It seems that the battery drain on my newest N7 (RMA'd first one) is waay worse than on the other, I'll attach some screen shots of what I mean.. it may be just the WiFi is using a lot more than the other's :S I left it 4 hours alone with WiFi and the battery drained 20+ % which even with WiFi on seems excessive does it not? Is it possible I got one with a faulty WiFi radio? I will be testing tomorrow (or maybe tonight) to see battery drain with WiFi turned off to compare, because it also seemed to drain fast when I was just out and about with WiFi off :/ worried I have bad battery, deep sleep isn't working right (it is going into deep sleep or at least thinks it is from looking at cpuspy), or faulty WiFi... or just too early to judge XD has anyone noticed battery improve over time ? I forget if I did was a month ago I got the original
BTW first screen shot was taken pretty much right as I was leaving for work, so you can compare the battery drain there..

I doubt it's a bad wifi radio, its probably an app that is syncing like crazy in the background.
I'm currently watching the MediaServer app use a disproportionate amount of battery (14% and rising). I deleted a number of images which must of kicked in the scanner which must be very inefficient.
I also noticed my N7 become very slow at the same time.
Possibly you downloaded a large amount of images/music/etc before putting your device to sleep...

I really wish I could figure out why maps keeps starting a process.. can you check to see how many instances of maps there are ? In particular one running Prefetcherservice.. as for the other comment, media server is sitting at 6%, android is at 14%, and screen at 67%.. though I did copy a bunch of songs and pictures over after the RMA, is there a way to fix these or should I delete them to see if it gets better ?

As a side question.. how hot does your tablet get under normal use? Mine has been heating up quite a bit in the battery section i think with just average on browser use :/

Bahaha good one I dunno, the problem is that this is literally my fourth N7 since the other three allll suffered from major screen lifting, so maybe I am looking for something wrong just so i can make sure it's perfect... Though I do think the battery life is pretty weak, I think I may have figured SOMETHING out, the only difference between this and my original is that my original had a huge section of the map of my area downloaded, and since I did that maps hasn't started any additional processes.. so good sign ? maybe ? haha

Yeah this might be a good time to stop looking for trouble and just enjoy the tablet for a while. I drop mine on the charger in the morning and don't ever really think about the battery other than that. Whatever the battery stats say now they won't say in a week and they won't say after you flash to a different ROM. If you have wifi on apps will sync and the tablet will loose it's charge. I'm never far enough away from an outlet to make it much of a concern. So maybe just take a breather, install the Angry Birds and have some fun for a bit. Eventually we'll have ROM's and kernels that make this thing sip electricity but for now I get the few hours a day I need out of it on one charge so I'm set.

You think the battery life will get much better than what it is? My only other android experience is my HTC Desire Z which has a horrible battery as it is so it didn't improve much at all with custom roms
Speaking of improved life through ROMs and kernels, have you noticed any kernel providing particularly better battery life ? I'm on trinity right now, no voltage changing, but underclocked to 1.1 ghz from 1.3
Factory reset, see if the problem continues. That's the only way decide if it's a HW problem.
And my N7 uses effectively 0% battery in standby, it was off the charger yesterday for 6 hours and when I started playing around it was still at 99%. I turn off wifi on screen off, however.
Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 to find out what's waking up your phone, the apk is in the second post. Install, charge it up, unplug, leave for 4 hours idle then look at partial wakelocks and alarms.
I saved quite a bit of standby time by disabling location services and Facebook.
If your not using nfc that could save battery?

I used Better Battery Stats to figure out Google Maps was causing wakelocks. I cleared data in the maps app and now my 7 idles without much battery drain at all.

So it seems like partial wakelock is mostly audioout_2 which i assume comes from me playing a game with music amongst other things?
Alarms says com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox has 50 wakeups, and maps has 38 :S why does maps keep trying to kill me?! and what is the googlequicksearchbox doing waking the tablet up...
Wlan_Rx_wake seems to be the culprit of semi bad battery. Is there a way to prevent the tablet from waking up all the time? Maybe just unsync or turn off WiFi instead?

When my battery drain was bad I had something like 250+ wakeups from maps under the alarms section in only a few hours off the charger and Maps was showing up as the most common reason for partial wakelocks.
I think AudioOut_2 is normal - Im not sure what it does though. Im now at 8+ hours of standby with 99% battery. Under alarms im showing 138 Maps wakeups and 76 from google quick search box. My drain is all gone now though so i assume this is within normal range. The better battery stats thread and a few other threads on XDA have detailed descriptions of the different battery draining wakelocks and possible remedies. Not all wakelocks are bad though.

Battery life looks pretty good to me. Idle is not off. If you want better battery life, turn the nexus off when not in use.

No, and it's not recommended for this kernel. You probably have some application using the CPU. And keep in mind, that's over 3.5 days, so it's not too be worried about.

