And iv checked everything, sync is enabled everywhere. If I turn off sync and turn it on again, whatever is waiting comes through, but then never again. I even just did a factory reset and flashed the new update, and its still broken, before and after update. WTH could cause Gmail to stop syncing that a factory reset wont fix?????
even i am facing the same problem since this morning....gmail wont auto sync!! i have to refresh it manually.
Another thing i noticed is that i cant find the visual voicemail app in the market...does anyone have the apk for it?
wow im glad to here its not just me, i missed about 2 days worth of emails (I should have known...no way i could actually go 2 days with out some bs from work) before i realized it
Me as well. I haven't updated my phone yet.. so I don't think it's the ota causing the issue. I've missed numerous emails since yesterday.
Glad its not just me, I wonder if Gmail is borked for everyone at the moment? Im surprised we're not hearing more about this....
ive done everything but a factory reset, i have not had gmail sync since about 12pm MST
try going into settings/applications and find gmail and click it. clear the cache first and see if it works, otherwise clear data... it'll resync from scratch. this happens randomly and this usually fixes it.

ive been doing that about once an hour, still nothing.
I did both of those things multiple times, they didnt help. Then I did a factory reset, that also did nothing. I feel like if a factory reset doesn't help the problem is probably on google's end.
Mine has been doing this since yesterday (before OTA) and has been doing it today as well (since OTA).
I had to load the shipping ROM due to deleting Google Goggles before the OTA. So I doubt if a factory reset or anything will help the situation. I'm not getting automatic syncing of Gmail at all. I believe its something on Google's end. Hopefully it gets sorted out soon.

I've updated with the OTA and my gmail is syncing, so I doubt it's the update that's causing the issue. I did have this happen to me before when gmail stopped syncing, but all I had to do was to go back to "settings" -> "accounts & sync" and turn on auto-sync for gmail again.
I am only getting my gmail via manually choosing refresh. Also, deleting on the phone will not delete on my computer. Annoying. This has happened before, and seems to get resolved in a couple of days.
Seems to be an issue with other Android handsets as well.
I have a link, from Google Support forum, but since I'm a new user here, it will not allow me to submit the link.
Seems like Google is working on a fix though.
Well, that makes me feel a little bit better.
I noticed yesterday it wasn't syncing, so I followed the normal clearing of cache and data, and checked all the syncing settings.
It definitely has to be an issue on the other end for everyone to be having this problem at the same time.
same here. I thought the G2 update messed up the Gmail sync, but then I realized that my Nexus One was doing the same thing as well which I use as a tablet from time to time via wifi. Let's be patient and have Google work the issue, just a matter of time.
Easy fix
Go to settings and disable auto sync
Then turn off phone
Turn phone back on
Go to settings and enable auto sync
This fixed my issue after installing the updated OTA

Tried dilfatx's fix to no avail. Hopefully Google fixes this up quickly.
You are correct.. it worked for me for few hours.. tested it out.. now its not sync again.. this is a whole other issue..

Android central is reporting some issues with Google and sync e-mail accounts. Apparently Google is already hard work resolving the issue.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OTA UPDATE!!!!
Hi guys, I am having a problem with downloading apps through cellular data on my mytouch 4g. I can download them fine if I am on wifi but it gets stuck on "starting download" progress bar without it. I've tried clearing the data for the market app, restoring it back to factory, and the google talk sign in; none of these worked for me. This is driving me crazy and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update: Fixed nvm
How did you fix it?
yeah how you fixed it would be nice as mine is doing the same thing... ugh wish t-mo could have just brought a legit phone out
Turn On Wifi
Even if there is no wifi connection, on my MT4G the wifi has to be enabled for the market to download.
I think this may be fixed on the new update that came out today. I still haven't seen my update yet. :-( mine still does this too.

Go into settings/wireless networks/mobile network or operator and select Tmobile network. Even it is checked select it and make sure your phone is gsm/wcdma checked. WCDMA only created problem for me. Also if you have temp root you will not get the update as long as it is running on your phone. In addition, if you disabled any bloatware you have to restore it before the update. Once I disabled Visionary and restored back to factory I got the update in a couple of hours.
This is a really weird problem but it has to do something with the connection to the google servers (mainly google talk). This is evident by the fact that you are signed off and can not connect to google talk when you're stuck on the starting download phase of downloading the app(s). There are two ways around this problem that I've seen so far
1. Before you want to download an app, run google talk and make sure you're signed in, then sign out and sign in again. Go download the app(s) afterwards. Once you do this after you first power on the phone, it should last until you power it off.
2. Another way is go and try to download an app(s) you want and it will be stuck on the starting download bar. DO NOT cancel the download, just restart the phone and it should start downloading once the phone is back on.
P.S. The update did not fix this issue because I still have to deal with it.
If I learn anything new, I will keep you posted.

