i9506 vs i9505 support - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I look for new phone, i9506 is in my opinion best phone for me, because it can record 1080p60 fps and S5 is too big and more expensive.
However in Galaxy S series I appreciate the support. By now I have first SGS and it still has daily updates. What do you think about i9506 in this respect? Will it have newer androids in next years?

Heya mate,
main difference between these 2 models is their location use, i9505 is more available in europe whereas 9506 is produced for the east...
as for galaxy s4 in general, I already own it and it works great for me, just stick with the newest official rom and you won't have any problems, keep flashing the up-to-date version for your country from sammobile and you are good to go!

POLL: I9500 OR I9505, What will you buy?

I would like to know whether you guys will prefer either snapdragon 600 or exynos powered samsung galaxy s4, what it'll do is making it easy for us to understand which one will have more development support, so i'll and many others will buy that one. Thanks
EDIT: Here is Exynos's Benchmark results and comparison with Snapdragon 600 powered S4 and other devices:
Octa-core Galaxy S4 benchmarks surface, live up to expectations
hspa+ in my area is solid plus att lte starting to slow up in my area, i am guessing due to more lte phones. the exynos 5 octa is better in every way it looks like and i prefer touch wiz to cm, it is more productive (imo). i hope to get it in new york when i am up there april 26th in one of the import electronic shops.
You wont find it in store here in the u.s. I prefer exynos chip too but im not getting it due to cost and no lte. Going to renew my contract and get s600 around release. Hoping to find some good deal offerings
I checked the SamMobile website and it said Australia is getting the SD600 but if I only want 3g/2g do I still have to use the SD600 variant. If I can choose I WILL go for the E5O version

I am glad to find that people prefers Exynos more then Snapdragon 600, obviously because it's battery efficient faster, but i guess many of them have to import it, even i guess you also have to import Exynos one from Asia or other region, because i saw Samsung has shortage of Exynos, so 70% will get Snapdragon 600, but in my country there will be only i9500,

Yeah this is bit of setback, i wish Samsung must provide LTE Capable phone for everyone, it's not there headache whether a particular country supports it or not, can't really understand these manufacturers logic these days..my main concern is only if we get very fewer number of i9500, then of course development for them will be very minimal, and in my country we'll only get i9500
As per my country I will receive S4 9400.
BTW it is related to Q/A forum.

Well i don't think it's related to Q/A Answer section, i feel it should be in General, just like every other similar POLLS on xda.
if india had a choice between 9500/9505 , i would blindly choose exynos. Its not only about the raw power, but about the big little architecture. Cant wait to test it and play around it. defenitely something different than a traditional cpu .
with a7 cores used for movie play back and call and at sleep, i strongly assume the battery would last much longer than any other s4 variants.

This is the reason why i guess people are looking more towards Exynos, i.e. longer battery life, your ideas are really helping me here, my first Exynos device this S4 will be i am searching for some leak to know which 70% countries are getting SD600/i9505, i wish Asia will not

I9500 because well, I don't have any other choice. There's no 4G network either in my country.
IF I buy one: I9505.
Exynos makes me mad, I'm developing AOSP ROMs.
Im suprised that people prefer Exynos. I started considering SGS4 when I saw that SGS4 with Snapdragon CPU will be available in my country
Team Hacksung wont support SGS4 anymore, so it won't get CM (at least not in short future). On other side, Steve Kondik wrote: "Since it's powered by Snapdragon, CM should work wonderfully on it." So we can assume that Exynos SGS4 won't get CM and Snapdragon will get it and will work very good, because Snapdragon is much more opened than Exynos. So when Android 5.0 is released in about 2 months, Exynos SGS4 will have to wait months for official update, while Snapdragon SGS4 will get Android 5.0 (CM) much sooner.
So for me, i9505 is the only choice.
I9500 as I already have htc one with SD600 not that there is anything wrong with SD600 also I dont use 4G so don't need a 4G capable phone.

no surprise here, what if they dont care about aosp? frankly the gap between aosp and stock roms are getting bigger day by day. apart from the sleekness aosp provides it is struggling hard to match the potential of stock roms(not only samsung roms, add htc and sony roms to this list).
xploidwild started a movement some time back to add more functionality to "CM". sadly i dont know the current state of that movement.
Also, the cm support for 9500 would come eventually , but its going to be harder this time with teamhacksung saying no. There are few sources of exynos 5 dual out there somewhere which might help the new cm developers.
I dont want a fully working aosp for 9500, but would be happy to see nightlies just like s2 or s3.

Don't forget, devices which doesn't get official CM Support still gets unofficial cm ports, like Desire Z etc, we may get unofficial ports, or even cm support lately for Exynos based devices, for example note 3 etc...

