[Q] Annoying software update postponed icon - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I hit check for software update today and it downloaded the new Lollipop rom i don't want. The only option i had was hide. now i have an annoying icon in status bar and notification area and i don't know how to get rid of it.... and how can i delete the update (where was it downloaded)
On other subject if i decide to update to this just to see how it is (and losing root and exposed) how is the best way to downgrade? Currently i'm on G900FXXU1ANG2 android 4.4.2 rooted but knox is still 0x0
from what i have read it should be pretty simple
1) download stock rom and odin
2) flash rom ticking f reset and auto reboot
3) restart in samsung recovery
4)wipe data
5) ...
but what is this about the new bootloader (about being locked)? i'm kinda confused... some people say it works some say it doesn't...

Hi gigeaky:
You can follow the next guides for root and downgrade. Downgrade, root
Hope it helps.

I have read those two and I thought there is something else...
I'll put a screen shot of my other problem

in /root/cache/fota there should be "update.zip".
if you delete that (would recommend backing it up just in case) and then tell it to update, it will fail and the notification will go away.
its not permanent, i do this every few weeks or so (however long until it checks again), but its easy enough and gets rid of that annoying icon/notification

Can't you just uncheck "auto-update" so you don't get future notifications?

doesnt work for me for some reason, it always ends up checking and popping up that notification from time to time anyway.

The folder is empty...
It was in data/fota

Thank you very much all! I was searching this thread for an hour.
I access it with Total Commander, now everything great!

Hello I did very same thing (downloaded Marshmallow update but did not install) I currently have Lollipop. My phone is not rooted, is there a way to delete this reminder without rooting the phone? I'm really not tech savvy at all and would rather not try rooting.

Android 2.3.2 System Update

I just got a prompted notification that 2.3.2 system update is now downloaded and verified in my phone. Just need to go ahead and ok the install/update on my phone. Not sure if most or all are getting this?
Should I? LOL
more info:
"Android 2.3.2
601kb
This system update from Google contains important bug fixes."
Go for it.
This is probably the update that includes the major SMS bug fix. Samsung posted to their official twitter account that and update to address that is coming very soon.
It looks like v2.3.2 is the one.
Funny thing though, I never had problems with the SMS bug. I have sent/received SMS (2k+). And when I got the notification, I just pulled the battery off to check my S/N to register in the Samsung website. LOL
Is there any other bug/fixes with this updates other than the SMS bug?
If you're rooted, you might want to wait and see if it's safe to do it (ie., doesn't break root) unless you're confident on how to get it back. The last update screwed with Recovery and gave some people some slight grief for a short period.
Just rooted
Wouldn't you know it? After I just finish rooting using the step by step guide, the first thing that pops up is that there is an update to install. So my question is, will installing this update kill my root? Or any other negative consequences for my newly-rooted SNS if I update to 2.3.2?
Just rebooted after update, seems that at least the browser got some kind of lagfix, for example www.n4g.com.
"Your system is currently up to date."
hmmm.... what about people on Custom ROMS ?
i check the Settings > About > System Updates
and there's nothing it says
"Your system is currently up to date."
Without thinking I chose to install it while being rooted and not backing up. After it rebooted it froze (when it couldn't find a recovery I'm guessing.) I pulled the battery, let it reboot, and I'm still 2.3.1 and rooted. Just FYI

Often one have to wait untill the devs implement the update into the custom rom.
Generally once you're on a custom rom, you're best to wait for the rom dev to give you guidance.

Not sure without being able to open the update file and see what it actually does.
IF you're going to try it. Have a nandroid backup made of your system as it is right now, and have a copy of CWM recovery handy to reflash via fastboot.
You'll probably have to re-root if you can even get the OTA to stick (like the one post above that says it didn't...)
so, back to stock recovery before update?
swype
FYI, swype did not work after update, had to reinstall, now works fine.
How do I get this update?
Made a check for updates in my NS, and I got none.
Still in 2.3.1 here.
Would those of you who get it, if you have a chance, please run the logcat on your phone BEFORE updating and try to catch the url so we can get a manual link for it:
in order to extract the url for the system update, we need to run alogcat from the market, then when the update notification appears look in your logs for a url that says something like clients.google . You can install alogcat, then set filter to clients.google

It's going to roll out slowly, just like the 2.3.1 and Market updates did. I don't think all the checkins in the world will speed it up by any significant amount.
What we impatient types need is someone who is offered the update to grab the url so we can just manually download it.

