Secure Magiccode check fail - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I was able root my galaxy s4 at&t sgh-I337. Somehow when I was trying install recovery, I screwed up my phone. Now I am struck on yellow triangle. I have tried install rom-I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_I337UCUAMDL_HOME.tar.md5 via Odin but I am getting following error.
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME SGH-I337
CURRENT BINARY SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
SYSTEM STATUS CUSTOM
KNOX KEANEL LOCK 0X0
KNOX WARRANTY VOID 0X0
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0X30
WRITE PROTECTION ENABLE
eMMC BURST MODE ENABLED
START (224,1440)
SECURE MAGIGCCODE CHECK FAIL : RECOVERY
ODIN 3:07 SAYS FAILED.. I cant boot in to android os anymore or recovery. I can still go in to download mode. I do not have a back up of original rom. I had Android version 4.4.4, I337UCUFNJ4.
I want restore my phone to original or custom 4.4.2. please help..

Well this sounds familiar and I'm afraid you may have lost your MDL Bootloader as well. About the same thing happened to me and my only option was to Odin NB1 with the locked bootloader and now I'm Safestrapped for life. The NB1 Tar was the only one I could get to Pass successfully but at least I am still running my S4.
Good luck

Thanks, used odin to stock NB1 , Install safestrap and updated to 4.4.2 golden eye 49.2 rom. Hope to update to Lolipop oneday.

HELP bricked S4

I have the sprint S4. it was rooted and on stock 4.2.2. i updated it to 4.3 and it went into a bootloop. I then tried reverting to my nandroid from earlier today and now it won't boot at all, it just goes to a screen that says, firmware upgrade encountere an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again. there is a list on the top left that says,
current binary:custom
system status:custom
knox kernel lock: 0x0
knox warranty void: 0x1
csb-config-lsd: 0x30
write protection enable
emmc burst mode enable
I need to get this fixed. back to 4.2.2 or 4.3 i honestly don't care at this point. any help would be appreciated. with or without root is fine with me. i can't access recovery anymore, only download mode.

You can try this >>>> to reset to stock MF9 -[ROM][ODIN]SPH-L720 MF9 (MF9 Modem/Kernel/Bootloader/ROM-Rooted) from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2486134
Also make sure you read my post #16 in the thread above, other wise you will be in bootloop again.
Good luck

I'm a total noob and did the same thing to my phone but I'm pretty sure this is what you need to fix it http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SPH-L720 you can't use MF9 it won't work since you've updated to 4.3. It will take a while to download but just be patient and flash with odin 3.185 :fingers-crossed: Good Luck!

Might try to Odin over MF9 stock just to see if it lets you get into recovery or somewhere a little further along than download mode only.

Don't do this! Once you have the MJA bootloader installed you should never odin an older firmware unless you want to brick your phone.

Worked for me when I got into a similar situation when I went to 4.3. Kept the 4.3 boot loader, but was at 4.2.2 until I put 4.3 back on.

help me unbrick my phone

Hi.
Today I tried to flash a popular 4.4.2 google edition firmware here from xda when I gon stuck at bootscreen.
after this I flashe through odin a stock pre-rooted 4.3 firmware that worked. With this I made a twrp backup and instead tried to flash the omega 21.1 useing his installation procedure. (installing knox bootloader etc.) This however didnt work either, stuck at bootscreen.
Then I tried a "restore from brick" procedure that involved formating which was unsuccessful. Then I tried different things out of desperation and now I cant install stock firmware thorugh odin (fail) Even with re-partition and a stock pit (with the stock pre-rooted rom) A original stock file is downloading now (eta 3h). Cant use the backup.
I can however install twrp and the 4.4.2 bootloader.
In "odin-mode" it says:
current binary custom
system status custom
knox karnel 0X0
knox void 0X1
write protection enabled.
emmc burst mode enabled
Please help

[Q] Galaxy s4 only working in download mode

oh lord, bear with me ya'll.
Okay, I have a Samsung Galaxy S4-I337.
It updated over the air to 4.4.2
I tried rooting it, and it didn't work.
Now it will only work in download mode anytime I try recovery I get "Firmware Upgrade Encountered An Issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
Okay, Ive tried Kies. IT DOESNT WORK. it wants to flash me back to 4.4.2 but when I got the update I was on 4.4.2
Ive tried Oden v3. 309 and Oden v1.85
using the one click zip to fix.
Nothing is working. I am really getting frustrated.
Is there a kind soul willing to help?
Also- all the updates Ive found are for NB1, My GS4 is NC1.
Please Help!!!!
It doesn't matter so much what firmware you flash back to so long as it finishes successful. You can always upgrade again. I was on NC1 when I got my replacement phone from AT&T. I went down to MK1 to root then used updates and things to get back up. Now there is a root for NC1 so no need to downgrade.

We do not have the full Odin flashable firmware for NC1. You can flash the full NB1 firmware and then use NC1 update to get to NC1

Ive tried flashing to full nb1, it fails in odin everytime. Ive tried several different versions of odin and several different usb cords, on two different laptops. its driving me insane.
Please post the error Odin shows. That might help people help you.

You might need to use a .pit file and the firmware. Using pit files isn't always recommended but in my case my phone got screwed up and I could go to download mode and even flash firmware but nothing would happen. Then I got a working .pit file and firmware and flashed them at the same time. My phone booted up after. The pit file has to do with the internal partition on the phone. Not sure if that will fix you, but it did fix mine.

The nand write protection is enabled and I guess I need to know how to disable it?

As said above, you are suppose to flash the NB1 file, you are attempting to flash the MDL file which will not work.

Help rooting and de-bloating Galaxy S4 SPH-720T

I think something is not right about my phone. I got this this phone 3 days ago and was running lollipop 5.0.1.
I tried to root it with this guide here choosing method one, because in the about section of the settings, it said Galaxy s4 GT-i9500. After flashing the downloaded CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500.tar.md5 with Odin and it failed, it could only boot into download mode with the error "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select ..........blah blah blah".
After failing to unbrick the phone, I took it to a repair shop where they flashed a new stock rom. The model now says Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T in lollipop 5.0.1. It used to be GT-I9500 and to make it more confusing, the sticker at the back read Model: SM-i9500, SSN: -i9500GSMH. And if I boot into downooad mode, the below info is what comes up. How can I successfully root this device and de-bloat it without bricking my phone again? I didn't have to spend the extra money for flashing a new rom.

Thank you. I'm rooted now. I was skeptical at first because I had attempted a root that bricked my phone. I need to remove bloatwares and make wifi tethering work.
