Baseband Bricked | SM-N9005 - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Kezedy said:
Hello xda users,
today i changed from customrom (cm12 nightly) to stock GNG2 rom on my SM-N9005, because the Official Lollipop Samsung Update release is near.
I started in TWRP with fullwipe and reinstalled GNG2 with pid-file & Nand erase all. After Stock booted up, my modem did not work as usual.
i decided to reflash the correct modem and only fixed sound etc, but not the mobile network. I tried restoring EFS partition in twrp and booted stock again, but nothing changed.
Now i flashed cm12 over twrp again, because i thinked it might be a bootloader issue caused by android 5. Also restored EFS after flashing cm12, but the simcard dont work. (yes i know how to put in a simcard correctly)
The EFS is also a correct backup from my phone. I had this issue 6 months ago and fixed it by releasing the batterie for an evening.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
Thanks, Kezedy

Flash full stock firmware for your device.

What they said.....
Flash the latest stock rom for your region - I mistakenly flashed the wrong one supposedly for the UK and had no network/unknown baseband/no imei! Found the correct one, flashed with odin and it fixed it asap

I wiped the whole phone with TWRP. DONT NAND ERASE ALL in Odin3!
Then i flashed the latest original stock firmware (GNG2) over Odin3 in Downloadmode.
You also need to hardreset after flashing! Then do your first boot. S´hutdown phone and flash the latest Modem via Odin3 in Downloadmode.
That is how it worked for me finally.

Yes, according to the info show in Recovery and also the info in the Phone INFO ★Samsung★, your phone should be N900T, not N9005. Please also note that the Back Sticker in your phone is FAKE, not a original one.
However you have flashed it with another rom/firmware, so now it is not necessary to flash back to its original firmware.
You can flash with a TMB firmware for N900T, or also flash with a stock firmware for N9005.
But don't forget to flash with a appropriate PIT file (with Re-Partition option selected).

Your PIT file it's for N9005?
On Odin v3.09 or 3.10 you can try flash the Modem in this way
Put modem file on CP
download PERSIST file (on attachement) and put on AP
and put your PIT file on PIT
check the box RE-Repartition
It work fine for me :fingers-crossed:

Yes please make sure you are using the correct PIT file.

okay I'll explain you
behind the battery there is a label that reads the version of your device
if GT-N90.... I think this is a copy of the note 3 I'm not sure
For me the official note 3 begins by SM-N90 ... (for exemple SM-N9005 or SM-N900T)
if the model of your device is not SM-N9 ... do not flashed rom Note 3 SM-N9.. you can brick your device
after you find the model of your device
seeking the appropriate modem or rom in preference for your region
and if possible the PIT file version your phone
when you have found all his said we

[Q] Bricked after NE6 bootloader flash

hey guys,
i tried the new rom by civato, for this i flashed the NE6 bootloader. the rom didn't work as expected (no data) so i tried to restore the stock rom NB7 via odin.
odin said succes, but the phone did not boot. i flashed cwm and flashed som roms from there, but i always got a freeze/bootloop, even after factory reset.
so i tried a full new flash with nand erase all. flash succeded, but i could not boot.
then i downloaded the N9005ZHUENE6 firmware from hongkong and tried to flash it, but odin always fails. now i get the "firmware upgrade encountered an issue." message and can't do anything with the phone anymore.
Can you please help me?
thank you in advance!
edit: problem solved, the NE4 pit file from sajjjjjjad did the job!

Head over to the HK thread(s) and see how to restore back to normal with Hong Kong variants it's a little different (you do have a HK version I assume? and not just risked an HK FW flash?)--- You can flash via ODIN again even with that error on the device.

Very slightly yes. More to do with some HK Software issues, that's the only N9005 firmware which shouldn't/can't be flashed on every device model N9005 - regarding your bootlooping.
Grab a PIT file, sort out what firmware you use and match them, then flash via Odin, there are a few guides and it's pretty straightforward, however you need to read properly or you risk a hard-brick.

I flashed the latest DBT firmware a couple of times, with a PIT file and without, with full nand erase and without. Odin always says passed but i get no boot sound and the device gets stuck at the boot animation.
I think the problem could be the NE6 bootloader i flashed, but if i flash the NE6 again after i flashed the NB7 firmware it doesn't boot either. Is it possible to downgrade the bootloader to another KitKat firmware?

on this site i can't find a NE5 version. i flashed the ND6, device didn't boot.
so i tried to flash cwm, worked fine. then i was able to install and boot the latest cm11, but the baseband, min, prl-version, meid, imei and iccid are shown as unknown. so i tried to restore the efs backup i made via terminal emulator, it looks like it worked but when i reboot nothing changed.
any other ideas?

Hey guys,
Got a G900I from Taiwan. I live in Australia. I went to www.sammobile.com and downloaded the latest unbranded Australia rom. Went to flash it with Odin. Odin got about 95% through then failed saying "FAIL! Size".
Any idea what the issue is? I the successfully flashed the latest Taiwan rom with no issues. I can deal with using the Taiwan rom, I'm just more curious what the issue is from a learning stand point. I never had any problems like this with my S3 and flashing other country's roms.

On Galaxy Note 3, Taiwan and Hong Kong devices are NOT compatible with other stock firmwares. It is due to they have different PIT files.
So it may also be the case with the S5.

