Can any one tell me how to root a new Verizon s5 with nk2

root nk2
read this page carefully and follow the guide contained within it . Get the file downloads from the page. You'll also need odin and samsung drivers which you can get from the first page of the thread,

Other than the codes in the directions no. Make sure you are on the NCG stock kernel otherwise TR won't work.

Download this file only, as I said all the files you will need are in the zip. You will only be using the G900V_NCG_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 file first and the NK2_Kernel.tar.md5 last in Odin. When you run Odin you will use the AP button to select the tar.md5 files. Leave everything else as it is, do not check any other check boxes. Using Odin is pretty well explained in the instructions. Just follow them, relax and do not add any other instructions to the process.

One thing you must understand is that your problem is not unique.. which means if you search you will find . My two cents, Make you have both the correct .PIT file and make sure you are selecting PDA when you flash the firmware or it will fail at the half way mark.
This will return your phone to stock nothing to enter just click

I've been trying all day to get my epic updated to froyo but during recovery installation I keep gettin a message saying E:error in sdcard/update.zip. I've seen a guy on youtube do it and I'm using the same download and did the same steps. It was successful for him. Any help is appreciated
Have you tried searching the forums here? We have at least 2 threads going on about how to install.

Ok trying the method right now. What is the PDA slot? and how does it flash on the device? Do you need root?

Nope
Download the stock TAR file
Put the TAR file in ODIN under PDA
Plug phone in and it should get recognized
Hit start

The pda slot is a slot in odin...bottom right quarter of the screen....that's wher u put the file, I don't think you need root but I could be wrong

Ownagemaximus: better read a little more about Odin. You don't need root, only to get into download mode. And a word of advice, don't flash anything in the "phone" part. At least it isn't good for us over in fascinate land.

Hey all ive been trying to flash my orginal firmware for my galaxy s4 at&t i337. Ive been using odin 3.07 but I keep having a fail to complete error. It boots up fine and I attempted to root it but it seems like it works but I run root checker and it tells me that it has rooted incorrectly. A lot of other people have been saying that samsung block this exploit in 4.2.2 and im basically screwed till the new update comes out. Ive tried everything, help would be appreciated

You're not supposed to decompress the tar file.
You need to flash the xxxxxxx.tar

Were you on mf3 firmware? If you were Odin is not going to work
Alright, so I've been doing rooting things for a long time...and never have I had this many problems. I posted something here earlier about rooting my S4, installing ROMs and having it hang on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Screen. So I figured I would try booting with Odin and re-installing a stock image. No luck. I keep getting this show up on my Galaxy S4 when I click start -- "secure check failed" and Odin shows a fail.
I don't even know where to go from here because I'm looking at an expensive paperweight at this point. Has anyone ever seen this before or even know where I can start. Any help would really be appreciated...at this point I just feel defeated.

I always get firmware from sammobile.com. Download the firmware ending in mdl. It'll be a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file from it and use that in Odin.

I'll download the firmware there and see if that solves my issue. Is there any way this could be related to the kernel? If I restore this firmware I will lose my root, correct?

You will lose root. Odin should put everything back on like it was new. You do have to register on sammobile to download the firmware, but it's free.

[Q] Help Please, stuck in odin mode and "software not recognized by AT&T "
So I got a new phone and I thought that this would be a great opportunity to learn how to do things on my own with my phones, Lucky me my new phone (Nexus 5) is way easier to root and do the fun stuff... but not my Galaxy S4
trying to odin back to stock I got stuck in Download mode and later i got a msg saying "Software not recognized by AT&T was found in your device" and on the top line in red said "Secure Fail: Kernel"
How can I flash the kernel and the new recovery ?
remember I am a Noob trying to learn, so go easy on me
What file were you trying to flash with odin? Do you have a link? Also, what firmware version was your phone on? The version you're trying to flash in Odin had to be at least as new as what your phone was on.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
The boot loader is locked. This means that the stock recovery and kernel cannot be replaced. Also, you cannot Odin flash firmware that contains a boot loader with a lower version than the one you are currently running.

If it's running show I would flash the mdl firmware again without the pit file. Then root it with motochoper and put twrp on it. Then flash a custom rom.
