battery issue afther root... - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys.. I got a issue and a question..
when I was on Stock firmware my battery gives me from 100 to 0 (17hours) 5h screen time
Now I rooted my stock firmware and the battery is sh*t.. from 100 to 0 (10hours with charge) ..'allost' 3h screen time
Don't know what go's wrong... same usage with data whole day on and very active.
Do I need to go back on a stock firmware without root? Or do I need to flash a custom Kernel and rom to get my battery life better again? My Knox is not tripped to 0x1.. it's still 0x0 and I wanna keep it this way..or do this nothing with your phone?
Thanks for helping me out!

S4 MK6 Help??

My S4 has MK6 (resulted from the 4.3 update OTA as I pulled it out of the box), rooted and TWRP installed.
Currently running Skyfall 4.4.2 ROM. Battery life seems HORRIBLE and the vibration is VERY week (with each ROM i've tried).
Also running the Zerolemon 7500mah Battery that doesn't seem to fully charge, but drains quickly.
The question is that if I take 4.4.2 from samsung mobile's site and load via Odin, will it lock up the phone from being rooted and
installing custom recovery again?
So far, I"m unhappy with the S4..... but it's my own fault for rooting and testing ROMs, I suppose..... but that's all I ever did with my
S3 with very positive results.
Suggestions and help guys???
Thanks

The sammobile may change your bootloader, if you stay on 4.3 your bootloader will stay MK6 which means you can use a 4.4.2 rom or 4.3 rom, if you update the bootloader to NC1 you will only be able to load 4.4.2 roms. You don't mention what baseband your on so I will assume it is MK6. You may see some battery improvement going to NC1 modem (flashed through odin PC ... twice.. you will see in the instructions) I am sure there are some near stock roms out there for 4.4.2 ... Mapleleaf is close to stock. As for battery life, it depends on what you have running on the phone. I can get 2 days on mine if I don't fool around too much. urrently 2 days 4 hours 37 minutes, screen on time 1 hour 23 minutes... 40% left... I turn off all data after 10pm and don't have gps running. You can check what is using the battery with wake lock detector, maybe you have a something that is not allowing the phone to go to deep sleep.
Thank you! Valuable info! Yes, baseband is MK6...... I'll try loading the 4.4.2 from sammboile and see what happens.........
Will post results.
Any suggestions on other ROMs for our Canadian S4? I like TW ... Can't stand the look of AOSP

Try Mapleleaf .. its 4.4.2 tw pretty much stock except the kernel I have been running it for over a month now, no reboots or issues.... probably want to update your baseband to NC1, won't affect your bootloader, just modem. It is important to follow the instructions with PC odin (take off auto reboot flag) and wait for it to finish. I flashed it twice as the instructions suggest doing so.

Downgrading my samsung galaxy s4(I9500) to 4.2.2

Hey guys i have a samsung galaxy s4 on android 4.4.2 kitkat and i am not happy at all with the kitkat update since it has ruined battery life and is causing many other problems like lag and overheating
So i want to downgrade to the stock 4.2.2. I have never rooted my samsung galaxy s4 and i am still unrooted.
I know knox will be set to 0x1 after downgrading but i do not care about it as triangle away supports galaxy s4 now .
So here is what i want to know
If i download the proper 4.2.2 firmware from sammobile according to my country(India) and install it via odin then will the process work? and if it is the right procedure does it require root ?
Is there any chance that my phone can get bricked because of knox ?
and how should i take backup of efs in case of a possible imei error ?
I know how to downgrade i9505 but i9500 Im not sure about it I never tested it out
I think you can downgrade successfully, I have a thread about how to downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3 but its for i9505 check my profile threads
You can downgrade successfully if you follow my guide, but you will lose wifi of maybe imei
So you can solve 4.3 wifi problem by downloading 4.3 kernel
You can use the same way to downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2.2
And for how to backup your imei you will need a rooted device !!
There some apps that backsup imei
Just look for your phone model "gt-i9500"
And you can backup you system starting from imei by having custom recovery like CWM and do Nandroid
And Knox will be tripped
Downgrade or Install Custom ROM

