Friends I have moto g 2nd gen bought from flipkart in India in October. I also bought 3 of them for my friends in January. When i compare their screens with mine, i found that their screens are a bit yellowish while mine is pure white. Also they are having grid lines seen on screen in sun while mine is not. I think Motorola is using good quality in older ones? Anybody felt same issue?
Yes...i have a pale yellowish white screen as compared too pure white.
And even grid lines...are visible in direct sunlight.
And i m quite happy with the 720p IPS HD Display ..offered by motorola at a reasonable price.
It brings life to wallpapers and textures

I have the pale yellow type screen as well and I can also see those grid lines in sunlight.
Does anyone know what are those grid-lines? (just curious)
Oh...and btw would you please tell us which screen do you like the most?
To be honest i like mine whitish one bcoz it produces more natural colors and there is no grid lines seen in sunlight.
I was just about to start thread about this , Very recently my friend booked Moto G 2014 from Flipkart , but on receiving i found this screen to be very yellowish comapred to mine which i bought in Dec 14. IT was looking very cheap type although it had good colors(more saturated ) but lokkinh dirt cheap man.
I was shocked to see this and thought of this device specific only but that guy returned that mobile due to speaker problem and on exchanging ,, new mobile screen was same Yellowish and looking cheap esp on browser viewing of white webpages .
Looks like Lenovo is now having some influence
If I turn my phone just right, I can see grid lines buy I can't see any yellowish cast to it.
Yes..i bought moto g 2nd gen in november 2014..after that my friend bought phone in December.. I noticed difference in display but i dnt know what exactly it is..i just thought may b its because of screen guard.. But now i think there is diffrence definitely..

You have Gorilla Glass 3. Why use a screen guard? Unnecesary and detracts from the phone's original screen.
My screen is the pure white one, buyed the phone on a random store in 18 nov 2014. I guess the Yellowish screens only appeared after/in december.

Well as I said earlier, I've the gridlines in my screen, and it looks slightly pale yellow too. However I bought it on September 14 which means Motorola had both types of screens from the beginning...
Anyway, I've another concern now.
There is a GAP between the bezel and the screen. Its less than 1 mm but over 0.5 mm, mostly at the right side of my phone.
Can anyone please confirm whether they have any GAP like this or not?
Please share the photographs if possible, I'll share mine soon (have to get a camera)
Hello. As I have 7 friends who also own the ΧΤ1068 model and I've been able to compare them all, I can confirm that there are two different types of digitizer used. The digitizer grid consists of many dots and lines. It's the layout of each type that makes the one seem like there are vertical lines on the screen. Here's an image I made to explain how the two digitizers look while holding the phone under a light having the screen turned off.

Yes dear you are right. I bought in October and there is no yellowish ness on screen. I think Motorola is purchasing screens from different vendor. But now they look cheap.
Another thing
Friends if you look at a particular angle in newer screens, you will see light diagonal lines which is not seen in older white ones.

My phone was shipped from Hong Kong to Thailand and has a manufacturing date of September 26, 2014. My screen's white has no yellowish tint whatsoever and the color of the white tends more towards the blue spectrum, but it is a very nice white. I guess I got lucky. I've only had the phone for a couple of weeks. I've had LG phones with a reddish tint (didn't bother me but my wife hated it) and I would probably be bothered by a yellowish tint. Why would Moto opt for an inferior screen when the phone has been getting such good reviews? Maybe it was something Lenovo forced on them after the sale finally went through?

Exactly my thought too, I too lucky that i got one white one but my friend and my brother both purchased recently and they have this significant yellow tint
We talked about this some in the CM12 thread in the Original Development section.

Those appear to be three known displays used in the Moto G 2014. You will need root to run that command.

What about the GAP between the bazel and the screen?
Does anyone have it?

