Just got my G Pad - G Pad 8.3 General

Arrived today. No discoloration on screen, white looks pretty white especially beside my Samsung and Apple tablets.
Will have to test video to see if there is a blue line. Hoping the case I ordered (VOIA) comes in tomorrow.
Box was unsealed (no sticker of any kind).

Oh your just like me...... lots of tablets.... because you can lol, i cant help myself, i have the nexus 7 2013, the LG G Pad, the Ipad mini with Retina, and the Nexus 10, wise choice on the black G Pad, looks much better

Does the black pick up loads of fingerprints? One of the great things about my silver HTC One is that it just doesnt get dirty... Thats probably why I am leaning towards the Silver/white G Pad

Where'd you get your G Pad from, NewEgg.ca? I'm curious if we can isolate more non-blue-line or poor screen quality tablets to batches that went to Best Buy / NewEgg.com...

I do not have the blue-line and ordered it from Newegg last Monday as part of the $249 offering. Loving this tablet and with CM11 out, makes this a beast.

Got it from Newegg.ca.
The back does pick up fingerprints (as do most metal backings like the IPad Mini). It is going into a case permanently as soon as it arrives so not a real issue. It does look bloody amazing but I've dropped a tablet in the past and damaged it due to no case (a $500 Toshiba AT270) so making sure that will not happen again.
This thing is honking fast. Loaded my entire book library into Moon + Reader Pro (best Android app for EPUB's) in under 15 minutes!

My GPE was sealed with a single grey piece of tape, not sure why LG isnt sealing some.

My box didn't even have a sticker on it. The box does display a white tablet though so perhaps that is why they were left open.

Can you please post a pic with your G Tab and the other tablets displaying a screen that has a white background so we can see how white it is versus the others? Kind of like I did below.

Sure. I'll get out the good camera. My point and shoot Sony will have trouble capturing colors.

Here is a shot. Samsung Tab 3 8.0 on left, IPad Mini (first gen) centre, and LG on right.
It has a warmer tone than either tablet but by itself the screen depicts white quite well. I have never run the Samsung or Mini at full brightness as I find them too bright.

Thank you. Yours looks very similar to mine. My problem is that I use a G2 that is tuned really cool so it makes the G Tab look extra bad to me. If you notice, even the gray tabs for chrome look a little dingy. It has left me extremely disappointed with the G Tab. Hopefully since they have released a GPE edition we will be able to adjust the gamma and saturation. Thanks again for doing that. I have a feeling that all the people that think they have defective units due to a yellow screen, really just prefer the cool look. I noticed in the pics on droid-life today on the GPE edition, their unit has dingy whites too. http://www.droid-life.com/2013/12/12/unboxing-and-hands-on-lg-g-pad-8-3-google-play-edition/

My GPE is calibrated almost the same as N5 screen, it is warm, compared to the G2 it is really warm as the G2 is really cool...

Btw, I just ran a video for almost 40 minutes using the default player and no blue line showed up. Also no dead or stuck pixels.
I just compared it to the Mini 2 and it is actually brighter. The Mini 2 is less bright than the original (battery conservation).
Seeing as I have been running the Samsung at 45% brightness, the LG needs about 65% to be comparable which is fine.
Not really concerned about battery life when on the go.
Got one of these at Memory Express on Black Friday sale.
PNY Powerpack Dual 5200 mAh.
$20 on sale free shipping. I have a lower mAh unit that I use with my Samsung (3200 mAh from Logisys). Gives me roughly another 7-8 hours of charge full use (watching video) and recharges the tablet while in use.
This one will charge two devices at once and has rapid charge. Should provide 10-12 hours of additional power to a tablet.

Thanks for the info. I definitely prefer the cooler look. Does your GPE run hot? My CPU temp hit 165° the other day while playing riptide gp 2. I tried to increase the screen brightness and it gave me a toast warning.

I noticed the tab's top portion was a little warm after constant use, guessing the snapdragon 600 soc is located somewhere there. Wasn't so warm as to feel like it was overheating tho.

Sadly the GPE kernel by default doesnt allow trickster to tweak the gamma/color balance.

