Will the Touch HD have TV-Out?
yes yes it
It'd be awesome if it has tv-out....but HTC website doesn't have this feature listed
As far as I know it doesn't have TV-out.
It's not listed and something as important as that, should be listed in the specs.
Secondly, all the reviews I read or watched does not mention this.
So pretty sure if doesn't have it.
Can someone explain what TV-out is used for and what you can do with it?
TV-Out, is outputting to TV..
Whatever you normally see on your HD, you'd see on your 42" LCD.
With the TP, it's a nifty feature, although a bit limited with max. Pal resolution. The HD though, already has quite a big screen and maybe therefore they left it out, or maybe, a Touch HD Pro will come as well.. Don't think so, but still..
maybe look picture on tv
TV out is useful for power point presentation during meetings. Athena seems to be the only device with such feature at the moment. Pity that they have left this out in HD.
i read somewhere it was included......
On this site http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_touch_hd-2525.php they say it will be included.
Dont know if it´s trustworthy though.
We´ll see, simply as that..

I think the info on that site may not be right. If you examine the pictures and videos of HD, you won't find the video out port. If it is present, we should be able to see it in the pictures and videos.
The 3.5mm jack could be used for TV out as is the case with the Nokia N95.
They _could_ include it, but, as mentioned before, it's NOT listed on HTC's product pages.
So no TV-out, unless proven otherwise (pics!) .
As soon Pico Projector are coming I want TV out for sure. Imagine watching your Slingbox from your Touch HD, beaming the image on the Hotelroom wall or contect it to the Hotel TV. Make Powerpoint Presentations, etc.
They had it in the miniUSB hub on the touch pro... I really hope they include the TV-out. Else I wont go for this one..

May I ask why TV out is so important to you?
FCC design does not show the required 16 pin mini uSB as on the HTC Touch Pro.
the device is now shipped to Europe so we will know soon, but the HTC flagship store here in TW confirmed ... no TV out....
Wait and see, but do not hope on it.
HTC spoke on twitter about the HD.
They justified no buttons based on the HD being a 'Media Device'.
Whilst TV-Out isn't used a lot, it is so cool for presentations or showing recorded films whilst on a business trip in a hotel (I use the ipod / Archos AV5100 / N95 / PSP this way).
HTC are really confusing messages if they call this a media device and don't include TV-Out.
They also suggested audio on the HD is available from the 3.5" port as well as the mini-USB ... which seems a little odd. If TV-Out is there, it could be delivered from either. I'd expect the mini-USB simply because it would allow the same adaptor as is available for the Touch Pro.
I really don't think HTC think their products out very well. Always so close to perfection but missing those one or two key things - the HD already misses out on flash and 30FPS VGA video capture - even though other media devices like the N95 have had for ages - even the X1 has it.
Very frustrating.
I've asked the question on Twitter ... but it doesn't seem like HTC are keen to update answers regularly - I guess mystery around weaknesses will avoid declining interest - this certainly happened with the X1 prelaunch where they embarassingly said no TV-Out ... and avoided just about any real questions - I'm sure they filtered the requests.

HTC justifification of removing the joystick does not sound convincing to me at all.
For me, without the joystick or dpad makes controlling of MP3 programs (which typically uses buttons to blank screen, forward to next song, go back to previous song, control volume, etc) that much more inconvinient. Similarly, moving from email to email, email account to email account would be inconvinient with screen based controls.
Indeed. Yet, we now get a widescreen resolution by which many Manila apps formerly fitted for 4:3 are not stretched up or covering a bigger part of the screen, but instead have received additional controls (as is obvious with the new weather tab, but that is irrelevant for this issue).
I do recall seeing up/down/left/right buttons added to some apps but I cannot find the link. These buttons would replace the dpad but they'd have to be there in every app that really needs them, which I don't see happening. Then again, few apps supported all of the dpads functions in the first place, such as scrolling by using the touch wheel (which would have been great if it allowed scrolling in any windows list, like for example IPod nav).
I noticed that there was an iphone app for browsing the freeview tv schedule in the UK. Has anyone found something similar for windows mobile devices? Or do you know of any program that has the ability to download weekly updates for tv viewing? It would be nice to have an app for this.
In a totally separate question, has anyone found any Mpeg-4 usb tv sticks that can receive the new Freeview HD signals yet? I've used an mpeg-2 stick for a while and synced programs to my blackstone before, but would like to upgrade to a new HD stick. I've written to a few main players in this market, ie. Hauppuage, and they say that they won't have a product out until just before the world cup.
As an alternative perhaps someone knows of an RSS feed for the guide info?