I got the update with Superuser and root just fine.
Not to rub it in, but I'm really glad that I am not experiencing this problem. I'm liking the phone too much to have a reason to bring it back!
Ok I have found out that the Google talk sign out sign in trick does not always work while the restarting one always works. It definitely is something to do the Google servers and the way the phone syncs with them. What I found interesting is that when you open the market app, immediately experience this problem as you can not sync under accounts settings and services like Google talk stop working. Another thing is that it seems to be the HSPA and HSPA+ connections causing the issue, the apps won't dl on them but it will start immediately as your phone drops to edge. I don't know if this is a hardware, software issue with the phone or the Google servers getting adjusted to the mytouch 4gs since they just came out.
Think I'm going to exchange my phone since not a lot of people have this problem.
Sorry to bring up an old thread but i'm now having this issue aswell. I've tried to clear data, can't download on Wifi or 3g. When i click ok it just says the download will be started and nothing happens, Sometimes if i play around i can get it to go to say starting download but just sits there then i will get either a network error to retry or cancel. Sometimes it's just a download unsuccessful and i click ok.
I tried resetting aswell and still same issue. Not sure how to sign out of google talk.. haven't quit got the hang of android yet but i'm actually not happy right now!
So, I'm liking this phone so far, we switched from tmo and I went from a m8 to this. Two annoyances, first, is there any way at all to dim the soft button lights, only at night? OMG they were bright last night while laying in bed! From what I can find, it's either 100% or totally disabled. I don't mind them during the day, but not at night. That's just stupid to me.
And another, what I think is major annoyance that just happened. It seems Sprint pushed a bunch of apps down to my phone automatically! I went through all my apps to log in and do all the setup stuff and then rebooted my phone. Now all of a sudden, I've got music players, tv players, support chat, etc., all Sprint branded! WTF?!? Are they going to keep doing this? Is there a way to stop this?
And now another thing...
It turns out that I cannot send or receive picture messages while on wifi. Sprint doesn't seem to know why and is blaming my wifi connection. No, that's not it. It's not slow (100+mb), there are no connection limits, my wife can do this just fine on wifi, we could do it before, etc. WTF????
More info, just found that if I turn off WiFi Calling, things work fine. Never had this problem with tmo....
One last update on the mms issue. Looks like I can't send via wifi. I disabled mobile data and still have the problem. So, with Sprint or the S7 you can't send mms messages via wifi? What's up with that?
1. the lights can be shut off with an app called Galaxy Lights not sure they can be dimmed without root
2. Try package disabler pro you can disable all of those Sprint apps and they wont be in your app drawer
3. Not being able to send MMS is 100% the device, It has worked for me on every device Ive ever owned. Try a factory reset just in case something got botched on the intial set up.
Are you using hangouts to try and send mms? If so, try another messaging app.
Sent from my GT-N8013 using XDA Free mobile app
I like to use mysms as default messaging app, but MMS gets stuck when I use it for default app. I have to go back to stock messaging and it works just fine so something might be borked with 3rd party apps for MMS. Another problem is if you change from the default messaging app, notifications for unread text on the always on display stop working.
Try textra, it has an option for sending/receiving over WiFi, I'm not sure if it works with the always on feature.

1. Yeah, I don't want them off, just dimmed or maybe be able to turn off just at night automatically.
2. I'll look into that one. I'd rather remove them to free up space, but if that's not an option, then this is the next best best.
3. Ug, I literally spend most of the day yesterday configuring all my apps (signing in, settings, notifications, etc.); I really hate to reset and go through all that crap again.

I went to the store today and after an hour and a half of them trying to figure it out and Googling it, they came to conclusion that it cannot be done. Can anyone with an S7 confirm that they can send a picture message over wifi alone or with wifi calling enabled? I don't believe their claims.

