I have a SM-N900V Note 3 that was previously rooted on 4.4.2 to gain full RW access on my SD Card for BTSync usage. I began having the "stuck in the middle" constant update attempt issues and decided to flash the N900VVRUDNK1_N900VVZWDNK1_VZW tar.md5 to take care of the constant pestering from Verizon.
The manual update to 4.4.4 worked great - but I lost root. Every method I have tried to regain root has failed. I've tried towel root, SRSroot, etc with no luck.
Does anybody know of a method to obtain root on SM-N900V Verizon Note 3 running 4.4.4???

On Verizon 4.4.4 NK1 there is no way to get root and no way to downgrade to any of the root able roms it is very likely any exploits not patched for getting root are going to be saved for the 5.0 release at this point so anyone that takes 4.4.4 is going to be stuck without root possibly for good.

???
I was told there is a possibility of a rollback if you completely erase the phone and repartition....using ODIN...
ANYONE???
What about using Sammobiles NJ6 firmware file?? It is 4.4.4.. same baseband... Im going to give it all a shot, including Full erase and repart

HA!!!!!
I went to Sammobile and downloaded the firmware, and tried it out.. No success.
I then decided to try using the little box that says Nand Erase all
Used the AP tab and tried NJ6 again, and what do you think happened??? Successful Downgrade

you try downgrade to NC4 let us know if work

4.4.4 is not rootable, you can not downgrade, you are stuck. It will probably never be rooted either...the N4 has been out 3-4 months and there is not root. Want root, want roms, buy a Developer device and never get updates or buy a Nexus.

.....
ok.. first of all, this is a thread in the Verizon section..so keep it to Verizon.. Secondly, it is for the NOTE 3...not the Nexus or any other device for that matter.. I have all of these devices, and I am aware that there are other Threads and sections pertaining to them..When I am dealing with those devices I go there. That being said, apply it.
I am sick of messing around with Odin and getting softbricks, so I will make a final attempt.. It always hangs up when it gets to the ABOOT section of the firmware flash.
I am going to try manipulationg the md5 by taking these trouble sections from previous firmware files and see what can be done with it.. a little cut and paste... I believe these to be the parts that Verizon is using to keep it from happening.. We shall see.

The downgrade path will always fail at Aboot in Odin because of the signature checks. Previous bootloader versions are black listed in the update. Trust me you are not the first person to try this stuff. Kernel modules are no longer enabled so you will not be able to modify anything...cut and paste is not going to work. I wish you the best though!!

The following file only contains the NC4 System, Kernel, and Cache. Those that took the NK1 OTA and lost root can try to see if it flashes successfully using Odin: N900VVRUCNC4_System_Cache_Kernel.rar
If it flashes successfully do a factory reset from recovery and see if the phone boots. If the phone boots then you can root with Towelroot, install Safestrap and re-update to NK1 using this method and keep root:http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3/general/how-to-update-to-nk1-root-t3013630 (if the downgrade fails, this thread also contains the NK1 Full Odin .tar file to get back to stock, unrooted NK1).
The above may be a shot in the dark but if you updated to NK1, and regret losing root, it is worth a try. For the benefit of all please report back if you decide to try.

So to be clear, you went from N900VVRUDNK1_N900VVZWDNK1_VZW (4.4.4) to N900VVRUDNJ6_N900VVZWDNJ6_VZW (4.4.4) by ticking Nand Erase all???
Next step - have your tried from your current N900VVRUDNJ6_N900VVZWDNJ6_VZW (4.4.4) to N900VVRUCNC4_N900VVZWCNC4_VZW (4.4.2) ???

