I just moved from an s5 to a note 4 and Bluetooth range seems a lot worse. With the s5 I could walk around most of the apartment with my g watch still connected to the phone laying in the bedroom. On the note 4 I can barely have it staying connected in the room next to the bedroom. It keeps buzzing on my arm about connection all through the day.
Anyone else noticing this or is there something strange going on with my phone? I'm on X-note stock based rom. I've got baseband flashed from the nk4 update sitting in place afaik. Dug around a bit online and I find some reports of poor range but nothing overwhelming and not much at all on xda.

hi,
i have Note 4... (N910F Snapdragon) and in my case i found that my bluetooth range in and outside is the same +_ as my other devices
(Note 2, Note 8.0, Note 3)
I connect to my Samsung Gear,, or my Bluetooth Plantronic headset... etc In house (meduim size built) i can move from bedroom to kitchen or lounge .. (then i might loose connection) about 15 meduim/long steps. Outside in a straight line also about 15steps/paces. In my case i can say i have no complaints about bluetooth
connection or distance. Quite happy.
(I do also understand that a lot of factors also come into play.. concrete wall's other? interference etc.)
Good luck
I've now made a more scientific comparison between my note 4 and the old s5. The s5 is indeed a bit better having more range. It's not night and day but it's certainly better. Most noticeable with the watch easily loosing connection.

hi,
i had issues when i used Note 3 with Gear combo.. it would lose connection whilst on my arm. (I noticed it easy as i used it for running.) but when Bluetooth was updated from v 4.0 to Bluetooth 4.1 (Note 3)i did not have this issue at all.. be it Note 3 or now Note 4
So it could be different combos or yes, your phone could be the issue
good luck
Maybe. I think the watch is the most annoying thing. Music streams fine as long as I'm in the same room and most places in the room next to it. The watch however used to work in the entire apartment pretty much and I now have the same limits as I do with music streaming. It's not extreme however and I bet few people would call it bad Bluetooth when the watch work fine in the same room and some parts of the room nest to it.

Ok- theres a thousand of these threads already but heres one more if anyones interested.
Only had device about 6 hours but these are my impressions so far. upgrading from a galaxy s. There were only 2 things i didnt like about galaxy s when first got it -lag and gps.
1-speed is incredible. No lag anywhere and ive reinstalled all my apps. phone didnt even lag when bulk installing all my apps off market, and even had a game of angry birds when phone was downloading and installing. load times next to galaxy s hugly improved. It will be nice not keep flashing firmware hoping to find one that doesnt lag.
2- gps is a huge improvment on galaxy s 1, my s 1 was fine for in car navigation but useless for my tracks that relied on raw gps data. I did a my tracks in car with phone on car seat under metal roof and the track was pretty good- a lot better than sgs 1 was winscreen mounted. Google maps indoors puts me in the correct room of the house upstares and even gets a lock downstares. On google maps it reports less accuacy the sgs but is constantly a lot more accuate in where the arrow is so all good
3 wifi- ok but sgs had stronger signal, can still pull 2 meg upstairs in bedroom same as galaxy s but shows less wifi bars.Very usable but a little bit worse than sgs imo.
4 browser is very good and fast but the check board effect is horrible- i imagine it will be sorted out in future firmware though.
5 screen is very nice indeed, nothing else to say really
This is all ive really tested for now but must say i love this phone mainly for the speed and functional gps.

The wifi signal bars aren't reliable. Some people get full speed with only one bar, others keep losing the connection with all bars . It's the speed that counts, not the amount of bars it shows. Maybe it will get fixed in a firmware update .

well if you look at it like that its as good as sgs then, nothing in it upstairs
Hey,
Ive just bought a acer Iconia a500 recently, every thing seemed ok until recently. Owned it about a week or so.
Basically my router (netgear wnr2000) is in my room upstairs, if im in that room everything is fine browsing etc.
However the minute I move away from that room the signal strength drops down, which is normal. But if i go downstairs to the living room, the connection is unusable, then it drops out takes a few mins to reconnect etc.
I've never had any problems before with any wireless devices ive got in that room, the xbox is in there currently and plays on Live fine etc. Ive got 3 laptops, HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy S, 2 iPod touches etc so I dont believe its a router issue.
Ive had a play round with the router settings just incase, put on unused channels etc
Anyone else had any similar experiences? Anyone found any fixes?
Thank
yes take it back. Mine did this out of the box on the living room i dint had any wifi i had to be near the router in my room to have any internet. Just to be sure of things get wifi eye or something like that from the market and watch the signal if it goes un and down like crazy its the A500
My first A500 did that and the second was a wake-up from sleep too much problem. The A500 is one update away from awesome, but would be nice if they patch the current issues now, rather than wait for a 3.1 update.
Some folks are not having any issues, which makes me wonder if bad batches.....
Maybe like the glue issues with iPad 2 Rush. Maybe it is bad batches...