Thanks for verifying, what carrier are you on? I'm assuming Sprint, but want to verify.
I've been chatting with them on Twitter to their Sprint Cares account and they seem to be implying that it's because I'm on Sprint.

Thanks so much for testing this! Now It's time to whoop some sprint butt over this!
Well after talking to Sprint again and Samsung, it looks like it's an issue with Google Messages and Hangouts. Using the Samsung texting app, things work as expected. I thought I checked that before, but obviously not.
Much (but not all) of the Sprint bloatware can be uninstalled, not just disabled. Look at them one by one in the Application manager.

Yeah, I've been able to disable or remove most of it. But there are still a few lingering apps that I can't do either on. Also, they seem to like to push apps down to my phone. Just got something called sprint id the other day (just showed in the notification bar that it was installed). But I don't even see that in my app manager.
Hello everyone. I've owned my 6p since it was first released and have used T-Mobile this whole time. Recently I noticed that no one was texting me so I decided to test it out and text myself and I was right . I wasn't receiving any messages. At the time I thought it might have been something to do with me running a custom ROM so I unrooted and went back to stock and still the same thing was happening. I can send messages but nothing comes back to me. I talked to T-Mobile for a few hours. Literally troubleshooting everything on their end and everything was fine. Full service and all. Now I've been looking all over online and have yet to find anything. The frustration is really getting to me. Has anyone else experienced anything like this before? Are there any setting in my 6p that I might need to check out? Please help me guys.
Again. I have full service bars with activated service. I can make calls browse the web and send messages. I'm just not receiving anything. Also I am using stock google messenge
Of the top of my mind, clear google msn cache and data, from configuration> apps> google messenger... also check in hangouts if u have it if the google messenger is the default app for sms..
Once a long time ago, the rom tool box was the default app for sms and instalation of apps, dunno why this happend.. hope it helps, also u can use a third party app for sms and check, or even the hangouts.
good luck.

I contacted T-Mobile and they went through all that with me and my apn was all correct. It's the same apn I've been using the whole time. Also to the guy who said clear cache I fully factory reset the whole phone and re installed every app. I would assume that would clear the cache? It's so frustrating cause everything seems to be working. It's like my phone wants to be stubborn and not receive messages lol
Can you try your SIM card with another phone?
Ok I fixed it. Very weird. I switched to 2g and all texts came through then went back to LTE and continued working
Hey I have the same issue with my OnePlus 3. Stopped receiving sms 3 days ago. I can send sms just fine.
Like note3userr I had rooted my phone, so un-rooted it and did a factory reset, but the issue still persists.
I'm also on Tmobile, my selected APN is T-Mobile US (epc.tmobile.com)
Switched to 2G and back to 4G, as noteuserr suggested. The trick worked for me!
Weird as **** though...

I have a rooted Nexus 6p. A few weeks ago I flashed the factory images of Android 8.0 Oreo to my 6p. Flashed TWRP and rooted with magisk. For about a week or so everything was fine...then approximately 72 hours ago I could no longer receive text messages from anyone. I can send texts just fine I just can't receive them. I have full bars of service with 4g LTE. I can surf the web, use Facebook and any other app requiring data. I can make and receive phone calls.
I've tried everything. Removed the sim, rebooted, checked APN settings, cleared cache, wipe data, tried various different SMS apps. I even wiped the device and reflashed Oreo via fastboot again. Nothing.
I called TMobile they have no idea what's wrong. I called Google and they were of no assistance.
I'm going to try and flash the last nougat factory images later from Google and see if that helps. Before I do that I wanted to see if anyone here could offer some suggestions I haven't already thought of.
Thanks!

I would go get a new SIM provisioned for your phone at TMo for free. Are you pre-paid or post-paid?
I was planning on it. However around 0930 this morning all of my missing text messages came flooding in. SMS seems to be working fine now. Would still love to know the trigger of this issue.

You didn't happen to have an Ad Blocker installed? I had the same issue on a different phone, and that was the culprit.

Yes. I use adaway and adguard. Never had an issue with them not allowing me to receive texts. I'm also running both right now and sms is working fine.
Did you restore messages with titanium backup? If so make sure you have switched messaging back to the default app. Had the same happen to me.

Adaway is a host file fetcher. It has nothing to do with SMS and does not interfere with it. Try it again. It's the best one out there.