I have tried to go back to 4.4.2 using the same method, and it did not work, it failed at ABOOT
I am downloading the file posted with just the kernel and system files to see if that works

This method fails due to "Kernel is not seandroid enforcing" then you get "Secure fail: Kernel" i think the kernel cannot be permissive...which is a problem

VZW Update Failed / How to Update Super SU when I have safestrap

Hey guys, basically trying to follow this guide, since I need to wipe - clean and load the new VZW update. Reason being:
3 problems: KNOX Detected in SUPERSU, Can't update, random crashes
SUPERSU has an error Samsung KNOX has been detected. This might limit root capabilities and cause annoying popups. Try to disable KNOX?
edit:I went and downloaded v1.8 and still get the knox error above.
I then went to update and it said "The update was unsuccessful" does this due to me having safe strap installed?
Help info:
My Baseband Version is: N900VVRUBMJ7
Android Version: 4.3
Kernel Version: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1 wed oct 16 18:45:50 KST 2013
Hardware Version N900V.07
On the step by step guide here is what I understand:
1. Download Odin v3.09
2. Question Which download below should I download for my phone????
Official VRUBMJE 4.3- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760975512(Retail locked N3 only)
Official VRUBMJ7 4.3- http://d-h.st/IEW(Retail Locked N3 ONLY)
Official VRUBMI9 4.3- https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B26p...LWs/edit?pli=1(Retail Locked N3 ONLY)
VZW_32gb.pit- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880936457
3. Before I install, I went to Titanium Backup and I ran a backup of my apps and SMS data, is there anything else that I should backup?
4. Is it better to wipe my phone first? Right now I experience A LOT of Lag when I open my contacts (10,000) and try to type messages in my sms folder.
Edit:Basically, should I wipe the phone, is there a way to roll it back pre-root so its as if I am intalling root on a fresh device? I have more lag on this phone now than I had when I first had De La Vega (i.e typing lag, sms lag, contact lag)
really appreciate the help!
Best thing is to use Odin. There are many many threads all over on how to use it, so I won't repeat how to. But once you have odin installed, use it to flash an official firmware. Then check for updates in settings on the phone, once booted back up. Make sure it says it is up to date (mje). If not, allow it to update. Then use kingo (check Google) to root. Then install safestrap. If you followed all that, you should be good. If SuperSU gives that Knox message, allow it to disable knox.
My personal opinion, once you've rooted successfully, install a custom rom with safestrap. That way you won't have any knox messages.

So I need to do this today, really appreciate the help.
I looked around for the threads, it seems there are a lot of threads discussing how people brick their phones after moving to Odin.
Anyway you or someone else could be a good friend and send me a quick how to? I first did:
1. Rooted with De La Vega,
2. OTA updated last month
3. Kingo Root fix
4. Safestrap to put in SuperSU and get rid of Kingo.
I take it with Odin the process is:
1. Kies / Odin??? Not sure
2. OTA update 1
3. OTA update 2
4. Kingo Root
5. Safe Strap 3.65
6. Look up how to remove Kingo
7. Super SU
Actually the best thing to do is to download the latest .tar file. It's on a thread in the dev section. I'm not sure if it has the matching .pit file with it. But if not, grab that as well. That way there is no worries about being on the current rev.
Then root with kingo, install safestrap, and update SuperSU.
Then you should be golden.

Up to you how comfy you are with this... but what I did was boot to recovery, deleted all slots, wiped system, data, and cache from stock slot. Then while still in recovery, booted to download mode and and used odin to install the current build.
Booted up as a stock rom with no issues for me, used kingo to root, and installed ss. But like I said, only do this if you feel like you are comfortable doing so. Because you are effectively booting out of recovery to download with no way back but odin.

And you can actually skip the pit file, because the one that we have is from the original build. Just make sure that when you use Odin the repartition check box does not have a check in it.

K Thanks, the only reason I was asking was since the MJ7 download was 2.2GB(N900VVRUBMJ7_N900VVZWMJ7_N900VVRUBMJ7_HOME.tar)
and
MJE was 1.4GB was a big difference in size so I dont want to install and mess it up
So I will install this one which is almost 1.4GB
ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
Thats correct right?
Would love your input.
Knox is Samsung's new fancy security software. Don't know much about it except it can get a bit wonky.
If all you use is the original ROM with root and safestrap, you got knox, bloatware, and Verizon crap. If you know how to get it "all" out, then that's fine. But a custom ROM will have all that weeded out with other tweaks and mods. This is usually the best way to go. Custom ROM's are in the development thread.
As far as you're phone running slow, I got a few things for you. First reboot to recovery and under wipe/advanced wipe, wipe dalvik cache and cache then reboot. If that doesn't help, you may need factory reset. You will not loose root by doing that.

