Hi all,
I got a droid turbo from US and I am using it with no problems here in UK. My provider is O2 and I have recently upgraded my plan to take advantage of 4g speed.
Kind of need some clarification around two settings I have on my phone, which I am wondering if they can impact the battery performance at all.
First one is Network mode : I have "Global", "LTE/CDMA", "LTE/GSM/UMTS"
Second one is Global data roaming access : I have "Do not allow data roaming access", "Allow access only for this trip", "Allow access for all trips".
Also, here in UK I have always used roaming internally, as this is at no cost. When I am outside UK I do of course enable roaming If I want to be online, but that's another subject of discussion.
At the moment I have "LTE/GSM/UMTS" and "Allow access for all trips".
What is the best setting in order to take advantage of the 4g speed but avoid the phone to constantly searching for either CDMA/GSM signal ? I read that sometimes this might impact battery life.
Thanks

Hey there...I'm in the UK using Three with my Droid Turbo and use the same network settings as I've found them MUCH better than Global.
I don't think you can improve it further.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy it from, how much is one looking to pay to have it delivered to London and finally does one have to pay the customs?
Many thanks!
I got mine from a guy on another forum who had imported 2 (1 to review) so I got mine for £470

Hi, I have been watching with keen interest the development of the Universal. I had the original XDA and the XDA2 but have been waiting for this 3G device before I upgrade.
I have one on back order, but not with Expansys. I have been watching Expansys wondering if I should get one through them instead of waiting however when I phoned them for some technical info about 3G networks the sales individual did not know anything about the "UK networks"!!!
So, does anyone know if you can take an unlocked, uncofigured, JasJar (such as those being sold on Expansys) and just configure the settings for 3G, or is it far more complicated than that.
I am sure I read somewhere that 3G settings need to be configured by the network, unlike GPRS which I have easily configured for my voda sim card in my xdas.
Well if it can be configured, anyone know the settings for the JasJar to use vodafone 3G ??
Cheers, Numb
jasjar on vodafone
just got my jasjar today, put in my normal sim which was purchased already on the normal 2g network and it not only came up ok but came up on vodafones 3g network with no problems what so ever.
talking to vodafone they also told me that for instance my 3g sim from my datacard which is not even on a voice contract would work though of course as i have no free minutes i would get charged at normal network rates for voice calls.

re
n1, thats good to hear. But did u have to configure any settings for 3G ? or was the phone already configured, and if it was already configured it who by, Expansys ?
If they are unlocked presumably you have to configure it to your chosen network ?
Thx fer the reply tho, can't wait to get mine now, you lucky devil.
Cheers, Numb
to make a long stiry short: settings for gprs and umts/3g are the same, no need to change anything, if you have your vodafone gprs set you are ready to use 3g as well.
cheers, lutz
re
 n1 lutzh that is what I was after. Keeping my fingers crossed for early next week. Otherwise I may to try a different distributer.
Thx again for the heads up.

Quick question - as ever i've searched but not found anything in the Blackstone forum, so pre-emptive apologies if it's right under my nose..
On the HTC Touch HD Handset - Connections ; Network Management, it gives the option to choose between "mobile web" and "O2 active."
can someone please tell me which is superior / faster (if either) and what further configuration settings i may need to change to get the best signal & performance? Im on a pre-pay contract with the monthly Bolt On of "Unlimited" Internet form O2.
many thanks
I use mobile web and the speed seems ok. I can't remember if I ever bothered with the O2 Active.
Anyway you can try either using the websites you will most likely be accessing. I'd say you should clear the browser cache before each website test. An Edge connection is best from my research but I am not really bothered for what I use the mobile for.
At the end of the day if you need supreme speed you have to use the desktop. Hope that helps.
You use the mobile web connection for Internet access. The O2 Active setting is WAP and used for MMS.
Remember if you are on PAYG, you need to use the PAYG settings, not pay-monthly. Change the APN from mobile.o2.co.uk to payandgo.o2.co.uk, ussername=payandgo, password=password
I am with o2 pre pay contract.
Just some info if your using an old sim card that you`ve had for a couple of phones (upgrades), i found out my sim card wasn`t a 3G sim card. In my blackstone all i got was the edge network, After contacting o2 they sent me a new sim card and i now pick up the HSPDA network, which is indicated by H.
You can tell by looking at the serial code on the sim . It should say 3G at the end of the serial.
Does anyone know how to configure their o2 connection so that GPRS is enabled but not 3G. I am having trouble as when I try the settings always shows as 3G?

Hello All,
I'm with TMOUS and obviously have the HD2 and I'm going to be roaming in the UK & Spain in the near future so first off, I'm wondering what is the quickest and easiest way to disable the data on the phone. My plan is to either switch the data on infrequently or only when on a wifi connection.
Next, has anyone got any advice on any TMOUS product for roaming? Pre-Paid data or something like that? Anyone from the UK tell me if there is anything like a pay as you go phone/data plan available in the UK that would be more cost effective?
Same thing goes for Spain or would the same UK pay as you go sim be cheaper than US roaming?
Thanks all in advance for any pointers.
if you want to use the UK prepaid phone service, you would need to unlock your phone if you haven't already so you can use another cellphone provider's sim card. Im not sure how to completely disable the data connection other than tapping on the top menu bar, tapping on the phone signal bar, then going to the bottom and tapping on the data connection to toggle it on and off.

