Apps that support pen tilt sensitivity on the Note 4 - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed something interesting a while back: Samsung claimed to offer tilt sensitivity starting with the Note 4, if you look at the "Measurement techniques" row on this infographic.

Turns out they weren't kidding about that. The tilt sensitivity works in Clover Paint if you set a brush to utilize the pen tilt sensitivity, complete with "Cintiq-only" disclaimer since the Cintiq Companion hybrid was, up until now, the only Wacom-equipped Android device to feature pen tilt. Not surprising when it features one of the pro-level DTK digitizer boards Wacom hoards for themselves.
But the Note 4 still uses a UD-series board, or at least something frequency-compatible. The same pens still work, and in fact, I can take my other Tablet PC pens, put them to the Note 4 screen, and the tilt sensitivity still responds correctly as I move the pen around.
That just leaves the question of what actually makes use of the pen tilt other than Clover Paint.
I don't notice it working in S Note, SketchBook for Galaxy or ArtRage. The rotation for flat brushes is either static or aligned with the direction of the pen's movement rather than its physical tilt. This may change with future updates, but that's how it currently stands.
Anyone else care to find what other art apps might utilize it? Bonus points if any of them are a VirtualTablet sort of app that can turn the Note 4 into a pocket-size Intuos Pro for use with any computer.

Artrage does support tilt sensitivity. It's not available in play store but you will find it as a free gift in galaxy app store.

I downloaded ArtRage through GALAXY Gifts; that's how I tested it to begin with.
If it does support the tilt sensitivity, then clearly I haven't found the option in the interface, and not from lack of trying. Flat tools noticeably reorient themselves based on stroke direction rather than whatever angle you're holding the pen.
The airbrush is ambiguous; there's a tilt slider in its options, but certainly no checkbox to leave it fixed or have it utilize the Wacom pen tilt.

tilt can be subtle

Hello, I don't actually own a Samsung Note device but stumbled across your thread while researching to get one. I believe ArtRage for Android should be registering your pen's tilt. It's just that the tilt effect can be subtle, but you should be able to notice it for the pencil and airbrush tools in ArtRage at least.
Since I'm a new user, XDA won't let me post links but there's an article straight from ArtRage's website that has a picture comparing upright vs. tilted drawing using the Galaxy Note 4 S Pen. See if you can get the same results.

Wow, that was so many years ago - 2015! But indeed, I've noticed that ArtRage only supports tilt sensitivity on select tools like the pencil in that time since, be it on my Note 4, Note 8, Cintiq Companion Hybrid and its old Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 (yes, you can sideload the Galaxy Gifts ArtRage APK if you can retrieve it with root access), or even the Windows version of ArtRage 4.
What tripped me up back then was, of course, the fact that it only worked on specific brushes (and not all of them with a rotational quality that align themselves to the pen's stroke direction rather than tilt) and didn't generally make the option obvious like on Clover Paint or most of the usual Windows art apps.

I realize this is an old thread, but infinite painter and possibly infinite design register tilt

Hello,
I know, this is an old thread, but here's what I found using a Samsung Galaxy Tab A + Staedler Noris digital.
- Artrage: Tilt is supported for Pencil and Airbrush, but heavily depends on the tool settings. Also it does not feel very natural and doesn't look nice either (personal opinion).
- Autodesk Sketchbook Pro: Tilt works and you can modify almost any brush to utilize it. Downside: the brush engine is so darn CPU hungry, that brush lag kills the drawing/painting fun.
- Infinite Painter: my goto everyday painting/drawing app. Pen tilt works with some brush types and you can customize it. If you don't ask too much from your device, it can handle even bigger sized brushes well in terms of brush lag.
If you need more specific information, post here
Happy drawing,
Th.

That's great to have all those pics in one place! D
BTW, do you have a picture of the other lateral side of the diamond 2? The one opposite to the volume up/down buttons?
I think that contrary to the HD, it is possible to access the microSD card without removing the back-cover (there is an external microsd slot), but I am not sure...

