[Q] How to enable HD Voice aka WB-AMR? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I found out how to get into the service mode and now I see the WB AMR Settings. There I have a selection of 1-4 ...
[1] UMTS WB ENABLE (*)
[2] UMTS WB DISABLE ( )
[3] GSM WB ENABLE ( )
[4] GSM WB DISABLE (*)
I would like to enable GSM WB. The problem is, that when I press 3 all I see is another windows with a value "3" but nothing else happens.
What am I missing? How to I enable that option?
Anyone?

This is the best set of posts I have seen on this forum for the Focus yet. Thanks!
Hope you don't mind I added this to the wiki.
When you use *#2580# it brings up " Phone Integrity". Default is "ON". This is purely a guess, but if that is "ON" then possibly no options explored or mistakenly changed will be permanent. The reason for my guess is, that I explored many of the screens and changed setting and changed them back with out any negative affects. However, after I mistakenly changed phone integrity to "OFF" (option 2, on that menu) Thats when my accelerometer craped out on me. With phone integrity off and I entered the LCD TEST screen and opened the Accelerometer Test screen.
Does anyone know what " Phone Integrity " represents?
Wow, I like that this list keeps on growing. This thread deserves a sticky.
Spent about 5 hours to get the info and also updated the wiki. I want this to be the next most hackable phone.

Great work on getting all these codes. I exchanged my focus because of a noticeable audio hiss when playing music or listening to podcasts. The new one has the same issue. But the audio control utility looks like I can change some settings to minimize this. Anyone else having this issue and found a solution through this audio menu?
Any way to turn off echo cancel?
I'm finding the echo cancel during phone conversations is horrible. For example, plug in the headset/mic, if I call my phone from a land line and hum, I can't hear myself in the ear buds. But if I mute the phone, I hear myself fine.
I've only been on a few calls and I can hear this behavior ALOT.
Does anyone know what might be the setting to turn this off?
I have a unlocked rogers focus.
i can make calls and receive text messages but i get no data connection.
I've accessed the diag and when entering *#197328640# and nothing happens.
did a hard reset, and same thing.
any suggestions?

What code gets the wifi MAC address? I could swear I've seen it...
Nevermind it's *#1234#
I had hopes of boosting the headset audio by going into the root menu to section 5.2. but when I get there, no menus exist.
There must be an audio defeat occurring at the headset level for our own protection or something...

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G906 - change/enable band frequency

Hi there,
I just got and rooted a Korean version of SGS5 SM-G906K.
It doesn't by default support an LTE band B20 of 800 MHz.
Does anyone know how to enable it?
Any help is highly appreciated!
[EDIT]
After several weeks of trial and error, I decided to generalise the thread for more devices and make it more focused on a solution.
The thread will be covering QualComm SnapDragon 805 Samsung devices, in particular:
Galaxy S5 SM-G906K
Galaxy S5 SM-G906S
Galaxy S5 SM-G906L
...running on MDM9x35 Gobi discrete modem.
Topic focus - unlocking additional LTE bands.
As far as I know, additional LTE bands have been successfully unlocked on other brands however not yet on those I want to tackle.
Thanks for providing inspiration, guidance and working assumptions to following threads and folks:

