Hi guys,
I cracked my Nexus 7 screen. As a result, I purchased a new one and replaced it myself. On first boot, I noticed there was a problem. As we all know, the normal boot screen is black with the Google logo. Mine was white and you can barely see the Google logo. Then my screen turned to black and white (attached image)
Now, Nexus 7 won't turn on at all. No display, no nada! I've tried various methods found online and Youtube with no avail.
Does anyone know what this is or how do I go about solving my issue? Is my Nexus 7 done? I can't get the screen to turn on at all anymore. I've check all connections and still nothing. Please help.
Update: the tablet is definitely NOT dead! I plugged it to my laptop and I can mount the internal memory without issues. That said, what can possibly be my problem then? the display is brand new and I followed the instructions to the T.

First of all, hi to all of you.
Me being a noob with the Nexus, something VERY messed up has just happened to me.
Let me explain from the beginning:
I received the nexus yesterday as a gift from a friend of mine who works at Google (yes, it is the one with the android waving a banner on the back of the phone)
Used it yesterday perfectly, even updated to 2.1.update perfectly fine.
Today, as the batter was dying out, I finally got home and started to charge it (the battery icon was white, with a red outline and a red slash across the battery icon)
Then, the Nexus stopped responding and turned off.
When I tried to turn it back on, it just stays on the boot screen and does nothing.
Now, I have tried the volume down + power button to get to the reset, chose "recovery" and it went right back to the frozen boot screen.
To my knowledge, it is not rooted (although I have read that the Nexus' that employees receive are rooted, I have no idea)
Now, I am stuck with a Nexus paperweight , it doesn't turn on and cant seem to get it out of the boot screen.
Any one here can lend a hand???
P.S. I hope I posted in the correct forum and want to thank anyone that can help ahead of time!
Update:
I did the volume down + trackball + power on thingy and I connected the Nexus to my laptop.
It comes out FASTBOOT USB in red, so it seems it is not totally bricked.
Found the USB drivers and...that's where I am stuck.
I know there is a way to recuperate the Nexus, but I have no idea how...any ideas?
I gave a NookColor to my oldest son 1 year ago, which was rooted & had CyanogenMod7 on it. The other day he said he was booting it & he pushed some buttons while it booted & when he did the screen turned green. It has never been dropped & he has never had a problem with it before this. You can see the icons, fonts & it still functions properly in all other respects...the screen is just green. The screen is also green during the CyanogenMod startup screen, then it goes black, then is green again during the CyanogenMod boot animation. I can tell that the screen is working normal, as it is lit up & black when it is switching between the boot screens.
I have spent many hours searching the net & cannot find this problem ever happening before. How can I change the background back to normal? Is this a hardware or firmware problem??? I have taken it apart & unplugged & reseated the video connector, just to be sure that that wasn't the issue & I've tried putting different Roms on it, including the new CyanogenMod10 for NookColor & it still has a green screen. I even restored it back to Stock & the screen looks almost normal, but when I played the Introduction video, the video doesn't look like the colors are right or something.
Does anyone know how to fix this or if it is even fixable?
Someone...PLEASE help!
Thanks!
Similar Problem here, except half of screen is green.

I have a similar problem, except only half of my screen is green. The half that is green remains in the same place, regardless of orientation, so I am guessing this is a hardware problem.

My experience is similar, except obviously I have half a screen of odd looking video and half normal. I also tried reverting to the stock rom, but with no success. Fortunately when reading books, i.e. just black text on a white background, the effect is not very noticeable, so the NC is currently back to being an ebook reader.
Still I'd love to know how to fix it. I see powerbookmedic (I have no connection to, or experience of, them) sells used parts for the NC, but is this a display problem, which seems likely, or a logic board problem? Buying both would be more than the whole thing is worth.
FIrst of all, sorry for the thread, but I`ve been searching all over night to find a topic with a solution. So I was with using my phone normally (with a GE ROM and a diferent kernel), then suddenly the screen went out. I flashed everything back to stock, the phone didn`t boot up one single time. So I came up with a post in wich a guy said his phone does enter in recovery mode, but he was not able to see the screen. Searching the youtube, looking to a video I was able to perform a Factory wipe and the phone does boot (with sound and the capacitive button`s lights!). However, the screen remained blank, black.
Can someone help me? It has to do with the motherboard? Before going blank, the screen showed some white lines and other coloured strips, with some kind of interference. Any ideas?

could possibly be a dud screen, happened to work colleague, got it fixed under warranty, it just randomly died, had the same symptoms. can hear sound but no picture. they just put a new screen on.
Hi guys. Great forum
I tried to use my device today and it was unresponsive. The device was previously left on with full charge but when i came to use it the screen would not activate as normal. I tried turning the tablet on/off but still the screen was blank. I tried charging it but there was no charge icon.
I assumed a battery issue or some sort of bootloop. I followed the instructions on here to enter the bootloader menu but despite multiple power/volume button combos, nothing happened.
Then (stupidly) I realised the device was still switched on! I only realised this as i received an email and the notification light lit up! I am also able to contact and locate the device using Google Device Manager. So the device is switched on but the screen is dead
The device has not sufferred any physical damage. It was in a bag inside a case for a few hours with the screen locked.
Is there any way round this that you guys know of?
Many thanks in advance.

This is my fathers nexus 7 He was telling me that it had "funny lines" on the screen while using it, then it went dark
and will not turn back on. I have tried every troubleshooting tip about batteries I could find. I have several Nexus 7 s myself. My daughters works great and its the older version like dads.
I ordered a new battery for it, same issue. Then I took the known good battery out of my daughters Nexus and tried it in Dads. Still will not turn on.
I would like to see if I can figure out what is the issue and fix it if its feasible cost wise. But all the troubleshooting I find stop at the batter. Any ideas what I can test/try next?

After replacing the screen, I can't turn on the device. Thinking it was the battery I tried to enter in fastboot and I was able; so i tried to restore all flashing from fastboot;after few attempt the tablet started but then turn off when some green lines came up.
Have you replaced the screen?

No I have not replaced the screen. It was my next thought, but I wanted to see if others had ideas of things to try. If I recall correct my dad was talking about white lines.. but I am not sure of that.
Anyone know if there is a way to test the screen?