I know there are a few different threads about various screen concerns, but this one is specific to color distribution. Sorry if this belongs elsewhere.
I attached a picture of the Note 3 screen without any screen protector while on the dark gray color from the LCD Pixel Testing app. Apologies that the uploaded picture isn't rotated properly. The bottom-right has a purplish/pink tint to it and the top-left has a greenish tint. It's not the camera angle/picture because I took another picture of it from the same angle, but upside down and the coloring moved accordingly.
I also took a picture of the Note 2 under the same conditions to make sure that this isn't normal for other screens, and the Note 2's screen was much more consistent. I've experienced uneven color distribution on the Samsung UN46B8000 TV, but not on a mobile device.
Does anyone else have this type of uneven screen color on the Note 3?
Thank you!
Im not sure why is this happening. Im now on my third replacement and every one has this hue or tint in different parts of the screen. Im not sure if its fixable but I gave up on samsung. I just hope it goes away after some time.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to check out display models and see how the uniformity is. If they are worse than mine, I'll keep mine. Still, I think that Samsung should really work on this. I've compared it to the Note 2 and S3. All have better uniformity than the Note 3, which saddens me as I was really looking forward to this device.

I spoke to one of the tech guys at my work and he said it could be a power issue. The power source could be coming from the upper-left corner and it gets weaker as it goes across the screen, which could explain the gradient-like change in the display. If the pink is at the bottom-right for all our displays, it could be the explanation.
We looked online for a proper teardown, but we couldn't find one that showed where the screen power originates from. I don't know about this because I'm not sure if full/more power would result in a greenish-blue hue. The only evidence I can think of that supports this is that the Note 2 and S3 were overly greenish-blue in tint over the entire screen.
Does everyone affected have greenish-blue on the top-left that fades into pink on the bottom-right?
just tested mine with the app i got no tint or diffrent hue .. I've tested it on AUTO, Manual low, high brightness settings..
I have these problems since I own AMOLED devices, and that is now for quite some time (see sig.)! Me too had to exchange each device a few times until I got some with a almost perfect screen! On both N9005 I own so far the lower screen side is darker, although there are other significant differences between the two screens: the one of the second device is much more uniform! plus no1 has sharp pitch up in gamma on the leftmost 5mm over the whole side (maybe this screen has been cut out from the edge of the mother-substrate: the more from the center the better, due to principles of metal mask lithography)
I've done a few posts in regard to this in the past, if interested use the search function!

Another problem I have: When CUP is on medium to heavy load, screen brightness and contrast start to go up and down slightly each few seconds on all brightness levels, even on manual and lowest brightness! this happens on both devices, although here the first one is a little more stable! for me this happens always when in gallery for example, due to CPU load because of media scanning... Seems to be some load or thermal brightness throttling mechanism implemented (guess: in some part of the kernel)...

mine doesn't have a hue but on really dark colors (like the dark tapatalk theme) the screen color is uneven on the background.

I'm happy for you. For me, I gave up and bought LG g2 and I'm so glad I did. I just love this ips screen.
I'm wondering if it's there is edge LED lighting and the screen is just uneven.
My first one was like yours which seems very bad. Took it back got a new one, this one has the issue too, but its not that visible. I wanted to take it back again, but then i saw a guy who took 3 Note 3s back and the last one was the worst. So change it until you find one acceptable and next time wait a bit until Samsung gets better QC, or hope for another player on the phablet market.

It's probably not as bad as I make it sound. You can only see it if there isn't any light in the room basically. I took a screen shot of the battery status menu and cropped it to the all "black" part and put a black dot on it. In a totally dark room (doesn't mater what the screen brightness is) see if you can find the dot. It's pretty small you have to zoom in a lot. But using this image I can see the uneven lighting on the screen. If there us ant kind of color displayed though it's totally invisible.
I'm kind of worried about getting one that's worse too. that's what's got me not wanting to deal with it. A lot of them down here have been getting returned to best buy and Verizon because of a signal issue or battery drainage problems.