Attempts have been made to edit various NV values (e.g. 01877, 06828, 06829) using EFS Professional or QXDM / QPST software.
Although some folks succeeded to make the new edits stick after phone reboot, the procedure did not result in enabling those LTE bands as of yet.
Guide into editing NV values that worked for me:
1. My phone:
SM-G906K running stock rooted.
2. Entered into diag mode from *#0808# dial pad command:
AP
RMDIS + DM + MODEM
I know that recommended mode is CP but my phone wouldn't connect like that.
3. Entered into USB debug mode,
4. In Terminal Emulator ran
su
setenforce 0
5. Connected to PC running Win8.
6. In device manager enabled hidden devices, then got my Sammy in ports COM15 & COM16.
None of them showed diag but COM16 was later recognised by NV editor.
7. I used QPST v2.7 Build 4.11 and QXDM-3.12.714.
8. Existing LTE values: 1/3/5/7/8/17.
I ran QPST, connected port 15 - it wasn't recongnised by QXDM.
I then I connected port 16, it was recognised.
9. In QXDM changed values in NV 6828 and 6829
The values stuck after reboot.
Another important aspect of controlling the phone network behaviour is through the hidden menu.
Use with extreme care & do this at your own risk
Open the dial pad
Type: *#0011# to enter Service Mode (Be very careful with what you do here)
Note: You need to be rooted for this to work
Once in Service Mode, do the following:
Tap the menu button and tap Back
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter an upper case Q and press OK
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter 4 zeroes (0000) and press OK
Wait from 5 to 15 seconds. You'll see the Main Menu
Choose option [2]: UE SETTING & INFO
Choose option [1]: SETTING
Choose option [1]: PROTOCOL
Choose option [2]: NAS
Choose option [1]: NETWORK CONTROL
Choose option [4]: BAND SELECTION
Choose option [4]: LTE Band Preference
Choose option [7]: LTE ALL (Or you can choose any band instead)
If you want to go back then tap the menu button and choose Back (Don't press the back key)
Press the back key to exit
..
Hi,
Thanks for the response. Yes, I've read the post that you're referring to.
In Androidforums I've found following instructions that unfortunately don't work for me:
Here is how you do it:
Open the Phone Screen and Type the following code:
* # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # *
The phone will automatically take you to a screen called:
SERVICE MODE
AND YOU WILL SEE THESE OPTIONS:
----------------------
[1] DEBUG SCREEN
[2] VERSION INFO
[3] UMTS RF NV
[4] GSM RF NV
[5] AUDIO
[6] COMMON
----------------------
all these options are written very very small so you will have to touch the screen very accurately to get the right one... so select them in the following order:
[1] Debug Screen
+
[8] Phone Control
+
[7] Network Control
+
[2] Band Selection
Once you Tap on "Band Selection" you will have a screen stating these 4 Options:
-------------------------
= BAND SELECTION =
[1] Automatic
[*]
[2] WCDMA Band []
[3] GSM Band []
[4] Combi Bands []
-------------------------
The Asterisk ' * ' indicates what option has been chosen, in this case the selection is on "AUTOMATIC" which is correct: the Phone will pick the best Network to work, we just have to make sure that the Phone is searching in all the Possible Networks because by Default some of them are Disabled.
So Tap on:
[2] WCDMA Band []
and on the screen you will see appearing the following Options:
----------------------------------
= WCDMA BAND =
[1] WCDMA ALL []
[2] WCDMA 2100(FDD I)
[*]
[3] WCDMA 1900(FDD II)
[*]
[4] WCDMA 900(FDD VIII)
[*]
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V) []
-----------------------------------
In my case, since the Telephone comes from Europe, the 850 Band is not enabled and you can tell that by the fact that it doesn't have the ' * ' beside it.
JUST TAP ON
[5] WCDMA 850 (FDD V)[]
the phone in about a second will tell you that the Option has been Enabled.
This is what in looking for my Galaxy SM-G906K.
Can this be done?

Thanks, really great help.
I was able to follow from UE/system settings to a menu 'LTE band on/off'. The options were bands B2/4/5/12/28.
But when I click on any of them I don't actually get an option to enable or disable those.
Would you know why and what is this option for?

As I endeavored to explain earlier, nothing in this menu is going to enable B20 for you. Most of the settings are non-persistent settings for diagnostic testing. Furthermore, the options here are poorly documented, even if you have access to the service manual and internal service bulletins.
With regard to the menu you cite, you didn't describe it clearly. I can only presume that you mean the menu below. If so, it's a non-persistent setting to temporarily restrict the active LTE band for troubleshooting purposes. Or you may have an entry that I haven't seen before as the menu items vary amongst variant models.

Hi, actually I used the following options:
[2] UE Setting & Info - [1] Setting - [2] System - [9] Next Page - [7] LTE band on/off
I see what you are saying that I cannot enable further frequencies. Thanks for your time.
I will keep looking if a modem modification is possible.
I like the specs of the gadget and will be using 3G until I find a solution. The download speed is not bad at all and Vodafone gives good coverage in Germany.