Not really sure what you are looking for.
Your tablet is configured differently (read: installed apps & their settings, never mind ROM & kernel differences) than the next person's, and those configuration changes alter the activity on the device and therefore the amount of power it consumes vs time. If what you observe is unacceptable to you, you need to drill down into the details to try and optimize things. But it really is impossible for anybody to guess (from a completely blind position on the other side of the internet) what might be the cause; if that is indeed anomalous consumption compared to some benchmark (pure stock, no market apps installed & a dormant gmail account?), the cause could be due to an unlimited number of different causes.
Perhaps you want to use that app BetterBatteryStats ($2.89) to find out about wake lock usage.
FWIW, my rooted stock 4.2.2 N7 grouper tab seems to discharge about 4% "overnight". Call that 10 hrs or so, so maybe I should expect 10% discharge per day while idle and unplugged. Your result seems to suggest 16%/day; but I've made no effort to dig in to things on my end of things - and besides: my results are irrelevant to yours as I no doubt use a different collection of apps than you and possibly different settings for the stock apps, too.
In my case the idle drain rate isn't a very compelling use case - I use the tablet every day, and when it is idle it is plugged into its' charger. If it should happen that it sat idle for a couple days, it's gonna be at 100% when I decide to use it.

Around 6 days of standby, and you want to improve that?
If you want to improve that, turn off your tablet. I'm sure u can spare those 60 sec two times a day you turn on your tablet to check mail.
Keep WiFi off when not in use and you should see a great improvement. I use stock kernel and over that same time period my battery is about the same with about 3 hours screen on time. I only turn WiFi on when I'm actually using it as anything I need synced goes to my phone.

Try better battery stats and see what keeps your cpu from going to sleep state..With this way you can examine what drains your battery my friend.,.
Try turning off auto-sync. (Data usage settings)
Never keep wifi on when sleep (you will lose notification to chat programs, social network app notifications when sleeping)
Use wifi powersafe mode.(Wifi advance settings)
Turn off/disable unneeded background update/apps/extensions/services and flash a rom with minimal google stock apps)
Of course, check for apps that are currently consuming power if any. (App settings, internal application setting)
M kernel also defaults cpu max to 1500Mhz ; stock is 1200. M kernel also sets gpu to 446Mhz ; stock 416Mhz. Altho this numbers might seem minimal, it can affect your battery life considerably shall there be background processing or even right after you start using your device again despite minimally in your case. (Use n download trickstermod)
These might or might not help you in getting more standby time, try and experiment =>
If you are also looking for more screen on time and if you know and accept the risks, you can try undervolting the cpu, gpu and ram in trickstermod, you can also use rootdim to go lower the screen backlight further, but do not go lower than value 4/255 as that is 'off'. thankfully you can set it to not go below 4 in the in app settings before you play with it. My configuration pushed to 8hrs+ screen time without any gaming =>
Do note that li-ion/poly batteries need to drain over time for batt health reasons. They generally last longer if kept in the 20-80% range. Room temp can also affevt battery drain significantly, cold < 26C room drains the batt real fast; and so does hot rooms >34c due to temp & conductivity relationships (batt needs to suply more due to less conductivity in the circuits when hot)

after I overclocked my device and used custom ROM to reduce lag the battery was drains fast and overheat and I used the factory image(in android 4.3) to get the stock kernel and stock ROM my device not overheat anymore but still drains fast and the charger sometimes when my device is on charges slooowly and sometimes while it plugged in it don't charge it decrease 1 percent and stop charging while playing any game and the charger smell like burnt and it charge first while my device is off but that didn't happen to me before the overclock,
I want to know I there are way to increase battery life and fix the charger problem,

A Few Apps For Battery Life
There are a couple things I would do, first is you need to monitor what is draining the battery. One thing to note though is your OC is obviously going to drain the battery quicker than stock and your governor setting could also affect this a lot. I am guessing your custom ROM has a non-stock kernel with it, if not I would recommend Franco's Kernel (r75 is the latest) and he even has an app that will keep you updated and flash for you (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel&hl=en) there is also a free version of that. Franco's paid app has a built in power settings option that lets you adjust power usage per app that could be extremely useful in your case. However I would do some monitoring first and make sure a live wallpaper or a hardware monitor is not draining more battery than you think it is.
I've used these two apps and both do a great job of letting you know what is using the battery most during load/idle/sleep:

Just restart your N7. The battery draining issue would go away for about 5 days. This trick works for me

So I got my Nexus 4 on April. I was super happy with my phone and already knew how to root and install custom ROM's. So throughtout the last couple months I've installed custom ROM's and kernels. Well with several ROMS's and kernels my phone began to overheat a lot so my solution was to install another kernel to see if it worked. For example: the Franco kernel overheated my phone a lot and I asked myself if it was normal, I still don't know if it is. Since August, I've noticed I have horrible battery life. I have to charge my phone constantly frequently and can't use it a long time. So I flashed my phone to stock to see what happened with the battery and it stayed the same. So I don't know what to do. I'm not sure what damaged the battery but I think it might have been the overheating or all the ROM's and kernels i've installed. Please help!

its not overheating. if it overheats, the phone will shut itself down. what is your average cpu temp when the phones idle? battery temp when the phones idle? most likely its your own setup. apps that open in the background, and apps that sync. it can also be your signal, as lower quality signals drain battery fast. anyways, do you have many apps with notifications? do you have facebook installed? greenify is a good app to start with, for controlling your apps that is. the key to good battery life is controlling your apps, and setting up your phone to not waste battery.
I would highly recommend backing up all your data from your phone to your computer and flashing the google stock image through fastboot (there are youtube videos to walk you through that if you have never done it before). If you still have severe battery issues after that, then you can confidently say your battery is damaged.
It's normal for the phone to get hot.
Try other kernels, personally stock & Franco both have me terrible battery, HellsCore is giving me great battery though.

