note 4 SM-N910C Unresponsive touch screen sometimes - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey i bought my note 4 like 4 days ago and i have weird issue sometimes it rarely happens but when i open apps and such my screen becomes Unresponsive for like 20-30 seconds and then works up fine whats with that?i am really started to worry about it...it happens rarely..but still it worries the heck out of me...should i return it to the store where i bought it and demand a new one?

anyone?

hi
yes i think its better for you
to return the device for check...
i have my device for over 1 month and its always fast and responsive

normal if youre using an app with a lot of computation at the start like streetpilot.
its the app taking up all the cpu and hogging the screen.
but only a few apps should show this issue.

Anyone noticing random freezes?

Alright I got my grey 16gb yesterday and played with it all night. One thing I noticed was how sometimes the screen would freeze and become unresponsive at certain places. Like when I was trying to setup my settings, it just froze. I could press the home button and it will work, but continue to be unresponsive on the home screen. It happened about 5 times last night. Anyone else noticing something similar? Thanks.

I haven't noticed that yet, but I am on my second tan because of light bleeding.
Edit: I did have a soft reboot randomly. Hopefully Samsung will push an update to fix some of these issues (like slow browser typing).

Is it possible an app could have caused freezing like that? After restoring it, i had my gf use it all day while i was at work and she said no freezing or lag what so ever.

Yep, stuff like that happens sometimes. I wouldn't think anything of it, unless it happens it all the time.

Nexus 7 Overheating and bugging

This night, I was playing Beach Buggy Blitz and suddently, I began to have graphics glitches. The screen turned kind of violet tinted and was teared apart at the bottom but the game was still playing fine without crashing. So I quit the game and the same problems were present in the Android home screens. Even a complete shutdown and reboot did not had any effect. I thought that my N7 was broken for good.
But, then the screen began flickering between the good and the bad states and finally settled with the normal colors. The N7 never froze while the display was corrupted.
When this occured, I was playing with my N7 inside a leather folio case and I could sense the heat through the case. I then changed the case for a hard shell one with a plastic back and the issue returned after playing a little longer than with the leather case. I finally tried without any case and the problem did not appear although I played for a little less longer.
I had the graphics settings in BBB maxed out and this being a Tegra 3 optimized game, I wonder if this isn't the worst case scenario for the N7 when inside a closed case with a game that sollicit heavily the graphics portion of the ARM chip.
Anyone had similar overheating issues? Should I (again) think about RMAing my tablet or is this just an issue that could affect all Nexus 7 when they are put in the same conditions?
You pretty much answered and solved your own problem.

It's fine.. just the enclosed case was the issue.
My advice is to only use a case when doing light duties, or your battery will suffer for it.

He would have only had to play for maybe 20-30 minutes to cook the nexus.
I just played for 15 minutes and it made my nexus the hottest I've ever seen...
You need to understand though, unless the device is insulated there is no difference in heat between 30 minutes gaming and 30 hours gaming. Phones/tablets/computers get up to temperature quickly.

If he has his device rooted and ovrclocked that could be he reason why its overheating.. when I play with my device it doesn't get very hot
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I played for about 25 minutes when it first happened. The second time, with the hard back case, I played for 10 minutes. My Nexus 7 is rooted but not overclocked, original ROM and kernel. I reverted to a good backup and the problem was still there.
Since it happened, my N7 seems to be more problematic than before. For example, after being charged in the hard back case, I experienced the problem only 2 minutes after I started playing with it. It's as if something has been damaged by the first overheating and now it overheats pretty easily even with less demanding games.
If I can't use a case with my N7 then I must consider it defective. So, I emailed Google for a replacement this morning. Just as I started to enjoy my tablet after a first replacement (screen lift), this happens...

External temperatures can affect overall device temps as well (as in, if your sitting in a meat freezer, your Nexus 7 is very unlikely to overheat, whereas if your sitting outside in 100F weather...)

Yep.
Although OPs nexus seems to be defective if its overheating now in 2 minutes.
Since reaidng this thread a few days ago I decided to try Beach Buggy Blitz and now im hooked on it, my Nexus can handle hours of gameplay in 25c ambient.. wouldn't wana try on a really hot day because it feels really warm already.
I seem to notice more framerate slowdown as the N7 gets hotter, maybe thermal throttling.