Can one of the 850MHz bands reach band 20 or part of it?
Hi there,
I'm going to buy a SM-G906 too (since the note 4 has unexpectedly emerged as 'non-water-proof'). Can you share some information on where you ordered yours and what LTE bands it has, please.
I found several different offers, some featuring just two LTE bands, some four, some five. But for all, I found so far, band 20 @800mhz is missing. Anyhow, there is an interesting statement in one of the ebay offers: It shall support LTE of three of four German carriers (Telekom, Vodafone, E-Plus) but not O2:
---> Sorry, had to remove link due to less than 10 posts; PN please, if interested <---
I found that the frequenciey range of O2 is at the lowest frequencies of all of the four German carriers:
---> Sorry, had to remove link due to less than 10 posts; PN please, if interested <---
Is it possible that the SM-G906's 850MHz band (whichever number it is: 5, 19, 26) reaches down to all those providers, but not far enough for O2?
Can you verify or deny that?
If so, I'm the luck one, choosing Telekom
Have fun with lots of 'water-proof' memory...
I'm not sure which code is right for you but you can try these codes:
- Service Main Menu: *#27663368378#
- Band selection: *#2263#
If these codes do not work on the phone dialer, install Shortcut Master app, open the menu 'Secret Code Explorer' to launch the code.

You can look on Samsung's site to find the model specs i.e. what LTE bands it supports.
To wit:
2G GSM GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900
3G UMTS B1 (2100), B2 (1900), B5 (850)
4G LTE B1 (2100), B3 (1800), B7 (2600), B8 (900), B17 (700)

Hi fffft,
what is the source, where you wit from? There might be several variants of the korean SM-G906S concerning LTE bands and what you cite even differs from that. So far, I found:
2600/2100/1800/850 (Ebay GE, Seller: supercosmos; Samsung korean users manual (just fishing in the non-korean characters))
2600/2100/1800/850/700 (Ebay GE, Seller: gnestore; Samsung korean website)
1800/850 (Amazon US, Seller: YekiTek)
The above mentioned korean users manual states frequency ranges as follows:
TX: 2500-2540 / 1920-1940 / 1715-1785 / 824-849
RX: 2620-2660 / 2110-2130 / 1810-1880 / 869-894
Due these ranges, TX is TX of the carrier (Download) and RX is RX of the carrier (Upload).
Comparing this with the four German carriers would mean:
- 800MHz: No chance at all in Germany
- 2600MHz: Telekom and Vodafone only

I don't have a submenu 7 as you apparently do (see below). At a guess, your submenu appears to temporarily restrict operation to a single designated LTE band.
Modifying the radio (modem) won't be easy. Particularly since the bootloader security was tightened in Android 4.3
The bootloader won't enable a radio flash unless the proper encrypted signature is in place. Making the most likely result of trying to import a foreign radio (or modifying the existing one) a string of Secure authorization fail messages. So you'll need to identify a zero day exploit in the OS or other creative workaround to prevail with that tack. A more obvious inroad would be to modify the NV that the radio configures as you should be able to use the nvrestore command to populate your NV content upon boot.

I also found the following in a different thread and it worked for me. I was looking exactly for this though of course didn't find B20 in the list of available bands (quote by miscom):
Do this at your own risk
Open the dial pad
Type: *#0011# to enter Service Mode (Be very careful with what you do here)
Note: You need to be rooted for this to work
Once in Service Mode, do the following:
Tap the menu button and tap Back
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter an upper case Q and press OK
Tap the menu button again and select "Key Input" and enter 4 zeroes (0000) and press OK
Wait from 5 to 15 seconds. You'll see the Main Menu
Choose option [2]: UE SETTING & INFO
Choose option [1]: SETTING
Choose option [1]: PROTOCOL
Choose option [2]: NAS
Choose option [1]: NETWORK CONTROL
Choose option [4]: BAND SELECTION
Choose option [4]: LTE Band Preference
Choose option [7]: LTE ALL (Or you can choose band 17 instead)
Tap the menu button and choose Back (Don't press the back key)
Tap again the menu button and choose Back
Choose option [6]: LTE/WCDMA Mode Only
Press the back key to exit
And that's it: You now have LTE and calls if using AT&T. This won't work with TMobile.

Perhaps my post here or a derivative thereof. You didn't attribute the source, an unfortunate practice.
Regardless, there is nothing in the service mode menu that will add bands to a given handset. The choices there are for diagnostic purposes and restrict the current operating mode.

Still a newbie here, not allowed to use links yet
I did mention the author though.
I don't have the HiddenMenu file on my phone, searched the entire memory. My phone is rooted.

Hi,
Bought mine at ebay from GNE store.
It supports LTE bands 1/3/7/8/17 but no band B20 of 800mhz.
The statement that you wrote quote is only partially correct as, say, Vodafone Germany operates mostly on LTE B20. In Frankfurt the supported band B7 is not widely spread.
There seems to be a good guidance around on how to flash NA to support t-mobile USA on Galaxy S4 however not yet B20 support for SM-G906

No need to enable the HiddenMenu to launch secret codes. You can use the app that I've mentioned here to launch the secret codes.

