Hi.
When i go to sleep after a normal day my battery is around 60%
Yesterday it was only 85% after a full day of usage.
I sleep around 4 - 5 hours at night. That is how long i charge my phone, its allways charging when i sleep.
But is it bad if my phone is charging for so long even if my battery was not complete empty ?

wow. That's great battery. I also usually charge my phone overnight, but I have <10% when I charged it.
I think it will damage the battery somehow, but I can't confirm this, many people have better battery knowledge rather than me, so just wait them to answer it.
But I wanna give suggestions, if your full day use is just consume max 40% batt, just put it in flight mode or turn it off overnight, so you still have enough juice for the next day.
I think it's more battery friendly rather than charge it overnight while still have alot juice in it.
I think it's better to put it in ultra power saving mode instead so you won't miss any important calls or texts.
It is lithium, replaceable battery. Either enjoy it fully charged or buy spare battery and craddle/charger to replace dead one when needed. It only will last so long and you may need replacement in about 2 years anyway.

no its fine. if you want to increase charging time get a Qi charger which takes 5 hours to charge anyway.
Not much to worry about when the battery is user replaceable. You'll be fine, but even if you're not, you can get a brand new OEM battery for 30-35 USD.
No it isnt.. I have 3 years old galaxy s3 i have been always charging it overnight.. Still no issue.. Working good

My X2's battery seems charging in eternity. Have it plugged almost half a day and still is charging. I'm always turning my X2 off when I'm going to charge it, so I can see the battery icon when it's full. But this one's crazy, when I turn on my phone and looked at how many percent that it has been charged...it says 100%. But then again when I turned it off (still plugged to a charger)...it's still is charging.

Same issue as mine. I wonder what's causing this?
dont worry
this is the problem that many of us are facing with.
no way to get rid of. phone jast charges till 100%, and illumination stops , but the status remains charging. but really its stopped. the charger and battery both get cool.
Had anyone of you did try to send it to SE service center to address this issue?
Many times when I charge the phone the % indicater will just stay at whatever it was when I plugged in the charger. If unplugg the charger for a few seconds and reconnect it again the % indicater will update.
It's just one of those bugs.....

It's better to leave the phone on when charging, that way the OS itself can control power management.

This is a question that is very difficult to answer as it depends on which applications you are running and how you use your phone.
Earlier this week I experienced that the battery dropped from 100% in the morning to less than 20% around 5 PM after having used the phone quite frequently throughout the day.
Yesterday I used the phone very little and from 100% battery yesterday morning I'm now down to 59% after 26 hours of use.
If you want your battery to last make sure you:
- turn off the screen when you do not use the phone
- turn off WiFi and Bluetooth
- don't use the radio
- turn of GPS
Maby someone else have more tips on how to get the battery to last.
here issue is not standby of battery-it is simple charging time and unacceptability of x2 to stop charging procedure. it just go on and on with charging(it does not display when it the battery is full it display that it is still charging-even if the phone is on charger more then 10h!!)

Sometimes I can use it all day and still have somewhere around 40% to 60% left at the end of the day. If I don't use it that much, it will maybe drop 10% per day. I have gone 3 days once without needing to swap my battery.
I have a standalone charger and 3 batteries. So I swap out the batteries from there every time it is low. It could be possible that the standalone charger does a better job of charging to full capacity.
EDIT: I also leave my 3G on always!
My battery lasts 3 days, about 30min of talk every day,5-10sms,20-30min of wifi,3g is off,gps not using yet...so that is about that.

3 days? And mine was just about....damn!
I have NEVER EVER had a phone that took so LONG to charge up!
Is it just mine? Maybe it's defective? What on earth did they do?!
Takes probably like HOURS to get to 100% with the screen, bt,wifi OFF!
And what's crazy is that after the phone says it's fully charged I unplug and the battery meter drops to 96-97%%. THAN it takes more time to get to 100% again.
If I didn't like this phone so much I take it back so fast!
Does you phone take really long to fully charge?
The charger is slower. This helps extend battery life typically.

