Sadly said goodbye to my xoom. - Xoom General

Sadly said goodbye to my xoom yesterday, 3 years and it never let me down, yet it was time to move on so i traded in both my xoom and my acer iconia a1-830 for a Sony Xperia Tablet Z. I may buy another xoom in the future for nostalgia and rom testing purposes, but for now it's farewell.
A huge thank you to all the great Devs who support this amazing device, and to the fellow xoom lovers whom i have spent time with in these threads. over the last few years, i will still be here in the background watching developments.
All the best folks.

Hope you have better luck with the Sony than I have.
I thought it was time to move on from the faithful old Xoom about October last year and bought a Xperia Z2 tablet.
The Sony was great to use for a couple of weeks until it flamed out after an OTA software update.
Sent it back to Sony for repair - they reflashed it and sent it back.
Lasted exactly 3 days that time - same problem, would not switch on again, although no OTA involved this time.
Finally got it back again today and it appears they have replaced the main board and battery.
Switches on OK so far but have not used it all yet - fingers crossed it keeps going this time.
Glad I kept faithful Xoom as a standby tablet.
In the nearly 3 months I have owned the Sony Z2 I have had about 3 weeks service from it.
Owned the Xoom 3 years and had 3 years service from it.

seems to be going ok so far, sorry to read you have had so much trouble with yours! Sadly finances dictated that i trade in my xoom against the Sony, as with you 3 years great service sad to see it go. good luck with your Sony!

My wife and I have semi retired our Xooms and they are now Sonos controllers and Video cam monitors on Docks.

I've bought another Xoom from eBay.
As I still have the original dock, and folio case, couldn't resist, it'll arrive this week. A wee trip down memory lane ?

Happy 1 Year

I would like to point out to those who forgot that it has been exactly 1 year since the Tmobile G1 and Android were officially released.
sadly, its getting outdated, which sucks cause i love my g1.
Lets make this a reaction thread. What did you do when you first turned on your g1?
i turned it on and couldnt stop smiling. i no longer needed an iphone >:]. of course at the time, hacking meant nothing to me, it was just a cool toy.
My birthday is today so the G1 was a great gift I bought for myself last year. And this phone been a gift everyday since.
I got bored with my old phone in less than a year but the G1 is always evolving and stays interesting.
That said, I can't wait until a worthwhile upgrade comes out.
I only just switched to the G1, still love it! I got the Xperia X1i when it was still pretty new, but decided to switch after several months. I'm glad I did!

Ctia = boring

Wow, not really much going on for the 1st day imo. Nothing much on anything coming soon, like in the next few weeks.
I'm sitting on my atrix which is in its box on the fridge waiting to hear of something coming soon on att. Guess I will just return it and get my $ back.
I've been waiting for news on the sgs2 our the samsung infuse. Maybe tomorrow our wed hopefully.
What are your thoughts.

I'm also really interested in hearing about the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Samsung Infuse. Hilariously enough, I went to an AT&T store to get a new SIM for my iPhone 4 so I could give it to my mom, and I asked an employee working there who had a little Samsung badge on his belt if he knew anything about the Infuse's release date. "Samsung Infuse? Never heard of it."
I was at CTIA today. HTC guy said they were going to announce a dual core phone today...Never heard about it. Suppose it's the Pyramid. The booth guy really didn't know very much.
Did go by the Motorola booth and jokingly complain about the Skype, Fake 4G, and other things. The guys just all grinned and blamed it on AT&T.
Galaxy S II no one at the booth would say anything about when it was coming to US.
Playstation phone was nice. Got to see an Arc (from an ericsson guys pocket) it was nice but kind of meh.
All in all I agree I have sore feet and not much else to show for my efforts.
If I had been feeling particularly malicious I would have connected my phone straight to a HDMI cord sans dock and showed the Moto guys what's been done to the phone, but I didn't.
I had the best time at the Nokia booth though. People were really friendly, and down to earth. Had a grea time chatting with a booth guy that was really knowledgeable and we both decided we hope the best comes out of the WP7 deal. I tried to get him to open up about a new "Meego" type phone but he just smiled.
Tomorrow is my last day to return the Atrix and I guess I'm keeping it.
See I had to pay full 535 for it and it just rankles me that I at times feel due to the various issues I'm not getting nor will get the full moneys worth.
Buyers remorse from too much time reading forums I guess.