[Q] Been reading all night, still have a few questions about s4... sorry...

So i am relatively new to android and still have a few questions if anyone could help out...
I have rooted my s4 using cf auto root with out any issues other than i couldn't check the f.reset time box (not sure if that's unusual or not) so i then paid for and downloaded triangle away to reset the counter, now i'm rooted and back to official status, using nova launcher pro and able to receive OTA updates.
Currently haven't received the new update where i am yet (Australia) , the update which allows apps to be moved to sd and fixes a few other issues. Obviously i would like to get this update, I have paid for and downloaded mobile odin, i assume that when the new update is available i can download on my pc and transfer and install the file from my phone using mobile odin without restoring to stock? And once the update is installed i will need to root again?
I guess my main questions are, with the cf auto root am i able to install custom roms, am i able to update without losing the root, are their any available updates from other regions i can use without issues currently, i see a lot of talk about kernels and i am really lost when it comes to that as i haven't needed to change anything dramatic, it's all been pretty automatic, just want to make sure i'm not missing some important steps.
Thanks to anyone that bothers to reply.
First thing it sounds you have an I9505 so to be clear next time you better specify which you have mate
Second after rooting you wont have any official updates since phone is still rooted, instead download a rom and flash in CWM so of you dont have this recovery you have many options I recommend Philz....
3) you can get any firmware you like... as it goes for languages the guys already patch the roms well moat of them so that all languages are available so basicly any will do....
4) when flashing a firmware with MobileOdin you dont need to root again it has an option enabled by default saying to inject SU binary after each flash to be cool you wont have to REroot again

Yeah, soz, it's a I9505, so even after getting it back to official by using triangle away i can't get OTA updates? Cos before i used triangle away i checked for updates and it said "modified firmware, not able to update", now it's back to "you have the latest firmware available". Even If i was able to do OTA updates when available Would that cause issues, meaning i'm better off just doing a manual update now via mobile odin? Is the custom rom necessary for anything i'm trying to do, cos i'm pretty happy with just having it rooted and nova launcher. I haven't found anything i can't do that i want to be able to do yet. Thanks for replying.

Update from NAE to NG2!

Anyone receive this update yet?
I took the update and my build number updated, but my baseband and software still say NAE (Happened to me late time too) so hopefully the .tar file gets released soon or a way to redownload the update file and place it on my external sd card and reflash it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm all stock with Towelroot only. just wondering if the new "Google security fixes" will break the Towelroot exploit as I'm assuming that it will.
Also assuming that this is pretty much a useless update that only closes that exploit since Sprint was too sorry to include wifi calling as it should have.

I want to do the reverse
I took the OTA to NG2 and now apps that I regularly use (DoggCatcher and Daily Roads) are reporting storage problems and are unable to write to ext SD card, even after applying NextApp fixes. Maybe I need to reset the paths or something, but if that doesnt work, what would be the best way to revert back to NAE?

This is probably stupid and already answered in another thread but I'm a noob, don't flip out on me... Let's say, theoretically, I was to accept the
NG2 update. I'm rooted with Towelroot, using Supersu and Titanium backup. I've backed up then delete almost all of my bloatware with TB and have no further use for root at the time. If I were to break root with the update, will all that stuff stay the same and be safe until I can root again? I.e. If I break root, touch none of those root apps, then root again later, will they even "know" anything happened?
Since you can't take an OTA while rooted, that won't work.

You will have to first install the stock NAE tar file with odin to return your phone to a stock unrooted condition with the stock recovery. Then you can take the ota. After that you can reroot again with cf autoroot.
Now the question is can you keep the domestic sim unlock if you do this?