Really? Didn't know that. Can I get a faster charger then? I'd rather my batter charged in 20 min and have to get a new battery every couple months than have to wait nearly four hours.
Other than that I'm loving this thing.
Do you not charge it when you goto bed? When I wake up mine is fully charged. I don't check to make sure its 97% or anything like that, but when I goto bed its been known to have around 70%.
Of course mine is coming off the charger at 6am and I normally goto bed around 10:30-11:00pm.
As for charging a battery for 20minutes and having it full I've never seen that in any phone I've ever owned. You could buy a quick charging car plug, but personally I wouldn't recommend it for charging all the time.

Of course I do. But I use my phone way more than most people. So I have to charge at least once during the day. And that takes forever. I'm going to have to buy and extra battery with external battery charger to just SWAP!
Glad this is "normal" thought my phone was defective.

Well I'm coming from a old phone that would charge to full in about an hour and be functional for 3 days. I didn't expect that with this phone (with the sweet screen and processor) but I am barely making 24 hours. I don't have GPS or Wifi on all the time and keep my screen on a low brightness setting. I AM playing around with it all the damn time though.
Anyway a normal charge at night works most of the time but it's good to know I can get a faster charger for the times when I need the power right away.
Also, any way to see the battery usage for the life of the device?
That's a smart phone for you. Never had a smart phone that would last more than 2 days tops, and that's with light use. But with moderate to heavy use,a day is it, maybe even a quick charge in the afternoon depending on how heavy the use.

If the Nokia e72 is considered a smartphone that phone lasted for days!
I know it has a small screen and all that but still, the battery was AMAZING!
I have had it plugged into the mains, running tunein radio through wifi and its gone from 85% to 86% in one hour.
If I charge from 10% with phone off it takes about 4 hours to fully charge
If I charge from 10% with my phone on running stuff, it actually never gets to fully charges by the time I finish work...at 6pm
Sorry to keep comparing to the dreaded FruitPhone, but that would charge whilst running wifi and tunein from 10% to 100% in about 2 hours.
I am beginning to think my SGS2 is faulty
i am fiding it takes about 3 hours to charge from empty . It does take a long time indeed but i guess it is what we have to do for a 1650mah battery
3 hours from empty with stock charger .
jje
it might well be a 1650 battery, but it starts to get unusable when it takes all day to charge then a few hours to loose it all.
This phone is the greatest but the battery life just completely destroys it, I am beginning to think I made the wrong choice

Aye... if I don't the bloomin thing would be dead by lunchtime, and I listen to music.
So I basically have to turn it off not use it so I can charge it, how crap is that, owned my iphone a year never had any problems with battery and I always used and charged in its dock.
The desire had slow charging too but snq- fixed this in his kernels maybe we can port his fix to our kernels
btw it's true li-ion batteries degrade quicky when the heat up (or completely charge or discharge)
From 30% it took me one hour and a half to fully charge..
I recommend to download battery mix as it takes very good statistic on the battery life and one can tell exactly how long it takes to charge and discharge
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
just for the record all Lion batteries in phones never fully discharge or recharge, as there balanced by a balancing chip.
when you get to the likes of 0% you actually have 20% charge, thats why you can power on the phone but it will immediately switch off again. like wise, charging you never reach 100%, it's more like 89%, again because of how Lion works.
if you fully discharged and fully recharged, well put it simply you'd have a lot of exploding phones, fire and chemical burns...
Interesting!
My phone charges in about 2,5 - 3 hours, so should be normal...
But charging with the usb cable connected to the pc it takes much longer.
Any of you experience the same thing?
greets!

Because:
a) That´s how Li-Ion-batteries are charged. To fully charge a Li-Ion-battery you need 3-4h.
b) The power-supply is pretty weak. It is just enough to charge the phone at decent speed, but it is not enough to charge it and intensely use it the same time. In this case much of the power is used by the phone and there is not enough left to do a proper charging. I use a 1,2A power-supply from my old Nokia, and while it won´t speed up charging itself, at least it slows down less when I´m using the phone while charging.
Sorry to keep comparing to the dreaded FruitPhone, but that would charge whilst running wifi and tunein from 10% to 100% in about 2 hours.