So I returned the first one and got another. This one is better but there's a big dark band that goes across the middle. It's not as pronounced as the last one though. -__-

Try this in a dark room. Using Display Tester app test card Grey #808080 and put the brightness in the screen tester to as low as possible as well as your phones brightness to low as feasibly possible. The check out the lower half near the home button. You will see it being slightly different and darker. Both mine and the wife's do it. Her's possibly a little bit more pronounced than mine. Normal, as I never notice it during day to day or night time viewing. Point being I have to go out of my way to find this so called issue.

can confirm this! and it was the same on note1, note2, ... on basically all amoled devices i owned from samsung so far!
the "problem" is the manufacturing process of the amoled screens:
they were cut out of a wafer. in the process of exposing the wafer with a light source through a FMM (fine metal mask) the exposure is not evenly distributed over the whole wafer. the more from the middle your screen has been cut out, the better it is! the gradients (down side darker, right side darker, ...) are due to the gradient light exposure of the wafer before cutting!
so it's all luck of the draw: atm i have one (!) decent screen out of 5 devices! the bad thing is: on this device the thermal throttling is comparable worse then on two of the other devices i have, but on these the display is very uneven!
so it seems to be a hard task to get a device where a) the screen is perfect and b) there are none of the other known problems (wobbly button, thermal throttling, noisy camera, ...) present!
thank you samsung!

Does the black pick up loads of fingerprints? One of the great things about my silver HTC One is that it just doesnt get dirty... Thats probably why I am leaning towards the Silver/white G Pad
Where'd you get your G Pad from, NewEgg.ca? I'm curious if we can isolate more non-blue-line or poor screen quality tablets to batches that went to Best Buy / NewEgg.com...

Got it from Newegg.ca.
The back does pick up fingerprints (as do most metal backings like the IPad Mini). It is going into a case permanently as soon as it arrives so not a real issue. It does look bloody amazing but I've dropped a tablet in the past and damaged it due to no case (a $500 Toshiba AT270) so making sure that will not happen again.
This thing is honking fast. Loaded my entire book library into Moon + Reader Pro (best Android app for EPUB's) in under 15 minutes!
My GPE was sealed with a single grey piece of tape, not sure why LG isnt sealing some.
My box didn't even have a sticker on it. The box does display a white tablet though so perhaps that is why they were left open.

Sure. I'll get out the good camera. My point and shoot Sony will have trouble capturing colors.
Here is a shot. Samsung Tab 3 8.0 on left, IPad Mini (first gen) centre, and LG on right.
It has a warmer tone than either tablet but by itself the screen depicts white quite well. I have never run the Samsung or Mini at full brightness as I find them too bright.

Thank you. Yours looks very similar to mine. My problem is that I use a G2 that is tuned really cool so it makes the G Tab look extra bad to me. If you notice, even the gray tabs for chrome look a little dingy. It has left me extremely disappointed with the G Tab. Hopefully since they have released a GPE edition we will be able to adjust the gamma and saturation. Thanks again for doing that. I have a feeling that all the people that think they have defective units due to a yellow screen, really just prefer the cool look. I noticed in the pics on droid-life today on the GPE edition, their unit has dingy whites too. http://www.droid-life.com/2013/12/12/unboxing-and-hands-on-lg-g-pad-8-3-google-play-edition/

My GPE is calibrated almost the same as N5 screen, it is warm, compared to the G2 it is really warm as the G2 is really cool...
Btw, I just ran a video for almost 40 minutes using the default player and no blue line showed up. Also no dead or stuck pixels.
I just compared it to the Mini 2 and it is actually brighter. The Mini 2 is less bright than the original (battery conservation).
Seeing as I have been running the Samsung at 45% brightness, the LG needs about 65% to be comparable which is fine.
Not really concerned about battery life when on the go.
Got one of these at Memory Express on Black Friday sale.
PNY Powerpack Dual 5200 mAh.
$20 on sale free shipping. I have a lower mAh unit that I use with my Samsung (3200 mAh from Logisys). Gives me roughly another 7-8 hours of charge full use (watching video) and recharges the tablet while in use.
This one will charge two devices at once and has rapid charge. Should provide 10-12 hours of additional power to a tablet.