Samsung support with the S4/exynos

I remember reading awhile ago an interview with one of the CM developers saying that he's sick of samsung not updating/releasing their exynos codes and as such he stopped develpoing for samsung devices.
As i'm looking to upgrade my s2 to a new phone I'm wondering if we'll see better support from samsung for the developers this time.
any thoughts?

i9505 is a much better choice if you want the stock Android experience. Don't know if you missed it, but Google are launching a Google Edition of the S4(SD600 version), which means it'll be much better supported than the i9500.
yeah just a shame that the exynos version is the only version you can buy in some country's(mine included)
would be much easier buying that one over the GE one!
check areas of custom rom, there more for exynos.

Exynos version is i9500 (plus I believe one Korean version and one Chinese version). Which so far has no CM/AOSP support whatsoever. All of the former Exynos CM maintainers have stopped working with Samsungs, leaving only those who worked with Snapdragon-based Samsungs (of which there were quite a few...) still working on Samsung devices. So far not a single person with a track record of doing good CM bringups/maintenance has stated their intention to touch the Exynos variant.
Snapdragon versions are I9505, I337, M919, not sure what the Verizon and Sprint versions are. M919 got CM support from Cyanogen himself within a day or two of launch, and all other Snapdragon versions are just needing maintainers. Of the Snapdragon versions, the I9505 seems to be getting the least attention. (Except for maybe the bootloader-locked I337...) But the I9505 can leverage M919 and other Snapdragon work, the Exynos version stands on its own, sharing nothing with any other device.

some people are trying port cm to exynos but with no samsung support must be painful, samething happen with gs3

Should I buy it ? And GT-I9500 or I9505 ?

Hey guys,
So I have been using an HTC ONE X for qute some time now, and I want to get a new phone.
I live in Europe so no contracts on nothing.
The main question is should I get the GT-I9500 or the GT-I9505, so the Exynos or the Snapdragon one ?
I have never owned an Samsung phone yet so pardon my possibly dumb questions, as every phone I had yet was an HTC.
I am sick of HTC's S-ON and limitations, so I decided my next phone should be the S4, but what version of it ?
I see that there are quite a lit of custom roms and kernels for the I9505 but very few for the I9500, does that mean that this will stay this way in the future ?
I want to have a phone that I can root, flash custom roms, kernel, mods, and experiment on it, but in the same time I want it to be fast, even on stock rom.
If you want to have a very customizable phone (+ google play edition software) go with the i9505. The exynos version is slightly faster and a bit more battery efficient.

Buy i9505 or i9505G

I suggest you for wait a little while for Galaxy S5 or Note 3 that coming this September ; )
Galaxy S4 is a fantastic device but, its already August so if you love Note you can go for the next Generation
or wait early next year for S5... its all about waiting.
If you can't wait go for S4
If you love stock Android and CM and Android purest go for GT I9505
if you love TouchWiz and not interested in heavy customization go for GT I9500
The Note is far too big for me so I'll stick with 4.7 - 5.0 inch screen phones for now...
I don't know if waiting is a good idea since, where I live, new phones tend to arrive 3-4 moths after their release, so IF the S5 would come out in January 2014, I could buy it Sometime in April or May
9500 was considered slightly faster but since benchmark tricks came to daylight who knows if it's so obvious... ;]
Anyway go for the one for your country, if both get 9505, great device for me. Definitely wouldn't replace it.
With the latest update I've noticed that it's capable to fix gps even inside some concrete buildings. Don't know how it's possible...

I would suggest you to go for i9500 becuase the only drawback in it was about aosp roms which will soon be available for it. It is slightly faster than i9505, camera is a bit better and even games runs slightly better because of processing speed as well as gpu.

Many reviews have the i9505 slightly beating the i9500 by a small margin in battery life. Camera and speed is slightly on i9500 better though the difference is marginal. If you want to be able to play with aosp roms then the i9505 is the only way to go. The i9500 will never come close in this regard because the snapdragon chipset is more open and developer friendly. It's used in several phones so there are many more developers who have familiarity with it and it's far less painful to develop for. Also the Google edition is built off the i9505.
So really do you want a slightly better camera and marginally fastet processor or a much more lively development scene?
It's entirely up to you at the end of the day.

the 9500 is more powerful, the camera and sound seem better , but it isn't footling
the 9505 is supportted better, it has AOSP and the support of CM team and 9500 doesn't

GT-I9505 it is.

This is exactly what has been driving me crazy! I was looking for an exact answer to the i9500 v/s i9505 with respect to dev support. However, i have also seen several replies (in this very thread and elsewhere on XDA) that support is coming for i9500 which should balance the scale in terms of dev support for i9500, which should bring it on par with the dev support for i9505. Is that true?
I have also done some research with my limited knowledge of the android dev scene and correct me if i'm wrong but i have arrived at the conclusion that Samsung will never release the sources for Exynos Octa, but Qualcomm does release sources for its Snapdragon chipsets, which means that as of now and into the future, the i9505 is the best option to enjoy more custom ROMS with better stability due to better support from officially available binaries from Qualcomm. Am i correct in all my assumptions?