Thanks for the info, it is unfortunate but not too bad, I intend to buy a 16 Gb micrsd anyway so it is not like I will swap those everyday ;-)
Thickness comparison is very interesting, I wonder why such an increase of the bottom (cover) thickness, the frame seems to have remained more or less the same. If someone already have a physical TD2, it would be interesting to see the battery compartment compared to TD1, to see if the increase of size is more than what can be expected from the 900 mAh -> 1100 mAh transition. He he, I am already hoping for larger battery without changing the back cover ;-)
Given that the electronic is not likely to be larger than in TD1, and that the screen is also unlikely to be thicker, I have the feeling that a larger battery could have been fitted easily, maybe at the expense of weight but this is much less a problem than size/thickness imho...
Besides that, the screen seems more bluish compared to the yellowish TD1 screen....That's something I like
i think its step in the wrong direction from the old diamond in terms of external design
-the zoom bar just makes the phone bigger and its quite usless most of the time. having a smaller phone or a bigger 3.4" screen is much better.
-the old us diamond came with 1340mah even though its thinner and smaller

Agreed, the battery is too small, I smell an "extended" battery coming later (because it is more like the one included is reduced ;-) )
The zoom bar is no problematic, it is the dead space below the buttons that should be reduced. This, if smaller side borders are possible, would allow a screen .2'' bigger, and it would be the perfect screen size/ portability for me, as I find the TD2 size just right.
Dead space seems like a very bad design decision for devices where space on the front side is at a premium.

Hehe, yes, I think it is a older prototype (the diamond in the wild ;-) ): look at the buttons: there is a home logo, which is replaced by the windows logo on the official pictures. Probably changed at the time the windows button requirement for WinMo6.5 was known...

Also, the zoom bar design has changed...and the metallic frame has a very "artisanal" look on the pics, it looks like it has been made manually or with a cruder stamping that the official model (the wild TD2 had much more squared edges, while the official one is more rounded and is cleaner/more regular)
Wow, this wild TD2 must have been an early prototype, like a concept phone ;-)
Hmm..I have to disagree.
I like the look of the new diamond. Looks a little more grown up and 'polished' if you will. As for the zoom bar, they needed something to replace the functionality of the D-Pad (which took up too much space IMHO) since Win Mo doesn't seem to support it natively. Dunno, I think it is an improvement.
Just perfect!
I like the design of the TD2 too and I think the Zoombar is very useful, using google maps etc. I took a look at it at the cebit two weeks ago and hold it in my hands - just brilliant! The way HTC combined the Aluminium and the plastic looks and feels very noble.
I'll take it
I just hope the Touch HD apps will work on the Diamond too and the processor will not lack!
Diamond 2 Without Scroll
Would have prefered no scroll pad on the face but on the sides of the device HTC Needs to make more use of the Gsensor in the UI Navigation and Digital TV - HTC Touch Media ???
Have pre ordered a Boring old Touch Diamond 2 for the 15th
I love the front design, and I do think we can do without the zoom bar. However, I find the back a real disappointment. The triangle surrounding the camera lens looks ugly, esp the fact that there's no facets like D1.
To top if off.. they had to use a glossy surface, which most of us would call it "the fingerprint magnet". It would have been better if they could go with the aluminium finish or matt black with symetrical design.
I wonder why such an increase of the bottom (cover) thickness, the frame seems to have remained more or less the same. Don't forget that this guy has a microSD card, which causes it to be as thick as the D1+1340mAH battery. I would rather have a 8-16GB built in memory with much bigger battery.

I really like it too. I was thinking of upgrading in the next couple weeks but looks like I am going to have to wait a little longer until this is released. I just saw on another thread that t-mobile has redesigned it a little and it looks even better. It will be interesting to see what other carriers do with it before they release it. And if they are coming out with theirs in June I hope others aren't too far behind.
I think its very beautiful . . . but the TP2 is more beautiful IMO.
Does anybody know with wich backside it ships? I really hope it is the non-shining black one, and not the shiny one

[Discussion]Note 3, Will get Unbreakable flexible screen(but no Full HD) Updated!