Me too, same dilemma. I want a SGS II SO bad, but no idea when its being released is so off-putting. i can't wait around in limbo for 2, 3, 4 months. I paid full price for my Atrix as well and am contemplating returning it or not. I'll only get $495 of the $530 i paid though back ($35 re-stocking fee). Hoping CTIA would bring me a reason to take it back, but unfortunately nothing yet.
Well I rationalize that since. I love the phone even with all its flaws I'll enjoy it as is.
Work pays for my base phone bill & data plan so it's like getting the phone for free.

First Kal El is Asus Transformer 2

Just saw this article and figured you guys would be interested!

I hope the dock works both ways, because I'll definitely be getting one (instead of *maybe*).

for a second there it sounded like you picked up your TF 3, weeks ago before returning back to 2011 from 2012, so you can use it longer before the world blows up.
Thats what the hispanic guy said at the back of the truck. Seemed Legit
As I just brought mine last week. What should I do?

Nothing.
The device you have does what you bought it for I assume, so why worry?
Bought mine 4 weeks ago... and it is almost outdated? Damn! Can't keep up with this!
TF 2 could be buggy as **** so hang on to the one that works well. That's my rational behind keeping the one that i just bought a few days. That and I sell things on craigslist often.
Hopefully the new TF wont be as poorly produced as the original one.
Yeah, god forbid a mass produced piece of technology produced over seas have any flaws just like every other piece of technological hardware out currently. We Americans want what we pay for gosh darnit!
Nice. Just another reason for me to not go get akeyboard dock. If it doesn't work with the TF 2, I'll be pissed.
It's been said earlier that it will be the same price as the OG Transformer. Hopefully that $399 price tag stays true. I think that if it is true, Asus should have a trade-in program, we give them our TF1, they give us the TF2. Am I right or what?

Maybe in a dream world. That would be beneficial for us, but no one else. It would raise the price for everyone else since they don't make much cash off it any way.
I was just going to gift my TF when the TF2 comes out.
The keyboard not working would be sad because they said it should continue to work with the TF line. However I bought the TF because I wanted it. If they replace everything, well, that's how this works isn't it? I will probably just whine until I can afford to buy a whole new set up and give the old one to my sister.
I'm pretty happy with my current TF. I'll let the TF2 come out and bugs be worked out before I hop on that train.
Will definitely wait to purchase another tablet. The TF is my very first tablet so its been a learning experience. This forum has also taught me plenty.
Not sure if Asus is my next buy, but whatever i choose, i will do so only if it has great video playback, netflix, great Quality ASsurance, etc.
Plus, i wont be first time adopter again..
Ill practice some patience next time.lol
Pretty happy with the TF, probably won't upgrade until Fall of 2012-2013. By then the TF3 will be out haha
Don't worry, and don't hurry!
There is a reason that all current android pads are based on the Nvidia chipset, Google made honeycomb on the Xoom as reference platform.
This will be different next year.. This time Texas Instruments will be google's partner. The first tablets will come Q1\Q2 2012...
Ok, Tegra3 will outperform the Tegra2 by far ...
but the advantages of a TI tablet will probably be way better than that , think of features and compatibility with upcoming android version(s)
This is why Nvidia is rushing with the tegra3 platform! They want to be first...
It's not smart , considering all the stores have tons of tegra2 devices in stock, they won't be sellable for a decent price within a few months. (tegra3 devices will be sold for the same price as current tegra2 devices)
Anyways, some serious price-wars next year... i will wait for the TI vs Nvidia rivalry next year
Let them fight first, we will win the battle (cheap hardware! )

Asus said the dock would work with future version somewhere. i cant remember where exactly but it was a question when someone asked them when they first released it
One thing is certain..
dont buy HP touchpad.. (well..actually as a media only device at cheap price....hmmmm)

You have served me well, nexus one.