The pics aren't loading on that msmobiles site for me, and I can't see that working on the HD.
And I've already scoured google to a depth of 20 pages or so with little success.
I've started attempting to write a little program to do the things I wanted with it. As I suck at programming it's going to take a while, but if I ever get it finished i'll post it on here.
I hadn't tried this site on my HD until now, but it actually formats fantastically on the HD (on Opera, both vertical and horizontal):
http://www.tvcatchup.com/guide.html
If you sign up, you can then watch the channels, but as it's flash its only watchable on the PC, unwatchable on the HD
So I barely use my A7 other than the occasional web browsing and movie watching. Anyone know of other uses from the device? Such as using it over the network to display info from a computer. Like an extended LCD monitor...
There is a program called idisplay on the market that allows you to extend your desktop screen over to the a7. haven't used it so not sure how well it would scale. or you can use a remote desktop program if you wanted to use your desktop while not sitting at it.
PocketCloud.... control remote desktop
I checked out idisplay...pretty much what I am looking for.
I have used pocketcloud, but i am not looking to use the tablet to control something, I want to push things from my desktop to the tablet display, not remote control my PC/Mac
I use RemoteDroid on mine to use it as a wireless keyboard/mouse for my HTPC. Works pretty decent, but the RemoteDroid server application that has to run on the PC is written in java and has a memory leak like you read about, eventually locks up the computer... Good as proof of concept though.
I am a paperless person
I use my tablet for almost everything. My books are there now. My documents and I take notes as well as use diagrams (mindmapper) to record meetings and give talks. It is pretty cool for the video and pictures slideshow too. I use wifi to read news and browse the net. I have also perl, python and ruby and use it to test scripts I move then to my Linux server.
Hi all,
I am on a quest(s) to find the best pdf reader, best PowerPoint presenter etc. I teach at a university and use powerpoint for lectures. I also give ppt lectures to professional groups, other universities, etc. What I am looking for is the best ppt presentation software and the ability to do the presentation remotely. I also do (with my win 7 lenovo tablet) portrait presentations, in which I have configured the table to simulate an overhead system where I can write on in "edit the ppt view" while the systems projects this to the class. So this is the back ground. I see great potential for the Note in many ways, but right now I am disappointed. What I hoping is that I can learn from you about this goal. Below I compare software that I have. I also compare with the Note hooked directly to the projector (hdmi or hdmi-vga) and with the allshare cast dongle. (*hdmi means hdmi or hdmi to vga, both direct to tv or projector). This results were a surprise and part of my current disappointment,
1. Touchshow
Needs a converter to change ppt into form the program can use
Fairly good for fonts, maintains proper style for text (e.g., maintains column width)
Picture effects like reflection works
Animation works
3d shapes work
Fonts generally ok
Good color import text and shapes
Annotation works
Terrible green background used to fill in rest of screen
Bad display resolution.
Does not works similarly with both direct hdmi* to tv/projector and the allshare cast dongle
Does not hide bottom tool bar (the one with the return, time, etc.) when using the allshare, but does in the direct mode
Loads relatively quickly
Does not work in profile
2. Office suite pro
Fairly good for fonts, does not maintain proper style for text (e.g., maintains column width) can edit
Picture effects like reflection does not work
Animation works
No 3d shapes do not work
Fonts generally ok
Color off for text and shapes
Does not import lines and arrow correctly
Annotation works
Black background used to fill in rest of screen
Good display resolution.
Does not hide bottom tool bar (the one with the return, time, etc.)
Works similarly with both direct hdmi* to tv/projector and the allshare cast dongle
It can have a problem when you start a presentation and then swipe to a previous slide or do an annotation: the slides become “warped”. If you restart it will work.
Long time to load big files.
Works for profile presentations but not best aspect ratio maintained
3. Polaris
Fairly good for fonts, does not maintain proper style for text (e.g., maintains column width) can edit
Picture effects like reflection does not work
Animation works
No 3d shapes do not work
Fonts generally ok
Color off for text and shapes, but better than office suite pro.
Does not import lines and arrow correctly
Annotation works
Black background used to fill in rest of screen
Good display resolution.
Short time to load big files.
Does not work similarly with both direct hdmi* to tv/projector and the allshare cast dongle.
There are three display choices, primary monitor, duel monitor, controller and note. The first two work the same, bottom bar not hidden. The controller and not setting hides the bottom bar and gives the biggest projected picture (seems to be the biggest and best of all the I have tried). Works great with direct. With the allshare dongle, the first slide is fine. When the second slide comes up, the first slide does not disappear and for the second slide it only show in about ¾ of the screen in the upper left so you do not see the full slide. The rest of the screen is the first slide. This stays the same for the rest of the slides.
Does not work in profile
4. Quick office pro HD
Fairly good for fonts, does maintain proper style for text (e.g., maintains column width) can edit
Picture effects like reflection work
Animation works
No 3d shapes do not work
Some font import problems
Best color text and shapes.
Does not import lines and arrow correctly
No annotation
Black background used to fill in rest of screen
Lower display resolution.
Long tome to load big files.
Hides the bottom bar but then puts in a controller for slide advance at the bottom which is displayed on the screen.
Work similarly with both direct hdmi* to tv/projector and the allshare cast dongle.
Does not work for profile presentations
Works for profile presentations but not best aspect ratio maintained
My summary. There is no one best software. Resolution and annotation issues remove Touchshow and Quickoffice pro even though they have some strong points. The bottom bar issue, the warped slides, slow to load, not 3d shapes lowers Office suite pro, Polaris has some potential. No 3d in slides and they need editing in Polaris to fix font/column issues. What is disappointing is the behavior of the allshare cast with polaris. It that worked (at least for the landscape slides) I could deal with some of the short comings of the software itself. Am I missing some setting for allshare? What else is weird is that the Polaris software in PlayStore is not compatible with our Note 10.1. Very confusing. I have an email into Polaris on this.
So I look to hear what you all use.