Sadly the GPE kernel by default doesnt allow trickster to tweak the gamma/color balance.
We can discuss display issues here. Here's my situation:
Let's be clear: MOST display have problems. My iMac I'm posting this from is tinted yellow on the left half and magenta toward the bottom right corner; my Nexus 7 2013 had edge light bleeding; 3 iPad minis retinas had edge yellowing; I returned and exchanged my way through 5 iPhones 5ses and 5 Nexus 5s before I found one without display problems; etc. But these faults are subtle enough that the general population isn't sensitive to them, or else they mostly don't care.
Sure enough, my Note 4 has display issues. I'm not sure if this is Mura Effect stuff or just bad quality control. Check it out below.

The picture above doesn't do it justice, it's a lot more apparent when you've been using the actual display in real life for awhile. Also disregard the scan lines. But notice about 1/3 of the way from the top, there's a subtle horizontal line where the display below it is more gray, and more yellow above it. And if you divide the display diagonally from the bottom left to the top right, then the left half is tinted yellow compared to the right half, especially toward the upper left corner of the display. And the entire right edge of the display is tinted magenta, which is more apparent toward the bottom right.
Above I used the Note 4's Screen Write ability to document the imperfections as I see them.
Don't get me wrong, the display is nice. But I will likely have to flip through several devices until I end up with a good display. Are you guys noticing some Mura Effect problems, or other problems? Talk about them here.
PROTIP: to see the Mura Effect imperfections on your Note 4 display, grab this image and view it in a pitch black room and manually dim the display to the lowest level.
All I see is someone who is a perfectionist
So far I haven't had a display Issue. I keep at full brightness at all times.
Anyway, I know people are having issues and I am sorry you are too.
I got lucky I guess
From the BadAss Note 4
I dont notice this at all on my white note 4. Even if it so faint then the difference is neglible. Its not really worth the trouble going through 10 different devices just to get rid of this effect. But i turned off all lights and its night here so no outside lights and i see nothing at all wrong with my display. i also dont see anything wrong in your images either.
OP def has issues.
I see grey lines on the image that I'm not even sure is an artifact of the display or what you purposely have showing on the screen n I do see the slight greying 1/3 the way down, but again, what do you have displaying on the phone to represent this and how do you know that image itself isn't creating the artifacts, not the display?
No way YOU get that many lemons... either you're too picky or your method of testing is flawed.

The gray lines are from the camera, I edited the OP to reflect that. The image is just a plain white image, the same one i used to demonstrate display problems with the nexus 5 earlier this year. It's not that i get unlucky, it's that displays usually have problems. The apple store manager let me replace my 5s to get a good one because he acknowledged the edge yellowing and that colors were inconsistent even across the 10 display models. He told me outright that displays are calibrated within certain limits, and every display will appear differently, but that edge yellowing is an actual problem and he could see it after I pointed it out. I can't be blamed that most people aren't bothered by these problems, or that they're too insensitive to notice them. And again, the pictures don't do it justice...we're talking about a display you hold in front of your face live and stare at for hours daily.
On my current Note 4 what i mainly notice is that the gradient, where the yellow tint of the upper left gradually blends into the magenta of the bottom right. For me that's noticeable constantly. I can't make myself not see it, it's pretty apparent despite the image in the OP not showing it off well. As for the horizontal separation between the milky upper 1/3 and the gray lower 2/3, I'm only actually aware of that whenever i scroll, because eyes are made to notice contrast so it becomes apparent whenever my eyes are tracking something as it passes that border.
Nope. Perfect display here.
my problem.... and a big one, i cant stop staring at it. lol
Starting to have buyers remorse, tempted to consider a 6+ if stores dont have stock to exchange this for soon. Its so gross, this is all i see whenever im using my $830 phone with the "best mobile display ever" according to display mate:
Also, not necessarily a problem just something i noticed, this display gets SUPER bright in direct sunlight (its max brightness is only allowed on auto brightness, you cant set it there manually). That makes all colors super washed out, its weird, but so far not a problem. What im writing about here though is something I've never noticed on an lcd displays: whenthe note 4 SAMOLED is at this max brightness because youre viewing it in direct sunlight, if you use your finger to cast a shadow on the display, it makes this really bizarre inverted shadow effect. Try it out, its kinda crazy!
Hey am having tmobile send me new device because of this issue, for me it was really noticeable in landscape mode browsing Web at night once eyes start to adjust to screen brightness, I can see on mine were one side is whiter and the other a greyish purple hue.
---------- Post added at 10:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:11 PM ----------
My note 3 did not have this issue.
It's highly unlikely that you're going to score a unit with absolutely consistent white balance across the display. I haven't had an AMOLED screen that doesn't have it to some degree, and i've had many. Even my Note 4 has it, but it's very difficult to see unless you're really looking for it.
When I first got the S4 a couple years ago I got a unit that was so bad that when looking at the keyboard in landscape it was clearly 2 totally different colors on each side, but I exchanged and got one that was much, much better, but still not completely 100% even. So you might try an exchange if you can, but don't expect absolute perfection. Most displays on most devices will have some degree of imperfection if you look for it, whether it's white balance issues, back-light bleed, uneven brightness etc etc. An AMOLED panel is still likely to give you a better overall experience than a comparable LCD.
As many others have said in this forum, just try not to look too hard at the finest details ("mura" effect for example)...it's still mass produced hardware. If your screen is that noticeable though, exchange it.
I had this problem with my black note 4, my wife has the white one so it was clearly there when put side by side, tmobile said it was ok so i had to take her phone the next time and then they said it was bad. Something interesting, the white ones seem to not have this problem.
Yea got shipping info for new device today, should be here Monday, which ever one has least defect I'm gonna keep.

