[Q] Android Lollipop, full encryption and unlock options - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has tried full disk encryption on Android Lollipop and Samsung Galaxy S5? I need to have my device encrypted to get my work e-mail on it. I have been avoiding this because I hate having the long password that 4.4 required. Has anyone tried the encryption since the update? Does it still require 6 characters and 1 number? I'd really like to use pin, fingerprint, or really anything besides the long password.
Thanks all!

Nobody has encrypted lollipop? Sad! I guess I might have to be the Guinea pig.

If I am not missing something lolipop comes with full device encryption by default. I readed that somewere...

My understanding is that is only for new devices. Existing ones still have to turn it on. You can still do encryption in the security settings.

$200 Bounty

There is a password that I don't know that's somehow embedded in the Samsung stock browser. It should lock me out but it doesn't. I will pay anyone $200 who can somehow extract this password for me so I know what it is.

More details, better description please
There is a password to a website, Facebook to be exact on my works on the Samsung browser. I have the email address which is used to login but not the password. But somehow it works even through the password was changed. So it must be somehow cooked in the system. I need to find out what the password is.

Well, you're not a "new" user, so that makes the thread less fishy. But still a little fishy.
But your description is fishy and making it hard for me at least, to understand WTF is going on.
Are you missing the password for the email address or for the facebook account? If for the facebook account, then can't you just have them email you a reset password to your email account?
And if it's the email account you're missing a password for, then you're screwed unless you ever gave that email account a SECOND email account that a reset password could be emailed to.
Anyone who tries to help you "recover" a lost password would be:
1) Foolish unless you're some sort of code "god". Because it's damn near impossible, if not totally impossible.
2) Foolish because it's a total security risk. Maybe he's a stalker trying to get his ex-wifes password. Probably not, but you never know.
Good luck, hope you get it figured out.
It sounds like he is saying that he changed his Facebook Password but the browser is still automatically logging in without him telling it the pasword.
It may not really be logging in just he never logged out. My browser let me in straight away.

There's nothing shady going on I'm already on the site im just trying to figure out the password.. That's a good point.. Logged in never logged out. But wouldn't it kick me off if the password was changed?

Flash a new rom. Use a different browser. Wipe your phone? There's a ton of options. Now for the 200$? jkjk

If you have already changed the password, then why in gods name would you pay $200 for the old one? Just log out, then log back in with the new password. Problem solved. Old password will be disregarded due to the change of session. The only possible reason you would need the old password is either curiosity, or its not your account. Other than that, the old password is absolutely useless.
Something smells fishy in this thread.....
@rebel
I don't need the old password.. I'm trying to figure out the new one.. Or perhaps it just never logged me out from the old one that's a good point. But I would assume somehow it would know I don't have the new password and kick me off. The reason I want to figure this out is I'm stuck to this phone if I want to continue access.. No new roms and I'm a flashaholoc. I understand this is a strange request and there is speculation as to my intentions.. But my bounty is legit.. $200 to anyone who can figure this out.

If you need to know your own new password but don't remember it. Reset your password via reset password link and set yourself a new password. While at it go to settings, applications, all apps, find the stock browser, clear data and cache. Facebook will no longer be active via no previous logins anymore. Start fresh, same device, same Facebook, new password.
There should be no reason as to why you can't reset your own Facebook password if you seriously just set a new one. I had a friend try this once to try and get a girlfriends password.

Apparently not for him since he so concerned to figure out the password without having to reset it... Willing to pay 200 to avoid having to simply reset it.

Like above poster said I smell something fishy here. Maybe its his girlfriends or ex girlfriend and he's trying to get her password Lol jk

My recommendation and maybe the easiest (cheapest!) and perhaps proper solution is to simply reset your Facebook password again and go through all your connections and update the password again. No need to go through a hassle to crack your own forgotten password. I've forgotten many passwords and had to reset more times than I want to remember (it's always the password I did not log in my password program too
On the other hand, asking folks here if they can decrypt your (old) password that was saved in browser is already evoking some unpleasant questions -whether your intention and situation is above board or not. It's kind of an unnecessary hassle for you, too!
There are sites that focus on cracking passwords and all that, but I have not seen XDA threads focused on that -might be, but I don't know.
XDA folks who are happy to create roms, figure out bootloader exploits and other helpful things that make us all happy with our phones and tablets are pretty much honest and above board. When requests seem strange -well, you've see the reaction already. :good::good:
Good Luck
There's no other password. You just have a cookie telling Facebook you're still logged in. Clear cookies and cache and you're done.
duplicate thread?

What puzzles me -and does raise a question is that this thread request of yours seems to be the same question you asked in a thread you started on 23rd July 2013, 12:21 PM. Is this the same situation unresolved? Or, is it another password from another program??
I had looked at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43881656#post43881656

Nexus 4 stolen :(

My Nexus 4 was stolen a few hours back.. I have activated the android device manager but I had only activated the remote ring option. The remote lock and wipe options aren't activated.. As I see this options are greyed out...
Now what I am requesting help here is:
1. If the thief changes the Sim card, can I still track the location of phone using device manager? I called Google helpline and they confirmed this but I am not sure if they understood my question correctly.
2. All my Google and other passwords are saved on the device. So if I change my Google account password, can I still access the android device manager remotely?
I couldn't find these specific answers online hence creating this new thread... Any inputs are appreciated!

If you use Android Device Manager you should be able to see where the device is right now.
Adm won't show where my stolen phone is. I can make it ring apparently, that's it.

That's odd I also read a while back that it should allow you to track it if that doesn't work you can install plan b and do a remote push and then track it! Hurry time is of the essence

Looks like the device is off as the location is not updating. Or is it possible that the @s$%&# has deleted my Google account - will that remove my remote access to the device manager as well?
Also can anybody answer my 2nd question: if I change my Google account password, can I still access the android device manager remotely?
Apologies if I am sounding too demanding, I am just seeking help of fellow xdaers as a last ditch effort to track my nexus ..

I know that India is far away form Europe, but I'm pretty shure that you have pockets in your trousers, too... And I'm wondering, why you haven't been using them... N4 isn't such big that it can't be hidden in a pocket... I will fight to death if someone will be going to steal my N4

(Q) How can I make a secure messaging app?

Hey guys, I'm way to new to developing and the only experience I have is making a GUI with no actions. I am wanting to make a secure messaging app that not only encrypts, but also sends the data in bits and each bit have a different encryption. So when its traveling through the space of internet, its broken up and also encrypted and when it goes to the receiving device it compiles and decrypts the message. Can any one help me out with this?

You should start developing general Android Apps before you start such a huge project.

OK thanks. Am I being unrealistic with this? Can this all be possible I guess is what I'm wondering now?

My app smart messenger will have full AES CBC encryption controlled by the user (when it's not in beta and full release) and it's not that easy. Encryption and security is one of those things that needs lots of design and understanding cause falling in any way short either puts you or your users at risk, rendering it pretty much pointless
But you should start very small to be able to understand apps etc, encryption is a huge topic and you can spend months and years on it if you so wish (noting that android apps are not all that secure in the 1st place)

How can I fix Mobile Networks?

Hi my Mobile Networks settings are mess. It only show me the (Data Roaming, Network Mode and System Select) the option for entering the Access Point is no longer there I just want to know if there is a way to fix it. Any Help...
No way to fix it, it's locked down via Sprint. Older firmware revisions didn't have it locked. Believe me, I'd love to change mine as well so I could use Hangouts or some other txt msg app and send picture messages on wifi.