The Best Tablet Display

I just found this article written by someone who knows his stuff.
http://gizmodo.com/5824807/the-best-tablet-displays-ipad-2-just-got-dethroned
I disagree with him though as I believe the transformer has a better and brighter screen than the Ipad 2.
I have both side by side and the iPad2 is clearly brighter at max, dimmer at min, and less reflective...
Any one else notice that this page has a caption next to the results: "Click to embiggen chart" ?
How can I take an article seriously if they use words that were made up on an episode of The Simpsons. I guess they would argue that their usage was perfectly cromulent.
The best one is the one that fits your eyes.

Right, I almost never use max brightness.
Also Transformer has 1.3 times more the number of iPad 2 pixels.
This guy knows his stuff, so I'd not be inclined to argue with him. However, I'll say this: the screen on my TF is outstanding, regardless of whether or not some other screen is better. It's like cars: I love my Infiniti G37, even though there are demonstrably better-performing cars available. And indeed, one of the things that I love about the G37 is that I paid $15K less for it than the equivalent BMW, and have 95% of the performance. That's an equation that I can live with quite happily...

ive seen other review of the screen(cant remember where) by a guy who knows alot about photography, he did all this measurement on the color and white balance on the k scale, and has said if your into professional photo applications the transformers screen is the best as it produces very accurate colors, also samsung had put a screen driver ontop of the tegra 2 one to over saturate colors to make the screen appear more vibrant but if your looking for image accuracy its a bad screen for that

I have done measurement of the transformer and iPad and find that both units have some inaccuracy, but are pretty close to the actual values when displaying a sample color panel. I would give a nod to Transformer for warmer (red and orange) colors and the iPad to colder (blues) colors. Both are miles more accurate than the Samsung which is dramatically over saturated.
My iPad's screen is too warm, and my TF's screen is too cool.
It's a bit frustrating.

Yeah, the color accuracy is great on this screen. It almost makes it painful to go back to my laptop.
Never have thought the TF had the best screen, way too many issues with light leak to even be considered. It looks aight though.

The Ipad is known for having light lead issues as well; it seems to be a "feature" of IPS panels. That does nothing, however, to detract from the fundamental quality of the screen when any light leakage isn't apparent (as in 100% of my own use, since I might have leakage but haven't even noticed it).

Tablets really need to have color profiles and brightness and contrast like you do on a Mac or PC. Then you could use a hardware calibrator to create a customize profile for the specific of your own display. I do this on all my laptops and desktop monitors and the results are very nice. The only downside is the calibrator hardware and software cost $250+.
i just had my screen replaced under warranty by asus for a white spot (backlight leak).
unless i'm imagining it, the new screen seems to be warmer and not quite so bright as the one it replaced
but it also has zero light bleed at the edges where the old one had quite a bit.
perhaps they're now using a different panel than when i first bought my b60 tf101 a year ago.
has anybody else noticed any variation in screen brightness/ colour between units?

I have TF101 (mid level bleed issues, I can live with them given I rarely run full brightness, never need to), iPad 1,2,3, A500, Nook Color, and a few others. IMO, ALL of the IPS displays are great, and more than safisfying. I don't compare them because I don't see the point, they are all way more than "good enough" for my and my family's casual use. If you are using these for photography or similar "on the road" and color accuracy is a concern, then you should probably get a Macbook or even better the new asus zen gen2 (which beats even the MAC displays for accuracy, check out Anand's review on the new Zen Ultrabook, drool ). My main point is, as long as your display makes you happy, who cares if there is another one out there that is better . If you are researching for a purchase on the other hand, be realistic in what your uses are going to be and read reviews that cover those uses along with reliability and customer support quality, see if you can borrow one or check one out somewhere, and let your budget and your eyes be your guide, and you will be happy with what you get.