I'm not a gamer by any stretch of the imagination. However, I experienced random reboots while I was writing a long email using Swype with my Nexus 7 in the Poetic case. When I looked, the temperature was VERY high as reported by System Tuner. I removed the case, cooled the back of the Nexus, and everything went back to normal. I WAS overclocked, so I went back to a kernel locked to stock speeds. I haven't seen any serious issues since. But it's pretty clear that if you're using a case, the Nexus can't shed heat quickly enough the way it was designed to.
I keep a closer eye on it now.
What models/build, gig and first 3-4 characters of your serial number, do you have?
I had a 16 gig (not sure) that was stayed cool. I exchanged it for a 32 gig (CAOK) and that would gets hot at random times of just usual use. It would get hot on the bottom left quarter of the back. The screen would take a huge percentage of the battery also.
I picked up another 32 gig (C9OK) and this one stays cool under normal usage.
Maybe we can isolate this to a certain model/build.
It was a C7O. I don't remember more than that, sorry. I've posted a video of the problem on Youtube and send that link to Google when asking for an RMA on their site. 90 minutes later, I had a response with all the needed info to return the tablet. On this one, I have to give Google a very positive note:good:.
I received another C7O and this one seems to be defect free. After 3 N7s, I finally started to enjoy my tablet...
same issue
same issue here.
i was playing Final Fantasy (so awesome that SquareENix ported this to Android and iOS... i remember the original version from my NES and it was a hoot. the only FF game i ever played) for about 2 hours or so and toward the end my Nexus 7 tablet got very hot, particularly on the "lower" portion of the device (side with the USB charging/tether port) ... of course, this is held in landscape mode for this game so it was my right hand that was hot.
anyway, just before starting one last awesome boss battle (right up at the Kraken with awesomely-decked out party, damn!) the game hung and the whole tablet froze. no home button functionality, no power button to even turn the screen off or on again.
had to hold power for 10 seconds, full reboot. even when the tablet came back up it was still wonky.
powered off, left it off for a while. it came back up just fine afterward, but the game didn't get to save so i'm back many levels before where i had been. no looking forward to that re-work. ah well, live and learn.

[Q] Nexus 10 Screen unresponsive/powers off

I am having issues with my 32 GB tablet. Sometimes the screen stops responding to touch and I either have to leave an app or turn off the screen and back on again to get it back. Occasionally, when I lock the screen to get it unfrozen then it doesn't come back, and restarts.
Anyone else experience anything like this?
Same here. When the screen looses responsiveness I have to reboot.

[Q] Why the HELL is the Nexus 4 so BUGGY?!?!?!

What the hell is wrong with the Nexus 4? I thought it was Google's eldest son and would care to treat it to a few bug fixes once in a while. And stock Android? Biggest joke ever in the history of man. My bloated AT&T Galaxy S4 was 100x more stable than this piece of junk. Ever since I got my phone in August, the Nexus 4 is STRIFE with bugs. I can't remember the last time I used the phone without a major bug happening in a day.
-Randomly shuts off. This is F*CKING huge. I will press the right button to turn off the screen, and it won't turn on again. I have to hold the button for like a minute straight to restart the phone. What the hell is up with this?????
-CALLING DOES NOT WORK? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A PHONE IF YOU CAN'T MAKE OR RECEIVE CALLS? I HAVE RUN INTO THIS PROBLEM ALMOST EVERY TIME I RECEIVE A CALL. I have to restart the phone, wait for 2 minutes, then call back the person. This is EXTREMELY frustrating.
-The Youtube app works like 20% of the time. I am not even kidding. I expect the app to malfunction than work. It will spin on forever or it will give an error. And no, don't ****ing tell me to restart the phone. I'm not doing that for a video.
-I have a screen lock and I can reply to text messages without unlocking the phone. What the hell is the purpose of a screen lock if I don't have to input that in?
-The battery percentage is completely off half the time. Sometimes it goes 0-100% charge in like 2 hours and sometimes it takes 5 hours. The longer it takes, the longer the battery lasts. This is so frustrating when I have to go somewhere and my battery is 20% at noon.
-The wifi won't connect sometimes and the data won't turn on even if I have full bars. I would have to wait like 15 minutes for the data to turn on.
There is literally so many bugs, I can't remember them all right now. Stock Android my ass. Someone please direct me to a bloated ROM that is stable than this hunk-o-junk.
Do you feel good screaming at nobody? Got it off your chest now. Your phone has obviously seen better days, if your that unhappy with it then don't continue to use it. My nexus 4 still runs like dream no matter what version of android I'm on. The only bugs my device has either comes with stock Google issues or custom ROM bugs. Most bugs are from dirty flashing over and over I'm sure you know that. Wi-Fi bugs would be kernel related if not hardware, your battery sounds like it's gonna catch fire soon. I can't stress enough that these issues your having require your investigating to localize wtf is going on. I hope I've helped.
You bought a phone nearly 2 years after it was released? Was it new, or did you buy it second hand? What version of Android are you running? Are you rooted? Are you running Xposed or other mods? Custom kernel? What have you or the previous owner done with it? Have you done a factory reset?
Cuz mine is 2 and a half years old, and apart from the charging port being a bit touchy with a worn power cord, it's fast and stable.
I mean, if you're looking for a solution to problems, you have to tell us what's going on. Otherwise, you just look like a fool that likes to complain about crap that nobody else (for some reason) is experiencing.
Nope... My wife's been using her N4 for two and a half years and haven't experienced any of those.
Sounds like you have a faulty device, sorry.
seems like your current device has some issues, in general nexus4 very good and fast device
The nexus 4 is not buggy. You bought a broken phone that powers off and your screaming that the phone is buggy? Use your head.