my gf has a white note 4 from vzw .. i have a black note 4 tmo.. the only thing i notice between our devices is that hers has a slight yellow tint but her display is a little brighter.. i have seen this with my old iphone's if i ever had to get a warranty replacement form apple .. the replacements always had a yellow tint but were brighter ..
so far no issues with my note 4 .. i got lucky this time around :good:
Lol.... I think I beat all of you. This happened a few hours ago while I was using Yelp and Google Maps to find breakfast. Needless to say I'm pretty upset right now, but thankfully I have my Note 2 still, so at least I have something to use until T-Mobile helps me out. I'll be going there in a few hours to talk to a rep to request a new unit. Hopefully they don't try and **** me because I bought in via T-Mobile's website versus in store or because I don't have Jump anymore.

Dude is that the way it looks ALL THE time? Dude GO WITH THE WHITE ONE. I know I am I have the charcoal black and seems to be a bigger problem with the black ones than white I went in to the tmobile store and they had a white and black one. The black one was the same as mine (bluish white/warm color) compared to the WHITE note 4 the white looked great. Sure the black seemed brighter but I think that's what hurt the device in the first place. Sending mine in today or tomorrow already set.
Sent from another Galaxy! Note the difference!

Nick you should save yourself the hassle and just call tmobile customer care. The lady right away told me to send then my phone and as soon as they got the tracking number they will send me a new one. I'm going with the white if I can.
Sent from another Galaxy! Note the difference!
I exchanged mine 2 times because they had dust under the screen . Too bad I didn't check the screen uniform last time.
Anyway I'm on my 3rd Note 4. I don't have yellow/blue/purple tilted part but the white is not uniform as I can tell the top half of my screen is a little bit dimmer. It's something that an average user wouldn't notice but I do because I'm extremely picky. Anyway my dad's note 3's screen has uniform white so maybe you can score a perfect amoled screen but then maybe you'd end up with another problem like dust or dead pixel.
Sometimes I hate myself for having such good eyes lol

My black Note 4 also has some issues with the screen uniformity. My right side has a pink hue as described above. I don't have the yellow tint on the left. Also under direct sunlight the screen creates a strange effect, it looks like the colors are inverted. If you place your hand to create a shadow over the screen then the colors look correct without the inversion, it is a very strange phenomena. I am trying to decide whether to exchange it for a white one or get another black one.
Are the white version somehow better in quality control?