Please stop whining about Ink Marks/Blotches on SAMOLED display

Been a lurker here in xda-devs even before i got my s2 last july 2011, Am about to have my actual s3 in about 12 hours from now. It seems the Ink mark/blotches issue is getting out of hand and some individuals are even opting to have their unit replaced/serviced because of the said issue. So its about time I step up and DID my own investigation about this issue:
Test Setup:
Canon 60D DSLR
Canon 50mm 1.4 USM lens
Galaxy S2 (SAMOLED)
Iphone 4 (LED - Just for comparison)
so lets get to the point:

Model: Canon EOS 60D
Filename: IMG_1213.JPG
ISO: 1250
Exposure: 10.0 sec
Aperture: 2.8
Focal Length: 50mm
Flash Used: No
so the dreaded ink marks/blotches on screen scandal? i dont think so
because in Normal Usage, you cant even see those blotches
comparison with Iphone 4:
additional note: I used my S2 in posting this because my s3 will be arriving in a few hours. reserving the first three reply threads just to confirm ( repeat this test with the s3)
Bottom Line: Stop complaining about it, you wont see it in normal useage. thats all.
Important discovery: using this long shutter method also uncovers screen burn of my 11 month old S2 (upper part of the screen where time is) a good discovery heheh
Test Setup:
at last someone who knows what he's saying and a proof at it...i remembered a dude here who loved to whine too much about screen displays, but when asked about proofs and stuff, kaput...brave one mate!
I had a screen burn in and an ink mark on my Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 and never really paid attention to it. I'm a phone owl who uses phone at night all the time. This problem doesn't really bother me. Yes, it's there but who cares

Nice effect with the long exposure. Try it on black with the iphone?
I know it is called screen BURN IN, but the noticible view of the notification bar isn't necesarry a burn in. Plasma TVs have this as well, it isn't a burn in but rather a ghostly remain of the previous image that is slowly fading.
Try opening a black picture with white lines for 20min, then take the picture again, it might show the black lines instead of the notification bar.
You might, MAYBE, brake the myth about amoled burn in. How cool would that be

BRAVO!!!!
Finally someone open a thread to shut up the whiners and not to join them.
My congrats to you sir.
If people find it irritating they will complain.
I have a couple of ink marks on my unit, I could put my dslr to use and grab a shot but the truth is I cant be bothered to do so.
My point is the problem does exist on the S3, however as stated above you dont see it during normal use so I'ma keep my unit.
I've never seen those on my gs2. I have a 4.5 inch one with the dreaded streaks, and it shows up on EVERYTHING, even on max brightness. That is a bigger concern. Hope the pentile gs3 doesnt have it. They are like lines on an old vhs tape, you know when you have to change the tracking to try and remove.
There's no use trying to be judgmental about people's complaints. Half the posts in threads with the smallest issue (camera jingly noise, warm phone, not perfect white) will tell the OP to return the phone. I just assume everyone on here is an asshole, including you!
cripes i love the attitude of people here...we have screen issues in the note threads and most of them uberly whine and complain and talk crap...but the ones who stuck it out are now reaping the benefits...honestly peeps...the problem is or may be there but it can be mended...lets wait for the actual s3 tests
The thing is that this problem exists since SGS1 days. Passing through the note, gnexus, etc. So you know that this problem is gonna be on the SGS3.
I have the ink marks too, i have a horizontal line about 0.5 CM long on the upperside of the screen.
In normal situation you can't see it, to see it you have to be looking right to that line in darkness watching a black image. I do that about 5 minutes before i go to sleep.
This is a non-issue for me. The problem is to the people who can see it under any light situation, i can understand them.
But if you are taking a picture in a complete dark ennviroment to find spots. Well, it's better to leave it there.....
@OP Im pleased for you that all of your marks are small and unnoticeable. Unfortunately, that is not the case for me... I have a large one right in the centre of the screen, visible without a DSLR.
And for the record. I can't see my marks either on high brightness like you used in your test. Try watching a film at night with the lights out, something with dark scenes like Tron. That's the real would situation i'm unhappy about.
I don't see why this issue shouldn't be discussed by people affected by it. Just my two cents.
Some people can and do see the spots and marks in normal use, and the fact is the quality of AMOLED screens and their durability varies a lot. This is what people are concerned about, don't generalize and say there's no problem.
Wondered how long it'd take for the complaints police to arrive here.
Agreed. Makes me laugh how the OP has basically set up a thread to whine about other people complaining. Even though some of then have legitimate reasons.
I think he was just bored because his S3 hadn't arrived yet. Ended up performing inaccurate tests on his S2 to pass the time.

i guess the point of the OP is valid somewhat for the reasons that some people here complain too much about screen problems and do nothing about it even if some able members suggest solutions...as said if you have a warranty and have noticeable screen issues then by God use that consumer right...and i hope you provide us with an accurate screen test of phones so as we may know what should be done...