To be honest, I really like this phone a lot. However, after serving me for almost three years, it's time for it to take a long rest.
I hope the phone that I bought today, Nexus 4, can give me the same excitement as Nexus One gave me.
I have just sold my Nexus One too but can't buy a Nexus 4... Need to wait weeks with Nexus 7 only...
I remember when I retired my Nexus One. It was a sad day. I still can't even bring myself to sell it after 8 months. I'm not sure who would buy it anyway. I love the HOX, but nobody will ever make a phone with the same quality as the Nexus One again. Even all the new Nexus phones are built with cheap plastic. I just picked it up today and started playing with it and it still doesn't feel all that dated. It has Cyanogen-7 on it and it runs nice and smooth. Really miss the track ball and limitless LED color options. I also miss being able to put it in my pocket without looking like I'm carrying a laptop in my pocket. I think I'm going to take it out of retirement and at least use it to stream music during my workouts!
Ya I loved my n1 more than any other phone I have owned. I broke the screen about 2 years ago and tried to replace it myself, but didn't go so well. I still have my non optional n1 sitting on my desk. Seriously one of the best made and designed phones to date!

I sold my N1 to a coworker because he needed a new phone. It still works perfectly fine for him even after 3 years.
It survived my army time and a drop into a toilet.
I already told the guy that once he doesn't want it anymore I want it back.
Great little phone had a lot of fun with it and it was a good start into Android.
Mine looks like it was in a war, or jumped down some concrete stairs or something. It's almost 3 years old and I bought it this way a number of months back on here, it still works flawlessly including the power button. I'll be using it for a long time yet, cause I'm stuck in a contract with my ex girlfriends phone which she still has! If this one dies I will probably have it fixed at a little local shop here, or try it myself. i have an LG optimus one as a backup.
Kind of ironic... I just bought one to bide my time until the Nexus 4 comes out. (in case you're wondering, I'm on Sprint, and just done with them)

A drop of tear for this great great phone, that has served me for a year and a half. I regret not having bought a dock , I didn't think it would last this long. Too bad it only had 512mb of internal memory :crying:
The one thing that bugs me about this phone is when the digitizer screws up. I had an HTC desire which had no issues and I got a warranty upgrade when the menu button quit (I think because I sanded the body down to bare aluminum without disassembly) and got a one s which I liked but I sold for money reasons and traded down to this nexus one
I think its one of the coolest looking phones and the track pad notifications are awesome and it works almost as well as the desire except when the digitizer goes crazy. Jellybean is running really good and stable and no glitches as bad as the digitizer issue which only happens maybe a few times a day.
I'm still sticking with the n1 for another 6 months to a year but it would be perfect for me if it wasn't for the digitizer which made it through this whole post without messing up because I'm talking about it. Go figure.