I just got back from France and the UK and the phone (stock ROM) never once connected to data unless I responded yes to the roaming warning. When I did agree I was however surprised that it was able to connect to 3G when T-Mobile USA said that it cannot.
I have a Rogers branded phone that is unlocked and is being used with Fido or a while. Everything works just fine, however I need to tweak the phone so it would stop showing the roaming indication on the desktop, it's always roaming because it sees that I'm on the Fido network and it probably validates against a registry or file somewhere in the file where it says home network = Rogers.
Hi I thought I just wanted to let you know that your usage doesn't count as roaming... as in your airtimes are always local as long as you are in your local calling area. That's based on the experience with my unlocked HTC dream on telus. Make sure you double check with display though.
On a side note, I'm using an unlocked x10 with telus and it doesn't have a roaming icon.

I know that I'm not actually roaming even though that r is showing on top the reception bars in the display panel. I just want to find out if there is a way to get the phone to think that fido is my home network and not Rogers.
hmm... i'm not sure what 'roaming' means but I bought the phone from Rogers, unlocked it and I'm using it with Fido right now too. I don't seem to have any problem with it. It detects Fido and displays it on my home screen. But I've also rooted the phone too, and I think that rooting process debrands the phone as well. Have you rooted your phone? if you haven't I suggest you do, and you can follow this guide for rooting the phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717949. Hope this helps

Hey you aren't alone with the always roaming issue...The new Bell Telus network seems pretty screwy with this roaming indicator and some unlocked phones, it's not just limited to android either.
My Fuze and another persons TP2 both always show roaming. Stick a Rogers SIM in and roaming is gone.
Here's some threads, no one can figure it out yet

I had this problem before with my unlocked LG COOKIE with a rogers sim. it was always showing up as "ROAMING" but now with the x10, no more problems.. tried same sim on a blackberry, no roamin ether... its wierd
Well, I had this issue with an T-Mobile branded HTC Dream, unlocked and being used on Three UK, it always shows up as Roaming, what I do is this:
Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Networks > Network Operators
Let it check for an network operator, and the choose the correct one from the list, which in your case is Fido.
Hope it helps!
Okay, so I am on Verizon and I purchased the OnePlus 6T straight from OnePlus website. I have the 8gb ram and 256gb storage model. I have unlocked the bootloader but haven't installed a custom recovery or rooted yet. Just wanted to unlocked bootloader since it requires a wipe of device storage in case for the future.
Anyways, the phone works amassing, battery life is great, I had a pixel XL before this, screen is fantastic and is plenty fast but I have ran into an issue. The phone was activated on Verizon using Sim 1. Signal is not an issue, always have LTE from Verizon and way better signal than pixel XL ever had.
My issue is I live in a border town with Mexico and I just noticed that when I am close to the border, like within a mile the phone switches to Movistar cell provider. Movistar is a Mexican cell phone provider. Is not that I lost signal because my pixel XL had signal all over there before and the OnePlus 6T is stronger, is just that apparently the Movistar provider has a stronger signal on that area and the phone is choosing to pick up the stronger signal, even if it means going off and switching to roaming.
It doesn't cost me any $$ and speed is wicked fast while roaming but Verizon will only allow 0.5gb of roaming per day which limits the usability of the phone. Anyways, thanks for reading my long post, just wanted to give some context to the question and hopefully find an answer. Like i said, I did search and didn't find anything. If I have to root to install an add-on or an app that lets me pick my signal please advise. Also I know that I still have a strong Verizon signal because I used ltediscovery app to check and it shows the signal strength of whatever many signal phone is picking up.
Thanks in advance for reading and for answers.
One option might be Network Signal Guru in the Play Store (requires root). It's the only app I've found that allows the user to lock the phone to a specific band - which might help with your situation.

Outstanding sir. Thanks for the information. I guess time to root then for me. Been waiting for a stable recovery for OnePlus 6T but I supposed no harm so far using current version of twrp, as far as I have read.
have you tried going to settings, internet, sim, sim1, network provider, disabling the automatic option and selecting your preferred provider manually? this way you will stick to that selection

Either I do not have that option or I couldn't follow the steps.
When I go to settings, wifi & internet, Sim, sim1 then I see what is on the attached screenshot.
it seems you are missing some options
it should look like this: network operator
try to search for operator or network on the main options screen at the search bar on top.
if still no luck than maybe there is something wrong with your sim card or apn settings. you should try to contact OnePlus support than.

Mine does have network operator anywhere.
I look through all the settings and nowhere to be found. I am on Verizon network and only sim1 has a card in it.
Sim2 is empty.
I can get to the special settings through *#*#4636#*#* and even there changing different LTE settings keeps reconnecting to roaming network since the tower is like a stone through away.
Any other options would be greatly appreciated. Also the app that was suggested in 2nd post, rooted phone to try it and that option if it works is behind pay part and that app fee is $50/m. A bit steep for me so looking for options still.
Thanks in advance
Couldn't you just disable roaming?

I could but I only have an option for disabling data roaming, not roaming all together. I tried it in the past and all it did was kept me connected to the roaming network and turned off the data off of the roaming network connection. Meaning I had zero data connectivity.
I wonder if putting a Sim in sim2 slot would open up more settings ?
If anyone is using 6T on Verizon could you please go to wifi & network, sim1 and see if you get any more options than what I posted on previous ss about 3 post ago.
Thanks in advance

I don't believe this is carrier locked since I bought straight from OnePlus website. Hell, I was even charge a currency conversion fee by my credit card cause the purchased was in foreign currency.

you should try another sim (family or friends) and check if the missing option appears. maybe try your sim in another phone too.
lastly you could try a full factory reset (deletes all data)
at the end if it still does not work you really should call OnePlus for help.
also I found this app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pomo.android.networkoperators
open it and select "available networks"
that should open the missing menu to toggle operator selection...