[Q] Note 3 Uneven Screen Color

I know there are a few different threads about various screen concerns, but this one is specific to color distribution. Sorry if this belongs elsewhere.
I attached a picture of the Note 3 screen without any screen protector while on the dark gray color from the LCD Pixel Testing app. Apologies that the uploaded picture isn't rotated properly. The bottom-right has a purplish/pink tint to it and the top-left has a greenish tint. It's not the camera angle/picture because I took another picture of it from the same angle, but upside down and the coloring moved accordingly.
I also took a picture of the Note 2 under the same conditions to make sure that this isn't normal for other screens, and the Note 2's screen was much more consistent. I've experienced uneven color distribution on the Samsung UN46B8000 TV, but not on a mobile device.
Does anyone else have this type of uneven screen color on the Note 3?
Thank you!
Im not sure why is this happening. Im now on my third replacement and every one has this hue or tint in different parts of the screen. Im not sure if its fixable but I gave up on samsung. I just hope it goes away after some time.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to check out display models and see how the uniformity is. If they are worse than mine, I'll keep mine. Still, I think that Samsung should really work on this. I've compared it to the Note 2 and S3. All have better uniformity than the Note 3, which saddens me as I was really looking forward to this device.

I spoke to one of the tech guys at my work and he said it could be a power issue. The power source could be coming from the upper-left corner and it gets weaker as it goes across the screen, which could explain the gradient-like change in the display. If the pink is at the bottom-right for all our displays, it could be the explanation.
We looked online for a proper teardown, but we couldn't find one that showed where the screen power originates from. I don't know about this because I'm not sure if full/more power would result in a greenish-blue hue. The only evidence I can think of that supports this is that the Note 2 and S3 were overly greenish-blue in tint over the entire screen.
Does everyone affected have greenish-blue on the top-left that fades into pink on the bottom-right?
just tested mine with the app i got no tint or diffrent hue .. I've tested it on AUTO, Manual low, high brightness settings..
I have these problems since I own AMOLED devices, and that is now for quite some time (see sig.)! Me too had to exchange each device a few times until I got some with a almost perfect screen! On both N9005 I own so far the lower screen side is darker, although there are other significant differences between the two screens: the one of the second device is much more uniform! plus no1 has sharp pitch up in gamma on the leftmost 5mm over the whole side (maybe this screen has been cut out from the edge of the mother-substrate: the more from the center the better, due to principles of metal mask lithography)
I've done a few posts in regard to this in the past, if interested use the search function!

Another problem I have: When CUP is on medium to heavy load, screen brightness and contrast start to go up and down slightly each few seconds on all brightness levels, even on manual and lowest brightness! this happens on both devices, although here the first one is a little more stable! for me this happens always when in gallery for example, due to CPU load because of media scanning... Seems to be some load or thermal brightness throttling mechanism implemented (guess: in some part of the kernel)...

mine doesn't have a hue but on really dark colors (like the dark tapatalk theme) the screen color is uneven on the background.

I'm happy for you. For me, I gave up and bought LG g2 and I'm so glad I did. I just love this ips screen.
I'm wondering if it's there is edge LED lighting and the screen is just uneven.
My first one was like yours which seems very bad. Took it back got a new one, this one has the issue too, but its not that visible. I wanted to take it back again, but then i saw a guy who took 3 Note 3s back and the last one was the worst. So change it until you find one acceptable and next time wait a bit until Samsung gets better QC, or hope for another player on the phablet market.

It's probably not as bad as I make it sound. You can only see it if there isn't any light in the room basically. I took a screen shot of the battery status menu and cropped it to the all "black" part and put a black dot on it. In a totally dark room (doesn't mater what the screen brightness is) see if you can find the dot. It's pretty small you have to zoom in a lot. But using this image I can see the uneven lighting on the screen. If there us ant kind of color displayed though it's totally invisible.
I'm kind of worried about getting one that's worse too. that's what's got me not wanting to deal with it. A lot of them down here have been getting returned to best buy and Verizon because of a signal issue or battery drainage problems.