This is an article Posted on 23 Apr 2013 at 09:47, by Gareth Halfacree -> HERE
Given the choice would you take the flexible low resolution (shock resistant) screen or the Glass high resolution(more fragile)?
Galaxy Note 3 may launch with flexible display according to OLED Association
Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 3 will apparently launch with a flexible display, providing a reduction in thickness as well as significant protection against impacts.
Samsung's top-end smartphones have long used organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, which provide a higher level of contrast and lower power draw than traditional liquid-crystal displays. OLED displays work without a backlight, with each pixel emitting its own light.
For some years, the company has been working on flexible and transparent display technologies. It showed off a plastic-based flexible liquid-crystal display as far back as 2005, promising that commercial applications would be seen very shortly. Sadly, the leap never happened: Samsung's products continue to use AMOLED displays protected by toughened glass, which can shatter if hit hard enough or at the right angle.
Rumours that the Galaxy Note 3, the company's upcoming phablet device, would be the first to include a flexible display have been given weight by the OLED Association, which has suggested the device will launch with a 5.9in or larger plastic-based OLED display. Compared to the company's glass-backed technology, as found in the current-generation Galaxy Note 2, the site believes that the plastic version could knock almost 1.5 millimetres off the thickness of the device, as well as reducing its weight.
One of the biggest advantages to the plastic-backed display technology is its flexibility: while the entire smartphone won't bend, the screen will be able to deform to better absorb impacts. This means the device should be able to withstand being dropped from a height that would shatter the glass of the Galaxy Note 2 without difficulty.
The OLED Association does warn that there could be a trade-off in the use of a plastic display, however: resolution. The current trend is towards offering Full HD 1,080x1,920 resolution displays in smartphones and tablets, but the site says it is unlikely that Samsung would be able to mass-produce a plastic-backed display at these resolutions by the time the Galaxy Note 3 launches towards the end of the year. As a result, it's possible that the Galaxy Note 3 will launch with a lower resolution - or be available with a plastic display in some regions and a glass display in others, splitting the market in a similar manner to its Galaxy S4 which ships with a quad-core chip in the UK and with an eight-core Exynos 5 Octa elsewhere.
Samsung, for its part, has refused to comment on the rumours, but with the Galaxy Note 3 expected to launch before the year is out fans of the company's Note range shouldn't have long to wait.

Glass! I don't really mind that bit of inconvenience. I hope they release a non Note line to perform their experimentation on and when they perfect it, they can bring it to the main Note/Galaxy line. I don't mind the glass at all, hope the develop a method to implement 1080p RGB SAMOLED on Note III, that'd kick ass.
I am pretty comfortable with 720p, right now I don't want more resolution but faster performance for games, going to 1080 will kill that and we will have the same or worse than in note 2.
720p for me without pentile it is more than enough. I see 1080p as a marketing tool rather than a useful feature.
This reminds me of old resistive plastic screens when they would get very easily scratched, Thank you very much but no I will never buy a phone with plastic screen I like the smooth touch feeling of the glass and will stick with it.
I dont think is likely since we are going to use a pen. And the pressure at the tip of the pen is very high compared to a finger and most likely to easely scratch a plastic screen over a short time period plus that i cant imagine drawing on a soft screen would be a pleasant experience

Interesting, I don't know if I should be happy or not.
They won't be able to produce enough flexible OLED for everybody so they will have to split the market.
Does this mean the Flexible OLED version phones will have bigger battery?
Flexible OLEDs will consume less battery, surely? But I won't be terribly happy to go back to those 2100 mA batteries just because it's power efficient to be honest. If the market is split, I would gladly go for non plastic OLED if it has larger battery and large screen.
Will I think no one will notes the changes between the two screens only the power consumed and the power of taking hits on it ... the feel will be the same ad thy both have yhe same finishing ..