The random shut downs are annoying.. Although you'll probably find it hasn't shut down.. If it's anything like mine it will be on, but won't turn the screen in no matter what you try.
Try plugging it into a PC next time it does it.. 90% of the time it will be recognised, you can even get minimal log cat messages.. But nothing I have tried will awaken it.
Mine didn't do it from new but it's getting worse now.. Nothing seems to fix it, have reflashed many times.
The other problems aren't common on the nexus 4, but I've seen the shutdown one on a few different devices now. It's certainly not even close to all of them, but enough are starting to do it.
Sounds like you have something wrong, I am running 5.1.1 rooted, with the LTE hack, and it is fast and stable. No random reboots. You might try running a logcat and see what the issue may be. Clearly you are not looking for help, as you provide no information or detail as to your handset or specifics on the issues you are seeing. Do you feel better to vent? I would put my N4 up against any other handset, even 2 years later.
Let him scream to himself. Useless thread, it has no purpose but relieving his feelings. Here is not the place for that.
I can recreate a lot of issues OP mentioned. I also have the random shutdowns, enormous battery drains, no sound in calls, etc.. I got my phone on day 1 and it seems that these bugs get worse lately.. Unfortunately I don't have the money to buy a new phone right now, so I'll have to just live with it.. I spent countless hours trying out fixes but nothing really worked permanently..
Could all of this have to do with production batches or hardware revs? Mine is a rev11 bought new in Sep 2013, I never experienced any of these bugs (except for the sleep-of-death which I've only come across twice on KK, so not a reoccurring condition). Ironical that you haven't mentioned the ONLY widely acknowledged bug affecting the n4 (which 5.1 seems to have finally solved): the infamous camera reboot. Only Lollipop helped for me; as long as I was stuck with KK it was a feckin nightmare!
Sorry for the poem, just giving my 2 cents about what's an acknowledged bug and what is not.

Logs are free if you want some help. Could be the hardware, but without knowing details impossible to say.
I had the camera reboot once in the 7 months I've owned this phone. Happened when I went to take a picture in a message I was sending directly, which I dont do very often. That's the only reboot or crash I can remember ever happening to this phone. Nothing like my sisters s3 that freezes almost every day since she got it apparently.

Random lag is starting to piss me off..

so, it seems that whenever I'm out, my phone is slow as all hell. I'm at the store yesterday, and i pull my phone out of my pocket to take a picture of something for future reference. I hit down volume twice to launch camera... so it takes about 8 seconds just for the screen to pop on, and another 8 or so seconds before I can actually click the shutter to take a shot. so, that's annoying. but then, I wanted to Google search something while I was there, so the phones already awake mind you, so i hit home, open Google, this takes another like 7 seconds, and then going to type in the box takes another 5 for swiftkey to even pop up.
I don't understand. it's like, when I'm not home, my phone gets laggy as hell. when the phones plugged in, it gets laggy as hell. now I'm coming from an s7, aka a lag machine, but this thing is starting to annoy me to the point where I'm ready to throw it.
I've recently even factory reset and started fresh and it still happens. it's as if when you wake the phone, doze is just taking forever to ramp the processor speed back up. it's like it's limited to a low speed so there's tons of lag. when I'm using the phone for a while it's fine, but that experience seriously made me want to whip this phone at the ground.
so now it's like, i don't want samsung bc of lag, i'm starting to not want LG because of lag. who the hell else makes a decent android phone now that's actually fast!?

doze sucks. honestly, I get no better battery life now than I did on my note 4 running what, lollipop, and the same size battery. they didn't have doze back then, and it ran better. doze was such a bad programming decision bc it does absolutely nothing for battery, and just makes the phone slow as hell whenever you wake it.