Hi Dave,
I do support for Quickoffice, but it seems like some of your needs/preferences make Quickoffice not the best mobile ppt for you. I recently found Softmaker's suite when looking for something for a customer who needed to work with ODF files.
They have a trial version available, so it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot and see if it meets your needs

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. Cool, maybe you can do some more support for Quickoffice as with the problems I have seen, this would not be the best mobile app for anyone wanting to make PowerPoint presentations. It has potential, though. What do you think?
I did try softmaker and it was not so good so I did not report on it.

I asked Polaris about the 10.1 and the Dongle and they told me they had fixed it on the latest version of the software but what we have on the 10.1 isn't it..
Message below.
Dear Customer,
Thank you for your inquiry.
The issue, you reported was fixed
Fixed version would be released on “4.0.5002.30”.
Your version is 4.0.5002.42-FJ03, so it should be fixed and work that feature properly.
One thing we concerned is below part.
For tablet, there's no integration Polaris Office version to support Jelly Bean & ICS for now.
if your Polaris Office full version name ends Odd number like 4.0.5xxx.x3, it's for ICS version and ends Even number like 4.0.5xxx.x2, it's for Jelly Bean version.
Your Polaris Office version is 4.0.5002.42-FJ03, for ICS, please downgrade your OS to ICS and upgrade next when Jelly Bean supports our Polaris Office properly. Or please ask Samsung customer service center whether they have integration Polaris Office version or not.
After downgrade your OS to ICS and there’s same issue, please contact us again.
We will try hard to repay you for all your kindness.
Thanks for your interest.

Well I have still not heard back. I sent them the review I did and comments about Polaris. Did you send to support. As for the message from them it is as some point out hard to know exactly what we should do. I already got the answer from Samsung as I pointed out. I still do not know why the version on Play Store in not compatible with any of my devices: Note 10.1 with JB; HP touchpad with ICS (retired); HTC HD2 with JB. Weird.

Great summary - my exact experience over the past few months of doing presentations with my Note 10.1 When Polaris actually worked (I have the screen refresh issue now, but didn't on ICS) that worked great with the Dongle and being able to markup my slides. Of course then the controller + notes option didn't work. For me any software that could at least do a simple slide, allow for markups and have controller + notes would be sufficient. Sadly there isn't even anything that can do that.
So what I use - Sadly I find myself using SplashTop Whiteboard to remote control a PC which at least gives working display and markup abilities. Depressing because I don't need AllShare Cast, or my Note 10.1 for that... could still use my Transformer TF101 for that. Otherwise I just pick one of those same software programs you mentioned based on whatever one's shortcomings has the least impact for any given presentation.
I've tried SoftMaker - don't have a detailed review but don't like the interface and know it doesn't do controller + notes view.

thanks,
I do not have much hope at this. I just received an email from Polaris wanting me to restate the problem. I did and also sent them an image of what I mean as well as a short ppt for them to test.
I think that android ppt programs should concentrate on being a fantastic projection device and not worry a lot about in depth editing. The editing can be done via PC. The android software just needs to accurately impart the ppt and project it well. However, the various makers of the software need to hustle as the new Windows based tablets with the same form factor come out, I suspect the serious ppt users will go to this win platform. That is why I think presentation with inking is the key for Android PPT software.