Sent pm. But if your phone booted back up, you're fine. If you didn't use a .pit file I may be mistaken on that.

Awesome, I actually used the .pit file.... Now I am trying to get Kingo to Root... 3 tries so far no luck..
Edit: it worked it installed kingo going to go into Safestrap. need to look up now how to disable Kingo I forgot how.

[Q] First try rooting phone and now its bricked help plz

Ok so i have been working on this for hours now. I have never rooted a my phone before and i decided to try. I rooted it no problem and set up a nandroid recovery with goomanager. Then i tried to enable hotspot using QBKing77's tutorial on youtube by adding custom files in the system folder. when i restarted i was stuck at the sprint yellow screen. I started recovery mode and tried to recover my previous back up. It did not work and i think it made things worse. Now my custom recovery is gone and i tried to install the original sprint rom in adin and it keeps failing at when i gets to nand write. I have no clue whats wrong. Is there any way to erase the entire phone are reinstall everything similar to a wipe and load on a computer?
We need a little more info, what software version were you on? MF9 MJA, MK2??? This is important because once you are on MJA or MK2 you cannot go back to the older versions because of the knox bootloader. The odin error you are reporting usually happens when you are trying to install an older than MJA version on an MJA or newer phone. Make sure you download either the MJA full tar file or the MK2 full tar file and try again. It's very important that you know what version you are on before you start installing mods, this is why your phone failed to boot after installing the hotspot mod.

You may not need the pit file I would try it with out it first. This is where i got got my pit sxtpdevelopers . com /showthread.php?t=235
This is for the sprint galaxy s4 though. Don't use if you have a different carrier. Put the pit file in the in Odin in the pit tab and the Android 4.3 tar file in the pda tab. It should work then. Again I would try without the pit file first.

I've been looking so I could link you but I'm outta time! If you can still get to download mode you need a tar file of either mk2 or mja stock and then use Odin 3.07 and push it back in! i337 root help

I just picked up an S4 SGH-i337. It is running 4.3.
I tried rooting it with the Lokifyed tool. It installed Superuser, but I don't think it rooted the phone because I could not install SuperSU and it could not install CWM either.
After that did not work, I tried using Odin with Chainfire auto-root, but it kept on failing.
I tried using Odin to put the stock firmware unroot file and failed too.
Sometimes it will shut off when I plug it in.
Any ideas on getting my phone to work?
Here is an update.
I got it rooted successfully. I used Lokifyed 3-way tool to install TWRP, now the phone only boots into download mode. It will not boot into recovery nor normal mode.
Your phone has a locked bootloader. So, you cannot install custom recovery.

i also had to use deadly venom magic tool with it but it worked.
now my second rom sort of bricked my phone so idk wtf happened, im trying to get it fixed now but i dont think it is because of the custom recovery.

The ROM that you are flashing should match the base version on your phone.
If you havent yet used Deadly Venom Kitkat Magic tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680868), you should be flashing a ROM that is based on Android 4.3 and NOT Android 4.4.2.

You cannot flash a custom recovery on the phones with the locked bootloader (from MF3 onwards). The phone will still work but you will not be able to get to recovery mode.
Incorrect, you flash safe strap then there is another file posted by shabbypenguin
I'll get you the links to the forums that have everything one I get home, I'm running errands with my dad right now.
by the way I successfully Flashed deadly venom, but what you had to do is flash the venom Rom and Thenusing the deadly venoms magic tool, also flash the MDL zip file and lastly I had to flash 3 MDL files using Odin. So I flashed a 4.4.2 Rom on 4.3 mk2 and was still able to get to the custom recovery.
I tried to flash shostock and it doesn't load also the first time I flashed it, I flashed it in the stock Rom profile instead of the other profiles, It got stuck in an infinite boot loop going from SS to the stock recovery then back to SS
Give me a few hours and I'll figure out how to flash shostock after I help you fix your phones stuck booting process, I'm running errands with my dad but I should be home soon.

ok so you have safestrap installed good, now check this forum out and you need to flash this as well before flashing shostock.