Look at the picture, the battery will be bigger. Since the screen is so much thinner there is more place for the battery AND the screen consumes less battery so the battery life should(in theory) be much better.
I don't care all that much about going to 1080p as 720p is already VERY good, I don't care at all about getting some extra bit of battery as the present one is already pretty good and I use extra batteries and NEVER charge the phone anyway, I do care about a lighter and tougher smartphone BUT the main point of these rumors are for me the screen dimensions: I am really, REALLY hoping that it won't be just 5.9" (especially seeing that the Mega is coming out with a 6.3" display which would be an IDEAL size for me).
Although I don't see them doing so, it would be perfect if they offered a 5.8" and a 6.3" Note III as they are doing with the Mega...
Damn you Samsung. I didn't want to upgrade this year. Now it's gonna be a whole lot harder to resist the urge.

Seriously people don't have anything else to do than just editing their build.prop(s) ,but the top result looks interesting ,more likely to be another fake though.
I'm late to this discussion, but ... I just don't understand what all the excitement is over flexible screens. Aside from being THEORETICALLY harder to break, what's the advantage? Even if the screen is flexible, the rest of the phone ain't! The frame, the case, the circuit board, the battery -- none of those are gonna flex, so what's all the excitement about? It's just another marketing gimmick, if you ask me.
Gimme 1020p and I don't care whether the screen is flexible or not.

Well besides the fact that a replacement screen is costly and having a unbreakable screen is very useful, another HUGE advantage of the flexible screen(too bad you didn't read before posting) is the thickness. The flexible screen is 1.5mm thinner than the already thin glass OLED allowing for more room for a bigger battery in a same size phone.
Note 3 will be announced around July/August, and the screen says Q4. Doesn't make any sense.

Actually the announced date have been changed since the OP. It was originally set for September but recent rumors is setting it for mid-summer.
No way midsummer....they have to ride the S4 sales ride out...
I doubt they would let this debut on a flagship, it would spell their doom if this is in any way imperfect.
They would probably introduce this on another phone, and depending on it's reception implement it in their future devices.
Like the Samsung beam, not every needs these features.
It could go the way of 3D on phones

goood :good:
I played with both the Note 4 and Edge today.
The screens on both are stunning. Everything looks a step sharper than the Note 3. The colors still pop, but everything looks more natural. Whites are noticeably whiter. Both screens are brighter too.
The metal rim is a nice touch and from a quality standpoint both devices were nicer than the Note 3. Still, they're not on the level of the iPhone/HTC devices and are probably closer in quality to the G3/Moto X (2014).
I was super excited for the Edge, but after using one I'm not sure what I think. The bent edge is really small and kind of awkward to use on its own. For most applications that section doesn't do anything. When I was using Chrome for instance it just goes black and says My Note Edge. I installed Nova to see what it did with a launcher and the result was the same. You can swipe the strip and something will come up, but there didn't seem to be a full-screen mode where normal content was stretched to that area automatically. Also when using some apps the content from the strip area seemed to overlap slightly over the main screen area.
I couldn't get any great pics (and some are blurry) but here they are:

I played with the Note at Best Buy as well. They had 3 on display, all were white.
There are very few differences from the Note 3 and S5, but that screen is just perfect. The settings menu is like the s5 except it has some quick settings up top and the background is white. The calendar and clock widgets have transparent options (the s5 has the ability to make the widget transparent). The folder icons look like the s5, but you can no longer change the color. Blue is the only option, which is pretty lame.
The phone software felt smooth as anything I've used, kills the G3. The wide selfie cam is pretty cool. Taking pictures side by side my girlfriends S5 showed only minor differences, obviously testing was limited.
The speaker was loud, no bass but definitely loud. The metal trim that's painted partially white is really sexy. The inside of the calculator app is reworked, functions the same but its a welcome visual change.
All in all, it's a damn good phone, makes me miss my Note 3, but if you use a Note 3 and aren't interested in this new display, there's really no reason to upgrade.