Same thing here. My battery life is so BAD, yesterday not doing anything but standby and checking a few things, 10m 37 sec screen on time, 7+ hours off charge from 100%, it was at 21%. Lags like crazy from time to time. When, it gets like this I pull the battery for about 5-10 minutes and it seems to work fine for awhile. One other thing that has happened, is my data signal sucks, which is probably the cause for the extensive battery drain. I put in new SIM card, no change. I have seen where others are experiencing the same thing. It was a good phone, until about 2 months ago and all this has started, very frustrating. Note 8 can't get here fast enough.
If you guys aren't getting better battery during standby then you guys have a problem like a rogue app or conflict cause standby drain on this phone is nigh non-existent compared to older phones like note 4. Usage when screen is on is pretty much identical to older phones though.
In relation to topic I do get random lag sometimes which does annoy me but my brother gets random lag on his stock unrooted Nexus 6p as well and id be willing to bet that the high and mighty note 8 is going to suffer from random lag as well.
Just depends on how often you are experiencing this lag. It happens pretty rarely for me and usually only when is really hot out.
the other day at my new job the phone drained like crazy just idling in the drawer. like 30 percent from 7am to 1230pm. it was awful. I noticed my signal was super low in gsam during that time though, which sucks. not sure what I'm gonna do about that.

I bought this phone after changing over from Verizon to T-Mobile. My note 4 was really reliable and somewhat compatible with T-Mobile, but it didn't support some of the bands. Anyway, I immediately noticed the lag on this phone when compared to my Note 4.
After messing with several settings and doing a lot of reading online, I decided to try a different launcher and it made a huge difference. I'm currently using Nova Launcher. It takes a while to set it up exactly how you want it. I still found it a little laggy, but instead of the 7 seconds it took to open apps, it would take about 3. I then went into developer options and changed window animation scale, transition animation scale, and animator duration scale from 1x to .5x and apps now open and close almost instantly.

So how do you like the V20 now compared to the Note 4?
Agree even if can be hard to completely abandon your favorite launchers & some live wallpapers it's worth experimenting with other launchers-wallpapers & you could first try turning off those 3 animations in developer options to make it feel snappy or if you like them change them to .5x as suggested by Archangel1183. For laughs you could try all 3 animations to 10x :laugh:before turning them off or down as low as you like.:good:
Any of you all with Sprint. If so I have sinking suspicion their crappy over saturated network is the cause of most of the lag.

Just reread your original post & that does sound like crazy lag, are you saying when you're home (probably on Wi-Fi &/or with better signal?) not plugged in, the lag is dramatically less only or mainly getting that crazy lag when not in that environment?
How often do you reboot & what apps do you typically have running? Did turning off those aforementioned animations make it more snappy?
If you think it's doze you could try http://www.tomsguide.com/faq/id-3026187/disable-doze-android-marshmallow.html
Have you tried a different battery to see if it makes a difference on your battery drain, anyone recommend one like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MR3NHAK ?
Did you buy your V20 online or could you pop in a Verizon store to see if an exchanged replacement makes a difference?
yeah its mainly when I'm out and actually need to use it quickly, that's when it lags the most lol go figure. I'll check out that doze link. the battery itself is fine... usually it doesn't drain like crazy, but my new job is a metal building so it's awful on the signal. gotta airplane mode it! I have a us996 so I never played with any other version before.

I have found on my T-Mobile variant that if I run a AOSP ROM the lag is less noticeable and most of the time is less frequent.
Do you have Facebook and messenger? Uninstall them both and see what happens in a day. Also, are you rooted?
rooted yes, Facebook dear god no.

Install magisk latest beta and try crossbreader in the downloads of magisk manager. It removed all signs of lag for me.
When I had this problem is was the wi-fi trying constantly to connect to every router in the area. I set smart manager to automatically turn wi-fi off when I leave home and back on when I return and haven't had a problem since.

You might want to double check as I have the T-Mobile variant and stock rom came with Facebook already installed. After disabling that and Lookout, it ran a lot better. Think there is actually a thread on here somewhere about those 2 apps lagging up the device
nah I've deleted Facebook immediately when rooted.

you probably have frozen or disabled some apps that causes the lag. I actaully did a backup first before trying to uninstall or disable that looks bloatware to me. I disabled some LG bloatware apps that causes lag on my phone and camera. I don't know which is which but then I manage to install back my backup and start all over again.
