaner' there is a feature allowing you connect to wifi networks within the app. I type in the password, authenticating is shown on the screen followed by "incorrect password".
I know the password to be correct..
Mmm

I was wondering if you ever got this issue fixed?
I thought I had but the problem comes back in a different way.
Sometimes wifi connects but only connects at 5 mbps.
Now wifi will not turn on at all. ( radio button is greyed in settings)
I did find a thread on xda where some Motorola users were having the wifi off issue and it was due to a missing system file which could be replaced on a rooted device. However I don't have root on my s5 g870a and it's not likely I can get it.