If you want to change band frequency, you may need to flash another baseband.

Enable 5g with CA for US S20 series for use in Europe

As per 4pda now users with Snapdragon S20 5g phones can activate and use 5g in the rest of the world.
Posting the method taken from the Russian site.
1. It is necessary to remove the white list of networks in which 5G works (it is not known what kind of networks these are, but naturally, MTS is not registered there, since the device is Asian, therefore 5G was not caught).
To do this, dial * # * # 276633683782 # * # * - [5] RF TEST - Band Selection - Sim 1 - Menu three points - BACK - Menu three points - BACK - UE SETTINGS & INFO will open - PROTOCOL - GCF - REMOVE ONLY NR WHITELIST - when pressed it will say "Removed NR whitelist". Then restart the device.
2. Instructions for activating LTE and 5G bands (thanks to comrade DeifyMe, and bright minds from XDA) 1. To access the service menu, you need to download and install from the Google Phone App playmarket (Phone by Google-Caller ID & Spam Protection) 2. After the first launch the application will ask you to make it the default dialer, confirm by selecting its blue icon from the list of available ones. After manipulating the service menu, the native dialer can be returned (Settings - Applications - 3 dots in the upper right corner - Default applications - Phone) 3. Go to the application and dial * # * # 27663368378 # * # * for Android 10 and * # * # 276633683782 # * # * for Android. After pressing the last asterisk, the service menu itself will appear
#
Note: pressing the "back" button will return directly to the dialer, to return one step back in the service menu, press 3 dots in the right corner and select "Back"
4. To turn on all LTE bands, select in sequence:
1-option 2-UE Setting and Info
2-Option 1-Setting
3-Option 2-System
4-Option 9-Next Page
5-Option 9-Next Page
6-Option 9-Next Page
7-Option 9-Next Page
8-Option 1-Set LTE Band Config
9-option 1-Set Default LTE Band
This should activate all LTE bands for the firmware country and all available roaming bands that are installed in the firmware.
To activate 5G bandsgo back (after 3 dots - see note above) until you see "UE setting menu" and 2 options "Protocol" and "System", then select:
1-option 1-Protocol
2-option 9-NR5G
4-option 3-NR5G Prune Status
Here you will see [1] Remove NR5G PRUNE option on the last line. Choose this option. If you return to this menu later, you will see * next to "NR5G PRUNE is Removed" and the line will change to "[1] Restore NR5G PRUNE" if you want to return to the original state.
Now that all LTE bands are activated, you need to enable the DSS setting. Return to the "UE setting menu" where the "Protocol" and "System" items were and select:
5-option 2-NR DSS CONTROL
6-option 1-NR DSS ENABLE
Activation of aggregation of LTE bands (thanks to Chetbiz ) Attention! Some forum users had a drop in Internet speed with this setting activated, stock option: at step 6, select item 2 - PRX DRX ENABLE Starting from the very first screen after entering the service menu: 1-option 2-UE Setting and Info 2-option 1- Setting 3-option 2-System 4-option 6-DIVERSITY CONTROL 5-option 3-LTE DIVERSITY CONTROL 6-option 6-LTE 4RX ALL ENABLE After that, just restart the phone and this is the procedure for activating LTE and 5G bands, as well as enabling DSS , completed!
You can return to the Google dialer, dial * # * # 2263 # * # * and the following window will appear, in which you can see the activated bands and other information
any update for U2 bootloader?
Hello, does it worth to change my exynos s20+ to G988U1? Is it fully functional in Europe?
I have the Hong Kong version of the snapdragon S20 5G (SM-G9180 TGY).
Can someone say whether this model must also be treated in the same way in order to function properly in Europe (Germany) in the 5G network?
This does not work anymore (so far) on Android 12 OneUI 4. tried it on my s20+,N20U and S21U. It was working prev with Oneui 3.1
I tried to do it, but except a big drop on my internet speed and the fact that it seems that i don't get 5G anymore... i don't know it's really working or not.
Plus, this all paragraph is so unclear that i wasn't able to apply it :
"Now that all LTE bands are activated, you need to enable the DSS setting. Return to the "UE setting menu" where the "Protocol" and "System" items were and select:
5-option 2-NR DSS CONTROL
6-option 1-NR DSS ENABLE

I juste never found these options on my SM-G988U1 S20 Ultra Snapdragon variant that i use in France.
If anyone can help, that would be great !
