Hello. I have this MOJO because I want to use it as a 4k player. When I try to watch videos in the YouTube app, I get black bars and the some icons at the bottom of the screen. How do I get the videos to play in full screen?
I wish I knew as well. I hate black bars.

I used https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys&hl=en to hide mine, but sadly it has a red bar across the bottom instead. You can resize it but cant make ti go away without paying for the "pro" version (which I did, and the fullscreen without the black bar across the bottom is beautiful!)

You'll need it rooted, then try out a few apps on the store or google'ing.
Alternatively, you can upgrade to CM12, see the dev forums.

Does that stretch the 4:3 content though or just hides the nav bar? I use fullscreen to hide the navbar but I think he and I are referring to 4:3 side bars.

So I've had my kindle fire for about a week now and so far I'm loving it. It's my first android device after 4 years of using solely iOS and am probably going to ditch my iPhone 4 for an android phone when my contracts up.. That being said...
Is there anyway to force apps into full screen? Especially with video apps (mx video player, mobo, etc) it is very annoying having that bar at the bottom (even the "minimized" grey bar is distracting). It's even worse on apps like spotify, where the navigation bar covers up the entire bottom of the screen making it impossible to play or stop a song! I would love to be able to make this bar completely go away when not needed. Maybe a 4-5 finger swipe down would minimize it and a swipe up would bring it back? Anyone capable of making something like this, or know of something that already exists?
Thanks!

The KF only has a two point multi-touch.
I think you will see changes in the bottom bar with some of the Roms that will be released soon.

Oh really? I did not know that. Thanks for the info. Will keep an eye out for custom roms.

This is something I've found to be annoying as well. For instance, with Spotify you can't use any of the "play" or "pause" functions at the bottom of the screen because the bar is in the way.
That bar is a Kindle Fire thing, you won't have that problem with an Android phone. I find the bar annoying too when using MX player. Hopefully a nice pprt of ICS will fix us all up!

I'm all about maximizing screen real estate, so I removed the on-screen nav buttons by adding 'qemu.hw.mainkeys=1' to system/build.prop. I use GMD Gesture Control to get around and things are pretty awesome. What still bugs me though is that videos through the youtube app play with 7/16 inch black sidebars in landscape. Is there any way to get videos to play true fullscreen? I tried playing videos through Chrome but couldn't even get the videos to play landscape.

You can't, because the screen resolution of the N4 is 1280x768, as opposed to 1280x760 like a true HD video. You would have to zoom a bit and chop the edges of the video of if you wanted true full screen.

i think this has to do more with how you got rid of the nav buttons, if you want to do it yourself you have to edit the frameworks not just the build prop. The easy way would be just to use AOKP, PA or CM rom that has this option built in. btw check out LMT instead GMD, it much better.
here's a screen of my youtube app on the nexus 4
GMD have the option to hide your nav bar, you can also create a gesture to hide and unhide the nav bar. It's what I'm using right now.

i've been holding out on flashing roms until most of the kinks are worked out, but i guess there's no harm in testing them out now since they're probably pretty close to stable. i'll test them all out soon. which one are you running, neotekz?
I HATE how the navbar turns to black on most apps.......it is so annoying
Samsung is like "here, have this beautiful, large, near-bezelless screen.....but lets shut a portion of the AMOLED screen off on the bottom with a HUGE BLACK BOX THAT MAY AS WELL BE A BEZEL."
Shouldn't there be an option to make it transparent like it is when you're on your home screen...or at the very worst, just shaded like when you're in Bixby?
Was already answered on OT
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pl.damianpiwowarski.navbarapps
is transparent in some apps - i guess its app dependent - but it reverses to black/white or whatever is your selected colour when typing or so
i guess it's up to the app developers to allow it in their apps

what apps is it transparent in for you...because I can't find a single app where it is still transparent (other than Bixby and the home screen)?
well out of the top of my head?
BBC weather - sounds silly but give it a try and see
Falcon pro for example.

I wish
I wouldn't even mind as much if the navbar could be white in all Google apps....but it's black.
No matter what I change, I can't get it to stay white. It basically makes the onscreen navbar and softkeys appear to be on a huge black bezel.

Immersive mode looks amazing on this phone. Haven't had any issues with any apps. Do note that some apps, like Samsung messages, have their text field all the way at the bottom - so it's a little annoying to swipe up to bring up the navigation bar since it also touches the field which brings up the keyboard. It takes a bit to get used to on certain apps.
The app i'm using to get the Immersive mode toggle is ShortCutter Quick Settings - from the play store.
Dumb question: how to activate the immersive mode?

right? I wish it were as simple as it being in the settings....but it's not.
There's another way I saw this morning, but you need to be able to use adb - and you should know how!

Exactly! what would be perfect is the opaque way it looks on the launcher screen. I've looked everywhere and tried all different things but for some reason thats just not a thing! Would be so good is Navbarapps had an option to toggle transparency

but they don't.....
Am I wrong? When I just got the S8 it seems most apps had the nav bar transparent. Even twitter, Chrome, etc.
Now it's always black. Only transparent/ opaque in some Samsung native apps.
I thought the whole point was to make it less bezel.
Any idea what's going on?

If you hide the nav bar with this app how do you access it then and move/ navigate around=? Can it be swiped up or something?

you bet.
Found this on Reddit. Dunno if the user is on XDA. But I'll post this for them anyways. Im interested as well.
https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/comments/9wi0sl/6t_anyway_to_make_apps_ignore_the_teardrop_notch/
How to enable FULL immersive mode (no status bar) and not have a black bar as a replacement?
When I had the Essential Phone, I was able to whitelist any app to disregard the existence of the notch and pretend like it wasn't there.
Take a look here: https://youtu.be/NLnMXtxz4f8
And here: https://www.xda-developers.com/essential-phone-force-apps-fill-screen/
I ran an adb script to remove the status bar, but that only places a black bar where the status bar would be.
A modification like what the Essential Phone has would be great since the teardrop notch is so minimal that it should not have any negative impact on FULL SCREEN apps (unlock the pixel 3xl *coughs) .
There's a setting under 'Display', 'App display in fullscreen' where you can choose the apps you want to display full screen.. Is this what you're looking for?

I think you're correct. Only problem is that a lot of apps do not show up in this setting. Youtube and Gmail for one. And it's not just Google apps, either.
Another problem I've ran into when trying to do this is lag/jitter when scrolling when immersive mode is turned on. If I turn immersive mode off and reboot the phone the lag is gone and the phone is buttery smooth. If I turn immersive mode back on, the lag is immediately back. Any ideas why this might be?
Since the four corners of the screen are not square as with my old phone, it appears certain apps are not taking that into account and as a result, information is being cut off from view. See attached screenshot... does anyone have any suggestions or do I need to consider returning this phone because that is just crazy
To be more clear particularly the bottom left corner(in this example) nearly half of the time information is blocked from view
Yeah, I see that as well in apps that try to use the whole screen
Is it because you are using navigation gestures?

In that specific example, I suppose yes. But even with nav bar enabled, watching a video in landscape the same thing happens.. it's pretty annoying