GT-I9505 has a bigger system partition, so if you want to install a TW ROM you must have this one. However if you intend in not using any TW or variants ROM you can go for GT-I9505G, which has a bigger data partition at the price of less system partition (in my case the G would be better, as I have now 2.12GB free in system ROM lol, but G wasn't released when I got mine).

[Q] Galaxy S5 or S5+?

Hi,
I'm currently still on the Galaxy S4 i9505, running a ported GPE firmware.
Sadly, Samsung never came through with the Galaxy S5 GPE, so I'll have to make a difficult decision for my next Smartphone.
I was hoping for the new Nexus, but it's just too large for my taste. The Moto X 2014 is a great phone, but the small battery and less than perfect camera are making me a bit reluctant to buy it. Sony Xperia Z3 is a good device, but they have never been the fastest updaters. Also, the Camera on the latest Sony phones is not so great, the sensor might be OK, but Sony kills details with their over-aggressive noise cancelling tech.
So, that leaves me with the "old" Nexus 5 (old processor, small battery and mid-range camera) or one of the Galaxy S5 models.
Now here's my problem: I could get the Galaxy S5 SM-900F, or the S5+ SM-901F. The 901F is the obvious choice, because it comes with the newer Snapdragon 805 SoC. However, I'm not planning on using Touchwiz for more than 5 Minutes, so I need a phone with good CM/ASOP support. I'm a bit scared, that the S5+ will be a "niche" product and won't get many devs. Since Google Play Edition probably won't be happening for the S5 in any of it's shapes, that's my only chance.
Now, what do all of you think?
Do I have a chance with either of the S5 models or should I rather comprmised and go with the Moto X 2014 since that has a clean android interface and will get updated at about the same time as the GPE devices? Might there still be a GPE Galaxy S5? Will Samsung eventually relent and slim down Lollipop and tighten their Update schedule? Rumours point at a 2014 release of Android 5 on the S5 and Note 4, but does that include the new S5+?
Thanks for your ideas!
Get the 901F, I have it for about a month and it's the best phone I have ever used you won't be disappointed
Thanks. I'm not worried about the phone performance, but about dev supporz, from Samsung and from XDA...
Has this been rooted, debloated and/or Cyanogenmodified yet?
Plus is a wasted space tbh. G900F is the way to go in term of develompent. Roms. Programs and so on.

From Samsung, no worry, it will come as for others products.
From devs support here on xda, there's nothing yet:
- root is ok (see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help/sm-g901f-to-s5-how-to-root-t2882104)
- custom recovery not properly yet (only one chinese version here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55667472&postcount=175)
but it does not support aroma interface
- custom ROM does not exists yet
If you only want custom ROM with S5, choose G900* model but product is not as good as G901F.
If not, best product is G901F but need to wait for Devs.
Best regards
Franky

Do I have a chance with either of the S5 models or should I rather comprmised and go with the Moto X 2014 since that has a clean android interface and will get updated at about the same time as the GPE devices? Might there still be a GPE Galaxy S5? Will Samsung eventually relent and slim down Lollipop and tighten their Update schedule? Rumours point at a 2014 release of Android 5 on the S5 and Note 4, but does that include the new S5+?
Thanks for your ideas!

bear in mind
once you flash cyanogen or anything not touchwiz based. you losed camera functionality. 120fps slow mo and 4k will not be in cyanofgen as the samsung camera app is based on the touchwoiz framework
I can live with losing slow motion and 4k. What I really need is HDR in Google Camera. This is a problem on the S4...do you know how the S5 does here?
I really y hate Samsung for dropping GPE devices, and Google for not making an updated Nexus 5...?

Hi,
I'm currently still on the Galaxy S4 i9505, running a ported GPE firmware.

HDR works in google camera. apparently though the quality isnt as good as stock as per usual
well thats what ive heard anyway
personally id rather wait until the camera CM provides can match the stock in terms of modes. or google camera can use extra modes
Never ever ever ever go with Plus-phones from Samsung. They never have as much development as the non-plus versions.

That's what I'm afraid of.
Well, I'll wait a bit longer, tilp the official Lollipop rollout begins, maybe there will be some surprises. After all, there is that picture of the S5 running stock Android on www.android.com which might mean there is a GPE phone coming...

Hi, you are thrue, but 900F will be stopped and replaced by 901F in europe, so devploment would come quick
And snap 805 on 1920 screen geave a beast ! ^^
We already have the first custom rom for 901f with tw or nova launcher and most important fully debloated. Check the android development section.

why do devs never buy plus versions? also why cant they dev for phones they dont own?
The problem is some of us dont have a choice, EE is by far best provider in uk and they no longer supply 900f, much of europs is also exclusivy 901f now.
at&t sprint etc. got own section on site but not 901f.
