Insufficient Space on the Device? - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

My Motorola Defy unfortunately died but my sister kindly loaned me this Samsung Galaxy Y in the meantime until I get a new phone.
Unfortunately I have only been able to download and install one app "twitter". I try install other apps but it says: "Error while downloading "name of app" There is insufficient space on the device".
I know this phone doesn't have as much internal space as my old dead defy, but it does have 4GB on the SD Card so why does this message keep coming up?
Any ideas or suggestions on how I can fix this greatly appreciated. Surely this is not a design flaw? I can't imagine a company like Samsung making devices like this that don't even allow you to install any apps?

Apps are generally installed in internal memory (until or unless you have a ext partition in sd card where apps can be linked or transferred)
Installing apps in nothing to do with the size of sd card as internal memory is fixed. Around 190 mb but is alredy preoccupied by dalvik and all so it gets full soon...
You can install extra apps by creating ext partition in sd card and using apps like link2sd or s2e or others..
here refer to that thread or use search in devlopment section:
partitioning and Link2sd guide- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142154
There are many more you can search them but follow the thread exactly as it shows how to partition sd card which is required

You know that when ever a program refers to sd-card it means /SDCARD.
And this is the internal sdcard of the galaxy. The external sd-card is mounted at /sdcard/sd.
So friend how come i solve this problem..when i want to continue the installation it always says require at least 35mb memory card free but my memory card 4gig free..

This might be a form of copy protection where it doesn't want to allow apps to be installed off of an SD card. It sounds like you downloaded to an external card, am I right? Make sure you aren't confusing your internal and external SD (memory) cards, only use the internal memory card for downloads and installations.
actually it sounds like the [OP] already maxed out his INTERNAL SD, that's why the game is not installing.
Because Asphalt 5 installed fine for me just fine.
the games will not install to an EXTERNAL SD [OP] 4GB SD card because that feature only comes after fRoyo 2.2

You are referring to you externeal sd card!!
You can't use this card for installing apps. Only the internal sd card.
The internal sd card = sd card for any android app.

Are you sure you can can install apps to /sdcard/sd and not only to /sdcard?
so AllGamer u said that Asphalt 5 installed fine for u...can u tell me the step by step how 2 install the game on galaxy s..can i know ur installer is a copy or u buy original one from gameloft..mine is a copy from someone post...i've already several time try to install but got same problem..i confuse y after i allready install then when i open by click the icon it say must download some data else but it said require some space in memory card but my memory card 4gig free..several time i click retry but can't work...so can u help me regarding this prob please...
You can only install games on to your internal SD. If it fails to install due to not having enough memory you will have to delete some things for it to install. If you have a 4GB external SD you still cannot install apps to it as this is a feature of Froyo 2.2 only. If your not up for deleting anything you'll have to flash a froyo rom or wait until Samsung release the full official version.
easy, just click install
done
no special steps, it just installs automatically to the INTERNAL SD

No one has even asked him properly yet. Syuk89 is your internal memory on your phone full? You should have 8gb or 16gb on your internal memory.

So you have a stolen game ...
But you don't need to steal Asphalt 5 as it is available for free in the Samsung market.
Just select it there to install and everything works.
And of course you need some free space on your INTERNAL sdcard. Not the external 4GB you put in!!!
My hp have 16gig internal memory and 4gig external..i've do all u said but still can't work..i bought this hp from my friend and he said this hp allready upgrade to 2.2 beta and rooted... So if this the problem..n can i know how to make a screenshot like iphone so i can attach the pic

then you are probably in the wrong forum
This forum is for Samsung Galaxy S, not for HP
but even on a HP device you should be able to install the game as long as you are running Android 2.1
many Apps & Games are not yet compatible with Android 2.2
No hp stands handphone..my hp is samsung galaxy s19000.. So how..is i must format my internal sd..