Mine was looked like this. And everyone in the BestBuy from where I got this said this is NORMAL. Fortunately I could able to get a replacement from the other BestBuy. The new one is still not perfect (it looks similar to yours), but I can live with it since I don't want to send it for Samsung's Warranty service.
(My local BestBuy said they can exchange the smartphone for only one time. If I have a problem with the replacement, I have to send it back to the manufacturer for repair. I couldn't find this from policy in BestBuy website, but that's what they said to me.)
Hello,
I just noticed that when i tilt the screen the bottom will slowly tint, espeicially when the colour white is displayed. White will turn into a smudgy grey/yellow. The top half of the screen is still unchanged.
Can anybody relate? This is slightly annoying.

Hi,
Same here.
This displaycolor changed extremly like the position to look at it.
So its normal. For this price not acceptable in my mind.
Mine is okay whichever side i tilt it
Hi,
on my SGP611, I can also clearly notice that. I find it extremely annoying, because it's the worst when I'm looking orthogonal onto the screen. The lower half of the display (in portrait mode) tends to be a little gray/yellow tinted. This is mostly visible when reading or browsing the web, when you have a white or light gray background. On colored image it's not that much visible, would be ok for me. Also the poor viewing angles wouldn't bother me too much, if at least the color/white reproduction would be homogeneous across the whole display, when looking directly orthogonal at it. But it even fails on that. When I scroll a text page on white background from top to bottom, it looks ok at the top of the screen and then, as I scroll down it turns yellow more and more. Although, if I am tilting the tablet back a little, so that I am looking mostly from the front, the effect is less noticeable. But that is not the preferred way to hold that tab for me. I have mine for several days now and it really annoys me that much....I can't believe that wasn't mentioned in any of the reviews or in the forums before. Especially on a high priced device like this. I was already starting to believe that I've gone crazy.... 8) So I'm very glad you pointed that out. I am probably returning that thing, I've bought it for mainly reading and surfing the web, but It just hurts my eyes too much. That's a shame, as all other aspects of the device are really great and almost perfect. Maybe it's just some devices that are having the issue but the ones that I have looked at in two other stores tend to have the sames issue.
Regards,
rodi
No Problem here. I have the 16GB wifi version. No matter how i tilt the device, white remains white. Of course it gets darker the more i tilt, but no yellow or any other color is noticable at all. Maybe that means that you have defective devices and should contact your reseller about an exchange. As rodi has already mentione, no rewiew mentioned this so far, which backs up my theory of you having just bad luck.
Cheers
Chris
Glad to hear, that I'm not the only one with this problem and also that some of you don't have it. I will try to contact sony support next week.
Apart from the screen issue this thing is just perfect.
I just received my sgp612 and have the same issue. Thought my eyes were deceiving me but yes even in settings it's noticeable at the bottom half of the screen. It is annoying. I had a similar problem on my galaxy tab 3 8.0. I returned it back to amazon and got a replacement only to find out it had the same problem. Needless to say I returned that one also because it drove me crazy. Shame this has the same effect because I really want to keep this tablet.
This was the first thing I noticed after powering on the device this morning, instantly visible smudge along the bottom half of the display. This is not something I could live with so I'll likely return for another unit and try my luck...
Does anyone believe this yellow tint could be a result of glue between the LCD and glass? I know this issue was reported on various iPhone/ipad models, the Oppo Fond 7a and the Oneplus One. In all cases it was glue that was blamed. Has anyone noticed a drop in yellow with time or does anyone have a device without yellow tint?

Yea I have the black style cover, I'll porbably just shift it on ebay.
I agree that, bar the dispaly, this is an exceptionally nice piece of kit. Though, to be honest there are more display issues than jsut the yellow tint which are giving me some grief. The display's contrast drops quickly at shallow viewing angles and there is a very noticable rainbow effect when viewing the display off centre too. I have used several Sony devices in the past and every time is this display which I like the least. Also the lack of a bootloader exploit for root is frustrating, I'm starting to notice how much I relied on adbock and the xposed framework.
Unfortunately I don't know enough about display technology to know exactly what is causing this yellow tint but I have heard of uncurred glue being the blame for other devices with similar faults. I would love to find out the reason!

yellow tint issue still exist on sony new product? i have a xperia zl . i thought sony has solved this issue for the new phone.
I just got my replacement Z3TC from John Lewis and the yellow tint is still visible along the bottom edge. I think I'll be returning this one for a refund instead of another replacement.
Hi.
I just got my SGP611 and didn't notice any yellow tint.
Can someone post picture for reference?
Photo
Today I had time to make a photo of the screen. I let it display a comic strip, because it was easier to notice than with a plain white test image. When you compare the white of the bottom box with the one of the top box you can easily see the difference. I also cut out a small bit from the top and bottom and put it side by side.