Very little because of the cord. I couldn't get the air command window to pop up. I did use it on the (notepad app?) a little. It does feel better than the Note 3, not a HUGE difference, but it just feels like it glides and it's more accurate. Again, I barely used it, but I do think people will be happy with it over the Note 3.
If you guys go check it out, you must watch the pre-loaded video of the people in the city. It's obviously shot with the proper equipment and does not reflect what our own videos will look like, but it just looks awesome.
I am not seeing the difference compared to the Note 3 that some are implying. Both displays look great and I have to get overly close to notice the difference from typical usage distance. Then I notice tiny fonts are more legible.
I also do not see the N4 any faster than the Note 3. Both are great fast devices IMO.
What I do notice is there is about 3GB less storage than the Note 3. That is accounting for the 4GB of demo bloat too on the N4. I sure hope that is a demo allocation issue, or the N4 would have at least 3gb less storage out of box. I think it is closer to 4gb MIA.
Note 4
Was shocked to see the Samsung people settled in BB and with everything layed out. I didn't even know any of this and was only browsing at BB and then the Note 4 popped up and that was all I was staring at for a good minute which seemed very long and then I dashed to it to pick it up onto my hand. Low and behold, the Note 4, Note Edge, at last, in person, in real life! Oh man oh man the security cord could do with a bit of extension at the least! Whatever... the Note 4 was nice in my hand, it felt so right. It looked so nice. I used to use a Note 2, until it got soaked while kayaking with only 1 layer of ziplock around it.... Forgot to do the second layer. So I'm back to my S3, phone was dead right when I saw the Note 4, so no pictures, sorry. But the Note 4 sounds amazing! The speakers are LOUD! Mind you, BB was packed on a Sunday evening and pretty loud with the noise environment. The person above said it had no bass, now that I think back, I don't believe I heard bass.... But who cares!?!? The speakers will for SURE make you hear that notification or phone call that you get from a few rooms away in your house! The Note 4 was a blast to play with! The camera selfie made me look so handsome!!! Right when I was about to snap a photo with my S3, the S3 camera looked so dark compared to the N4 camera. My phone wouldn't do the N4 any justice if I was to snap a few shots anyways! But man oh man oh man oh man! The N4 is awesome! If you don't the Note 3, check the N4 out because it might not be a huge upgrade to the N3 users. This baby is going out in the market for $825.99 w/o contract, 299.99 with 2 years contract for most carriers and damn... Do I want one for my Verizon account! For the folks out there with second thoughts on which phone to get that's over $500, this is the bad boy to go for. This is the one. Don't even think about waiting for the N5, it'll be approx 365 days before that happens. I'm still stoked! I had to leave BB to go to Costco before it closed.... BUMMED me out..... I'm still thinking about yesterday though.... Dying to go there again to play with it.
EDGE,
Samsung always want to have an EDGE over others.

Hi
What a pretty phone.
Posting some Note 4 photos I took at BB
Hey, everybody. I'm going to all the Note 4 general forums to post a few pics I took of the Note 4, just in case there's a person or two who hasn't been able to see them in the flesh at Best Buy, or they want to see real life photos.
Honestly I was not that impressed at Best Buy today. The overall design is beautiful. And the 2d screen thing was noticable to me. Also whites looked brighter and whiter and less washed out when compared to my Note 3. Other than that same ol Note and definitely not a significant upgrade over the 3. That being said I cannot resist the $200 trade in offer and I will be upgrading. Lol

I thought the same until paying close attention to the display with web and image content. The N3 has a grest display, but the N4 has a STUNNING display.
Still, I agree the Note 4 is not a giant leap from the N3.

Note Edge (and Note 4) Hands on Impressions

Did you face any difficulty holding in one hand? Did holding interfere with edge display sending unwanted touches or inputs?