Are you running one of the leaked FroYo firmwares for Samsung Galaxy S? <-- Aha! Yes you are! I should have read your latest posts more carefully.
Nova (a Gameloft game) would not install under this firmware for me because the SD card handling in the leaked firmware was broken. The game requests phone-specific data for external storage (in-game media, I presume) during install, but fails when it cannot find the external SD card.
For the same reason, I could not mount the SD cards properly, a number of apps were unable to access data on the external card, and even custom recovery images failed to see the card so I was unable backup or restore anything via Nandroid.
The only fix for me was to re-install a stable 2.1 firmware.
EDIT: Just to clarify, Gameloft games require external SD storage and will ignore the internal storage completely, failing upon install if no external storage can be found. In the leaked 2.2 firmware (all versions that I found), external SD handling was broken, and the mounting points had been changed (so the external card could not be found where expected, at /sdcard/sd).
Formatting internal or external storage WILL NOT FIX THIS ISSUE!! It is a problem with the 2.2 firmware leaks that cannot be 'worked around'. I even tried sym-linking /sdcard/sd to the external card and got nowhere... but then, I'm not entirely sure I was doing it right anyway. :S
I think its leak because its only beta..many apps force close..the hp also running a bit slow..i bought this samsung from my friend and its allready upgrade to 2.2 beta..so how can i back to normal firmware..or is that i must reset the hp..how??

[Q] market place tells me "no space" with over 2gb of internal storage left!

[Q] market place tells me "no space" with over 2gb of internal storage left!
As some of you may have read on an earlier thread of mine where my phone got stuck looping Droid screens it has now come back to life.
i now have this issue that when i go onto market place to get my apps back, it tells me there is no space to install this. i have a 16gb card which has been partitioned as fat32 for music etc and ext 2 for apps. its formatted the same as before my phone died except im now using a 16gb card not 8gb.
why is it telling me there is no space when clearly there is?
thanks
Hi
I think you are confusing internal storage and sd storage.
If you use a program like titanium backup, it will show you on the opening page all the available storage you have (internal,sd and ext).
If you have no internal storage, it's possible you didn't use correct system partition according to the [OP] recommendation.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
The Market did that to me earlier too. It's some kinda glitch. I was able to download the app after I just tried a few times.
^ Shift Faced
You can use spare parts 2.1 Update (it's somewhere on the forum) to make App2SD+ install apps on the External storage (the ext2/3/4 space)
I think that you need to download a script that fixing this problem because the market application needs a links to the cache files.

[Q] CM7 7.0.3 SD install and "out of space error"

Hi All,
Please bear with me: I've searched and found no clear answer.
When installing apps from the Market, a few errored out with an "out of space" error. When checking space, I still showed 75% remaining.
If I waited a bit, the app would install correctly.
Any idea what's going on, or how to correct it?
I have the option in apps manager to move any selected app to the SD card, but I hesitate to do so as I'm already running the whole show off the card (8-16G-so there's still plenty of space...)
I suspect that there's more in play here than available card space.
Any advice/input would be appreciated!
I'm an old-time DOS/Windows user, so Android/JAVA/Linux are still part of a learning experience.
Thanks,
Dan
Did you ever get an answer to this?
I am doing the same thing but with an 8GB card and the partitions seem to create as they are supposed to but if I install more than 2-3 apps it tells me I am out of space. I cannot get a solid answer as to which partition I need to resize to fix this.

install app on sd on htc mini hd

hi all i m new on android on our device.
i have that problem :
on my device i have a sd with 8 gb (i know..it s not very much... ),with installed android, and other app on by wm 6.5.
android some days ago started to say impossible install the app because not enough space.
i linked device on pc,and see there are about 2 gb free space on sd... ...
well where is the problem for android?
he decided to give some space factory how device's space, and need a partition to see remain space how sd space?
sorry for my english i m from italy(and google traductor it s not better than me).
Maybe a market problem? The updated market gives me low space errors sometimes. in phone settings you can go to manage applications then tap on 'all' and scroll down to market and tap on it. then tap in uninstall update. Works for me for the next app I download but then it updates again and gives me the error for the next app. Sorry if i'm not understanding you but it's worth a try.

thanks for the quickly answer, but i don't think it s a market problem, because in the notify bar there is in continue the messagge the space it s finishing...but it s not true....20 minutes ago i erased 900Mb lol.... i suppose a pair of app on 900Mb free can be installed....or not? (i mean app and not games.)
i suppose android decide to take some space(for example 3gb of the sd) and use that how device memory.
then when that space it s full,it say the space it s finish.
maybe if our sd it s partitioned (for example a part with the apps of win +exe of android and another part called sd,used for sd card for android) can install app in sd space how sd and then not how device memory.... lol...i know it s complicate to understand what i m saying..
Maybe your sd card is partitioned? Try instaling http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html and see if you have something wrong in your sd card