Nope. Obviously. ?
So I returned the first one and got another. This one is better but there's a big dark band that goes across the middle. It's not as pronounced as the last one though. -__-

Try this in a dark room. Using Display Tester app test card Grey #808080 and put the brightness in the screen tester to as low as possible as well as your phones brightness to low as feasibly possible. The check out the lower half near the home button. You will see it being slightly different and darker. Both mine and the wife's do it. Her's possibly a little bit more pronounced than mine. Normal, as I never notice it during day to day or night time viewing. Point being I have to go out of my way to find this so called issue.

My first one was like yours which seems very bad. Took it back got a new one, this one has the issue too, but its not that visible. I wanted to take it back again, but then i saw a guy who took 3 Note 3s back and the last one was the worst. So change it until you find one acceptable and next time wait a bit until Samsung gets better QC, or hope for another player on the phablet market.

can confirm this! and it was the same on note1, note2, ... on basically all amoled devices i owned from samsung so far!
the "problem" is the manufacturing process of the amoled screens:
they were cut out of a wafer. in the process of exposing the wafer with a light source through a FMM (fine metal mask) the exposure is not evenly distributed over the whole wafer. the more from the middle your screen has been cut out, the better it is! the gradients (down side darker, right side darker, ...) are due to the gradient light exposure of the wafer before cutting!
so it's all luck of the draw: atm i have one (!) decent screen out of 5 devices! the bad thing is: on this device the thermal throttling is comparable worse then on two of the other devices i have, but on these the display is very uneven!
so it seems to be a hard task to get a device where a) the screen is perfect and b) there are none of the other known problems (wobbly button, thermal throttling, noisy camera, ...) present!
thank you samsung!

goood :good:
I played with both the Note 4 and Edge today.
The screens on both are stunning. Everything looks a step sharper than the Note 3. The colors still pop, but everything looks more natural. Whites are noticeably whiter. Both screens are brighter too.
The metal rim is a nice touch and from a quality standpoint both devices were nicer than the Note 3. Still, they're not on the level of the iPhone/HTC devices and are probably closer in quality to the G3/Moto X (2014).
I was super excited for the Edge, but after using one I'm not sure what I think. The bent edge is really small and kind of awkward to use on its own. For most applications that section doesn't do anything. When I was using Chrome for instance it just goes black and says My Note Edge. I installed Nova to see what it did with a launcher and the result was the same. You can swipe the strip and something will come up, but there didn't seem to be a full-screen mode where normal content was stretched to that area automatically. Also when using some apps the content from the strip area seemed to overlap slightly over the main screen area.
I couldn't get any great pics (and some are blurry) but here they are:

I played with the Note at Best Buy as well. They had 3 on display, all were white.
There are very few differences from the Note 3 and S5, but that screen is just perfect. The settings menu is like the s5 except it has some quick settings up top and the background is white. The calendar and clock widgets have transparent options (the s5 has the ability to make the widget transparent). The folder icons look like the s5, but you can no longer change the color. Blue is the only option, which is pretty lame.
The phone software felt smooth as anything I've used, kills the G3. The wide selfie cam is pretty cool. Taking pictures side by side my girlfriends S5 showed only minor differences, obviously testing was limited.
The speaker was loud, no bass but definitely loud. The metal trim that's painted partially white is really sexy. The inside of the calculator app is reworked, functions the same but its a welcome visual change.
All in all, it's a damn good phone, makes me miss my Note 3, but if you use a Note 3 and aren't interested in this new display, there's really no reason to upgrade.