No, I didn't have any difficult holding it. I know it's wider than my Note 3, but it felt very similar in hand. I also didn't have problem with unwanted touches, but I was using it two handed for the most part.
I didn't get a chance to put it up to my ear. I'm not sure the cord would have been long enough, but I'll try the next time I'm at that Best Buy to see how it will be for actual phone calls.

Thank you SeanPlunk for the images you provided and also your findings/opinion of the Note Edge. It's much appreciated.

One thing I forgot to ask is how did you guys like the convenience of quickly jumping to an app that was recently used? I figured this would be one of the prime benefits of using the Note Edge(besides the notifications that can be received solely on the curved screen).

Jumping to apps was useful, but not necessarily that much quicker than the traditional app switcher, just different.

Oh okay. I thought that not having to deal with that extra step of viewing the apps to choose to launch one from would be an added convenience. I know I would like it similar to doing it on Windows 7 (and earlier version of) OS runnning on a computer.
I been meaning to hit up best buy and check out the phone.
I know i want th phone because i like the edge look and i know devs will be putting it to use.
It sucks that the phone didnt go full screen when you open up the browser.
Thats one think i was hoping you would be able to turn control.
I hope that with updates or settings your be able to change this.
I just want to make sure I understood what you meant when you said the result was the same when using Nova launcher.
Do you lose any of the Edge's side screen functionality when using Nova (or any other) launcher? Or rather, do you lose any of the Edge's unique functionality when using a different launcher than Samsung's Touchwiz?

By default when I was using Nova and on the homescreen the side bar displayed My Note Edge. The homescreen did not stretch into that area. You could still activate the side bar by swiping it of course, but I wish there was a mode where when using the homescreen it would just stretch over to the bar area.
I think I may go back to the store and play with it again this weekend without my 4 year old running around.
If anyone has anything specific they'd like me to test let me know.

Yea I know what you mean. Hopefully there is and option or 3rd party app around release

I was a bit confused and worried about the lack of support by native Samsung apps. Ex. Camera uses it but Gallery does not. Messaging seems perfect for it since sidebar could be quick convo switcher but no. Much as I would want it I cant imagine major apps like FB , IG , YT hangouts etc using it.
fwiw the screen on the Note 4 seemed a bit brighter on an all white picture.
If the gear fit can display fb whatsapp etc notifications with not much problem I think it will be no issue with the edge (hope I'm right)
Si I went out to the bb. And tested it out.
It looks so damn nice. It's also lighter then the note 3. It had the cores and stuff on it but it still felt lighter.
The lcd screen is shorter then the note 3.
Basically the edge higher is from the bottom of the note 3 screen to the bottom part of the status screen.
Also on the model I was using the edge part shrunk itself in half when using the browser and market. And other apps. It basically turn the lcd full screen and that small part would just be the shoulder part.
there is still no word on price but it seems to be from $800 to $1000. But I am still thinking $850
And it's a confirm date of $ Nov 3 to 5.
Could you lucky people who have had the chance to play with Note Edge tell me if the device has sharp edges around the screen? It looks that way in pictures.
Also, if the phone was fingerprint locked, would the edge screen still open the apps bypassing the unlock option?
Thanks

I mean in regards to off setting UI and Button features the way the camera and video apps do. So many uses I dont see happening. Like full screen pic in FB but all those icons and tabs are off to the right.

Oh no it doesnt.
Of you own a note 3 it's the same thing. It's smooth all the way around and you really don't notice it.

Best Buy has em on display

I was there today and they had a demo with no straps or anything on it, it was an edge.
It is a lot smaller than it feels and it is light. It really is a pleasure to hold.
The focus is everything they claim it to be. No hunting, near instant focus. It will focus faster than you can, its crazy.
The edge goes down the sides a little more than the S6 edge, but since the back is sloped and they worked it the edge is not as sharp.
^what he said. Light to hold, one hand easy operation. Also was not red hot like the s6s on display
I really wanted to test the fingerprint security but they had it disabled in the menu

Yes, I had a note 4, went to iPhone by mistake 6splus ....so maybe I'm used to the reach. It was was easier to handle over the 6s plus. Smaller in physical size as well
Taking the Edge features out of the equation, how do you think the general usage of the S7 vs the S7 Edge compares? I'm curious about how web pages, pics, videos, etc. look on the curved screen vs the flat S7. Do you really notice the curve in normal use?
Seeing as how the Edge is not much bigger physically and only 5g heavier than the S7, but with a considerably larger screen and battery, I'm considering the Edge even though I initially had no interest. I love the size of my S4, and the S7 is very similar in size, which is good, but it also weighs almost an ounce more, which I don't like.