then im still trying to figure out how to flash shostock ill get back to you as soon as i find out how. im not sure if we need to use deadly venom magic tool or not...
next question, is your phone working at all? did you flash shostock in the stock profile or did you create another and flash it in like the rom 1 profile?
if your phone isnt working at all meaning you cant get it to fully boot but it still turns on and tries to boot, then you may have to Odin back to mk2. or whatever you had before.
if you want to go ahead and flash back to mk2 or mf3 stock heres some instructions.
you need Odin on your computer. you can find it by googleing it or it is in deadly venoms magic tool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2680868
all you need from the magic tool is odin and the configuration file which are right next to each other.
i suggest using peazip to extract rar files btw...
peazip.sourceforge.net/peazip-portable.html
then you can find the stock files here
mf3, (4.2.2 the tar file download)
mk2 (4.3)
on the 4.3 thread, at the end of post 2 there is actually a dowload for odin availible.
now just flash it back. P.s. this WILL wipe your phone completely, if you dont have titanium backup, i strongly suggest getting it from the app store afterwards
hit the thanks button if i helped you, it'll be my second thanks.

No my phone is not working at all. It just gets stuck in the boot samsung screen. I can get it into the download mode or the stock recovery screen, nothing else.
I believe I flashed shostock into the stock profile.
How long is deadly venom supposed to take? It seems to just get stuck at SBL2 and does not go any further.
I'm not worried about anything on the phone, I would rather go back to stock and start all over.

Please do a lot more reading as your above incorrect statement will cause problems for anybody trying to install any recovery other than SafeStrap for MK2 based firmwares. If other methods worked for MK2 then there would be a thread for it. There isn't, cause nothing works as a custom recovery for MK2 except Safestrap. Reading saves phones!

The typical suspect in this case is either the USB port or the cable. It works best when the stock cable is used.

After flashing CWM, are you able to boot into recovery? If so, please do confirm you have a I337 and not I337M phone. If you have I337 and you are able to boot into CWM recovery, you should start a new thread. Because, no one here at XDA has succeeded in doing this.

[How-To] Update to G900P_OA6-5.0 and KeepRoot w/Knox(0x0)

**You can begin the following process from any Build/ROM but you must already have Root Access**
**Required** FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app.
**Caution!**The process below is only for the Sprint G900P S5 Variant! Use on any other device may result in a hardbrick.
Download:
- G900P_OA6_Stock_Rooted_ROM (File removed for safety reasons. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61362280&postcount=94)
Set your screen timeout setting to 10 mins before beginning!
1. Place the ROM onto your device (use either internal or ext-sdcard).
2. Open the FlashFire app and "Agree" to the Terms and Conditions.
3. Press "(+)" twice to bring up the "Actions" menu.
4. Select "Flash Zip or OTA" and locate and select the ROM. Leave "Auto-mount" unchecked under the "Options" menu and press the checkmark to continue.
5. From the main menu Uncheck all options under "EverRoot" and use default "Reboot" settings.
6. Last, press the lightning bolt then "Ok" to begin the flash .
The screen will turn black then display the contents of your system before beginning the flash. FlashFire will pause for about 1 minute while flashing the "system" partition. Once complete your device will reboot and pause on the Sprint splash screen for about 1 - 2 minutes before completely rebooting. Done!
Tip: for blazing fast speed turn off animations from Developer Options and reboot!
Known Issues:
- None!
Notes:
1. This process will not affect your knox warranty flag.
2. The above process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, Stock Recovery, and Bootloader to OA6.
3. As of 5/7/2015 no need to wipe prior to flashing! The ROM will automatically perform a factory data reset.
4. If you are currently unrooted and on a non-"Towelroot-able" firmware version you must a)downgrade to NE5 using Odin, b)root using Towelroot then proceed with the above process.
reserved
I'm curious to see if this works...unfortnately, i can't try it right now though.
i may attempt this later today. ive been wanting to put other roms on it. so i guess if it does trip knox, thats ok.
Has anyone done this? Success? Failure? I've always read that you can't flash firmware/modem via mobile Odin.
I am currently 4.4.4 and stock unrooted. I have to downgrade to 4.4.2, use towelroot, install Mobile Odin and then I will be able to try this out.
muniz_ri said:
***I initially put this ROM together for a User in another thread who theorized that you can update to Stock, Rooted, OA6 using Mobile Odin while maintaining your knox warranty flag at 0x0. Unfortunately he inadvertantly flashed TWRP before testing this method and tripped his knox warranty flag. I am putting this out there if anyone else that currently has a knox warranty flag of 0x0 is brave enough to try it***
Prerequisites: You can begin this process from any previous Build/ROM but you must already have root and MobileOdin Pro installed.
1. Place the G900P_OA6_100%_Stock_Rooted_ROM onto your ext-sdcard.
2. Using Mobile Odin select the ROM from the OTA/Zip slot.
3. Uncheck "Everoot", "Inject SuperSu", and "Inject Mobile Odin."
4. Select to Reboot to Download Mode then Flash the ROM.
5. Once the Flash is complete and you are in Download Mode flash the G900P_OA6_Stock_Partitions using Odin's PDA slot (AP in Odin v3.09+). Done!
Notes:
1. The above process will update your Modem, Non-hlos, System, Kernel, Stock Recovery, and Bootloader to OA6.