Very little because of the cord. I couldn't get the air command window to pop up. I did use it on the (notepad app?) a little. It does feel better than the Note 3, not a HUGE difference, but it just feels like it glides and it's more accurate. Again, I barely used it, but I do think people will be happy with it over the Note 3.
If you guys go check it out, you must watch the pre-loaded video of the people in the city. It's obviously shot with the proper equipment and does not reflect what our own videos will look like, but it just looks awesome.
I am not seeing the difference compared to the Note 3 that some are implying. Both displays look great and I have to get overly close to notice the difference from typical usage distance. Then I notice tiny fonts are more legible.
I also do not see the N4 any faster than the Note 3. Both are great fast devices IMO.
What I do notice is there is about 3GB less storage than the Note 3. That is accounting for the 4GB of demo bloat too on the N4. I sure hope that is a demo allocation issue, or the N4 would have at least 3gb less storage out of box. I think it is closer to 4gb MIA.
Note 4
Was shocked to see the Samsung people settled in BB and with everything layed out. I didn't even know any of this and was only browsing at BB and then the Note 4 popped up and that was all I was staring at for a good minute which seemed very long and then I dashed to it to pick it up onto my hand. Low and behold, the Note 4, Note Edge, at last, in person, in real life! Oh man oh man the security cord could do with a bit of extension at the least! Whatever... the Note 4 was nice in my hand, it felt so right. It looked so nice. I used to use a Note 2, until it got soaked while kayaking with only 1 layer of ziplock around it.... Forgot to do the second layer. So I'm back to my S3, phone was dead right when I saw the Note 4, so no pictures, sorry. But the Note 4 sounds amazing! The speakers are LOUD! Mind you, BB was packed on a Sunday evening and pretty loud with the noise environment. The person above said it had no bass, now that I think back, I don't believe I heard bass.... But who cares!?!? The speakers will for SURE make you hear that notification or phone call that you get from a few rooms away in your house! The Note 4 was a blast to play with! The camera selfie made me look so handsome!!! Right when I was about to snap a photo with my S3, the S3 camera looked so dark compared to the N4 camera. My phone wouldn't do the N4 any justice if I was to snap a few shots anyways! But man oh man oh man oh man! The N4 is awesome! If you don't the Note 3, check the N4 out because it might not be a huge upgrade to the N3 users. This baby is going out in the market for $825.99 w/o contract, 299.99 with 2 years contract for most carriers and damn... Do I want one for my Verizon account! For the folks out there with second thoughts on which phone to get that's over $500, this is the bad boy to go for. This is the one. Don't even think about waiting for the N5, it'll be approx 365 days before that happens. I'm still stoked! I had to leave BB to go to Costco before it closed.... BUMMED me out..... I'm still thinking about yesterday though.... Dying to go there again to play with it.
EDGE,
Samsung always want to have an EDGE over others.
the s pen capabilities turn the rest phones to FOLLOWERS.

Hi
What a pretty phone.
Posting some Note 4 photos I took at BB
Hey, everybody. I'm going to all the Note 4 general forums to post a few pics I took of the Note 4, just in case there's a person or two who hasn't been able to see them in the flesh at Best Buy, or they want to see real life photos.
Honestly I was not that impressed at Best Buy today. The overall design is beautiful. And the 2d screen thing was noticable to me. Also whites looked brighter and whiter and less washed out when compared to my Note 3. Other than that same ol Note and definitely not a significant upgrade over the 3. That being said I cannot resist the $200 trade in offer and I will be upgrading. Lol

I thought the same until paying close attention to the display with web and image content. The N3 has a grest display, but the N4 has a STUNNING display.
Still, I agree the Note 4 is not a giant leap from the N3.