In order to flash unbrand firmware on your phone, you should have PIT file from that firmware, and flash this PIT file together with the firmware via Odin.

You can ask someone who owns S5 in this forum for help. It needs root to extract the PIT file.
in order to extract the PIT file, install Terminal Emulator and enter the following commands:
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/S5.pit bs=8 count=580 skip=2176
Then copy the S5.pit file on the sdcard.
BTW, can you upload your PIT file from your own Taiwan S5?

this is nothing but a new headache introduced by samsung, even if you have the same soc you cant flash rom from different regions. One solution to this is to use the pit file along with the regional rom which we are about to flash. Unfortunately we dont have any dedicated thread for pit file collection.

The standard Odin options and then choose the pit and check re-partition and and erase nand I think it is called. Dont have Odin befor me now but it should be named something like that. But be aware that flashing with a pit can be dangerous! Your phone can be seriously bricked so be careful!

I remember i got a similar issue with my SP GS5 with KK FWs, it was partition size not matching in my case, i didn't manage to find the the proper FW, but i found a workaround by removing the not matching partition file from the FW (it was the preload/HIDDEN image), repacked the FW and flashed it through Odin.

SM-N910F Baseband/Modem firmware for Android 5.1

Hi all, just updated the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to CyanogenMod 5.1.1 ROM. Phone doesn't recognize SIM card (I live in UK) anymore, baseband is showing as "unknown" under the About Phone section. Please can someone let me know where I can download the Baseband/Modem firmware for SM-N910F?
Many thanks!
You could attempt to download the full stock firmware by either using 'Samfirm' or the website 'Sammobile'
Unbranded Note 4 CSC is BTU but it is currently still on Android 5.0.1 but the modem and bootloader will still work fine with Cyanogenmod ROMs.
Right, I did download the official Samsung firmware N910FXXU1BOC5 from a website, but when flashing with Odin 3.09 I was getting a error. So I ended up using the customized ROM which didn't seem to have the baseband/model inside. How could I extract the baseband from the official firmware in MD5 format?

Modem
Put your phone in download mode manually (Pull the battery out and put it back in after 10 seconds and then hold volume down + Home button and power on the device) Then connect it to your PC and run Odin as Admin and flash the bootloader and modem.
Make sure you uninstall Kies if you have it installed.

Hi mate,
I have a quick question with which I hope you can help (if you have the time of course ). There is a newer firmware version for UK, which is COK3 (and O2, which is what I have), and I'd like to update to this one, but the only way I know would be to update the phone entirely and then root it again and install whatever mod rom I'm using from there. However, this would be a painful lot of work. Do you know (or mind sharing) how to extract the baseband from an official md5 release so as to update this only or as well as the bootloader? Is there any way to put the entire firmware md5 file on Odin and tell the software to update just one thing?
I saw that you did just that above and I'm having some trouble with the phone connection being lost quite often, so it would be of great help.
Many thanks in advance for your help mate!

Thanks for the quick response mate! You are the man! I still have a couple of questions though. Firstly, what's the difference between the cp and bl files in the link in your signature? I take it that bl stands for bootloader, but not sure of what cp stands for then. In any case, the most important bit I need/want is the baseband, and since I'm in the UK and my network carrier is O2, I believe the XXU1COK3 (as per Sammobile) would be my best bet, is that right? Will it make much of a difference with the XXU1COJ3 that I have installed right now? In any case, is the bl-cok3.tar file in your link the same XXI1COK3 baseband?
Secondly, that other post that you included is for a galaxy s3 and within that topic they link to a galaxy s4 topic, will those files and guidelines also work for our note 4?
Finally, I have TWRP recovery and within advanced backup I can individually backup the boot (which I imagine is the bootloader) and the modem (which I suppose is the baseband as such). Do you know if I could I install a new firmware through Odin and, backup the modem and boot, and then restore everything but those two things from an different rom backup? Have you ever tried?
Thank you for your time bro! I know that these might be a little bit of a newbie's questions but for more thar I search, I can't find anything close enough to answer what I'm asking.

Thanks for the quick response mate! You are the man! I still have a couple of questions though. Firstly, what's the difference between the cp and bl files in the link in your signature? In the bootloader and modem folders I have included the latest Odin, if you use that the 'CP' and 'BL' will make sense.
CP= Modem
BL=Bootloader
The steps should still work for the Note4.
I don't back-up and restore bootloaders or modems using TWRP.

Aah OK, that makes sense. But then the modem I am talking about is not in that list, is it? However, the bootloader is I think. Is there any chance you could extract the xxu1cok3 modem for the UK and O2 to add it to your list? ?? Pretty sure other people would appreciate it too, I know I would :good:

The modem isn't COK3, only the bootloader was.
The modem was COJ3.

Yep, that's what I thought. And the coj3 is the modem I have now (not working so well ). As I said, Any chance you could extract the cok3 modem from the full firmware to add it to your list?
Thanks in any case mate!

I don't see a point in doing that, it won't make a difference. The firmware does not have a 'COK3' modem. So I can't extract it if it doesn't exist. The O2U firmware had a bootloader of COK3, CSC of COJ1 and modem of COJ3.
If the modem isn't working well then you should flash a stock firmware for your region and apply the appropriate CSC.

Download the stock firmware for the phone from sammobile.com, unzip it, and flash it using Odin.
You flash a stock rom the same way you flash twrp with Odin.