This is not possible. The mighty fruity-phone may tell you it is 100% charged, but certainly it isn´t
You can charge a Li-Ion-battery very fast from 0 to 70-85% you could reach this in 1h. But you have to charge the remaining 15-30% very slowly, otherwise the voltage would raise too much and destroy your battery.
The so called saturation-stage (the charging-stage until 100%) takes longer the faster you charged at the beginning. If you really charged until the saturation-stage in 1h, the saturation-stage will take 2-3h.
If you charge slower, so you reach saturation-stage after 2h, the saturation-stage will only take 1-2h anymore.
In the end it will always take 3-4h to fully charge a Li-Ion-cell, regardless how strong your power-supply is.
Another few notes:
Charging will get slower the fuller the battery already is.
Using the phone with low battery-percentage will lengthen the charging-time quite a bit, a stronger power-supply could help.
Getting the last 20% in a Li-Ion-cell will always be very slow, usage of the phone won´t influence this a lot, and a stronger power-supply can´t help.
It doesn´t matter much, how much charge is left in the battery, to fully charge it it will always take long, as you spend most of the time in the saturation-stage (the higher the left percentage is, the more time you spent in saturation-stage)

it takes so long to charge because samsung capped the charge current at 650 mA in the battery driver. but other phones like HTC allow charging at the full 1 amp. so that's why its a slow charge, and why its possible to drain the battery even while plugged in to the charger.
Now who wants to ask kernel developers to increase that to .850 or 1 amp and use that lol.
I believe lack of heatsink due to design is the culprit behind decision to cap it at .650.

3 hrs to fully charge, and as i use tunein radio a lot i can tell you on my device with the screen off, wifi on with tunein running, it still seems to take no more than 3 hours maybe 15 mins more at most
I am probably going to order a cheap eBay Li-Ion battery that's 1800mAH and likely has a charge cap closer to 1000mAH. I will know in a week when I finally get my phone and report back if that battery helps. I expect it to heat up while charging and am going to use an external charger.
Two replacement batteries and an external charger go for about $12 USD on eBay btw.
Is it possible to ruin my phone's battery due to overcharging? I charge my phone overnight no matter what percentage it is on, I still charge it I know this is bad, but can this ruin the battery? thanks
You should be able to charge as long as you want w no problems as long as you're doing this in a cool or room-temp environment (rather than say leaving it alone in a car charging at high noon w AC off, windows down & no sun shades on the windshield). If you have your phone charging in hi-temp conditions too long\often your battery swells & you get gradual irreparable damage.

If u make a correct use of your battery it won't get damaged. Extreme overclock, overvolt, etc can ruin your battery, but if u charge it every day because ur battery is empty it's ok, and u won't have any problem.

Normally, when your phone reaches 100 % full battery level, it stops charging and starts discharging. At around 95 % level, it starts charging again. This all takes a toll on the battery, especially over a long period.
If your phone's battery is at or above 50%, leave it alone or turn it off for the night.
I have an external battery pack for use during the day time, just for situations like this.

It'll automatically stop charging itself when it's full, it's impossible to overcharge a modern cell phone battery these days. They are a bit more computerized than the old nicad batteries from back in the day. It's actually healthier to give lithium batteries partial charges at a time instead of draining to zero percent and charging to 100 percent.

I doubt it. Could be a faulty battery, but more likely to be apps draining it in the background. Install BetterBatteryStats and see what is using the battery.

How do you know your battery is getting worse if it's always charging?
My personal experience is the less you charge it, the better it will perform. However, when you DO charge it, make sure you are less than 30% battery and charge it to 100% before removing it.
For me it's easy, I basically charge my phone at night when I go to bed and that's it. I easily get through an entire day on this phone, though I admit I usually only have about 2-1/2 hours screen on time (I mostly use my tablet when I am at home)
Yesterday when I woke up my G2 has 20% battery left, then I charge it to 80%. Then in the evening I charge it again 40%-80%. Then today I woke up again, (In the first SS)I'm just curious why is my "Usage in Battery" reaches 46 hours 29 minutes? It combines the usage on the other day and yesterday. "Expected time to use" is 61 hours, but I know it is not accurate because when I started playing games for like 10mins it goes down to 1hour left haha. And in the second SS, I'm assuming that it also combines the Screen time of the other day and yesterday.
a 20%-80%=60%
b 40%-80%=40%
c a + b = 100% I think it is 1 full cycle and should turn my battery Usage to 0 min again.
Is this normal? I don't really understand how G2's battery works.
I usually charge my G2 two times a day because of games. And charges it when it reaches below 40% to 80%. I don't really drain it and charge it to 100%. Am I doing it right?