When the phone is idle, it gets to 31°C and on normal use (facebook, instgram) it gets to 38°C. I actually have good care of the battery. I always have Wifi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and Sync off. And I have Automatic Brightness. And I don't have much apps with notifications.

I actually have already done that. I did throught the Nexus Root Toolkit. And it didn't help. And i'f I replace the battery will that solve my problem?

I actually used Faux123 and it gave me great battery life. But when I updated to PA 3.6 or 3.9, I installed it but it actually sent me to a weird yellow error screen when I tried to boot up the phone, so I had to flash stock to the phone to restore it. Which ROM that works with PA 3.99 would you recommend for battey life?
Like others have pointed out.. Your phone wasn't over heating. The N4 has a glass back. Glass is able to move heat very well pulling of from the inside and irradiating of outwards which will make it feel hot. My battery temp runs me between 80 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit.. (Or between 26 and 40.. Something C. ) never had an issue..
As for your poor battery life.. What Lind of screen on time are you getting? What a full charge last you with said screen on time.. Do you make or take a lot of phone calls?
It all comes down to usage .. Your screen and voice calls will obliterate battery. among other things.

those are normal temps, some might even be jealous of them. the ambient temp also plays a role in your phones temperatures.. the warmer its around you, the warmer your phone will be/get(or vice versa).
as someone pointed out, voice calls impact the battery greatly as well. calls take a lot of battery juice. also, facebook is a know app that like to misbehave, and take your battery, when not even using it.

Good evening,
I have read all over that people are complaining about the horrible battery drain and I would be one of them. If I am lucky I will get 12 hours from a battery while at work (metal building with mediocre reception) and 18 hours while outside without any reception problems.
I have been suspecting that an app is running in the background that could be causing the battery drain but I haven't been able to find it. So, I am wondering if I can get some help in finding what might be running to make the battery life a little bit better. Attached are screenshots.

Thought 12 - 18 hours would be a decent time to have on 4.3?
It's more than likely Google Now running in the background so you should try turning that off

I have exactly the same problem. I did install GE rom on my galaxy s4 for few days. I am a little a "newbi" in this kind of things. Even I spend my afternoon on the forum to find an answer, I am not able to know what I have to do now.
Briefly, here are my stats :
On battery : 8h7m
Screen on : 3h9m
Remain : 5 %
I publish herewith the resume of BetterBatteryStats. If anyone can "interpret" that and tell me if there is something wrong, that would be great !

I checked and Google Now has been turned off. I also have had Google Maps location reporting turned off (read that might drain the battery).
Using cyanogenmod provides me around 1 and a half days. .... but I usually have to kill all Google services ...
Using Easy Battery Saver on Intelligent Mode I can get about a day or more use, mimimal though, and still have at least 50% battery left.

I have tried running it with the settings suggested and it has not made much of a difference. I took my phone off of change at 5:15 this morning and I am now getting a low battery warning.
Attached are screenshots from Battery Status Plus. Is there anything else I can do?

Not enought info, but seems to be a partial wakelocks problem. More screenshots needed (stock setting battery graphs and partialmwakelocks in battery stats)

Use wakelock detector, that app you are using gives very little useful information
If you have rooted device I suggest to Install "Greenify" app. it close (hibernate) all unused apps when your device is idle (standby)

Hi,
do you have only battery drains or also random reboots?
the fact is that samsung shipped out a bad serie of batteries (which is confirmed by Samsung) their serial starts with BD
the symptoms of a bad battery are:
Huge battery drain
random reboots
while rebooting the phone hangs at samsungs logo
battery is swelling
phone shutting down while you have an incomming call/sms
when you are the "lucky one" to experience one of the above symptoms please replace your battery asap under warranty
if you don't do this you risk a phone exploding in the pocket of your pants this is not only painfull for your phone but also for "everything else" whats in there

The only symptoms that I have out of that list is huge battery drain so I don't suspect that it is a bad battery.
I took some more screenshots and have attached them. I just installed the wakelock detector and will let you know how that goes.

A lot of screenshot but almost no info about battery drains (some info of data ussage, som apps consuption, etc, but nothing relevant)... It would be great if you could post screenshots of
1) settings->more->battery
2) settings->more->battery->touch the little graph
3) settings->more->battery->screen
4) any screenshot for partial wakelocks in better battery stats or that program you are using
First three screenshots are the most important and everyone should post them when a drain problem exists (no needed any third battery management app)