Definitely makes more sense than a general firmware issue now, since more folks would be hollering if a general issue for all devices.
Whenever I use my phone in the car to stream music I have been getting horrible radio interference. I am in the Chicago area so I'm on 4g LTE, so I'm not sure if that could be causing it or if the phone is somehow defective. My old galaxy s2 (used that HSPA+ network) never had this problem unless it dropped down to EDGE, which was rare. I have tested it out on 2 cars so far and both do it really badly, to the point where its almost impossible to listen to music.
I am using a tape adapter (different ones in each car, both work fine) to play it through the stock headunit, and when I'm using headphones in the gym it works flawlessly, so I'm not sure what to think at this point. I have been searching around online since the phone came out to see if anyone else had this issue but I seem to be the only one I've found so far. Has anyone else had any similar issues with their s4 or 4g LTE? Could I possibly have a defective phone?

Are you plugging the phone into the car charger as well? If so, Ive seen this problem before with some car/phone combos. Its a grounding issue.

It is not plugged into the car charger.
So I have found it happens less if I have it in the center console.
Would it be possible the phone is switching back and forth between edge and 4g while I'm moving? My battery stats show times where the mobile signal was dropped and it seems to coincide with when I'm in the car, but it still gives me the 4g LTE icon on the notification bar, I've never even seen it switch to anything besides that.
This is the first Android device I've ever had that has not exhibited Android's classic Bluetooth stuttering/cutout issue. I'm coming from a Note 4 that was on 5.0.1, and previously had S4, S3, HTC One M8, HTC One XL, S2, Atrix, Atrix 2, and this is a first. I've heard that maybe Google finally fixed the issue on 5.1.1, but either way, the annoying Bluetooth milliseconds cutout is gone.
If you say you didn't have the issue, you simply do not use Bluetooth or never listened at any length to render an observation. I commute 2 hours a day, at minimum, and podcasts and music would have this issue prior to the Note5. This was in multiple cars, multiple Bluetooth speakers. I'm happy to report that the issue is gone. You can bet that I will be investigating any software updates in the future to see if they reintroduce the classic bug, but I'm pleased.
Anyone else notice this has been fixed?
PS - the Note 4 community found a slight fix for this issue when II had that phone. If the screen remained on, the audio would not cut out. An FYI to Note 4 people.

I had a nightmare with my note 4 and it's bluetooth, it was awful.
I got a Note 5 and bluetooth was absolutely awful, I had to return it and got a new one and all is good. Very good bluetooth
Having bluetooth issues with my Note 5 and an my Chevy Equinox. The phone works perfectly with all my other bluetooth devices though. I think its the car but my wife's iPhone works perfectly with the car. Who knows.
I have a thread in the Troubleshooting sub-forum looking for help with my BT.
See here.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Also - OP - what carrier are you with?
I have a nexus 6 and thinking about getting a note 5 but I have never had any issues with Bluetooth on my nexus
About every 20 minutes mine chooses to disconnect from my bluetooth speaker.
I haven't had a single issue with BT yet in my car or with my speaker at home. I use both daily.
Bluetooth on this phone (A2DP streaming specifically) is fantastic. I have had problems with horrible sounding overly compressed bluetooth audio streaming in my car (old head unit, no Apt-x or anything supported) since Android switched bluetooth engines after version 4.1. All the nexus devices (I've had a few) apparently only support SBC streaming, so this leads to the horrible sounding audio with some receivers, I presume. I just returned a Nexus 6 because of this very issue. I couldn't tolerate it in the car, music sounded like garbage. This was an issue with the Note 4 when I bought it last year as well. I don't know what Samsung did on the Note 5, but BT audio sounds pretty damn good again. I'm so glad, because nobody seems to care about this issue so I had almost lost hope. Props to Samsung for improving it.
Thats great news! I was to the point of wanting to beat my Note 2 with a hammer after every bike ride with my Bluetooth headphones! - Every time I would turn my head they would cut out. I'm looking forward to trying with my new Note 5 on my ride tomorrow.
Hi All,
Got my Galaxy Buds with the S10+. I am noticing that audio is skipping very frequently if I start walking with the phone in my pocket. Tested with Sony 1000X and if I enabled best audio quality (for LDAC) audio starts skipping. However same doesnt happen with the Sony XB41 wireless speaker. Have no issues if I use the same devices with my Note 9. Nor had any issue with the Note 8 and S9+.
Is anyone else facing the same issue?
Have updated the Galaxy Buds to the latest firmware and the S10+ as well.
Regards,
Shuvadeep
I've had my buds for almost a week now with no issues similar to yours. In fact, I wore them with my phone in my pocket for about an hour with no issues the day I got them. I have received two updates since I got them though. Try manually searching for an update, you should be up to ASC4.
My s10 plus out the box did the same thing as the OP when I first connected it with my car bluetooth. Honestly since then, it hasn't happened to me again. It would even skip in my pocket while at work. I thought it was going to be a problem, I'm not sure what exactly fixed it though