Hey dude,
I don't really understand how the s4 lags - did u try resetting the device?
the battery life is fine with the latest update.
Overheating is still there in i9500 & also it cools down rapidly - I guess its a HW design. Hope it wont be fixed.
I was annoyed with the overheating issue & now i am used to it. It heats while using 2G or 3G Internet & playing games.
Using regular apps it doesn't heats up & now i am okay with it.
Regarding the downgrade, frimware from sammobile will work fine. You will have to install via odin.
no your phone wont get bricked cos of knox - I suggest you to follow a video tutorial and do the downgrade.
But I recommend you to try a custom rom such as Omega, Hassan etc
In my experience the these roms are very good on battery and performance. Pls do note these roms (Omega, Hassan) are based on samsung stock rom.
If you still want to downgrade, I would suggest you to take it to the service center guys & they will do it for free.
Hope this helps!! :good:
Yeah it mostly gets heated while playing games and using chrome
Though i can still live with the heat because eventually i will get used to it after some time
But the lag is killing me
My phone shows lags while entering and leaving apps and camera and gallery too and it was not lagging before on 4.2.2
Also i have experienced significant battery drag
While using the internet it falls of by 1 percent every two minutes
Is this kind of battery drop normal ?
I am really missing the old firmware so i think i am gonna go to samsung and get it downgraded from there
Thanx for the sugesstion bro

I think will be not easy. You voided ur warranty when u downgraded (KNOX:0x1). No service centers will fix it (in theory) :highfive:
No Performance Lag & Good Battery Life

Hey bro,
In my experience with the S4 on Stock ROM I never experienced a lag.
Please check on the settings - switch off the gimmicky features such as Air View, Air Gesture, S Beam, Air Gesture, Motion, Palm Motion etc etc.
Settings --> Connections Tab --> NFC, S Beam, Nearby devices, Screen Mirroring
Settings --> My Device -->(scroll down) motions & gestures, smart screen, air view
Turn locations off
Check the battery graph - see which app consumes more
I had this issues when these features were on.
The phone will be always hot, battery was draining like 1 % for 1 to 2 mins.
There is no lag with camera and gallery.
Battery drag is bit similar that I lose 1% for every 3 to 4 mins on 2/3G Internet. But on Wifi battery is solid.
In my opinion battery is very solid in S4.
The latest firmware is very stable. The performance has increased from old firmwares.
If you hv rooted the device, and got custom recovery just try a custom rom.
Okay i think it would be good to try the custom rom
So i am gonna try that and see what happens

As I know, if you download an official firmware of samsung from sammobile, you can downgrade/upgrade your firmware without rooting, just flash via odin. Maybe you can uninstall KNOX first before downgrading, open KNOX mode and press menu and click uninstall KNOX. I hope this helps. Good Luck

which stock unbranded BTU 4.4.2 firmware gives you the best battery life?

Of you who have gone through all the available versions of stock unbranded 4.4.2 firmware for the s4 which one gave you the best battery life?
i eant to flash an unbranded version to my phone but it is tedious testing each one factory reseting etc
i have this msm_hsic_host wakelock which only gives me 80% max deep sleep which firmware of 4.4.2 minimises this the most? My main goal is battery improvement
Can anyone give me some suggestions which stock rom 4.4.2 gives them excellent battery life ie 90% or more deep sleep in wakelock detector?
Any suggestions please would be welcome? Which one gives you the best battery?
The latest.

Downgrade to MM from N for better battery life?