For me it's very annyoing but I will keep the tablet because there is currently no alternative in the 8" tablet segment. Maybe we should contact sony about the issue?
I wouldn't say it's very easy to notice the difference. First I didn't even understand where it was.
It's more like a faint tint.
Maybe mine also have it then, will check later and update after I've checked it more thoroughly
This tablet is really amazing, I love it much more than the Z2 tablet.
I checked now as well on a comic strip, I guess there's some slight less white on the bottom of the tablet (right side when in landscape) but it's so subtle so it's really hard to notice on anything other than pure white.
I guess some screens have a stronger tint than others. I clearly remember Z1 had this issue and for my first Z1 it was pretty strong. My Z Ultra didn't have a noticeable amount, same with Z2, my Z3 seems fine as well.
But there's nothing to do about it, all phones have it. I've been with Samsung up to Note 3 and all my phones from them had yellow tint.
Just purchased s7 edge in white and to be fair I am very dissapointed with it. Light is bleeding pretty much all around the screen. It is in white finish and it just looks like the white does not cover anything at all. I understand that amoled should not bleed as ther is no edge backlight but the screen just looks horible when in bit of a dark conditions. White edges on top and bottom are basically lit up as well!
Please see this picture in pitch black on phone. Could it be faulty handset or just a white finish not covering things properly

Well it is quite clear on pictures. The white surround of the phone does light up based on the colour of the screen to the extent that majority of white bezel is lit up with white screen on. The rainbow efect on the first pictures could be seen over the bezel itself as well which is very unusual

It happens on all s7 edges. But the white one shows it the most. It isn't really lightbleed all it is that the light from the screen is traveling through the glass.

I have arranged exchange for another white one tomorrow, so we will see.
For me personally this is dealbreaker. Cannot really believe this was not reported much before for such a favourite device. Having all this gorgeous amoled screen with zero level blacks and you phone lights up like christmas tree in dark is ridiculous. Watched video side by side on my LG flex 2 and this s7 edge in darkness and the edge one is really bad with all the leakage coming from bezel. Magic of amoled is just gone for me. Hope will have better news tomorrow. Worst case scenario will have to go for dark finish one to get results I want.

The black s7 edge is the best looking one in my opinion. It's the one I was going to go for but the gold one was the only one which was in stock. I'd go for the black one becuase the white one will have the same issue.

You were right. Doh.
Received replacement and it is exactly same as the first one. I dont really know what to do. Really like the phone but I just can't get over the issue. I use the phone in dark quite often and black performance is very important for me, unfortunately it is just not good enough with all the leakage.
I am tempted to try the black one to see if issue will go away or possibly wait for Note 7.
I cannot really understand how people can live with this issue. Done more googling and it seems to be quite a common problem even on s6 edge. If that was apple it would be all over the web as another Applegate but Samsung is somehow protected. Weird.

Try the black s7 edge. The only reason which would warrant the jump to the note 7 is 2 features, the spen and iris scanner. Personally I'd keep the s7 edge because of the bigger battery. I've had every single note up until the note 5 and the spen in my case was just a showing off feature, I rarely used it. Obviously it's still your choice but I'd try the black s7 edge before jumping to the note 7.

Yes. Phillips Ambilight was first thing that came to my mind as well. Unfortunatelly it is not something I want from the phone
Received black one today.
Much better than white. Still some leaking on sides where glass meets metal but bezels covering all the light so thats good. Got mixed feelings about the phone at the moment but will see how it goes. Expected Really good baterry life but it is poor so far. Hope it will improve with few more charges. Camera is excellent. Need to get used to the samsung UI as been with LG for 4 years.