Thank you for your response.
I have already updated the buds to the latest firmware. However the issue is not only with the buds, but aslo with my Sony 1000X which are pretty high end headphones from Sony.
Not sure if this is a HW issue or a software one.

Oh I'm sorry, I misread your post. I thought that you were saying the Sony's didn't have the issue.
I would say try to rule out any interference you may have in your home. Bluetooth is 2.4GHz so you're WiFi, or other similar devices, may be causing an issue.

I have the same issue - it's only when I put the phone in my pocket and start walking. If I hold my phone, the quality is back to normal and there's no skipping. I never had this problem with my old phone and with different wireless audio devices.
Phone and Galaxy buds are up to date as well.

At home I am on the 5GHz network. I have the 2.4GHz radio switched off.
Strange thing is this happens out on the road as well. The moment I start walking with the phone in my pocket, audio starts skipping big time. I take it out of my pcoket and things are back to normal.
Oh !
experienced the same yesterday with the buds. Walked around in the street and the sound started to crack. Changed the bluetooth settings to focus on connectivity vs sound quality but no change.
I thought my app (Plex) might be sleeping in the background whilst my phone was in the pocket but no. That said, it seemed to get better as I unlocked my screen.
Anyone else ?
Do you have the latest firmware ASCA on S10+, my Buds are working much better after the firmware update

Clear the cache from recovery to see if there's an improvement: Volume Up + Bixby + Power, mine improved a lot with this firmware, reset your buds and pair them again
I've had the same problem with this phone and the S9+
Seems to be having the device close to the body. BT5 doesn't push enough power for going though all the water in the body was all I could come up with.
If I set either device on the counter I can walk all though the house, even out to the patio. Actually really good range with no drops.
In pocket walking down the road Buds drop out.
I use the ShureBT2 cable now, no drops even in the pocket. The cable is like a pendant so it sits closer.

Pretty much having the same experience. On way to work they are fine while sitting on the train. When I get to my station and get off to walk to the office, I get drops. In the office I was surprised when I dashed from my desk to the bathroom I pulled the buds out and placed them in my pocket as I expected them to disconnect anyway. After washing my hands in the bathroom, I placed the buds back in my ears, surprisingly as soon as I opened the bathroom door the reconnect and music started playing. The distance is a good 30ft through 2 thin walls and a payne of glass.

Yep the same goes for my sony xm3. Broken music ldac+optimized audio when playing flac. Its annoying enough when it changes my music because screen keep getting touched in pocket, sometimes i had to wake up the screen to fix it. Never had this problem with my note 9.

Sold off the Galaxy buds and got myself the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless and all issues are resolved.
No audio skipping while walking. Heck I even used then while riding my bike (R3) and the helmet (SOL) on. No audio skipping at all.
Audio quality is great and the buds are worth $300.
I was looking at the 1000XM3 however with the audio issues on LDAC with the 1000X drove me to the Sennheiser.
On the latest firmware, the Galaxy Buds connectivity was better than before (did a full factory reset) but didnt resolve all the issues.
One thing that I have noticed is with the Galaxy Buds and Sony 1000X, if I keep the phone on the table or couch, I dont see any audio skipping even if I am moving around.

I thought it should have been fixable with firmware/rom update. I just updated my phone to asd3 but still broken audio if i stream using ldac+priority audio quality. I guess for now i must do away with ldac/best effort to enjoy my music