I only looked at the 7 for a short time. The screen is not that much smaller and would probably work for most.
My 1st thought was that the curve of the edge would be like wasted screen space, but after seeing it, it is not.
Coming from note4 the it would be hard for me to go to a smaller screen. I used to use my laptop at home all the time. Since having a larger screen on the phone, the laptop only comes out when it needs to.
I still think that though it is beautiful and a technological marvel, the edge is a gimmick and a slight disadvantage over a flat screen for reading, pic movies etc

How so? I've nearly had the edge for a year now and never had any issues with reading or movie watching. In fact I feel as if the edge enhances the movie watching experience.
Thanks. After seeing a number of articles & videos about the Edge capabilities, they don't look like anything I'd ever use. I briefly had a Note 3 and a G4, which were both too large & unwieldy for me as a daily driver. The Edge isn't significantly bigger bigger or heavier than the S7, but sports a phablet sized screen, so I guess I'll have to check it out for screen usefulness & one-handed use. I really don't care at all what a phone looks like.

I felt the same way even though I pre ordered yesterday. I was skeptical, but was on for about 20 minutes @ Best Buy and know I made the right choice. For me anyway
I wonder if all Best Buy's have the demos out. I could call before heading out. My local Best Buy doesn't seem have very much demo wise.
I went to Best Buy. Impressive devices. My gut feeling is that the standard S7 will end up being my choice. I'll probably pick up the Edge at T-Mobile a few months after release (I want to see how the ROMs shake out) and try it out for a week or two before deciding if it's too big. The size was borderline for me, and the size of my old Note 3 just felt worse to me the longer I used it, so I'll need to have the option to return it. The Edge is very tall - Note-level height - and one-handed usage was not good. (I'm a 5'-8" male with average sized or slightly smaller hands.) Much better one-handed than the Note 3 and G4, but it was pushing the limits of my hands. To me, the curved screen was a bit disconcerting, but was better than I expected it to be as far as seeming distorted. I definitely like flat screens better, but I think I could live with the Edge in that regard. The standard S7 was of course much closer in size to my S4, although it was a fair bit taller, as well. Not enough to be problematic, although I consider the top & bottom bezel size of both devices to be too large, especially coming from the very compact S4. Not Apple-level gigantism, but a bit disappointing. The weight of the S7 was also noticeably greater than the S4, another negative. But all in all the physical characteristics were pretty good.
They looked great. My battered S4 looks perfectly fine to me, so obviously I don't really care, but credit where it's due. They had black and silver versions in the store. The silver looked pretty cool, but was horrendous for fingerprints, whereas the black was much better in that regard. They were also less slippery in the hand than I thought they might be, which was great.
Camera was way beyond any phone I've ever tried. Actually, I've never used a digital camera that was as quick and clear as the S7. The screen quality and brightness are also the best I've ever seen.
all I wonder is, if the fingerprint scanner is improved, even slightly, in the 7.

I went to try it and the option is locked out of the display model. I would have deleted it but makes sense for them to disable it. Peeps be locking it and walk away
I hope it works good. It's the ONLY thing I like from the iPhone.
I found the fingerprint scanner the same way. I did enable Developer mode, but it wouldn't let me actually active it. Understandable.
Welp, looks like I will be headed to BB after work today.
yea iphone has that advantage over us. best fingerprint scanner in the market i'd say.
Just played with the edge at BB. I made a great choice. Its slim and feels good in your hand.