[Q] Please help a noob out. This is the last time I'm trying :(

Ok. So I've tried to ask this question before, and every time I get people telling me to do things I just don't understand. Sorry. Not trying to spam. If this question goes unanswered I will not post another and I apologize if this is too stupid. Just a noob trying to get help.
All I want is to update my phone (SM-G900F) to the most recent Android version. Like 3 weeks ago I got the prompt to update OTA because a new update was available. I've haven't modified my phone other than Towelrooting in July and having SuperSU and Titanium. Had planned to get way more root stuff but so far I haven't had the time.
OTA Update failed, told me my phone was modified in an unauthorized way and suggested to update through Kies.
Here's my question: What's the simplest, easiest way to update correctly? I'd rather do it one way or the other: Either, I unroot with SuperSU and remove Titanium, then download Kies and try to update, if successful I reroot with Towelroot OR: I can manage to update WITH Towelroot and SuperSU still there, if so, how?
That's all I'm asking. Would the first option work best? Is there a better way? I don't want to use Odin or anything like that, I don't want to use custom roms or anything, I'd just like to have the most recent update and root, that's it. Please put me out of my misery.

You can't have it both ways. Odin is the easiest, otherwise try Kies.

So would it work if I unroot with SuperSU, then install Kies on my pc and update to most recent Anroid version?
Or, if I'm already going to unroot first with SuperSU, can I then just try the OTA update and if successful, can I reroot with Towelroot or will that be outdated with the most recent Android version?
Download odin 3.09. Download the latest official firmware for your device, search the forums to find the latest one. Extract the .tar file inside the firmware zip u downloaded. Make sure you have the drivers installed for your phone on your computer. Extract Odin and run the .exe to open the Odin program. Put your phone into download mode> While Powered off hold volume down.. Home.. And power button. Press continue when given the warning plug in your phone to the PC.. Within Odin click the ap slot. Load the .Tar file which is your firmware. Make sure Odin recognizes your phone is plugged. Hit start. Sit back and watch it flash.

Ok. I hope this does not sound arrogant. But I honestly can't believe why anyone on this forum can't directly answer my question instead of giving me other suggestions. I don't want to use Odin, it's too complex for me and I don't want to mod my phone to hell and back. I just want to get the most recent update released 2 or so weeks ago.
Nobody has said whether the Kies method works (letting Towelroot remain on my phone and trying to download most recent Android version with Kies on my pc), or whether I unroot with SuperSU, remove all root apps (I only have 3), then try the OTA update just with my phone and see if that works. Can somebody please just answer that? PLEASE
..
I think I'm correct in saying the most recent ota comprised on little more than minor tweaks and security updates.
The world's not going to come to an end if you don't have the very latest update.
Perhaps more research BEFORE choosing the root route would have been wise, at least then you would be more informed as to the outcome of your chosen option.
Having read the last few posts it's clear to me, even as a relative S5 noob that your questions been answered quite comprehensively. Just not the install an app and reboot option you were hoping for.

.......did you by any chance select ART rather than running a DALVIK system?
I did that before rooting and I got the same can't install ota due to modified yada yada.....
I reverted back to Dalvik and the ota installed no problem. As I said.... This was pre rooting so might not be relevant.

from reading the replies above i think the answer is no it wont but why not just give it a try, if its not going to work it will just tell you so (like the ota update did)
your options as stated above are to either use odin and install the latest update or take it to a shop or find someone who is close to you who knows how to use odin and ask them if they wouldnt mind doing it for you and buy them a beer as a thankyou,
odin isnt hard to use in fact it couldnt be any easier to use for a noob just follow a couple of simple steps and your done
i hope you get this sorted

Towelroot after latest OTA-Update doesn't work!
I don't know if the idea of an update is so good.
My SM-900F was Towelrooted to run Titanium, too.
My setup was "OTA when in a WIFI network" and clicked "update yes" - I was typing some notes very late,
the message box popped up and --- swoosh --- the Update was running. No need to say my notes weren't saved?
I don't even know what that update contained and what it was good for.
Now I run 4.4.2 ,
Baseband G900FXXU1ANG2
Kernel 3.4.0-2089850 [email protected] #1 July 3rd 2014
Build KOT49H.G900FFXXU1ANG2.
Root access has gone, Towelroot says "device not supported", Titanium doesn't work anymore.
No I have to start Windows only to run KIES - waf.
So be careful.

Ok, so I have unrooted with supersu and removed Titanium. Supersu is still there. I've tried to do an OTA update, and surprisingly this time it actually went so far as to actually download the updates. Then after I press install, it goes into boot mode and says like 20% or more installed, then it goes black and reboots, everything is normal but the update failed.
What. Now.
They should really start telling people that rooting will cause updates to become a nightmare. Please help me, this is ridiculous.