My Nexus One is three years old now, but the power button recently broke. I bought a fix kit ($16 to fix this problem), and I'll fix it up and keep using it for just a little while longer. I've broken the screen on it twice, and replaced it for about $35 each time.
I suspect I am going to end up buying a Samsung Galaxy S III to replace it. The SGS III has a removable battery and a SDcard slot. The SGSIII doesn't have a stable Cyanogen release yet, but the nightly releases apparently already work, with a few minor bugs.
The biggest problem with the Nexus One is obviously it's small built-in flash capacity, limited at 512MB for everything. The 200MB /data partition quickly fills up unless you use an app2sd mover, though even just /data/data takes up enough space that you probably need a data2sd link setup too.
Next up is that the CPU is getting a little old for modern apps. I run so many different apps and use my phone so extensively that I can feel the CPU working to keep up.
I don't play games myself, but the Nexus One wasn't made with a GPU anywhere near as capable as phones that came soon after.
What a great phone. I'm glad I paid the full $550 when it came out.
When I get a new phone, I will keep my Nexus One and use it as an mp3 player around the house or something.
I just posted about mine in another thread and then saw this one. Yeah, I have been with the Galaxy SII for a while now and still can't bring myself to sell my Sexy Nexy. In the other thread I started I was asking what everyone is doing with theirs that have since upgraded and feel the same way about selling. I have used it as an MP3 player too, but it can do so much more, I just want to use it closer to its potential, but don't know what else I can do.
Maybe put some good voice input apps on it, attach it to the wall of a well-used room and use it as a sort of HAL system to set reminders and such that would sync to your actual phone?
I bought one recently for sake of nostalgia and received it yesterday. This is one sexy device. When they first came out, I was on Sprint, but have since switched to AT&T.
Originally, I ordered the Nexus 4 on the 13th of November. Sold a bunch of older PC hardware off to save up enough for a one. But then, we know how the launch debacle went. Cancelled my order and then bough an N7, and the original Nexus One to hold me over. I'm having fun playing with it and will probably SIM swap occasionally just for the fun of it. I love being on a GSM carrier.

[Q] Should I buy one now?

So, first a bit of backstory. I own an HTC Sensation 4G, rooted and running Android 4.2.2. I like the phone, but it is slowing down and I am looking to upgrade. Specifically, I want to get a Nexus 4 (surprise)! To the main question though, Should I get a Nexus 4 now?
Being 6 months old, I take this phone to be fairly recent. Also, having constant updates is great. Honestly though, will it stand the test of time and still be worth it another 2-3 years down the road? I mainly ask this question because I am graduating and money will (most likely) be involved for an end of the year present. Even if it wasn't, I am planning on splurging a bit. The question is, should I wait another 6 months or more? My Sensation works (for the most part).
Any responses are greatly appreciated, and thanks for taking the time!
I had a gs3 and upgraded to this a month ago and it was worth every penny. You will not regret your purchase. If I were you I would purchase one. And if you end up not liking it,you can always sell it for almost what you bought it for.

Just go ahead and buy one!! You won't regret it!
The Nexus 4 will definitely last you for more than 3 years, software wise.
Its one of the snappiest and most responsive phones out there. The hardware will definitely be fine for another 3 years. The S4 Pro Quad + 2GB ram is very good IMHO.
If you don't like try GS4or hTC1 nexus exp.
(But i didn't see the pro of GS4,1 cuz its no touchwiz, sense like smart stay etc.so its just overpriced N4)(big.LITTLE? ummm just normal 4 cores)
When it comes to "should I wait for the new one to come out?", I usually advise people not to hang on for too long. If it were a week before they might announce the new one, let's say a week before I/O, I'd say wait that week to find out, but as far as waiting 6 months for the possible release of the new Nexus, I'd say don't hold your breath. The Nexus 4 will be a darn-good phone for 2-3 more years so don't worry about that.
Besides, I actually like to buy hardware after 6 months of release if I can wait. That way, they have time to iron out all the wrinkles, to make small revisions to the hardware that they found needed changing after release. You get a more solid phone if you wait for those changes. I got mine 2 months ago and it's a great phone.
Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I've made my mind up to buy one in the very near future. Again, thank you all very much!
I too use to own a HTC Sensation. The only reason i got the Sensation was because i had issues with LG G2x. Anyway i last year around may i got the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The nexus 4 is a different beast all by itself. Yes, get is and you will not regret it.
Hopefully my exchange will soon arrive and i will see what comes out Nov. Never buying a NON nexus unless google stops making nexus
You should of had one 6 months ago when I sold my sensation! get it now and enjoy life.
I actually sold my Sensation last year for a GN. Trust me, nexus is the way to go.
Got mine today. I'll never pick my Senny up again! I love this phone

The deed is done. Thank you everyone for helping me with this decision and providing helpful advice. I can't wait to get it in the mail!