I am using exynos on N. Was getting ~6 hours SOT on MM, phone would last almost 2 days. After flashing nougat, only getting around 2-3 SOT and phone doesn't even last 1 day.
I am:
-not using any package disablers
-not using AOD
-I would say even usage of wifi/data
-all motion detection off, not very many apps doing background syncing (or so I think)
I have owned this phone for almost 1 year now, always fast charging everyday so my battery is probably very weak by now.
Should I:
1. Try flashing a custom debloated N ROM? (I've had people on here tell me they used ton of different N ROMs for months and they still went back to MM for longer battery life.)
2. Try flashing a custom debloated MM ROM?
3. Pay ~$70-80 to get a new battery?
For example I am considering flashing superman rom but not sure if I should flash mm or N.
I don't know how people are getting 8-9 hours SOT on nougat. If anyone could give advice that would be great.
Thank you.
Hi,
Since you're charging the phone everyday with fast charge and is using it for almost a year, then you have to keep in mind that the battery won't last as long as when you got the device.
You can however try to get around the aging of the phone by making use of less bloated ROMs and more battery efficient kernels, if you're not using Knox featured neither is using Samsung Pay, then since you're at the end of your warranty I highly recommend installing a custom ROM.
I do not think that the downgrade is a good solution, first because you won't be able to do it AFAIK, Samsung Knox prevents a system downgrade ever since the S4 IIRC. So unless you get a custom Marshmallow ROM that works for your current Nougat bootloader (which isn't impossible, I think most should run).
Personally in your situation I'd first try a clean stock install, if the problem persists I'd go for a Nougat ROM, because since you are installing a custom ROM, why not go for the latest and greatest instead of downgrading since you can get a good battery life on the Nougat ROM as well?
All the best,
~Lord

I'm as well having poorer battery life on Nougat than I had with MM, though 2-3 hours SOT seems to be too low.
On Nougat I get 5 hours SOT, while on MM 7 hours were the norm. Hopefully Sammy will release some update "soon" (lol, ok: somewhen...)
Anyway, what do you mean by downgrade not possible?
What happens when I flash a stock MM Rom through ODIN now, won't that work?
Downgrading to MM from Nougat works just fine by flashing official MM Rom via Odin.
I did it on my G935F because I'm using xposed which is not yet working in Nougat.
Hi,
Good to know that downgrade is still a possibility, I've read on another thread (don't remember where or when tho) that some users reported having Odin simply failing to flash a downgrade (IIRC was S6 MM downgrade to LP). Sorry for the misinformation .
All the best,
~Lord

It's really up to the phone's owner to decide. One can only suggest but everyone has its own reasons to choose either N or MM.
One thing i noticed during the downgrade, it's asking for your Google password so be sure to know it. It may also cause your phone to freeze during boot up, the solution for this is to go to Recovery and wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache. So be sure to backup first your data by using TB or synchronisation thru your Google acct or Samsung acct.
Also because S7 snd S7e have no removable batteries, be sure you know how to go to Download or Recovery mode without first turning off the phone.

Ok thanks
If doing a downgrade I would strongly recommend a factory resets as you may encounter a problem anytime since there's no downgrade migration.
Though everyone can decide by his own you should keep in mind you won't get any further security updates for Marshmallow from Samsung. In such case it may be better to go for a custom Marshmallow ROM which is still maintained (if available).
The battery management on Nougat is definitely better than on Marshmallow. You may search for the reasons of your problems...
It's not difficult to change the battery. There are some good step by step online manuals on youtube.

I want to go back to Stock (SM-G928F)

Hello @all
i run into a few Problems with my S6 Edge+ (SM-G928F).
I use it for nearly one year now with Root and Skyhigh Kernel. It started to freeze a few times a day and is in unresponsive Deep Sleep very often.
Now i want to go back to full Stock ROM via Samsung SmartSwitch or Odin. Are there any know Problems with this Method?
When I tried it nearly one year ago, someone said when the Warranty Bit is Set to 1 than the phone will stop to go to deep sleep and drain my battery like insane.
And it was like he said. So i rooted it and want to go back to Stock. Can someone Help me with this to get back?
Thank you very much for your help!
Download stock ROM for your device and flash with Odin. You can also try some other custom ROM. I am using Dr. Ketan ROM and Khongloi kernel and everything work perfect with great battery life.