Lack of common sense is my diagnosis.
Of course it's not always going to be plain sailing. And early days with any new handset means there are answers we just don't know yet.
That's why pretty much every thread has a precursor from the Dev that says "use at your own risk","read instructions fully before flashing" or " it's not my fault if your dog gets fleas or your nan pegs it" etc etc etc. If you have any doubts rooting your phone wasnt for you..... you shouldn't have rooted.

thank you.
please?

Did you use Triangle Away to reset the system status and binaries to official? If not reroot with Towelroot again, use Triangle Away to reset the counters (besides the KNOX flag), unroot with the superSU app, then flash a stock rom with Odin and after that factory reset. Your device is official now.

jesus ****ing christ. i'm not that kind of a phone pro guy. I just want to know if updating with Kies with allow me to reroot afterwards again (whether or not with Towelroot or ****ing Odin isn't important anyway). I rooted with towelroot in july, know isn't tripped or whatever. I have unrooted with supersu. Now I just want to know whether or not updating with Kies on my pc will be successful, and if it will allow me to reroot again, like with Towelroot...
PLEASE

Well I know why no one can answer that simple question. Because no one has done it that way. That is why you can't get the answer you seek. So you have a choice, give up and stop asking, or be the first to try it. Then post here if it works or not.

Unlocked Version not getting Android 10 update

Hi all,
I tried searching for it here and in other sources but couldn't find anything that would help since this is an unlocked version.
I am not getting any updates or the Android 10 update and its already end of February, is this normal?
FYI the phone was purchased unlocked in the US but I'm living in Jordan.
Give it a check whether your device does actually get any updates using Frija here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-t3910594/
Just need to find the correct CSC.
If there is a new firmware it means your device some how couldnt get OTA to work properly. you may wanna check whether your device's knox is void.
All how-to mentioned above can be found in xda.

Thanks!
So I checked it on Frija as you said and it turns out there is a software update (Android 10) for my phone. The problem is that I got some updates after purchasing but now it is stuck on November security update. Do you recommend I wait for an OTA or maybe flash it manually?

Lets go with some more checks to make sure your phone is still OTA-able
1. Manually check for update: go to Settings -> Software Update -> Download and install see if you can get any updates. If you are on a VPN or proxy, try without it just in case the update server somehow gets blocked (doubt that. but... lets give it a try)
2. Go to download mode: Vol down + Bixby + Power combination and check the Knox status. if your knox is intact you should see something like Warranty void 0x0. If its 0x1 then your Knox is void and this is permanent Samsung makes sure of that. Unless you get a mainboard replaced, i dont think you are able to get OTA working again.
3. Use Samsung SmartSwitch on PC (with your phone connected) see if it can update your phone, the "official" way.
3b. Or try flashing a latest stock firmware, again, stock firmware, with Odin. you must use the HOME_CSC... not CSC... to keep existing apps and data. Then wait for the next update see if OTA works.
Flashing a stock firmware should not void your Knox nor cause any problems. Just be careful of the risk of losing exising data.

1. Phone says it's up to date
2. Download mode shows that warranty is intact "0 and 0x000
3. Smartswitch didnt show any updates
3b. I still did not try this, its been a long time since i flashed any software on a samsung phone (since the S2), i guess i might give it a try??

Hmmm then maybe i was guessing wrong the whole time. maybe theres nothing wrong with your phone. its your unlocked (unbrand) us. normally carriers (brand ones) would be pushing updates faster. maybe you will need to wait for samsung to push the updates for unbrand phones, which could be usually slower. am not sure.
maybe you might wanna go with the flashing option. you using stock firmware so there shouldnt be any risks and would be pretty easy do to just follow the steps.
sorry i wasnt helpful enough mate
Edit: just wanna share 1 more thing i been suffering with latest update. if you upgrade to 10 and one ui 2.0, android (and/or samsung) has completely blocked using custom fonts. gxfonts wings or other theming apps no longer works with changing fonts. so if you re using custom fonts it will survive the update just make sure you dont change it or you will lose it. am almost abt to give up knox to go root now.

Thanks a lot mate, you've helped by showing me that there's nothing wrong.
As with any update there are always problems, so considering to just keep waiting for the OTA for now, it's not like there are new features in it, Samsung already have everything you could ever think of.

I'm checking Sammobile and Frija for the firmware for my specific csc and couldn't find it anywhere. Is it ok to flash another country's firmware?