Yellow tint

Hello,
I just noticed that when i tilt the screen the bottom will slowly tint, espeicially when the colour white is displayed. White will turn into a smudgy grey/yellow. The top half of the screen is still unchanged.
Can anybody relate? This is slightly annoying.
Regards
Fleischmann
same
Hi,
Same here.
This displaycolor changed extremly like the position to look at it.
So its normal. For this price not acceptable in my mind.
Mine is okay whichever side i tilt it
Hi,
on my SGP611, I can also clearly notice that. I find it extremely annoying, because it's the worst when I'm looking orthogonal onto the screen. The lower half of the display (in portrait mode) tends to be a little gray/yellow tinted. This is mostly visible when reading or browsing the web, when you have a white or light gray background. On colored image it's not that much visible, would be ok for me. Also the poor viewing angles wouldn't bother me too much, if at least the color/white reproduction would be homogeneous across the whole display, when looking directly orthogonal at it. But it even fails on that. When I scroll a text page on white background from top to bottom, it looks ok at the top of the screen and then, as I scroll down it turns yellow more and more. Although, if I am tilting the tablet back a little, so that I am looking mostly from the front, the effect is less noticeable. But that is not the preferred way to hold that tab for me. I have mine for several days now and it really annoys me that much....I can't believe that wasn't mentioned in any of the reviews or in the forums before. Especially on a high priced device like this. I was already starting to believe that I've gone crazy.... 8) So I'm very glad you pointed that out. I am probably returning that thing, I've bought it for mainly reading and surfing the web, but It just hurts my eyes too much. That's a shame, as all other aspects of the device are really great and almost perfect. Maybe it's just some devices that are having the issue but the ones that I have looked at in two other stores tend to have the sames issue.
Regards,
rodi
No Problem here. I have the 16GB wifi version. No matter how i tilt the device, white remains white. Of course it gets darker the more i tilt, but no yellow or any other color is noticable at all. Maybe that means that you have defective devices and should contact your reseller about an exchange. As rodi has already mentione, no rewiew mentioned this so far, which backs up my theory of you having just bad luck.
Cheers
Chris
Glad to hear, that I'm not the only one with this problem and also that some of you don't have it. I will try to contact sony support next week.
Apart from the screen issue this thing is just perfect.
I just received my sgp612 and have the same issue. Thought my eyes were deceiving me but yes even in settings it's noticeable at the bottom half of the screen. It is annoying. I had a similar problem on my galaxy tab 3 8.0. I returned it back to amazon and got a replacement only to find out it had the same problem. Needless to say I returned that one also because it drove me crazy. Shame this has the same effect because I really want to keep this tablet.
This was the first thing I noticed after powering on the device this morning, instantly visible smudge along the bottom half of the display. This is not something I could live with so I'll likely return for another unit and try my luck...
Does anyone believe this yellow tint could be a result of glue between the LCD and glass? I know this issue was reported on various iPhone/ipad models, the Oppo Fond 7a and the Oneplus One. In all cases it was glue that was blamed. Has anyone noticed a drop in yellow with time or does anyone have a device without yellow tint?

I would also be interested in knowing this. I will be returning mine which is a bummer because I really like this tablet. I can't keep it knowing the yellow tint is there esp. after paying a premium price.

Yea same here, I'll be calling the retailer next week to arrange a refund. I popped into my local electrical store yesterday to test one of the display models and it also had yellow tint. I think my £375 would be better spent elsewhere! Question is what alternative do I go for...

Yea I have the black style cover, I'll porbably just shift it on ebay.
I agree that, bar the dispaly, this is an exceptionally nice piece of kit. Though, to be honest there are more display issues than jsut the yellow tint which are giving me some grief. The display's contrast drops quickly at shallow viewing angles and there is a very noticable rainbow effect when viewing the display off centre too. I have used several Sony devices in the past and every time is this display which I like the least. Also the lack of a bootloader exploit for root is frustrating, I'm starting to notice how much I relied on adbock and the xposed framework.
Unfortunately I don't know enough about display technology to know exactly what is causing this yellow tint but I have heard of uncurred glue being the blame for other devices with similar faults. I would love to find out the reason!

yellow tint issue still exist on sony new product? i have a xperia zl . i thought sony has solved this issue for the new phone.
I just got my replacement Z3TC from John Lewis and the yellow tint is still visible along the bottom edge. I think I'll be returning this one for a refund instead of another replacement.
Hi.
I just got my SGP611 and didn't notice any yellow tint.
Can someone post picture for reference?
Photo
Today I had time to make a photo of the screen. I let it display a comic strip, because it was easier to notice than with a plain white test image. When you compare the white of the bottom box with the one of the top box you can easily see the difference. I also cut out a small bit from the top and bottom and put it side by side.

For me it's very annyoing but I will keep the tablet because there is currently no alternative in the 8" tablet segment. Maybe we should contact sony about the issue?
I wouldn't say it's very easy to notice the difference. First I didn't even understand where it was.
It's more like a faint tint.
Maybe mine also have it then, will check later and update after I've checked it more thoroughly
This tablet is really amazing, I love it much more than the Z2 tablet.
I checked now as well on a comic strip, I guess there's some slight less white on the bottom of the tablet (right side when in landscape) but it's so subtle so it's really hard to notice on anything other than pure white.
I guess some screens have a stronger tint than others. I clearly remember Z1 had this issue and for my first Z1 it was pretty strong. My Z Ultra didn't have a noticeable amount, same with Z2, my Z3 seems fine as well.
But there's nothing to do about it, all phones have it. I've been with Samsung up to Note 3 and all my phones from them had yellow tint.