Correct, all G900P firmware aboots allow for downgrading to any of them via Odin. As for the above process, even though there is no risk of permanent damage to your device it would help Everyone if someone with enough experience attempt it so that we can get accurate results. There is no point in someone with little experience trying it and doing it incorrectly then reporting back that it did not work.

I can confirm that you guys method totally works! I always thought the process was simple enough but was worried about downgrading after reading about hard-bricks on the forums. I downgraded to stock firmware version G900PVPU1ANE5 and applied towelroot. I then followed your instructions and I am now rooted on OA6 with a 0x0 Knox counter. System status shows custom of course so no chance of an OTA update, but this method is awesome! Thank you!

If you are on any Stock ROM above 4.4.2 and are unrooted, the only way to get rooted and still have Knox 0x0 is to downgrade to 4.4.2, root with Towelroot, and then do your flashes.

You might want to put this in OP so your thread is not filled with questions about how to go from an unrooted Stock Lollipop to a Knox 0x0 rooted Stock Lollipop.
Edit: I can verify that after downgrading from Stock Lollipop to 4.4.2 using the link in my post above does indeed downgrade with Knox still 0x0 as MooreAJr has stated in his post.

I recently purchased a s5 international version, I need to root the phone for mirror play with my appradio. I have spent a few hours reading and trying, I took it to a droid friend of mine and he attempted with no joy. What info do you guys need from me to make thei happen. It says 5.0 (guessing lollipop)....... I tried rooting with Odin.
Thanks for any help guys
Flash TWRP then try flashing SuperSU.zip

Agree with previous poster, but you need to flash *specifically* twrp 2.8.7.0 klte......
For some reason, this version is the only one that works with some LP firmwares....
And make sure 'Reactivation Lock' is switched off before you start.

Thanks I'll try that version. I kno I've tried flashing twrp 10x. When I try to enter twrp mode it never works. It goes to the normal page. I'll do it again tonight when I get home so I can give very clear data regarding what I'm running into.
I have followed the instructions posted by others step by step and it either boots into recover mode as if twrp was never installed or freezes and goes into a boot mode flux. Wish I could just pay someone to root this phone..... I am beginning to think it can not be rooted..... Does anyone have a link for updated instructions bc the ones I'm using are from March 2015...... I am using Odin 3.09.
Did you try CF Auto Root first?
I don't see it mentioned
And try ODIN 3.10.7
He mentioned trying to root using Odin, I guess he tried CF method using the tar file.

Flashing TWRP from ODIN then SuperSU from TWRP is another way to root using ODIN
But also, some people have no clue what they are doing, and try flashing all sorts from ODIN - without CF actually mentioned, we are guessing
Even with Lollipop, you can still root your Galaxy S5 using CF Auto Root. It is flashable via Odin.
When you install custom ROMs or recovery like TWRP, make sure Reactivation Lock is disabled or else it will block any custom binary it would detect.

Download a stock firmware from sammobile.com, preferrably ANE2 KitKat build. Flash it via Odin then once the firmware works, go to Security settings then disable Reactivation Lock. You should be able to flash a custom recovery and boot to it then.
