I'm looking to pick up a G2 mainly to root and install some custom Roms like Miui or Cyanogenmod. Is the D802 a good choice for this or should I look to a different device, if so can you all recommend something.
As far as ROMs are concerned, there's not much difference between the G2 variants (D801, D802, LS980, VS980, etc) because most of the popular ROMs already support all the variants. The difference lies with the hardware in the devices as they support different LTE bands around the world - there's no one perfect G2 that does it all, unfortunately, and some of them like the LS980 (Sprint model) and the VS980 (Verizon, with wireless charging support built in, the only G2 that does) have not only GSM radios but also CDMA so ROMs need to cover that as required.
The best solution is find the G2 that supports what you need supported, especially for LTE capability in your area (if a G2 can handle it, that is) and then that would most likely be the one for you.
Quite frankly, when I got my D802 I sort of regretted not importing a F320 S/K.
The ability of plugging in a MicroSD, a replaceable battery (although a tad smaller) and first to get updates seemed like a better deal.
But for custom roms, a D802 is really the way to go. Most roms are built for the D802 and the support is just outstanding. On the other hand, it's much harder to find roms that fully support the F320.
Don't bother with D805/6, they're practically a D802 with some added headache here and there. If you are on an American carrier you'll have to pick the variant specific to your carrier.
In short - go with the D802 if you want the best Rom support and development.
Go for a F320 if you want replaceable battery, micro SD and faster updates.

Well I suppose there is 2 main streams of G2 at the moment the D803/802 international version/verizon/at&t and F320s/f/L which is the korean variant. The main difference is that korean variant has removable but smaller battery at 2610mah and the micro sd card slot. The LTE for korean variant might not work with the US counterparts due to different frequency.

So we already have at least 5 versions here:
D803
D802
F320s
F320f
F320L
As I live in Europe I would like to know the differences between D802 and D803.
[UPDATE]
I found that Wikipedia has some details, but too few about the actual differences.
Not to mention the Verizon version happen to be a wee bit thicker as it supports wireless charging.

Found this is gsmarena, seems like they are available for different country and catered for different teleco I suppose, specs wise all the same
LG G2 D802 for UK
LG G2 D802TA for Australia
LG G2 D803 for Canada
I really love my G2, even with the ridiculous changes Verizon made for their model. Thanks in part to xdabbeb's G2 rom, I might add.
However, I'd really love the ability to swap SD cards and battery, and I'm seriously considering getting the Korean model as I see myself keeping that model for several years (I could keep this VS980, but the goddamn rear keys and removed speaker annoy me too much.)
I've found one or two topics that sort of talk about the radio compatibility, but I'd like to ask for not only the feasibility of using a Korean G2 in the USA, but what I would need to do to make it possible.
Hi XDA & LG G2 Users,
I am planning for a ling time to get LG G2, so finally I make up my mind to get one. I am currently using Samsung S3 LTE 2GB RAM version and I switching because of the battery timing of the stock battery...as its only 2100 MHZ I guess so..whereas the LG G2 have 3100 Mhz i think.. which is like yehhhhh Now I have one concern that here in my country almost every G2 variant is available in market i.e. Korean F series, AT&T D801, to Sprint & T-Mobile and every variant is working on all cellular operators in my country... but there is one model that is LG G2 D802 which is international model.. Please suggest me which model should I but, because if I will buy korean so on that variant we cant use edge here.. but any body here can please confirm that which model have better dev support here.. which model have better and more ROMs as currently there are very less ROMs for my S3 LTE whereas for SGS3 9300 model there are alot of ROMs and mods. So some times I feel quite sad that why my model have not much ROMs as compare to S3 with 1GB RAM,
So, I don't want to be sad once I purchase G2 ... so guys please suggest me, which variant is good like, hassle free from installing modems to get the network work.. like most of the Korean variants we have to flash separate patch after installing ROMs or there will be many many issues regarding signals... I hope that you'll understand my concern what I've asked for...
Looking forward for your replies and suggestions...
My Galaxy s3 just died this morning So I'm thinking of buying a new phone. But I don't have too much budget on my hands. My needs are:
1) Good community support: I want to buy phone which has Stable CM12.1 release. Please let me know are there any major bugs on cm12.1 roms for i9500 ?
2) Good Camera: I believe s4 has one
3) Expandable Memory
4) Good battery backup
5) Good Display
Also the US cousin of i9500 i.e. i9505 is also available for little more, but if I go for that I would lose warranty and will also spend little more. So is it worth to go for i9505 ? I know it has 4g which i9500 doesn't have. But how good are the lollipop ROM stability on i9505, is it more stable ? Any other things which I'm missing out ?
Also I have option to go for oneplus one, but I don't know how good is the quality of phone when compared with Samsung ? I want to use it for atleast next 2-3 years
Avoid US models of S4 unless from T-Mobile (M919). The AT&T (I337) and Verizon (I545) models come with locked bootloaders which make customization difficult. The Verizon and Sprint (L720) models use CDMA instead of the global standard GSM, making them difficult to use outside of the US.
Canadian devices don't have the bootloader or CDMA issues, but if you live anywhere in Europe you will want the I9505. The LTE bands of US and Canadian devices are different, and you may get slow LTE, if any LTE at all. Whether Android 5.x.x runs well on it is a matter of opinion. Some will swear by it while others curse it. You'll have to try it out for yourself.
The I9500 has no LTE but also has little custom ROM support. I don't recommend it.
oh, I thought i9500 had good ROM support
Anyway will look for others then..thanks
Will go for LG G2 d800 then..
That's a good choice, but you were contemplating the OnePlus One as well. What made you select the G2 over the One?
G2 camera got ois ..only thing I miss in s4.. one plus one and yuphoria got official cm os .. greatly customizable

One plus one is only 16gb, 64gb is expensive
I'm getting g2 32gb for lot less, even cheaper than one plus 16gb..hardware/ram pretty much same between them two..
I'm looking for a new phone. Earlier I was considering galaxy s4 i9500 but I'm thinking of going for g2 as it has better community support However, I see international version d802 is about $50 costlier than us d800 version
Hardware wise I've compared they both seem same. So does it make sense to spend extra $50, as I see the ROMs support all the variants ? Is there anything I'm missing out ?
Also, is LP 5.1.1 stable on g2 ? I'm specifically looking for CM based roms
well bump?