ICS - Move Apps to Internal USB-Storage

Hello Guys!
Searched the whole day for a solution bút nothing really answers my questions, so i will post here.
Is there any chance of moving apps from DeviceMemory (2GB) to the internal USB-Storage (11GB). I tried to use App2SD and tried it with the Android Onboard Tool but nothing will do it. It just keeps moving to external SD.
When the external SD is removed and you try to move an app there is just the advice: "not enough memory".
Addition: My memory option in settings looks like this:
http://s14.directupload.net/images/120513/3rhplf49.png
Total Memory: ~11GB
Other Data (red) - will show what u really use PLUS the amount of the external SD card
Is that the Problem that the OS thinks like in this Pic the USB Storage is too full (more full than its total size ^^) and let you only move to external SD?
Ok, long story short: Is there a way to move apps to the internal USB Storage?
Thanks!
Have you looked to see what's on you're internal sd? Remember that it won't be wiped by a normal ROM flash unless you specify, so data will build up flash by flash.
Sorry, I know it sounds pedantic, but first thing to try.
what spec phone do you have?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
If i move an app from applications in settings with the command "move to SD" i will see in the Storage overview that the device Storage gets smaller and the storage from external SD gets bigger.. The USB-Storage (internal SD) stay the same.
The path for the files were /mnt/asec (?) there i found some files..
And the thing with non wipe and data: Got my Note as off. ICS LPY was released and flashed it out of the box with ICS. There is nothing from older roms..
What do you mean with Spec Phone? I have a Austrian Galaxy Note GT-N7000 with official ICS LPY on it running..
PS: The problem with apps cant move to internal storage is also on Galaxy S2 present.
Can anyone try to move apps from device to the internal storage? I think that its a bug in ICS.
First things first, I would recommend downgrading to stock GB, check out Dr. ketans thread in the stickies of the ROM development thread.
It seems unlikely, but since your on lpy, there's a possibility that your data is corrupt, have to say am not sure about this at all.
There's also a thread about the issues with lpy, lpf kernel that's worth reading from abisahara.
Please, anyone else have any further recommendations, please ignore me.

------
double-post sorry..
First of all thanks for your attempt to help me out.
But whats the sense of downgrading? And nope, data isn´t corrupt can move things from pc to the phone without any problem, everthing is OK.
The only problem is to move Apps to internal USB-Storage (11GB) that wont work. There are others too with this problem and their phone never touched custom rom or anything, just the official ICS OTA Update.
Btw. i remeber i saw peopole with Galaxy S2 with the same problem on the net.
You have a Note too - try it for yourself to move apps from Device Mem (2GB) to Internal USB.Storage (11GB). I bet it wont work. Its not a special problem to me i think its a general problem.
Also is the data corruption not an effect from wiping? Havent wiped my phone yet one time..
regards.
Data corruption occurs from any large data movement, weather it's wipe, or deleting large files, there's suggestion that 2GB is the danger point but I experienced issues after writing a 500mb file that started fcs across the board.
I'm more than likely overreacting and apologies for this. Maybe someone with more experience can help better.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Hey.
Just forget the data corruption, man! I´m fine with this till now and that doenst belong to my problem..
I just want to put some apps (e.g angry birds) to my internal USB Storage and that dont work i only can move apps to the real external SD, other people have the problem too and i want to know if this is on all ICS releases from Samsung with splitted memory??
@Jaysus88, I understand your problem and frustration since I have the exactly same problem and frustration. After some search, I feel the problem may be because some phone manufacturers disabled the "Move to USB storage" capability. BTW, my phone is Samsung Galaxy Note-N7000 with ICS.
I just registered the account to share potential solutions. I was suggested two solutions (I haven't got chance to try them myself yet):
1. Root the system and somehow re-partition the internal storage to increase "Device memory" (and shrink "USB storage").
2. Add an actual SD card and "Move to SD card" instead of "Move to USB storage".
(just realized that new users cann't post links :-( )
Both 1 and 2 have limitations that I don't know for sure:
For 1, is it really possible to re-size the storage partitions after rooting the phone?
For 2, ICS may not support some SD cards; moving too many apps to SD card may also cause rebooting issues for Android (we can easily find a lot of complaints about this issue, such as the Android issue id 25563 on google code).
If you find another more robust solution, I would love to hear about it! This is another reason I registered my account.
Hi!
Found that in Themes & Apps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652079
This will change the mounting points for external and internal SD. It should work.
For myself i leave it as it is.
